WHALEY
Charlie H. Whaley, 85, of Richmond, died Saturday, March 16, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Alice K. Whaley; two daughters, Patricia Stubbs and husband, Robert T. of Mechanicsville, and Betty Watson and husband, David L. of Richmond; one son, Charlie Lee Whaley and wife, Melisa B. of Mechanicsville; one brother, Hayes Whaley of Farmville; one sister, Laverne Ownby of Cumberland, Va.; six grandchildren, Tammy Ingram, Tana Starke, Robert T. Stubbs Jr., Sherry G. Stubbs, Rodney E. Stubbs and Megan N. Watson; nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Whaley was an Army Air Corps veteran of WWII, a member of the VFW, member of the Fairmont Baptist Church and was retired from the American Tobacco Co. after 37 years. The family will receive friends Monday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Laburnum Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 2110 E. Laburnum Ave., and where services will be held Tuesday, 11 a.m. Interment Hanover Memorial Park Cemetery.

WHITE
Claude H. White, 66, of Richmond, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2002 with his family at his bedside. He is survived by his wife, Audrey S. White; their children, Claude Jr., Steven, Larry, Dean, Raymond, Douglas White and Shelley Wagner; two brothers, six sisters, ten grandchildren. He was an operating engineer retired from Local 545. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Church of the Epiphany, 11000 Smoketree Dr. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 311 S. Boulevard, Richmond, Va. 23220.

WHITLOCK
Stuart Whitlock, 65, of Mechanicsville, died March 15, 2002. He is survived by his sister, Joan Whitlock. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Road, where the family will receive friends 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday. Graveside funeral service 10 a.m. Tuesday at Oakwood Cemetery. Mr. Whitlock retired from Reynolds Metals with over 35 years of service.

WILLIAMSON
Frances Elizabeth Brown Williamson, 91, of DeWitt, died Saturday, March 16, 2002. She was born the daughter of the late Samuel W. and Janie W. Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jasper R. "JR" Williamson; and a son, J.R. "Ray" Williamson Jr. She is survived by five sons, Alfred L. Williamson and wife, Georgianna, Bernard M. Williamson and wife, Phyllis, Rudolph A. Williamson and wife, Edna, all of DeWitt, Calvin V. Williamson and wife, Treely of Chester, and Arnold W. Williamson and wife, Reva of Dinwiddie; two daughters, Elizabeth W. Pinkleton and husband, Franklin of Dinwiddie, and Dorothy W. Barfield of Petersburg; 20 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Pritchett of Alberta, and Maude Gatewood of Richmond; a brother, William Brown and wife, Janie of Meredithville; a sister-in-law, Gladys Brown of Dinwiddie; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19, at Rocky Run United Methodist Church, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Rocky Run UMC Building Fund, c/o Becky Melvin, P.O. Box 413, Dinwiddie, Va. 23841 or to the Dinwiddie Volunteer Rescue Squad.

WINDHAM
Ruby Helene Windham, 74, of Matoaca, died Saturday, March 16, 2002 in MCV Hospital. Mrs. Windham was born and raised in Petersburg, a daughter of the late Jess and Pattie Beasley Bradburn, and resided with her granddaughter, Kelli Clark. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Katherine Bradburn Harbin and Gloria Bradburn Bailey. She is survived by two daughters, Diane Michalik and Joanne Dressler; six grandchildren, Kelli Clark, Jaime Franklin, Jennifer Michalik, Nekole Crockett, Bobbi Jo Stark, Holli Dressler; seven great-grandchildren, Dustin Clark, Joshua Clark, Taylor Clark, Brittanie Crockett, Stacie Crockett, Hailey Stark, Danielle Michael; three nieces, Carolyn Waddell, Brenda Stell, Sheri Kennedy; and three nephews, Kirk Bailey, Harold Harbin of Williamsburg and Wayne Harbin of Williamsburg. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 20 in the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home with Dr. Mark Leavell, pastor of Epiphany Baptist Church officiating. The interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

WOLLNER
Arlene Spain Wollner, 91, of Mathews, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2002. She was a retired accountant with the Medical College of Virginia. Arlene was formerly of Richmond before retiring to Mathews with her late husband, Henry E. Wollner, in 1970. Survived by niece, Marian S. Smith; two nephews, Alton Spain, Raymond Spain, all of Richmond, Va. There will be a funeral service held at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews on Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends following the service. There will be a graveside service held at Maury Cemetery, Richmond, Va. on Wednesday, March 20 at 11 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to Sanders Nursing Home, 7385 Walker Ave., Gloucester, Va. 23061.

WOOD
Edward W. Wood Jr., 68, of Henrico County, died March 14, 2002. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Anne Carreras Wood; his four children, David A. Wood and his wife, Lana of Hawthorn Woods, Ill., Therese Anne Wood Lohr, Edward W. Wood III and his wife, Sharon and M. Margaret Wood, all of Henrico County; seven grandchildren, Alan, Anthony, Stephen and Mary Virginia Lohr and Rachel, Randy and Jessica Wood; and two sisters, Catherine Doyle and her husband, Joe of Mokena, Ill. and Annie May Peterson of Huron, S.D. Mr. Wood served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a Past Grand Knight and charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 9953 and a former District Deputy of District 8, Virginia State Council, Knights of Columbus; and a Past Faithful Navigator of the Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree, Richmond Assembly No. 1165. He retired from the County of Henrico Finance Department in 1996. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a 7 p.m. Rosary Service on Monday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, with interment to follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church Building Fund.

