HOBSON
Victor W. Hobson, 82, retired brigadier general, U.S. Army, formerly of Midlothian, died on December 31, 2000 in Fishersville, Va. He was preceded in death by his wife, Migia; and daughter, Susanna Nichols. His daughter and son-in-law, Marlena Hobson and Paul Borzelleca; a grandson, Mike Nichols; a brother, Belcher; and dear friend, Mary Kelsey survive him. Funeral services and burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery. Old Town Funeral Choices is in charge of arrangements.

HORN
Valerie June Horn, 68, died Sunday, December 31, 2000, at her home in Lake Gaston, N.C. She was the mother of Gladys "Cricket" McCafferty of Sandston and Leonard W. Horn of Richmond. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Weymouth Funeral Home, 12746 Nettles Dr., Newport News. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, January 5, 2001, at the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Hampton Veterans Memorial Gardens.

JASPER
Mrs. Eva M. Jasper of Powhatan departed this life January 1, 2001. She leaves to cherish her memories, a devoted husband, Deacon Walter Jasper of 58 years; two daughters, Madelyn P. Allen and Ethel Savoy; son-in-law, Elder William Savoy; six loving grandchildren, Sharon, Michael Sr., Sheila, Yolanda, William Jr. and devoted Marquita A. Goode; 11 great-grandchildren, among them four devoted, Michael Jr., Sidonia, TJ and Jamarl; one devoted great-great-granddaughter, Amayri; two devoted cousins, Mrs. Alberta Cox and Mrs. Sara Ella Smith; brother-in-law, Deacon Frank Jasper; a host of cousins; other relatives and friends. Anthony B. Johnson Sr. "Chief" of 1922 Beaver Rd., departed this life December 30, 2000. Preceded in death by his mother, Stella G. Weaver, he is survived by his devoted wife, Senecca Hill-Johnson; six children, Brittany S. and Anthony B. Johnson Jr. and Myron and Micah Richardson, Allen Johnson and Jamal Thomas; four grandchildren; father, Rev. Richard Johnson Sr.; brother, Richard Johnson Jr.; sisters, Carrie Murray, Toyinette Jackson, Anne Johnson and Charleyn Johnson; aunt, Lillian Carroll; mother and father-in-law, Charles and Evelyn Hill; two brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law; two daughters-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; other relatives and friends. His remains rest at the W.S. Watkins & Son Funeral Home. After 10 a.m. Thursday, his remains will rest in Second Baptist Church, where funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Dr. James H. Harris officiating. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.

JOHNSON
Billy E. Johnson, 76, died at his residence in Cumberland County December 28, 2000. Survivors include his niece, Joyce Berkley of Chesterfield; and nephew, Ernest White of Grafton, Va. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Westhampton Memorial Park. Bliley Funeral Home's handling arrangements.

JOHNSON
William E. Johnson of Richmond departed this life December 29, 2000. He is survived by one son, Ervin Jr.; two sisters, Ethel Williams and Betty Johnson; four brothers, James, Amos, David and Alexander Johnson; other relatives and friends. Graveside service Thursday, January 4, 11 a.m., Maury Cemetery. Relatives and friends attending services, assemble at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts., Thursday, 10:30 a.m.

JONES
Peggy Rose Jones, age 64, of 1065 Jordan Trail, South Boston, died January 2, 2001. Surviving are one sister, Martha J. Northey of Richmond; one brother, William A. "Billy" Jones of South Boston; a niece, Jennifer Martineau of Richmond; two great-nephews, Austin and Chester Martineau; and one great-niece, Hannah Martineau. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday night from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Those wishing to give memorials are asked to consider the Shady Grove United Methodist Church Building Fund, 4129 East Hyco Rd., South Boston, Va. 24592.

KING
Teresa Weinstein King, 91, of Richmond, passed away in her sleep January 1, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis King; and her parents, Abraham and Millie Roth Weinstein. She is survived by her only child, Ruth Ann King; one sister, Regina Goodman of California; three brothers, Marcus and Phillip Weinstein, and Joe West, all of Richmond; and a host of relatives and friends; devoted friends, Judy Mallory, Dianne Preston and Shirley Jones. Teresa King was a favorite student in the Department of Painting and Printmaking at VCU and accepted a special award at the Department Annual Larrick Center Student Exhibition of VCU. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in Hebrew Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Teresa W. King.

LAWLOR
Harold J. Lawlor, 82, of Richmond, died Monday, January 1, 2001, after a long illness. He is survived by his wife, Anne Seward Lawlor; and his children, Eileen M. Lawlor of Monterey, Mass., Susie K. Lawlor of St. Petersburg, Fla., and H. Seward Lawlor and his wife, Rebecca N. Lawlor of Hampton, Va.; a granddaughter, Claire Lawlor of Hampton; two sisters, Bridget Krochmal of East Hanover, N.J. and Patricia Napolipano of New York, N.Y. Mr. Lawlor was a retired realtor and former owner of Harold J. Lawlor & Company and retired as Lt. Col. after 29 years of service in the U.S. Army Reserves. Family will receive friends at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Tuckahoe Volunteer Rescue Squad or the Richmond Home for Boys.

