Jean was educated in the secondary schools of Louisville and graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, Mo. She earned her B.S. from University of Kentucky. She was also a graduate of the School of Medical Technology at Norton's Infirmary in Louisville. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Dr. Lee W. Shaffer. A tireless needle-worker, she completed many canvases for friends and family. The kneeler cushions for South Roanoke United Methodist Church were a special project for her. A memorial service will be held at the South Roanoke United Methodist Church on Thursday, May 17, 2001, at 2 p.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Rescue Mission, Patrick Henry Boys & Girls Plantation, Brookneal, Va., or South Roanoke United Methodist Church.
