PIERCY
Mrs. Audie W. Piercy, age 90, of La Crosse, died Thursday, March 16, 2001. She is survived by one daughter, Faye P. Lambert of South Hill; and one son, Colyer R. Piercy of Richmond, Va. She is also survived by one brother, Herman C. Wells of Chase City, Va.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted by Phillip Upton on Sunday, March 18, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Farrar Funeral Chapel with interment to follow at Crestview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 7 to 8:30 at the funeral home. RHODES
Mrs. Ralph E. (Nelle S.) Rhodes, 85, of Richmond, widow of Ralph E. Rhodes, died Thursday, March 15, 2001. She was the daughter of the late Frank J. and Nellie Pratz Stephenson, and is survived by two sons, R. Edward Rhodes and his wife, Carol H., R. Stephenson Rhodes; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Brand Rhodes, Paul Stephenson Rhodes; two nephews, Pat and Bruce Poulson. Mrs. Rhodes was a member of All Saint's Episcopal Church, where she was the substitute organist. She was a member of the Old Dominion Chapter of DAR and had held many offices on the national and state level, including Past Chaplain General-NS DAR, Past Vice-President General-NS-DAR, and Honorary State Regent-Va.-DAR. Mrs. Rhodes was also a member of the Colonial Dames, National Society of the Magna Carta, the Monocan Woman's Club and The Country Club of Virginia. In addition, she was a retired piano teacher and had played the organ for dinner music at the Henry Clay Hotel in Ashland, Ky. and the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond. Her family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at All Saint's Episcopal Church. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Tamassee DAR School, Inc., P.O. Box 8, Tamasee, S.C. 29686 or the Memorial Fund at All Saint's Episcopal Church, 8787 River Rd., Richmond, Va.

Departed this life March 16, 2001, Mrs. Bessie M. Stewart of 5807 Baron Drive, Chesterfield. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St. Funeral notice later.

TAYLOR
Helen Page Taylor, 76, of Richmond, died Thursday, March 15, 2001. She is survived by two sisters, Jeanne Lafoon of Richmond, and Martha Fisher of Atlanta, Ga. Page was a member of First Baptist Church, and served the Baptist denomination in many areas of ministry, Virginia Baptist General Board, First Baptist Church of Clarendon, Arlington, Foreign Mission Board, volunteering at Baptist Theological Seminary, and Ruschlikon, Switzerland. Her family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Parham Chapel Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday, March 19, in the chapel of First Baptist Church. Interment, Maury Cemetery. The family suggests memorial gifts to Lakewood Manor Benevolent Fund, 1900 Lauderdale Drive, Richmond, Va. 23233 or the Virginia Baptist Historical Society, University of Richmond, Va. 23173.

TINSLEY
Wilbert A. Tinsley of Ashland entered eternal rest March 12, 2001. He was the son of Burney Tinsley and Mary A. Tinsley. He is survived by his sister, Frances Tinsley Lewis; and a host of other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the F.E. Dabney Funeral Home, Henry Street, Ashland. Funeral Sunday, 2:30 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, Ashland. Rev. Michael Shannon Sr., pastor, officiating, assisted by Rev. Reynolds Robinson. Interment Shiloh Cemetery. The Dabneys' Morticians in charge of arrangements.

WILKINSON
Joyce Sandridge Wilkinson, 76, the widow of Dorsey E. Wilkinson Jr., passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2001. She is survived by her sons, Dorsey Everett III, Carlton H. and his wife, Raylene, and David E. Wilkinson, all of Glen Allen; two grandsons, Michael Allen and David E. Wilkinson Jr.; two granddaughters, Sherry and Stacey Wilkinson; three great-grandchildren, Andy, Hanah and Adam; a sister, Colleen and her husband, Victor Belisle; uncle, Norman Carroll Sandridge; cousin, Dr. and Mrs. Alfred Wilkinson; nephew, Carl C. Coe; and a close friend, E. "Steve" Stephens. In 1953, Mrs. Wilkinson with her late husband founded the Wilkinson Printing Company in Glen Allen. She was a member of Biltmore Baptist Church and was very active in the American Legion Auxiliary, Post No. 244, and the Daughters of America. Funeral services will be held at the Reid Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, at 11 a.m. Saturday (today) with burial in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Memorial gifts may be made to Biltmore Baptist Church, 1300 New York Ave., Glen Allen, Va. 23060, the American Legion Post No. 244 or Hospice of Central Virginia.

