LEVERS
Richard C. Levers, Major, U.S. Army, Ret., age 84, of Sandston, passed away September 15, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Evelyn Jones Levers; his daughter, Martha Estes of Mechanicsville; one grandson, Michael B. Estes and his wife, Susan of Newport, Va.; a granddaughter, Pamela E. Daniel, also of Newport, Va.; his sister, Virginia Schmitt of Wilmington, N.C.; his brother, Leroy F. Levers of Orange, Calif. Mr. Levers retired from the U.S. Army after 21 years of service and served in World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the Sandston V.F.W. Post 8529. A memorial service will be held at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., 11 a.m. on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Henrico Volunteer Rescue Squad. MAYE
Lewis W. Maye Sr. of Richmond departed this life Monday, September 16, 2002. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral notice later.

McDANIEL
Alexander L., 98, died September 15, 2002. Survivors include four sons, Allen (Marie), Howard, Reuben and Fred (Edna) McDaniel; one daughter, Norma M. Richardson (Ralph); brothers, Robert, Thomas Lloyd (Rosa) and Herman (Mary); sisters, Pearl Glass and Martha Atkins; and many grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Wednesday at Bliley's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., followed by funeral service at 2 p.m. Interment Dale Memorial Park.

McLEOD
Carl Buckingham McLeod, 49, of Union, Ky., died September 15, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Carol Hester McLeod; stepdaughter, Erica Brown; mother, Anne Buckingham McLeod; father and stepmother, Leroy L. and Alice McLeod; sister, Karen McLeod Jeffrey; brother, Mark L. McLeod of Smithtown, Long Island, N.Y.; stepsister, Carolyn; and stepbrother, Michael; and the Hester family; three nephews, James Jeffrey, Iain McLeod and Evan McLeod; two nieces, Meredith McLeod and Meredith Jeffrey; and three uncles, George McLeod of Roanoke, William Buckingham of Savannah, Ga. and Harry Buckingham of Stratford, Conn. Carl graduated from Tucker High School and attended VCU, belonging to Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He was in Information Technology with AT&T for many years before going with IBM. He was involved as a volunteer with People Living with Parkinson's. A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Reveille United Methodist Church, 4200 Cary Street Road, on Wednesday, September 18, at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to MADD - Mothers Against Drunk Driving, 4914 Radford Avenue.

MILLER
Lewis "Sonny" Miller passed away September 15, 2002. He is survived by his beloved wife, Angie, of 23 years; four children, Wanda (Jim), April (Richard), Sheila (Ricky) and Kenny (Sheila); seven grandchildren, Audrey, Tony, Chrystal, Michelle, Maria, Timmy and Corey; one sister, Gay Stasko. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Private services.

MINTON
Nannie Brockwell Minton, 87, of Charles City, died Monday, September 16, 2002. She is survived by three nieces, Faye Hite, Kim Harris and Barbara Comfort; one nephew, Stewart Brockwell. Remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 South Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. MOBLEY
Irene C. Mobley entered eternal rest September 13, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Mobley; and a daughter, Alice Palmer. She is survived by three daughters, Mary Graves and Dorothy Tyler of Ashland, Nora Bowles of Chesterfield; two sons, James and Arthur Tyler of Ashland; one stepson, Elwood Mobley of Richmond; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; one son-in-law, Larry Bowles; one daughter-in-law, Nettie Tyler; one sister-in-law, one brother-in-law, two aunts and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Remains rest at the F.E. Dabney Funeral Home, Henry St., Ashland. Funeral Wednesday 1 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church. Pastor Levy M. Armwood officiating. Interment Providence Cemetery. The remains will rest in church one hour prior to funeral service.

MORGAN
Departed this life peacefully Saturday, September 14, 2002, Mr. Sam Morgan Sr., age 74, of Blackstone, Va. He is survived by his devoted wife, Mamie Wilson Morgan; daughters, Kathleen Drummond (Luther) of Victoria, Va. and Caroleen Claiborne (Harold) of Blackstone, Va.; one son, Sam Morgan Jr. (Yolanda) of Blackstone, Va.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, three sisters, five brothers, five brothers and sisters-in-law; mother-in-law, Bertha Wilson; and a host of nieces, nephews and devoted friends. Remains rest at W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home, Blackstone, where the family will receive friends Tuesday, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 18 at 11 a.m. from Poplar Lawn Baptist Church, Blackstone. Interment church cemetery.

