VINCIL
Donald E. Vincil Jr., age 50, of Dryden, Va., passed away Saturday, December 30, 2000, at the Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport, Tenn. He was born in Norton, Va., on September 27, 1950. He recently moved from Richmond, Va., where he was vice president of Design Carpet Distribution. He is survived by two sons, William Berkley Vincil of Wilmington, N.C., Wesley Brandon Vincil of Richmond, Va.; his parents, Donald E. Sr. and Frances Ramey Vincil of Dryden, Va.; one brother and sister-in-law, James and Joyce Vincil of Richmond, Va. Calling hours will be Wednesday evening, January 3, 2001, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Pennington Gap, Va. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday from the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Bud Stidham officiating. Committal services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 4, 2001, at the Powell Valley Cemetery in Dryden, Va. Sturgill Funeral Home of Pennington Gap, Va., in charge of arrangements.

WALKER
Robert Clark Walker, 83, of Williamsburg, died Monday, January 1, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Ada Lovie Walker; one daughter, Robin Burge and her husband, Robert of Richmond; two grandsons, Robert Walker Burge and Christopher Alan Burge, also of Richmond; one brother, William Magee of Roanoke; and close friend, Michael D. Maddocks of Williamsburg. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, January 3, 2001, at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Arrangements by Nelsen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Williamsburg Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, 404 North Boundary St, Williamsburg, Va. 23185; or the American Cancer Society.

WALSH
Molly Walsh, 91, widow of Alexander Walsh, died in Phoenix, Ariz., on December 24, 2000. She is survived by her four children, Sandra O'Neill of Richmond, Noreen Ireland, Dennis Walsh and Jan Queen, and their spouses; her four sisters, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 6, at 3 p.m. at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, 10627 Patterson Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Virginia.

WEAVER
Mary Foust Plonk Weaver, a longtime resident of Greensboro, N.C., and widow of Bill Rhodes Weaver, died Saturday night, December 30, 2000. Mrs. Weaver was the eldest of five children of the late Elvira and John Oates Plonk of Kings Mountain, N.C. A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, January 3, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 2105 West Market Street, Greensboro, N.C., with the Reverend James T. Prevatt presiding. Visitation will be immediately after the service. Mrs. Weaver was a piano teacher and homemaker. She had been an active member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and was instrumental with her husband in beginning St. Barnabus Episcopal Church. She was known for her Bible study groups. She was a member of the Greensboro Euterpe and its Music Teachers Group. She was also active in the Historical Book Club of North Carolina. A graduate of the New England Conservatory, she taught public school music in the Raeford and later Durham City Schools prior to her marriage and move to Greensboro where she began a long career of teaching piano and elocution. Mary Foust's dedication to preserving her family's land surrounding the pinnacle of Kings Mountain, site of one of the turning points of the American Revolution, contributed to the protection of the area as a North Carolina state park two weeks ago. Surviving are her daughter, Monette Weaver Wood, M.D., a pediatrician in Richmond, Va., and her husband, Roger Enoch Wood, D.D.S.; a son, Reagan Hale Weaver, an attorney in Raleigh, N.C., and his wife, Ardath Goldstein Weaver; sisters, Mrs. William H. McElwee and Mrs. Robert E. Lewis of North Wilkesboro, N.C., Mrs. Maude Harper Patterson of Kings Mountain, N.C.; brother, John O. Plonk Jr. and wife, Patricia Neisler Plonk, also of Kings Mountain; five grandchildren, Alyssa A.Wood of Bloomington, Minn., Laura W. Nightengale of Clayton, N.C., Ryan A.Wood of Austin, Texas, and Jacob Haft Weaver and Janna Clare Weaver of Raleigh, N.C.; one great-grandson, Cooper Nightengale. Memorials may be directed to the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro, 100 S. Elm Street, Suite 307, Greensboro, N.C. 27401-2638 for a scholarship in Mrs. Weaver's name to assist students who wish to pursue formal training in music. Arrangements by Brown-Wynne, Raleigh, N.C.

WHITE
Ernest W. "Bubba" White of Richmond entered eternal rest December 30, 2000. He is survived by his father, Rev. Sam White; ten children; one loving and devoted son-in-law, Corey Lancaster; two devoted friends, five brothers, five sisters, one devoted uncle, six aunts, eight grandchildren, a host of other relatives and friends. Remains rest at The F. E. Dabney Funeral Home, Henry St., Ashland. Funeral Thursday 1 p.m. at Abner Baptist Church, Glen Allen. Rev. Sam White officiating, assisted by Rev. Gordon. Interment Roselawn Memory Gardens. The remains will rest in church one hour prior to funeral services. The Dabneys' Morticians in charge of arrangements.

