GARDNER
Lewis Taylor Gardner, 74, of Manakin, Va., died December 12, 2001. He has scheduled his last golf game. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Martha Anne; his three daughters and their husbands, Anne Louise and Michael Frazer, Mary Grace and John Stanley and Alice Gaye and Maury Flagg; his beloved grandchildren, Eiren, Christopher and Matt; his brothers, Tom Gardner and Bill Gardner; his sister, Mary Beth Warner; his nieces, nephews, and his many, many good friends. Lewis graduated from the Virginia High School in Bristol, Va. and attended the University of Virginia, where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Lew was an active member of Hermitage Country Club and participated in the Senior Men's Golf Association. Lew was also a proud member in good sitting of the Goochland Inside Straight and Literary Society, as well as several charitable organizations. His family would like to celebrate his life with his many friends at 7 p.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2001 at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad St. Lewis will be greatly missed by his family and his friends. Memorials to the Goochland Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, Manakin Station No. 1, P.O. Box 306, Goochland, Va. 23063, are encouraged in lieu of flowers.

HANCOCK
John Garner Hancock, 62, of Richmond, died December 13, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Nancy A. Hancock; a daughter, Sharon Martin; two stepdaughters, Karen Sutton and Pamela Mann; a brother, Frank Hancock of Shacklefords, Va.; two sisters, Joan Poe and Florence Weeks; stepgrandson, Joshua Sutton. Mr. Hancock was a retired Richfood employee. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contirbutions may be made to the Open Door Baptist Church.

HANDY
Alice Sebree Handy, age 89, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 11, 2001 at Washington Adventist Hospital, Takoma Park, Maryland. Her husband, Brady Sylvester Handy, preceded her in death in 1994. Loving mother of daughters, Doris Murray of Hyattsville, Md., Marle Bragg of Los Angeles, Calif., Irene Warner of Wicomico Church, Va., Evon Ervin of Washington, D.C., Lillian Handy of Springfield, Va,; and sons, Brady Sylvester Handy (Brother Edward, Franciscan Friar), and Andrew Handy of Baltimore, Md.; devoted sister of Inez Bates of Heathsville and Charles G. Sebree of Baltimore, Md. Also survived by six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and many, many friends. Visitation will be held at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Wicomico Church, Va. on Saturday, December 15, 10:30 a.m. until service of celebration at 12 noon. HINES
Donald E. Hines, 90, of Richmond, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor F. Hines; also one niece and several nephews. Mr. Hines served in the United States Army/Air Force during WWII. He retired as Chief of the Occupational Therapy Department with McGuire's Veterans Hospital. "Grandpa" was a longtime member and Deacon of Grove Avenue Baptist Church, and was very involved with their Christian School. Remains rest at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Grove Avenue Baptist Church. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Grove Avenue Baptist Church.

JACKSON
Mrs. Aretha M. Jackson, formerly of Richmond, died in Philadelphia, Pa. December 6, 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley A. Watkins; son, Melvin O. Strother; 19 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Alvin, Martin and Florence Strother and Annie George; nieces, nephews; cousins, one devoted, Evelyn Childs; a host of other relatives and friends. Her remains rest a the W.S. Watkins & Son Funeral Home. After 9:30 a.m. Saturday, her remains will rest at New Canaan International Church, 1709 Byron St., where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Rev. Owen Cardwell officiating. Interment Roselawn Memory Gardens.

JOHNSON
Alice Grayson Johnson, of Union Level, died December 13, 2001. A member of Ebenezer Baptist Church for more than 60 years, clerk of the church for 45 years. Survived by a great neice, Amy Elliott Pow of Danville and a faithful cousin, Betty DeOrnellas of South Hill and many other cousins. Services Saturday 2 p.m. in Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home. Interment in the Andrews family cemetery near Union Level. Visitation Friday 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and at all other times in the home of Reverend and Mrs. Stephen DeOrnellas, 1165 Twin Cedars Rd., Union Level. Lotus Davis Marker, age 75, of Crewe, widow of Henry E. Marker, died Tuesday, December 11, 2001. She is survived by her daughters, Phyllis M. Owens of Richmond, Ginger M. Ward of Keysville; grandchildren, Jennifer, Justin, Jessica, Greg and Lexi; her sister, May Yeatts of Crewe. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Crewe United Methodist Church. Interment in Trinity Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Jennings-McMillian Funeral Home Friday, 5 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Crewe United Methodist Church.

MARR
James Frederick "Freddie" Marr Sr., 84, of New Kent, died Thursday, December 13, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Jane P. Marr; two sons, James Frederick Marr Jr. of Florida and Alfred Leigh Marr; three sisters, Edna "Vonnie" Tuck of Highland Springs, Geneva Philbates of West Point and Joyce Adams and her husband, Aubrey of Sandston; two brothers, Vanlew Marr and his wife, Betty of Hopewell, Va. and Clayton Marr of Richmond; also one sister-in-law, Janet Marr of Eland, Wis.; six grandchildren and one great-grandson, Tate Kitchen of North Carolina. Mr. Marr was a WWII veteran. His remanis rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will recieve friends all day Friday and where funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday. Interment Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery, New Kent. In lieu of food and flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Kent Volunteer Rescue Squad.

MAYTON
Frances Marie Hall Mayton, 63, of Richmond and formerly of Chase City, died December 12, 2001. She was a graduate of Bluestone High School. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Charles Clifton Mayton; one son, Charles Kenneth Mayton of Richmond; two daughters, Joan M. Pollock of Mechanicsville and Lisa Gale Mayton of Richmond; five grandchildren, three stepdaughters, four stepgrandchildren, 10 stepgreat-grandchildren; beloved sister and brother-in-law, Mary and William Womack of Hopewell; and a devoted Christian family at Hanover Baptist Church in Glen Allen, Va. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Clarke Funeral Home, Kenbridge, where funeral services will be conducted Saturday, December 15, 2 p.m. Interment in Kenbridge Heights Cemetery.