Gwendolyn Davis Barnes, 92, of Heathsville, died April 14, 2002, widow of Carrington Barnes Sr.; mother of John C. Jr.; grandmother of John III and Gwen Bowles; great-grandmother of Lynn Bowles, Jennifer Medders, Johnny IV and Christopher T. Barnes; sister, Inez Delano; companion, Martha Miller. She was an active member of Coan Church, directing choir, teaching classes and leading missionary groups. Services 2 p.m. Wednesday, Coan Church, Heathsville. Interment church cemetery. Visitation 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jones-Ash Funeral Home, Rainswood. Deacons will be pallbearers and memorials to Coan Church, Box 156, Heathsville, Va.

BRATYSZCZENKO
Kathrine Bratyszczenko, 87, of Richmond, died Saturday, April 13, 2002. She was the widow of Petro Bratyszczenko and is survived by her two daughters, Maria B. Burruss, Doris Call, and her husband, Raymond “Chip” Call; five grandchildren, Joe Andrews and wife, Sandra, Jennifer Kushto and husband, Aaron, John Embrey III, and wife, Marion, Timothy Embrey, and Corey Call; one great grandson, Jamie Embrey; and brother, Gregor Ciesla of Germany. Her remains rest at Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, and where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday. BROSKE
Frances L. Broske, 71, of Richmond, died April 12, 2002. She is survived by her husband, William W. Broske Sr.; three children, Donna Marie Kinney and her husband, Daniel Mark, Ann Victoria Broske and William W. Broske Jr.; two sisters, Betty Paulini and her husband, George and Helen Griffith and her husband, Starling; two grandchildren, William W. Broske III and Ashley Nicole Kinney. Mrs. Broske was a daycare provider and with her husband, designed and built many homes in the Lakeside area. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, and where funeral services will be held 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Association for Retarded Citizens.

BROWNING
Diane Carol Browning of San Francisco, Calif. died Thursday, April 11, 2002. She is survived by her loving parents, Bill and Sarah Browning; her sister, Kathy Browning; niece and nephew, Jennifer and Tommy Heflebower; her aunt, Lois Holder; devoted cousin, Carolyn Riley; and many other loving cousins. Her family wishes to thank her devoted friends and caregivers, Jim Brennan and Veronica Brauns for whom they are most grateful. Diane was a graduate of U.C. Berkeley and an avid traveler throughout her life, most recently having lived and taught school in Taiwan. A memorial service will be held at Fairmount Christian Church, 6502 Creighton Road, on Tuesday, April 16, 2002 at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends after the service in the fellowship hall. CALDWELL
Charles Basil Caldwell, 87, of Richmond, formerly of Highland Springs, died Thursday, April 11, 2002. Widower of Doris Beddingfield Caldwell, he is survived by his sister, Muriel Goewey of Cape Coral, Fla.; three brothers, B.G. Caldwell of Lynchburg, M.H. Caldwell of Port Royal and Max S. Caldwell of Goochland. Mr. Caldwell was retired from the Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority as a maintenance superintendent, and was a member of Highland Springs United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force during WWII serving with the 10th Army, U.S. Air Force, and belonged to American Legion Post No. 0144, Highland Springs. Remains rest at the Laburnum Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 2110 East Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

CARTER
Carolyn Lassiter Carter, age 79, of Lancaster, Va., formerly of Cumberland County, Va., died Saturday, April 13, 2002. Mrs. Carter lived in Cumberland County for 41 years, where she was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, Cartersville, and Friends of Grace Church, Ca Ira, Va. She was also a charter member of the Friends of the Cumberland County Public Library and the Women Club of Cumberland, where she served as its first president. In 1991, Mrs. Carter moved to Lancaster County, Va. and volunteered at Historic Christ Church, the Mary Ball Washington Museum, the Lancaster County Public Library and the American Red Cross. She was a member of St. Mary's Whitechapel Episcopal Church. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Christine Carter Bresett and David C. Bresett, Merry Point, Va.; a son, William Winston Carter, Rice, Va.; a sister, Louise Lassiter Beck, North Augusta, S.C.; and a brother, Lawrence L. Lassiter, Charlotte, N.C. A memorial service and interment will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2002, at Historic Christ Church, Irvington, Va. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Foundation for Historic Christ Church, Irvington, Va. or to the Oncology Center at Rappahannock General Hospital, Kilmarnock, Va.