WILLIAMS
The Rev. John Page Williams of Charlottesville, formerly of Richmond, died Saturday, December 30, 2000, at the age of 90, after a brief illness. He was a retired Episcopal clergyman who had spent his entire career as a teacher, chaplain, headmaster and administrator of independent, church-related schools. Born in Richmond, he graduated from St. Christopher's School and the University of Virginia. He attended Virginia Theological Seminary for one year and then studied at Christ Church College, Oxford, as a Rhodes Scholar. He was ordained to the ministry in 1935 and taught at Groton School in Massachusetts before returning to St. Christopher's as headmaster in 1940. After 11 years there, he was elected dean and executive vice president of the church schools in the Diocese of Virginia, a post he held until his retirement in 1975. He received honorary doctor of literature and laws degrees from Hampden-Sydney College and a doctor of divinity degree from Virginia Theological Seminary. During his career, Dr. Williams served on numerous regional and national boards, including the National Association of Independent Schools and the Council for Religion in Independent Schools. For the past ten years, he was an active member of the community at the Westminster-Canterbury of the Blue Ridge. Behind all the credentials stood an energetic and multi-talented but modest man who was dedicated to making Christian education work for generations of young people in a changing world. In his spare time, he was a voracious reader and an avid gardener who loved his native state, from the Blue Ridge and the state capital to the Northern Neck, where his family maintains a summer cottage on the Potomac. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth Patterson Williams of Charlottesville; a daughter, Elizabeth Williams Poist and her husband, David of Charlottesville; a son, John Page Williams Jr. and his wife, Louise of Annapolis, Md.; three grandchildren, Kelly Margaret Williams, Margaret Frances Poist and Chad David Poist; a sister, Cyane William deBordenave of Alexandria; and two brothers, Armistead Dandridge Williams of Williamsburg and Richard Burwell Williams of Richmond. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Memorial Church, Charlottesville, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 4, with a gathering afterward in the parish hall. Committal will take place at Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, January 5, with a memorial service in Richmond to be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to St. Paul's Memorial Church, St. Christopher's School or the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.

WOOD
Thomas B. Wood, age 69, of Richmond, passed away Monday, January 1, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Martha P. Wood; two sons and their wives, Mark W. Wood and Susan and Barry B. Wood and Roberta, all of Richmond; also four grandchildren, Heather Marie, Elizabeth Ann, Tiffany Anne, and Thomas David Wood. Mr. Wood was owner and operator of the Art Market for 43 years. Family will receive friends at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, and where memorial services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, January 4. Burial of cremains at 1 p.m. at Fine Creek Baptist Church, Rt. 711, Powhatan Co. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fine Creek Baptist Church, c/o Reba Myers, 3312 Huguenot Trail, Powhatan, Va. 23139 or VCU Painting and Print Making Dept., T.B. WOODWARD
Benjamin Franklin Woodward Jr., 68, of Chester, formerly of Goochland, died Saturday, December 30, 2000, in Chippenham Medical Center of congestive heart failure. He is survived by his wife, Grace Woodward and her children and grandchildren; his brother, Robert A. Lewis; his daughter, Joyce Crowder; his son, Clarence Woodward and his children and grandchild; and a number of cousins in Goochland. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Chesterfield Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday and Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

AVERETTE
William Michael Averette, 50, of Chesterfield, died on Friday, December 14, 2001 in Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg. Mr. Averette was born in Oxford, N.C. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Averette. He is survived by his mother, Beulah Redd Averette of Chesterfield; his brother and sister-in-law, Roy Earl and Judy Averette of Moseley, Va.; and a nephew, Jonathan Averette. He is also survived by his grandmother, Mrs. Bobbie Redd of Colonial Heights; and by many aunts, uncles and cousins. A funeral service will be Monday, 11 a.m., in the chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, with the Rev. John Brothers officiating. Burial to follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George County. The family will receive friends, Sunday, December 16, 2001 at the funeral home from 3 to 4:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contribution may be made to the Ettrick-Matoaca rescue Squad.

