SPICER
Linwood F. Spicer, age 58, of Mechanicsville, Va., went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, December 12, 2001. Mr. Spicer was owner of Spicer Fence Company for 25 years. He leaves behind his wife, Jean M. Spicer; his daughter, Lori S. Martin and her husband, Jerry; his son, Floyd Keith Spicer; two granddaughters, Taylor Elayne and Hannah Elisabeth Martin; three sisters, Beverly S. Parsley, Barbara S. Ogles and Sharon S. Robbins; and three brothers, Thomas L., Walter Gravitt and Wayne Spicer. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Rd. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, December 14, 2001 at Gethsemane Church of Christ with interment to follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Gethsemane Church of Christ Building Fund.

Mrs. Shirley Marie White-Tart, formerly of Richmond, departed this life on December 10, 2001, in Jacksonville, Fla. A retiree of A.T.&T. She leaves to mourn their loss, very loving and devoted children, Sharonette L. (Warren Smith) Green, Lolita (Joseph) White-Fleming, Valerie (Keith Sr.), White-Howey, Marilyn White-Kinsey; foster daughter, Mary Patricia (Herbert) Perez; 11 grandchildren, Joette Whittingham, Rashae Stubbs, Christopher White Jr., James Green III, Herman McLean, Jermond Green, Kei'shae Howey, Sharnique Green, Linwood Neal Jr., Keith Howey Jr. and Kei'Ara Watson; three foster-grandchildren, Everette Preston, Marlon and Natia Davis; three great-grandchildren, Christopher White Jr., Sa'Veon Pleasants and Jarette Whittingham; three brothers, James P. Craig, Charles Craig, Samuel Harrison; sister, Mae Pearl Harrison; a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and other relatives, devoted friends, Burnette Jones and John E. Jones. Funeral rites will be held at Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church, 5100 Salem St. Saturday, December 15, 2001. Dr. Robert E. Williams, officiating. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery. Stanley Lewis Temple, of Bronx, N.Y., formerly of King William County, Va., departed this life September 11, 2001 at the World Trade Center, Tower One in Manhattan, N.Y. He leaves to cherish his memory two sisters, Pearl Dunston and Carrie Temple of Richmond, Va.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. THORNTON
Ruth L. Thornton, age 83, of Aylett, Va., passed away December 11, 2001. She is survived by her husband, James E. Thornton Sr.; son, James Jr. (Geri), two daughters, Grace L. Thornton and Bernice Humphries, both of Richmond; one brother Robert (Julia) Davis of Richmond; one sister, Charity Green of Mechanicsville; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; eight sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; other relativs and friends. Her remains rest at the Henry W. Dabney Funeral Home, 518 N. Washington Hwy., Ashland, where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday. Rev. Charles Jackson officiating. TURNER
Portia Jane Turner, age 84, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, December 12, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Reverend Archer V. Turner. Mrs. Turner was a member of Union Baptist Church and was a retired teacher. Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Woll and husband, John; one son, Reverend Archer G. Turner and wife, Cynthia; one sister, Royal Mae Schuchman; one brother, John David Sedgwick; four grandchildren, Joy Breggman, Steven Turner, Vanessa Woll and Brandon Woll. A celebration of her life, conducted by her son, the Reverend Archer G. Turner, will be held Sunday, 2 p.m. in the chapel of Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service.

WATTS
Marie Ann Watts of Chester died Wednesday, December 12, 2001. Her husband, Peter Watts; son, Jeff (April) Watts; daughter, Cheryl W. (Alex) Padilla; and four grandchildren, Jake, Andrew, Alexis and Allie survive her. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday, December 17, 2001 at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia, Va. J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Chester, is in charge of arrangements.

WILSON
Isabel Louise Wood Wilson, 82, of Richmond, departed this life on December 12, 2001. She was the widow of Earl Clements "Gunner" Wilson and is survived by two daughters, Donna Wilson Curry and Bonnie Wilson Trice; two sons, Earl C. Wilson Jr. and his wife, Barbara Catlett and Mason Eugene Wilson and his wife, Diane Smigo; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Ray Curry, Jill Renee Curry, Tracy Wilson Rogers, Earl C. Wilson III, Sherry Wilson Cummins, Brian Christopher Wilson, Valerie Suzanne Wilson; five great-grandchildren, Franklin George Rogers IV, Rachelle Lee Rogers, Tanner Quentin Cummins, Justin Earl Wilson, Ashley Nicole Wilson; a sister, Dorothy Elizabeth Wood Mays; one niece, Veeanne Mays Crenshaw; one nephew, Vincent Kent Mays Jr. Mrs. Wilson was a member of River Road United Methodist Church, a retired employee of the Federal Reserve Bank, a member of Spares and Pairs Dance and a volunteer for the American Red Cross (Cedarfield). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Christmas Mother Fund or the Richmond Ballet. We will miss you, Mom. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