MOSELEY
John E. Moseley, 72, of Alberta, Va,. died December 10, 2001 at MCV. A memorial service will be held at Hickory Run Baptist Church in Rawlings, Va., 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2001. He is the brother of Elizabeth M. Burns of Richmond and the father of Velma M. Weaver of Mechanicsville.

MYERS
Mandy Michelle Myers, 16, of Mechanicsville, died Tuesday, December 11, 2001. She is survived by her parents, Walter and Bonnie Myers; her brother, Billy Myers and his wife, Doreen; her sister, Kim Stargell and her husband, Jimmy; her paternal grandmother, Annie Myers, the widow of George Myers Sr.; her maternal grandmother, Catherine Bromley, the widow of Raymond Bromley. She is also survived by one nephew, Paul Myers; four nieces, Cigi and Lindsey Myers and Lexi and McKenzie Stargell; and a devoted friend, Anthony Abele. Mandy was predeceased by two special aunts, Mattie Edwards and Tibby Sullivan. She is also survived by six uncles, Charles Edwards, George Myers and his wife, Mildred, Jimmie Myers and his wife, Betty, Campbell Brann Jr., Edward Brann and his wife, Sandra, Ed Smith and his wife, Cindy; three aunts, Dottie Mowles and her husband, Preston, Carolyn Rainer and her husband, David, and Ann Smith; lots of cousins and countless friends; and her dog, Blossom. Mandy was a junior at Lee-Davis High School and in the nursing program at Richmond Technical Center. She was an avid dance student of Judy Matassa's "The Dance Studio" and participated in numerous dance recitals. She also attended Atlee Community Church. Her remains rest at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and where services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, December 15, 2001. Rev. Chris Hembrough and Rev. Rick Bates officiating. Interment Washington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mandy M. Myers Scholarship Fund, Lee Davis High School, for a student pursuing a career in nursing. Mandy touched so many lives with her smiling, caring and loving ways towards everyone's path she crossed. She had designated herself as an organ donor, and so her death will provide the gift of life to others. She truly was an angel on earth.

PARKER
Mildred W. Parker went to be with her Lord on Thursday, December 13, 2001. She left behind her husband of 55 years and best friend, Cecil J. Parker Jr. She is also survived by five children, Cecilia and Guy Hall of Richmond, Va., Jerry and Kathy Parker of Chester, Va., Tim and Mary Lynn Parker of Burke, Va., Cheryl and Richard Ives of Glen Allen, Va. and Colleen and Jerry Hammitt of Glen Allen, Va.; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandson; five sisters, Ruth Martin of Richmond, Va., Virginia Guyton of Louisville, Ky., Mildred Hobbs of Emporia, Va., Kathy Barnes of Emporia, Va. and Josephine Porter of Courtland, Va. Mildred was a devoted wife, mother and friend. She was loved and admired by all who had the pleasure to know her. She served the County of Henrico for over 30 years as a school bus driver, a career she dearly loved. Remains rest at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Building Fund at Mt. PARRISH
Charles Linwood "Lin" Parrish Jr., 47, of Ashland, died December 13, 2001. He is survived by his mother, Melba Allsbrook of North Carolina; father, Charles L. Parrish Sr.; three brothers, Herman, Allen and Tony Parrish; two sisters, Angela P. Wyrick and Melanie Parrish; two nieces, Laura and Sarah Wyrick; two nephews, Tony Jr. and Brad Parrish; many cousins; and his dog, Mutt. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Reid Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday. Interment Signal Hill Memorial Park.

PATRICK
Helen Simopoulos Patrick, born October 25, 1925, departed this life Wednesday, December 12, 2001. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 50 years, Ted. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be missed by everyone whose lives she touched. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Dean and Bonnie Patrick, John and Toni Ann Patrick and Pam and Bill Benos; nine grandchildren; one sister, Penelope Roupas; two nieces, Irene Bacas Thornburg and Patricia Roupas Sotos; four nephews, Jim Bacas, Frank Roupas, Peter and Elias Simopoulos; other relatives and devoted and loving friends. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., where funeral services will be held 12 noon Saturday, December 15. Edward C. Pinchbeck, 82, of Lakeside, passed away December 11, 2001 in McGuire's Veterans Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Louise W. Pinchbeck; niece, Dorothy Mallory of Lakeside; nephew, Bubba Pinchbeck of Lawrenceville, Va. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday. Tardarelle Postell departed this life on December 8, 2001. "Tar," as he was called by his family and closest friends, was a loving and spiritual person whose memories will be cherished forever. In addition to his devoted mother, Sheila Postell; and father, Ronald Minor; he is survived by his sister, Charlotte Postell; grandmothers, Catherine Postell and Louise Minor; three nephews, one niece, five aunts, three uncles and a host of other relatives and friends. ROE
Ralph K. Roe, 81, died Wednesday, December 12, 2001 while under hospice care. A 1943 graduate of Randolph-Macon College, Ashland, Va., Mr. Roe retired from the USNR and the federal government (NASA). Mr. Roe is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lorienne Roe; son, Ralph and daughter-in-law, Lesley Roe; one sister, Gertrude Wills; two grandchildren, Ann and Emily Roe. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynne Roe. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Foundation of the Florida Suncoast, 300 E. Bay Dr., Largo, Fla. 33770.