BROWN
Ida Mae Brown of Hopewell departed this life December 11, 2001. She is survived by her devoted husband, John E. Brown Sr.; three daughters, Denise Y. (James) Jefferson, Louise (Richard) Miffin and Janice (George) Cotman; three sons, John E. Jr., Ivan and James Brown; 18 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, two sisters, seven brothers, three sisters-in-law, three aunts, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at J. Leroy Charity Funeral Home, Charles City. At noon Monday Mrs. Brown will rest at New Vine Baptist Church, where services will be held 2 p.m. Rev. Burrell Smith Jr. officiating. Burial church cemetery.

CARLSON
Hilton Weymouth Carlson Sr., age 84, of Kilmarnock, Va., died Thursday, December 13, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Marcella Flint Carlson; a daughter, Janet C. Worsham, Kilmarnock, Va.; two sons, Hilton W. Carlson Jr., Matthews, Va. and David L Carlson, Richmond, Va; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Mitchell T. Carlson Sr. and Charles N. Carlson, both of Kilmarnock, Va. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean C. Dunaway. Remains rest at the Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock, Va., where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and where funeral services wil be held 2 p.m. Sunday. Interment with Masonic Rites at Roseland Cemetery, Reedville, Va. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lancaster Union Masonic Lodge No. 88, AF&AM Building Fund, P.O. Box 363, Kilmarnock, Va. 22482.

CRAFTON
Cynthia W. "Cindy" Crafton, 52, of Victoria, Va., died December 14, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Robert V. "Bobby" Crafton; her daughter and son-in-law, Reannon C. and Adam D. Davis of Forest, Va.; two sisters, Wanda W. Anderson of Victoria and Peggy M. Whittaker of Richmond; two brothers, James L. Whittaker of Greensboro, N.C. and William A. Whittaker of Richmond; two devoted sisters-in-law, Nancy C. Lewis of Prince George and Gayle C. Edmonds of Dundas. Cindy was an insurance representative with Monumental Life Insurance Co. and a member of Victoria Christian Church. The family will receive friends at the Staples Funeral Home, Victoria, Saturday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Funeral Services will be conducted Sunday, December 16 at 2 p.m. in the Victoria Christian Church. Interment Lakeview Cemetery, Victoria. In lieu of flowers please consider memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or the Virginia Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.

DOWDY
James E. Dowdy, 89, of Richmond, died Thursday, December 13, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Bessie B. Dowdy; four children, Janice Briggs and her husband, Ed, Brenda Brock, Kenneth Parr and his wife, Janet and Allan Parr and his wife, Terry; seven grandchildren, Ted and Kristi Briggs, Mason and Teri Brock, Jamie McDaniel and Zach and Leah Parr; four great-grandchildren; eight sisters, Gertrude Anderson, Bernice Coakley, Myrtle Davenport, Lois Duncan, Katherine Joholski, Joann Lewis, Julia Malberg and Epsie Patterson; two brothers, the Rev. Herman A. and Robert Dowdy; also many nieces and nephews. Mr. Dowdy was a retired plant superintendent for Bethlehem Steel with 41 years of service, and a member of Skipwith United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of Skipwith United Methodist Church.

DUNCAN
Joe R. Duncan, 63, of Richmond, passed away December 12, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Sherlene Duncan; six daughters, one son, three brothers, six sisters, 21 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m Saturday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday. Interment Dale Memorial Park.

EBLEN
Jeffrey N. "Jeff" Eblen, 25, of Baton Rouge, La., a native of Chester, Va., died Tuesday, December 11, 2001, in Jefferson Parish, La. Jeff was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He is survived by his wife, Kayla Townsend Eblen; two sons, Logan and Cade Eblen; his mother and stepfather, Diane and Michael Eppers of Stafford, Va.; his father, Keith Eblen, and his grandparents, Jim and Cathie Brubaker and James Eblen, all of California; four sisters, Allison Stover, Katelyn Newbill, Samantha Eblen and Sarah Eppers; two brothers, Robert and Matthew Eppers. He was laid to rest on December 14 in Port Hudson National Cemetery, Baton Rouge, La.

FLOWERS
Betty Haynes Flowers, age 86, died Thursday, December 13, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis A. Flowers. She was a member of the Ridge Baptist Church. Survivors include one son, Reginald "Bill" Flowers and his wife, Sheila; one granddaughter, Mindy N. Flowers; two sisters, Thelma Brown and Nannie Chenault Eacho; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the West Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad St. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 17, 2001 at the Ridge Baptist Church. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tuckahoe Volunteer Rescue Squad.
