HANGER
Margaret Wynne Hanger died on Wednesday, October 24, 2001, at Southerland Place, Midlothian, Va. Mrs. Hanger was born on September 8, 1906, in Roanoke, Va., the daughter of William Josiah Wynne and Sue Miller Wynne. The family moved to Fishersville in the Shenandoah Valley in the early 1920's, and then to Richmond in 1931. Since that time, she has been a resident of the Richmond Fan District. For forty years, she was employed by the federal government as an accountant in several different agencies. She was a member of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, and a member of the Commonwealth Chapter, NSDAR. She is survived by four nieces, Beverley Burson Hundley of Richmond, Stella Burson Efird of Greensboro, N.C., Margaret Koontz Coles of Wirtz, Va., and Mollie Sue Koontz Spady of Smithfield, Va.; and one nephew, Justice Lawrence L. Koontz Jr. of Salem, Va. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bliley Funeral Homes' Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., Richmond. A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 26, at 2 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery, Roanoke, Va. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1627 Monument Ave., Richmond, Va. 23220, or to a charity of your choice.

HATCHER
Samuel David Hatcher, 90, of Richmond, died Tuesday, October 23, 2001 after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Vivian Wilburn Hatcher. He is survived by his devoted wife of 41 years, Novella Davis Hatcher; three sons and their wives, David and Jane Hatcher of Nokesville, Va., Will and Jane Hatcher of Newport News, Va. and Glenn and Christi Hatcher of Richmond; two stepdaughters, Barbara England and her husband, Charles of Mechanicsville and Mary Kay Jones of Ashland; one sister, Margaret Willis of Powhatan; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Mr. Hatcher began his career with the Richmond Transit System in August 1937 when he obtained employment as a street car operator with the Virginia Electric and Power Company. Over the next 13 years he advanced to several supervisory positions within the company. On December 20, 1950 Mr. Hatcher was appointed Superintendent of Transportation. He remained in that position for 25 years. Management changed three times during his 38 years of employment. He retired in 1975 as Director of Transportation with the Greater Richmond Transit Company. After retiring from GRTC he continued to work with transit companies on a consultant or interim management basis with ATE Management and Service Company. He traveled throughout the United States in this capacity for five years. While he was still employed by ATE Management Company, he and his wife, Novella, moved to Powhatan County, Va. There he became involved in many community projects. He restored a one-room log schoolhouse located on the grounds of Muddy Creek Baptist Church. He was instrumental with others in planning and building a medical center in Cartersville, Va. Mr. Hatcher served as Heart Fund Chairman for Powhatan Co. in 1981, was a member of Powhatan Co. Historical Society, and served as president two times of the AARP Chapter in Cartersville. Due to his failing health he and his wife moved back to Richmond in 1993. He was a 54-year member of Metropolitan Lodge No. 11 AF&AM, a member of Richmond Scottish Rite Bodies 32nd Degree KCCH, ACCA Temple Shrine and Grace Baptist Church. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 25. Interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Log Schoolhouse Maintenance Fund, c/o Muddy Creek Baptist Church, 3470 Trenholm Rd., Powhatan, Va. 23139, or Grace Baptist Church, 4200 Dover Rd., Richmond, Va. 23221.

HOLLAND
John Moore "Jack" Holland, born September 9, 1936, died October 22, 2001. He was the beloved husband of Judith Smoot Holland. A native of Virginia's Eastern Shore, he was the son of Clarence and Elisabeth Holland of Eastville, Va. He graduated from Northampton High School in Eastville, and attended the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Va. and Salisbury State Teachers College, Salisbury, Md. Mr. Holland enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a medic attached to the U.S. Marine Corps. After his tour of duty, he went to work for Miller and Rhoads department store in Richmond where he was employed for 22 years. First hired as a stockman, he rose to become china and glass buyer for all Miller and Rhoads stores. Mr. Holland was most recently employed by Hecht's Department Stores in men's clothing sales. He had retired from that position at the end of September. Mr. Holland was a former member and past president of the Richmond Eastern Shore Club. He is survived by his wife, Judith Holland; his brother, Clarence Whitaker Holland III; his son, John Moore Holland Jr.; two daughters, Elizabeth Holland Shawver and Mary Sandys Holland; daughter and son-in-law, Chastity Graham Holland and Timothy Shawver; five grandchildren, Joshua Giannini, Lindsey Shawver, Jennifer Shawver, Bailey Holland and Lukas Holland; and a host of cousins. Funeral services will be held at the Huguenot Chapel of Woody Funeral Home at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 26, 2001. Burial service will follow at 3 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, Eastville, Va. The family will receive friends at Woody's Huguenot Chapel on Thursday evening, October 25, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

JONES
Elsie Richardson Jones, 88, of Red Oak, died October 24, 2001. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Ryland and Margaret Jones, Ray and Brenda Jones of Red Oak. The family will receive friends at the home of Ray and Brenda Jones at all times. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Public Fork Christian Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. Wood Funeral Service, Chase City, is in charge of arrangements.

