Ms. Madeline Isabelle Coleman of 1127 Hickory St., departed this life Friday, April 12, 2002. She is survived by her daughters, Eula C. Squire and Grace Coleman; sons, Robert and James Coleman; 21 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Lucy Coleman; son-in-law, Lucephus Squire; daughter-in-law, Darlene Coleman; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Harry Coleman and mother, Louise Coleman; son, Calvin Coleman; and daughter, Mary Coleman. Her remains rest at the W.S. Watkins & Son Funeral Home, 2700 North Ave., where her family will receive friends Monday 7 to 8 p.m., and where funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, 11 a.m. Rev. Earl Brown officiating. Interment Oakwood Cemetery.

ERLANDSSON
Sven Axel Erlandsson, 63, peacefully passed away April 11, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Josephine (Josette); daughters, Karin, Erica and Anna; son, Johan; and sister, Astrid. Mr. Erlandsson was an engineer and director with Alston Power, Inc. for 41 years. A memorial service will be held at the Brandermill Church, 4500 Millridge Pkwy., on Wednesday, April 17, at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance (NCCRA).

GILMAN
Irene P. Gilman, 89, of Ashland, died April 13, 2002 in peace. She was born September 6, 1912. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Gilman; and her daughter, Ida Carpenter. She is survived by her son, Hudson Gilman of Culpeper; three grandchildren, Scott Carpenter, John Gilman and Bonnie Pullin; four great-grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Reid Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday. Howard Robert Gould, age 91, of Kilmarnock, Va., died Thursday, April 11, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Edna Walker Cassidy Gould; his son, Charles Gould, Shrewsbury, Vt.; his daughter, Christie A. Berger of Kilmarnock, Va.; and his brother, Raymond Gould, Lompoc, Calif. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, April 18, 2002 in Grace Episcopal Church, Kilmarnock, Va. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, Kilmarnock, Va. 22482.

HAMLETT
Mrs. Marion Mason Hamlett, age 87, of Mechanicsville, widow of William C. Hamlett, died Saturday, April 13, 2002. She is survived by two sons, William Twelvetrees Hamlett of Raleigh, N.C., and Ronald Wayne Hamlett of Richmond; a sister, Shirley M. Lees of Glen Allen; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hamlett was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Remains rest at the Atlee Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, corner of Rt. 301 and Shady Grove Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, and where services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Verna Ruth Herndon, 73, of Chester, died Sunday, April 14, 2002. She was the daughter of the late Clarence H. and Flossie W. Vicars. She is survived by four sisters, Fonney Broughman of Providence Forge, Gladys Boyer of Westminster, Md., Mattie Shifflett of Chester, Cletta Stone of Mechanicsville; three brothers, Fred Vicars of Hilton, Va., B.J. Vicars of Chester, Calvin Vicars of Richmond; and a host of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16, at the Chesterfield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, with a committal service to follow at 1 p.m. at Washington Memorial Park, Sandston, Va. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, April 15.

Janet Ellis Mitchell Hobbs, age 78, of Gasburg, Va., and widow of Josiah Gorman Mitchell Jr., passed away Sunday, April 14, 2002 at Greensville Memorial Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Aaron Moses Hobbs of Emporia; one daughter, Belinda Mitchell of Gasburg; three stepdaughters, Diane Taylor and husband, Charles of Emporia, Kathy Rooker and husband, Ray of Roanoke Rapids, and Debbie Mayers and husband of Baltimore, Md.; one grandson, Robert Bruce Settle IV of South Boston; four stepgrandchildren, one great-granddaughter, Lucy Settle; three step-great-grandchildren; five sisters, Ercelle E. Pearson of Henrico, N.C., Irene E. Sadler of White Plains, Edna E. Hux of Roanoke Rapids, Edith E. Pearson of Valentines, and Elma E. Moore of Triplet. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Hill Christian Church, Gasburg, Va., with interment in the Ellis Family Cemetery, Gasburg. The family will receive friends Monday, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home, Lawrenceville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Central Volunteer Rescue Squad, Gasburg, Va. or Greensville Volunteer Rescue Squad, Emporia.