ALLEN
James Irvin Allen, 60, of Richmond, passed away September 10, 2002. He retired from the Graphic Packaging Corporation. Survivors include his daughter, Michelle Crutchfield; son, James Allen; sister, Beverly Ann Walker; brother, Kenneth Allen; four grandchildren, four nieces and one nephew. Private family services will be held. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.

AMACHER
Mrs. Carrie Tuck Amacher, 80, of Bon Air, died Tuesday, September 10, 2002 at her home peacefully. The wife of the late Noel Edward Amacher, she is survived by two daughters, Robin Davis and her husband, Billy of Powhatan and Sue Pierce of Richmond; two grandchildren, Raymond Hughes and Troy E. Minnick; one great-grandchild, Danielle Marshall; several brothers and sisters from Punta Gorda, Fla. and West Virginia. Funeral services will be held Friday, 10 a.m., September 13, 2002 at Church of God of Prophecy, 3400 Turner Rd. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. ANDREWS
Departed this life September 8, 2002, Mrs. Geraldine Bass Andrews of 1906 Maddox Street. She is survived by one daughter, Juanita Davis; two sons, Robert D. Andrews and Eldridge Frank Smith Sr.; nine grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Myrtle Booker; several cousins, nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Fountain of Deliverance Church, 9 East Clay St., where remains will lie in state one hour prior to funeral time. Bishop Lawrence L. Taylor (pastor) officiating. Interment Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends assemble at the church 10:45 a.m. Saturday.

BALL
Mrs. Rose Frances Reid Ball, age 86, of Aylett died Monday, September 9, 2002 in her home. Happily married for 64 years, she is survived by her husband, Samuel B. Ball. She was preceded in death by her son, Samuel B. Ball Jr. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Bruce Sharp; her granddaughter, Samantha Ball Queen and husband, Allen; three grandsons, James Edward Ball, James Bryan Sharp and Samuel Grant Sharp. A graduate of Central High School and Richmond Business School, Rose Frances worked for the H.O.L.C. and later in the stenographers' pool of the State General Assembly. As an active member of Beulah Baptist Church all of her life, she served as the Sunday school superintendent for years, taught, among others, the Young Adult Class and Adult Ladies Class, was president of the Women's Missionary Society and led the children's singing and was a member of the church choir for many years. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday night at the B.W. White Funeral Home, Aylett. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 14 at the Beulah Baptist Church. The family requests that donations be made to the Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery Endowment.

Florence Robinson Burks, age 75, of Richmond, formerly of Amelia, died Tuesday, September 10, 2002. She is survived by her sister, Barbara Randolph of Amelia; sisters-in-law, Jennie Robinson and Sandra Harris; brother-in-law, Robert Randolph; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Marian B. Burns, 85, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2002. Preceding her in death was her husband, Roy W. Burns. Her survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Claudia B. and Charles Ogden of Vidor, Texas and Virginia B. and Edward Neal of Maidens, Va.; five grandchildren, John Walker of San Antonio, Texas, Beth Walker of Beaumont, Texas, Tanya Sowell of Beaumont, Texas, Stephen Neal of Mt. Sterling, Ky. and David Neal of Atlanta, Ga.; three great-grandchildren, Stephen Jacob "Jake" Neal, Haley Caroline Neal and John Henry "Hank" Neal, all of Mt. Sterling, Ky. Cryptside services will be held in Greenwood Memorial Gardens on Saturday, September 14 at 11 a.m. The West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad St., is in charge of the arrangements.

CHAPPLE
John Henry Chapple, 64, of Richmond, (retired from NYC Transit Authority), departed this life on Tuesday, September 10, 2002 after a long illness. He is survived by his wife, Ida L. Chapple; two daughters, Daphne Lynne Portis and Dawn L. Chapple; a granddaughter, Letitia Portis; a mother, Mrs. Georgia Johnson; a brother, Tyrone Matthews; one aunt, three godchildren, five sisters-in-law, seven brothers-in-law, cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. Remains rest at the Carlton T. Brooks Funeral Home, 2200 Hull St., where the family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 14, 3 p.m. at the Mount Olive Baptist Church, 2611 Bells Rd., where remains will lie in state at 2 p.m. Rev. COVINGTON
James Donald Covington, 87, of Ashland, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2002. He is survived by a daughter, Linda G. Koopmann; a son, Donald A. and his wife, Patti Covington; three sisters, Marye Robinson, Marjorie Covington and June Hundley; a brother, Nelson Covington; three grandchildren, Douglas, Deborah and Frederick; also six great-grandchildren. Mr. Covington was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and retired as a mechanic with VDOT. Friends may call at the Reid Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:30 p.m., and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, with burial in Woodland Cemetery. Linwood W. (Pete) Diacont Jr., founder of Lin's Landscaping Service, Inc., died Tuesday, September 10, 2002. He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia; four daughters, Beth Dixon, Ann Hazelwood, Ginger Johnson and Jane Donovan; three sons, Lin III, Rick and Mike Diacont; three brothers, Charles, Phil and Danny Diacont; sister, Teresa Heath; 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 12, and where a Rosary Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony's Maronite Catholic Church.