NOEL
Margaret Clarke Noel, 83, of Richmond, Va., died September 16, 2002 at Prince William Hospital, Manassas, Va. Her husband of 50 years, William Carlisle Noel, passed away in 1987. She was the daughter of the late Hilton and Emma S. Clarke. She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Noel Crowe and her husband, Fred; and one son, Douglas Wayne Noel and his wife, Betty. She was blessed with seven grandchildren, Derek, Daryl, Ronald and Rodney Crowe, Melanie Crowe Brown and Deron Noel and Kimberly Noel Martin. She also had nine great-grandchildren. Mrs. Noel was a member of Westhampton Baptist Church, Eastern Star and several Senior Clubs. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., with the funeral service at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 18. Interment will follow in Westhampton Memorial Park, Richmond, Va. Memorial contributions may be flowers or donations to the Alzheimer's Assoc. Research, 11240 Waple Mill Rd., Suite 402, Fairfax, Va. 22030 in memory of Margaret C. Noel.

NORDLINGER
Martin Stanford Nordlinger, 72, of Richmond, formerly of Norfolk, a longtime real estate broker in Richmond, died September 15, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Zelda Kingoff Nordlinger; two daughters, Joanne Faith Nordlinger, and Sharon Hope Nordlinger; two stepchildren, Debra Margaret Markel and Samuel Andrew Markel; sister, Gertrude N. Hoffer; seven grandchildren, one niece. Mr. Nordlinger attended Maury High School, Salisbury School in Connecticut, and received his bachelor's degree from Yale University in 1951. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He later received a master's degree from New York University. He was a member of the First Unitarian Church of Richmond, the 5400 Men's Club, and the American Civil Liberties Union. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk, handled by H.D. Oliver Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Civil Liberties Union.

RICE
Carolyn Boatwright Rice, of Buckingham, Va., died September 15, 2002. She was born February 23, 1917 in Buckingham, Va. to the late John B. Boatwright Sr. and Grace J. Boatwright. She was educated in Buckingham and Jacksonville, Fla. schools and received both graduate and undergraduate degrees from Longwood College. She served in the Army and Air Force in the U.S. and Pacific theaters during WWII and the Korean War for thirteen years, resigning her regular Air Force commission as a major in 1955. She taught junior and high school students in Buckingham Co. Public Schools for 18 years. She was a member of Maysville Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder and held every office in the Presbyterian Women. She was a charter member of the Buckingham Historical Society and Friends of the Buckingham County Public Library, where she had served on the Board of Directors. She was a regular volunteer at the library since it first opened. For a number of years, she served on the Vocational Advisory Council of Buckingham High School. She belonged to a number of veterans' organizations and community and educational clubs. She is survived by her son, James M. Rice and his wife, Deborah S. Rice; one granddaughter, Shana R. Browde, all of Illinois; her sister, Nancy B. Moss and her husband, J.P. Moss of Buckingham, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, John B. Boatwright Jr., and Major (Ret.) Frederick L. Boatwright, and her sister, Louise B. Broome. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 21, 2002 at 2 p.m. at Maysville Presbyterian Church with interment in Buckingham Baptist Church Cemetery, Gold Hill. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society, care of Ms. Audrey Llewellyn of Buckingham, Va.