Ailleen E. Jackson of Charles City departed this life April 13, 2002. She is survived by three daughters, Hilda Coleman (James), Margie Jackson, Joan Randolph (Anthony); one stepdaughter, Hilda Richard (Theodore); one son, William Jackson Jr. (Tiffany); one sister, Frances Giles; three brothers, Clarence, George and Elbert Parker; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at J. Leroy Charity Funeral Home, Charles City. At 11 a.m. Wednesday, Mrs. Jackson will rest at Liberty Baptist Church, where services will be held 1 p.m. Rev. KUTNER
Leo M. Kutner died Saturday, April 13, 2002. Born in the free state of Danzig on August 14, 1917, he survived Nazi concentration camps including Flossenburg, Dachau and Auschwitz. He came to this country with his wife, Esther and infant son, Ben, in 1949 and settled in Richmond, Va., where he was a founding member of the New American Club. Trained in Europe as an upholsterer, Leo and a partner formed Ace Upholstering Co. Upon the death of his partner, he formed Artisan Upholstering and Interiors in 1968, where he began specializing in converting needlepoint works into rugs, cushions, alter covers and kneelers. His artistry can be seen in buildings around the country, including the National Cathedral and the Supreme Court of Virginia. An ardent numismatist specializing in foreign coins, he eventually became a consultant to collectors and dealers. He is survived by his wife, Esther; two sons, Ben and Lee Kutner; and a daughter and son-in-law, Fay and Fred Kessler. He is also survived by three loving granddaughters, Ali Kutner, Jessica Kessler and Marissa Kessler. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 16 at 11 a.m. at the Richmond Beth-El Chapel at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the United States Holocaust Museum or the Virginia Holocaust Museum.

REYNOLDS
Rhonda Lynn Reynolds, 48, of Richmond, died Thursday, April 11, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Nick Reynolds; two stepsons, Brandon and Brian Reynolds; sister and brother-in-law, Tricia and Jerry Pridgen of Wilson, N.C.; three nephews, Stevie, Paul, and Tyler Pridgen of Wilson, N.C.; and aunt, Rose Seigel. A funeral service will be held 3:30 p.m. Monday (today) at Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Avenue. Mrs. Reynolds was a federal manager with the Defense Supply Center in Richmond. James Rosser Sr. of Richmond departed this life Thursday, April 11, 2002 at Johnston-Willis Medical Center. He is survived by his devoted and dedicated wife, Martha Rosser; ten loving children, one devoted, Christine Wilson, Clarene Williams, Hazel Howlett, Sheila Brockett, Shirley Fitzgerald, Debra Scott, James Jr., Michael, Kenneth and Ricky Rosser; 22 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, five sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law, two sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, host of other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Streets, where funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 16, 2 p.m., Rev. Lawrence A. Wilson Sr. officiating, eulogy by Elder Robert A. Purnell. Interment Maury Cemetery. Relatives and friends attending funeral services assemble at the funeral home Tuesday, 1:30 p.m.

Departed this life April 11, 2002, George T. Seaborn of 2124 W. Cary Street. He is survived by two sisters, Emma Seaborn and Thelma Hendrick; three brothers, Will, Earl and Lawrence Seaborn; one aunt, Annie Poe; several nieces, nephews and cousins; two sisters-in-law, Annie and Gidget Seaborn; one brother, Larry Hendrick; and other relatives and friends. Sammy D. Taylor, 43, of Richmond, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2002. He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly D. Taylor; a sister, Page Gore; two brothers, Jet and Michael Taylor; two nieces, two nephews, and the Hogsten family. His family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Interment Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

TOWERS
Evelyn Pierce Towers of Richmond passed away April 13, 2002. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Loyd Towers; son, Fred Towers and his wife, Judith; sister, Ann Knust; and loving nieces and nephews. Mrs. Towers worked with the Youth Division of the Central United Methodist Church and was devoted to helping others throughout her life. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or a charity of your choice.