JONES
Mr. Lyle Mason Jones, age 74, of 4211 Brickhouse Court, Petersburg, died Monday, October 22, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Virous W. Jones; daughter, Karen T. Jones and son-in-law, Clarence A. Jones Jr.; daughter, Marcia J. Flagg and son-in-law, Maj. Casey C. Flagg; son, Lyle Michael Jones; grandchildren, Stacey Jones, Candace Flagg, Kevin Flagg and Derrick Jones; sisters, Georgianna Lester and Ola Reed; brother, Roland Jones; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was a graduate of St. Paul's College and earned his M.S.W. degree from Atlanta University. He was a veteran of the United States Army and for 20 years was Correctional Program Director for Substance Abuse with the Federal Prison System in Petersburg, Virginia, from which he retired in 1987. Recently he was an adjunct professor of Sociology at Virginia State University. He was a member of the Beaux-Twenty Club, Inc., Knights of Columbus and Phi Delta Kappa Honor Society. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, October 27, 2001 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 151 West Washington Street, Petersburg, Father Robert M. Spencer and Msgr. Michael S. C. Schmied, officiating. Interment to follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends and viewing only will be at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association. LEE
Shirley Searles Lee, age 60, died Tuesday, October 23, 2001. Survivors include her husband, James E. Lee; one daughter, Debra Clements; two sons, James E. Lee Jr. and John W. Lee; one granddaughter, Casey Clements; two sisters, Patricia Jones and Beverly Martin; and one brother, David Searles. The family will receive friends from 6 t0 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday nights at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad St., Glen Allen, where the funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday. Interment will follow in Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Centerville Fire Department and Rescue Squad Co. No. 3.

MEDLEY
Nancy Thornton Medley, 66, of Bowling Green, died Tuesday, October 23, 2001 at her home. Born in Bowling Green, she was the widow of Thomas Joseph Medley Sr. She retired in 1991 as business manager for the town of Bowling Green, a job she had held since 1973. After her retirement, she was appointed to serve on town council and continued to serve in that capacity until 1998. She was a charter member of the Caroline Chamber of Commerce, on which she currently served as a board member, instrumental in the organization of the Historic Economic Leadership Panel of Bowling Green, the annual Harvest Festival and Bike Virginia in Caroline Co. She was active with the Boy Scout Troop 173 in Bowling Green and the Caroline Theater Club, and was on the board of the Caroline Chapter of the American Red Cross. Survivors include a daughter, Susan M. Beason of Bowling Green; a son, Thomas J. Medley Jr. of Richmond; a brother, Calvin Thornton of Bowling Green; and two grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 27, 2001 at 2 p.m. in Calvary Baptist Church, Bowling Green. Rev. Duane Pemberton and Rev. David Fryer officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Storke Funeral Home in Bowling Green on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be may be made to H.E.L.P. MILBY
William Garland Milby Jr., 60, of Shacklefords, Va., died Wednesday, October 24, 2001. He was a life long member and deacon of Poroporone Baptist Church. Garland is survived by his wife of 35 years, Dorothy Hogge Milby; two sons, William Christopher Milby of Shacklefords and David Kevin Milby and his wife, Tammy of Chester; three sisters, Grace Lowery of Tappahannock, Frances Goode of Gloucester and Betty Noble of Newport News. A funeral service will be held Friday 2 p.m. at Poroporone Baptist Church. Burial in church cemetery. MOHLE
Amanda Calvert Mohle, born September 20, 1965, died October 20, 2001 in Dallas, Texas. She is survived by her parents, Tony and Ginger Pelling of Richmond; her father, Ted Mohle Jr.; a brother, Ted Mohle III; two nephews, Teddy and Anderson; and a niece, Olivia of Houston, Texas. Amanda lived most of her life in Houston, but some of her happiest years were as a student at Luther Memorial School. A funeral will be held Monday, October 29, 2001 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Ginter Park, 321-9548, where Amanda served as an acolyte. MORRIS
James Andrew Morris, 83, of Louisa, died Tuesday, October 23, 2001 in a local hospital. Born June 17, 1916 in Standardsville, he was the son of the late Houston and Julia Powell Morris. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Goldie S. Morris. He was a past member of B.P.O.E. No. 389, a member of Zion United Methodist Church, and was a retired painting contractor. Survivors include his wife, Geneva Morris of Louisa; his children, Frances M. Beasley of Fredericksburg; Shirley M. Wood of Charlottesville; Ann M. Dawson and her husband, A.W., also of Charlottesville and James E. Morris and his wife Sharyn of Richmond; his stepchildren, Larry Kingrea of Gordonsville, Christine Horne of Shawsville, Betty Helvey of Radford and Warren Richardson of Christiansburg; grandchildren, Marsha W. Freeman of Louisa, Larry W. Wood of Richmond, Sharon D. Ament of Richmond, Randel P. Wood of Keswick, Scott Wood of Lake Monticello and Sean C. Morris of Richmond; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2001 at Hill & Wood Chapel. Rev. Will Montgomery officiating. Interment will follow at Monticello Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday, October 26, 2001 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. NEISZ
Doris H. Neisz, 94, of Chesterfield County, Va., died Tuesday, October 23, 2001 at John Randolph Nursing Home in Hopewell, Va. She was the widow of Franklin Earl Neisz Sr. and is survived by one son, Robert W. Neisz of Richmond; two daughters and their husbands, Jeanie and Ray Grubbs of Chester, June and Olney Kleis of Powhatan; one daughter-in-law, Edith Neisz of Richmond; seven granddaughters, six grandsons, five great-granddaughters and 11 great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by two daughters and one son. Her remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 South Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Washington Memorial Park.

