Channie W. Oliver
Channie Wade Oliver, 95, of 155 Canton Drive, Fieldale, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
She was born in Henry County on Jan. 24, 1910, to John Wade and Annie Hairston. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Oliver.
She was retired from Jobbers Pants as a seamstress and she was a member of New Bethel Christian Church, where she was a Mother of the Church and involved in the C.W.F.
Surviving are two daughters, Gaynell O. Prunty and Lula H. Scales, both of Fieldale; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at New Bethel Christian Church with the Rev. Mable Finney officiating. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Monday at Hairston Funeral Home from 6 to 7 p.m. and at other times at the residence on Canton Drive.

Mae W. Shelton
The funeral for Mae Williams Shelton, 84, of Patrick Springs, who died Dec. 27, 2005, was held Friday at Liberty Primitive Baptist Church with Elder John Wingfield officiating. Burial was in the Shelton-Branham family cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ronnie Bowles, Roy Bowles, Jimmy Young, Randall Justice, Darrell Shelton and Neil Stallard.
Moody Funeral Home in Stuart was in charge of arrangements.

Irene G. Slaydon
The funeral for Irene Fair Grogan Slaydon, 99, who died Dec. 27, 2005, was held Friday at McKee-Stone Funeral Services with Minister David Epler officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.
Pallbearers were Ken Barnes, David Clear, John Clear, Garrett Sirt, Tony Green and W.C. Ratcliff Jr.

Jerrod T. Smith
Jerrod Tyrone Smith, 22, of 824 Haywood Road, Birmingham, Ala., died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at his residence.
He was born in Rocky Mount on Feb. 16, 1983, to Larry Smith of Danville and Sharon Draper Smith of Birmingham. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James Archie Draper; and his paternal grandmother, Dorothy Vaughn Smith.
He was a member of Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, surviving are a brother, LaRon Smith of Birmingham; his maternal grandmother, Kathelleen Draper of Bassett; and his paternal grandfather, Rev. Robert Smith of Madison, N.C.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Carlton Redd officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends a half hour before the funeral.
Hairston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

James O. Walton Sr.
James Otis Walton Sr., 70, of 1007 "B" Street, Martinsville, died Friday, Dec. 30, 2005, at his residence.
He was born in Henry County on Aug. 7, 1935, to Tom Walton and Ethel Mae Divens. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nina Mae Brim.
He was retired from American of Martinsville as a sprayer with 48 years of service.
Surviving are two daughters, Ethel Walton Johnson of Martinsville and Mary Walton Suber of Greensville, S.C.; two sons, James Walton Jr. of Roanoke and James Edward Brim of Martinsville; two sisters, Cornell W. Penn and Ethel W. Johnson, both of Martinsville; four brothers, Charlie Walton, Benjamin Walton and Lenwood Walton, all of Martinsville and Tom Walton of Lumberton, N.C.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hairston Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Eric Hairston officiating. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends a half hour before the funeral and at other times at the residence on "B" Street.
Hairston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

David Whitlow
The funeral for David Alan Whitlow, 50, of Bassett, who died Dec. 27, 2005, was held Friday at Collins Funeral Chapel in Bassett with the Rev. Gary Edwards officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.
Pallbearers were George Clark, Todd Merriman, David Alley, James Foley, Elmer Hall, John Craig, Doug Ramsey, Tim Daniel and Mike Parcell.

Jane Arrington
Jane Arrington, 67, of 1428 Plantation Drive, Collinsville, died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
Norris Funeral Services and Crematory will announce arrangements.

William B. Boggs
CLAREMONT, N.C. -- William Bruce "Bill" Boggs, 76, of Hickory, formerly of Martinsville, Va., died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005, at Lutheran Home-East in Hickory from a 5-year battle with myeloid leukemia.
He was born in Claremont on May 5, 1929, to Fitzhugh Boggs and Verdie Lee Loftin Boggs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Bruce Boggs; a granddaughter, Nicole Leigh Austin; a grandson, Shane Christopher Austin; an infant sister, Parlier Cornelia Boggs; and a brother, Walter Roy Boggs.
He worked for over 17 years with General Electric as a computer specialist in the Payroll and Measured Day Work Systems fields. He retired from Tultex after 15 years of service in management field of operations.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Edith Caroline Harrison Boggs of the home; a daughter, Elizabeth Carol Boggs Gilbert of Martinsville; a brother, the Rev. Dr. J. Russell Boggs of Claremont; three grandchildren; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 3216 W. Main St., Claremont, with the Rev. Scott Bollinger and Vicar Jason Lee officiating. Burial will be in Catawba United Methodist Church cemetery.
The body will be on display for one hour before the funeral in the Nave of the church, and the family will receive friends from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mark's Family Life Center.
Memorials may be made to Leukemia Research, Wake Forest University, Baptist Medical Center, Medical Center Blvd., Winston-Salem, N.C. 27157.

Anna L. Manns
Anna Lee Manns, 90, of 410 Swanson Street, Martinsville, died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, at Beverly Healthcare.
Hairston Funeral Home will announce arrangements.

Ruby L. Potter
Ruby Law Potter, 86, of Glade Hill, died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005, at Franklin Health Care in Rocky Mount.
She was born Dec. 6, 1919, to Claude Benton Law and Ida Josphine Simpson Law. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Harold Potter; a son, Aubrey Wayne Potter; and a brother, Raymond Benton Law.
She graduated from Glade Hill High School where she played basketball, sang and played guitar in the school string band. She played and sang music in other community events as well.
Surviving are two daughters, Pamela S. Potter and Patricia Quinn LaPrade; a son, James Donald Potter; a sister, Frances Matthews Arrington; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and special friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Lynch Funeral Home chapel, 140 Floyd Ave., Rocky Mount, with Pastors Joe Dillon and Tom Siddle officiating. Burial will be in the Law family cemetery.
Friends may call after 3 p.m. today at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. and other times at the home of Pamela Potter, 950 Timber Ridge Road, Glad Hill or at the home of James Potter, 93 Tobacco Road, Glade Hill.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Roanoke Valley SPCA, P.O. Box 11863, Roanoke, Va. 24022 or to Glade Hill Rescue Squad, 5090 Old Franklin Tpk., Glade Hill, Va. 24092.

Jennie Lou Saul Rea, 76, of Stuart, died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005, at North Carolina Baptist Hospital.