WINDMUELLER
Otti Y. Windmueller, 85, of Richmond, widow of Fred Walter Windmueller, passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2001. She was Professor Emerita of the Department of Fashion at VCU. She is survived by her son, Steven; and daughter-in-law, Michelle of Los Angeles, Calif.; her sister, Toni Stern of Silver Spring, Md.; her brother, Bill Heimann of South Africa; and numerous nieces and nephews including Inge Horowitz of Richmond. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, December 14, 2001 in Emek Sholom (Forest Lawn Cemetery). In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Otti Y. Windmueller Scholarship Fund, University Advancement, 828 W. CHAPMAN
Lawrence L. Chapman, age 85, of Richmond, died May 4, 2001. He was predeceased by his wife, Tate Chapman; and two sons, Linde and Bill Chapman. He is survived by a daughter, Charlotte Chapman; and a son-in-law, Dwight McCall; seven grandchildren, Richard, Laura, Lee and Shannon Chapman, Kathleen Hair, Karen Angilello and Angie Beckham; and six great-grandchildren. His remains rest at Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 12 noon until funeral time at 2 p.m. Sunday. Interment Dale Memorial Park. COBB
Robert T. Cobb (Bob Cobb the Pool Man), 65, celebrated his homegoing Thursday, May 3, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Anna L. Cobb; his son, Ferris A. Cobb and his wife, Marsha; his daughters, Tami Franks and her husband, Jim, April L. Cobb and Verna Miceli; 14 grandchildren; three sisters, Dixie L. Nowak and her husband, Frank, Patsy Inge and Frone Harris; numerous nieces and nephews, other devoted family and friends. Mr. Cobb served his country in the U.S. Navy, was a talented self-taught artist and poet, as well as a loving, caring husband, father, grandfather and brother. His remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends Sunday 5 to 8 p.m., and where services will be conducted 12 noon Monday. Interment 3 p.m. Monday in Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News, Va. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association.

De CHEUBEL
Kay de Cheubel, age 50, of Highland Springs, departed this life on May 3, 2001. She was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Purcell. She is survived by her loving husband, Darrell M. de Cheubel Sr.; five devoted children, Darrell, Lisa, Walter, Kevin and Niel; five grandchildren, Codey, Paige, Mika, Austin and Courtney; three sisters, Nora Lee Chamberlyn, Connie Johnson and Ruthann Fox; three brothers, Lester, Don and Roger Simmons; cousins, Roy and Troy Carter, Faye Causway and Donna Johnson; nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, May 6, at K. L. Jordan Funeral Services, 5008 Nine Mile Rd. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. DUNNAVANT
Claudine H. Dunnavant, age 80, of Charlotte Court House, died Thursday, May 3, 2001. She was a member of Village Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Taylor Dunnavant. Surviving are one granddaughter, Suzanne Hurt of Telluride, Colo.; one daughter and son-in-law, Claudia and Kevin Koch of Ladysmith, Va. The family will receive friends at the Browning Funeral Home from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Village Presbyterian Church with interment in Evergreen Cemetery.

GAFFNEY
Mary Helen Tunstall Gaffney, 88, of Richmond, died May 2, 2001. She was the daughter of the late William Henry Sr. and Dora Judd Stayner Tunstall of Chase City. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Elsie May Gaffney Hobbs. Survived by daughter and son-in-law, M. Constance and Luther B. Jones Jr.; four grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one stepgreat-grandson. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

GARNETT
Ruth V. Garnett, 95, of Gloucester, Va., died Thursday, May 3, 2001. Her husband, Austin William Garnett; and two grandchildren, Richard Todd Garnett and John Wayne Garnett, preceded her in death. She was a loving mother and is survived by four daughters and two sons, Mary Ann Horsley of Mathews, Marie G. Rose of Chester, Arlene G. Tucker and Juanita G. Walker, both of Gloucester, Francis A. "Dick" Garnett of King and Queen Court House, and Robert N. Garnett Sr. of Middlesex; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Sunday 2 p.m. at Vincent Funeral Home, West Point, Va., with burial in Shacklefords Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Shacklefords Chapel Building Fund, P.O. Box 585, West Point, Va. 23181.

HARTMAN
Nannie Lawson Hartman, 94, of Mountain City, Tenn., passed away Thursday, May 3, 2001. Mrs. Hartman was a native of Johnson County, Tenn., and was daughter of the late Jesse and Nancy Elizabeth Curry Arnold. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Hartman, who died in 1968; a son, David L. Hartman; and a daughter, Blanche Dunn. She was a member of Locust Gap Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors include three sons, J.D. Hartman and Roy Frank Hartman of Aylett, Va., Jesse Coy Hartman Jr. of Mountain City; four daughters, Mary Elizabeth Hughes and Shelby Jean Flannigan of Mechanicsville, Betty Jo Hartman of Mountain City and Mildred Lee Martin of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; two brothers, John E. Arnold of St. Louis, Coolidge Arnold of Mountain City; two sisters, Beulah Mink and Rosa Lee Dunn of Mountain City; 29 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Gethsemane Church of Christ Cemetery in Mechanicsville. Arrangements by the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home. Robert Lee Heaton Jr., age 42, of Richmond, died Thursday, May 3, 2001. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Grady T. "Tiny" and Mary Shereda Grant; companion, Rosalie Sandler; one brother, Jerry Heaton of Louisa; sister, Mary Lee Heaton of Varina; several aunts, uncles and nephews. Remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at Poplar Springs Baptist Church. Interment church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Poplar Springs Baptist Church or the Jewish Community Center.