NEWMAN
Mary Elizabeth "Dibbie" Newman, 76, died Tuesday, October 23, 2001 after a short battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Charles Newman Jr. She is survived by her children, Trude N. Young (Donnie) and Charles David Newman, all of Richmond; five grandchildren, Amy Savignac (Kevin) of Marshall, Va., Christopher Norris of Richmond, Eric Norris of Chapel Hill, N.C., Melissa Newcomb (Scott) of Richmond, Jarod Newman of Philadelphia, Pa.; and three special great-grandchildren, Crystal and Stephen Newcomb and Hannah Savignac; one sister, Virginia Easterday of Frederick, Md.; two sisters-in-law, Charlotte Monaghan of Lynchburg, Va. and Shirley Fowlkes (Julian) of Burkeville, Va.; and one brother-in-law, Robert Newman (Margaret) of Soddy Daisy, Tenn. Dibbie was born in Frederick, Md. and moved to Farmville, Va. when she and Charlie were married in 1944, where they lived until moving to Richmond in 1960. She was a devoted wife and loving mother and will be missed by many friends and family members. Dibbie was an active member of Westover Hills United Methodist Church, a volunteer at the Hermitage Methodist Home, and a member of senior friends at Johnston Willis. She was always ready for a good hand of bridge and a visit with friends. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Huguenot Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd., Midlothian. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Westover Hills United Methodist Church, 1705 Westover Hills Blvd. Interment Dale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or Westover Hills United Methodist Church.

NIXON
Mrs. Ethel Kientz Nixon, age 86, of the Masonic Home of Virginia and formerly of Sandston, died on Monday, October 22, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry G. Nixon and her son, Albert Martin Nixon. She is survived by her daughter, Marsha Nixon Townsend of Orange, Va.; a granddaughter, Melanie Brooke Zachman of Alexandria, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Nixon was a lifelong member of the Sandston Baptist church. Remains rest at the Laburnum Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 2110 East Laburnum Ave. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, Va.

NUNNALLY
Catherine Gordon Nunnally, 96, of Titusville, Fla., died October 22, 2001. She was preceded in death by her son, Stanley Nunnally. She is survived by her husband of 77 years, Otho S. Nunnally; three sons, Carl, Bruce and Danny, all of Richmond; three daughters, Nancy Kidd of Cocoa, Fla., Lovelene Ammons of Titusville, Fla. and Kitty Addison of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a brother, Miles Gordon of Richmond; 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. During WWII she was a volunteer with the American Red Cross. She worked as a nurse with Sheltering Arms Hospital and MCV, and was an Eastern Star. A memorial service will be held in Florida at a later date.

REVERE
Katherine M. Revere, 79, of Mechanicsville, widow of Robert L. Revere, died Wednesday, October 24, 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Juanita R. Johnson and her husband, Thomas G. Johnson; her son, Ronald W. Revere and his wife, Jackie S. Revere; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and her brother, Carter W. Talley. Remains rest at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., where the family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 26 at Signal Hill Memorial Park.

Mrs. Margaret E. Royal of 7501 Montrose Ave., formerly of 3115 Barton Ave., died October 21, 2001. Surviving are one son, Frederick A. Royal; one daughter, Laverne R. Mobley; three grandchildren, Beverly Y. Thomas (James A.), Cynthia M. Garner and Cassandra L. Mobley; five great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; five nieces; one nephew; a host of other relatives and friends, two devoted, Maggie Norrell and Virginia Richmond. Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd., where the family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. After 12 noon Friday, remains will rest in Metropolitan African American Baptist Church, 5263 Warwick Rd., where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Rev. Roscoe D. Cooper officiating. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.