ROBINSON
Samuel "Bear" Robinson, 27, of Chester, passed on Sunday, September 15, 2002. He is survived by his parents, Samuel and Miyoko Robinson of Chester; sister, Joyce R. Strahorne of Richmond; niece, Ashley Strahorne; nephew, Curtis Johnson; uncle, Clyde Robinson; aunt, Geraldine Moye; and a host of other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, followed by a memorial service at 7 p.m. at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10). Interment will be private. SCHMIDT
Donald Warner Schmidt, 61, of Richmond, died suddenly Saturday, September 14, 2002. He was a native of Little Rock, Ark., and had lived in Richmond for 23 years. He had worked in sales and most recently was the owner of Antique Corner. He was active in many civic organizations, having served as an officer in the Jaycees and also president of his community association. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Pat L. Schmidt; a daughter, Sandy S. Scialdone and husband, Greg; a son, Donald W. Schmidt Jr. and wife, Caroline. Also surviving are his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Fred I. Goff; and five grandchildren, Drew, Hayley and Emily Scialdone and Mary Hollis and Sarah Schmidt. The family will receive friends at the West Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 Broad Street Road Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m., where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday with burial to follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

SMITH
Katherine Kennon Smith of Chesterfield died Sunday, September 15, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Joseph Parke Smith; and is survived by her sister, Ollie Kennon Cole; niece, Faye Beauchamp; nephew, Warren M. Griffin; six great-nieces and great-nephews, Laurie Ursiny, Katherine Eike, Susan Barlow, Christina, Joseph and Philip Griffin. Mrs. Smith was the former owner of Kitty Smith Personnel. A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Road. Memorial contributions may be made to Manchester Rescue Squad.

TRAINA
Eleanor O. Traina, 59, of Chesterfield, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 15, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Joseph H. Traina Sr.; sons, Joseph H. Traina Jr. and David A. Traina; sister, Carol O. Heffner. Mrs. Traina was a member of the Chester Outreach Church of the Nazarene. Her family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10). Her funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. James "Kitty Kat" Turner, age 51, departed this life September 12, 2002. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Candace N. Turner; loving mother, Eddie Mae Coleman; brother, Barry Turner; six aunts, three devoted, Mrs. Estelle Watkins, Aunt Irvene and Deacon James Jackson and Mariad Jackson; one devoted niece, Chavonne Cooper; other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Chiles Funeral Home, 2100 Fairmount Ave., where funeral services will be held on Wednesday, 1 p.m. Interment Oakwood Cemetery. CHILES

The Reverend Marshall Taylor Ware, 66, died at home on Sunday, September 15, 2002. Mr. Ware was the son of the late Dr. Harry Hudnall Ware Jr. and Mary Warren Williams Ware. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Patricia Coxe Ware; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ware Gibson and Dr. F. Brian Gibson; sons and daughters-in-law, Marshall Taylor Ware Jr. and Jill Brammer Ware, John McAlister Ware and Lisa Mincey Ware; and three grandchildren, Taylor, Andrew and Claire Gibson. Two brothers, Dr. Harry Hudnall Ware III and Dr. James Latane Ware, and a sister, Isabel Ware Burch, also survive him. Most recently, Mr. Ware served as Pastoral Care Counselor at St. Joseph's Villa in Richmond. He served as Assistant Rector and Curate at All Saints Church, Richmond, from 1961-1964; as Associate Rector at Christ Church, Charlotte, N.C. from 1964-1969; as Rector at Grace Church, Hopkinsville, Ky. from 1969-1971; as Associate Rector at Christ Church, Warren, Ohio from 1971-1973; and as Chaplain at St. George's School, Newport, R.I. from 1974-1976. Mr. Ware served in interim positions at All Saints Church, Richmond; Church of the Redeemer, Midlothian; St. Paul's Church, Hanover; Emporia and Grace Church, Purdy; Grace Church, Goochland; St. Paul's and Grace Churches, Millers Tavern; St. Paul's Church, Kenbridge; Christ Church, Raleigh, N.C.; St. Philip's Church, Richmond; and St. Christopher's School, Richmond. He graduated from St. Christopher's School, received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Virginia and earned his Master of Divinity from Virginia Theological Seminary. Mr. Ware was a member of St. James's Episcopal Church, Richmond. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 18 at St. James's Episcopal Church. Interment in Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Villa, 8000 Brook Rd., Richmond, Va. 23227; or St. Christopher's School, 711 St. Christopher's Rd., Richmond, Va. 23226.