LAWSON
Samuel Gates "Jack" Lawson, of Powhatan, died January 2, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Helen Lawson; one daughter, Brenda Wood of Chesterfield; one son, Sam Lawson of Powhatan; one brother, Paul Lawson of Powhatan; five grandchildren, Michelle Wilkerson, Scott Wood, Craig Wood, all of Powhatan and J.G. Lawson III and Sean Lawson, both of Richmond; three great-grandchildren, Jessie, Josh, and Hunter. Mr. Lawson was a Past Master of Powhatan Masonic Lodge 294 A.F.&A.M. and was a member of Eastern Star Chapter 146. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bennett and Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy., Powhatan. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday in the Red Lane Baptist Church, Powhatan. Interment Powhatan Community Cemetery.

MARTIN
Mrs. Christine G. Martin, age 97, died January 1, 2001 in Farmville. She was the widow of Rupert Martin. Funeral services 2 p.m. Thursday at the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, Darlington Heights. Interment in church cemetery. Remembrances to the Patrick Henry Boys' Home, Brookneal, Va. 24528. Doyne-Burger-Davis Funeral Home, Farmville, Va., in charge.

McCANTS
Mr. George Morris McCants, 86, of Petersburg, Va., passed away Friday, December 29, 2000, at Hampton, Va. He was a native and lifelong resident of Petersburg and was the son of the late George A. and Blanche Wells McCants. Mr. McCants was a retired supervisor from Seward Luggage Manufacturing. He is survived by two sons, Aubrey M. McCants and wife, Nancy of Hampton, Va., David A. McCants and wife, Barbara of Fort Wayne, Ind.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 5, 2001, 11 a.m. at the graveside in Blandford Cemetery with the Rev. Bailey Jones officiating. The family will receive friends at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home Thursday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Southside Virginia Emergency Crew, P.O. Box 574, Petersburg, Va. 23804.

MOORE
Ruth Hill Moore, 68, of Portsmouth, formerly of Richmond, Va., passed away January 1, 2001. She is survived by her former husband, Carroll R. Moore; and their seven children, Edward C. Moore (Teeboo), Brenda Moore Jaffe, Debbie M. Rutledge, Wanda M. Schriner, Sandra M. Floyd, Melanie M. Jones and Tommy Moore; 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and two brothers, Frank Hill and James Hill. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 4, at 11 a.m. in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

NEAL
Marian J. (Val) Neal of Richmond, died Saturday, December 30, 2000. She is survived by her devoted husband of 46 years, William T. Neal; a son, Robert C. Neal and his wife, Mary Taylor; granddaughter, Marian Daniel Neal; grandson, William Carter Neal; her mother, Marian C. Jarrell. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, with interment in Westhampton Memorial Park.

PAYNE
Mrs. Elizabeth Hoge Payne, 81, of Petersburg, Va,, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2000. She was a native of Pembroke, Va., and was the daughter of the late Chapman Snidow and Lillian Williams Hoge. Mrs. Payne is survived by her husband, Dr. Francis R. Payne Jr.; three daughters, Carole P. Pilcher, Mary F. Payne, both of Petersburg, Elizabeth P. Bach and husband, Stephen F. of Macon, Ga.; four grandchildren, E. Mason Pilcher II and F. Robert Pilcher, both of Petersburg, Christopher A. Bach and Lauren E. Bach, both of Macon, Ga.; and one brother, Dr. John C. Hoge of Boynton Beach, Fla. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, January 4, 2001 at 11 a.m. in the Mausoleum at Southlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Prince George County, Va. with the Rev. C. Bailey Jones and the Rev. Robert F. Johnston, Pastor of St. Marks United Methodist Church officiating. The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Carole P. Pilcher. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Marks United Methodist Church, 225 Clairmont St., Petersburg, Va. 23805. Mrs. Payne's family is being served by the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.

PEMBERTON
Lee Herndon Pemberton, born January 3, 1906, died December 30, 2000. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Fensom Pemberton. He is survived by a son, Donald Lee Pemberton and his wife, Joe Anne; grandchildren, James Richard Pemberton and his wife, Susan, Susan Lee Tennant and her husband, Leonard and Amy DeShazo Pemberton; great-grandchildren, Emily and Paul Pemberton and Rebecca Tennant. Mr. Pemberton started his career as an electrician, served in the U.S. Navy and retired from the U.S. Department of Defense. He was a seventy year member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, serving on the vestry for many years as both junior and senior warden, also serving as Sunday School Superintendent and a trustee of the church. Remains rest at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, January 4, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Laurel St. and Idlewood Ave. Interment in Riverview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrews Church Organ Fund.

PRATALI
Jean Marie Pratali, artist in the local Richmond area, left this life Saturday, December 30, 2000, to join in the eternal mystery. She is survived by her mother, Dorothy H. Pratali of Richmond; her son, Neal H. Clay III of Las Vegas, Nev.; her sister, Patricia Pratali of Salem, Va.; and her brother, Wayne Pratali of Costa Mesa, Calif. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at the residence on Thursday at 2 p.m.
