BRAXTON
Edward W. Braxton Sr. (Woody), 63, of Glen Allen, Va., departed this life Saturday, December 1, 2001 at Henrico Doctor's Hospital. He was a retired Master Sergeant USMC after 30 years of service. He served two tours of combat duty during the Vietname War. He received two Purple Hearts, Navy Commendation Medal with the combat "V" for meritorious service. He also received the Bronze Star and Navy Cross. He is survived by his devoted wife, Lyndall B. Braxton; his two sons, Edward W. Braxton Jr. and Robert A. Braxton; two daughters-in-law, Chyrel H. Braxton and Lucy P. Braxton; two grandsons, Larry T. and Gabriel R. Braxton; two sisters, Lillian B. Cosby and Yvonne B. Fleming; five brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law; two devoted aunts, Elva L. Statten and Ida A. Johnson; three uncles and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. His remains rest at the Henry W. Dabney Funeral Home, 518 N. Washington Hwy., Ashland, where the family will receive friends 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral service 2 p.m. Thursday at Mangohick Baptist Church, King William Co., Va. Rev. BURKETT
Maggie C. Burkett was born October 25, 1925 in Camden, S.C. She quietly entered into eternal rest on November 30, 2001. Her daughter, Josie B. Crawford; and son, Willie J. Burkett preceded her in death. She is survived by her devoted son, Deacon Alonzo Burkett; devoted daughter, Vivian B. Henderson; two grandchildren; devoted daughter-in-law, Minuet Burkett; son-in-law, Paul Henderson; one aunt, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Chiles Funeral Home, 2100 Fairmount Ave., where funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, 12 noon, with Evangelist Shirley Reed officiating. Interment Oakwood Cemetery. CLARKE
Frances Campbell Clarke, 87, of Richmond, widow of Herman E. Campbell and Miles C. Clarke, died Sunday, December 2, 2001. She is survived by her son, William E. Campbell of Richmond; her daughter, Jean C. Jankowski of Syracuse, N.Y.; four grandchildren, William E. Campbell Jr., Barrie Elizabeth Martin, Michael S. Jankowski and Jeffrey C. Jankowski; and four great-grandchildren, Ryan Martin, Cassidy Martin, Kayla Marie Jankowski and Alysa Lee Jankowski. Mrs. Clarke was a member of the former Calvary Baptist Church. Remains rest at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., where the family will receive friends 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday and where services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 6. DICKERSON
Virginia Sours Dickerson, 72, of Amelia, passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2001. She was the widow of Hugh Dickerson Jr. and is survived by her children, Hugh Dickerson III, Wayne Dickerson, Roy Dickerson, Sam Dickerson and Jenny Garrett; grandchildren, Shanna, Chris, Trey, Cole, Jason, Shawn, Austin and Cody Dickerson; sister, Doris Derickson of St. Louis, Mo. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd. Funeral service 1 p.m. Friday at Central Baptist Church. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park.

DIGGS
A. Braden Diggs Sr., age 95, of Richmond, died Saturday, December 1, 2001. He was formerly associated with the Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company, starting his career in 1929. He served in various capacities, including that of general agent in partnership with his father, Gaius W. Diggs. He was educated at McGuire University School and was a graduate of the University of Richmond. He was a member of the Richmond Association of Life Underwriters, General Agent and Managers Association, and the Virginia State Association of Life Underwriters, where he held office in each. He is survived by one son, A. Braden Diggs Jr. and his wife, Patricia; one grandson, A. Braden Diggs III and his wife, Teresa; one granddaughter, Lauri Diggs Rawson and her husband, Ted; and two great-grandchildren, A. Braden Diggs IV and Kaitlyn Taylor Diggs. Mr. Diggs was a lifelong member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, where he served on the Vestry frequently. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 5, at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church or to the Forest View Volunteer Rescue Squad.

FALWELL
Ethel Hatcher Falwell, 89, of Mechanicsville, widow of J. Conley Falwell Jr., died Monday, December 3, 2001. She is survived by a daughter, Connie Falwell Garner of Midlothian; a son, Kenneth Ray Falwell of Mechanicsville; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Falwell was a member of Mechanicsville United Methodist Church and was retired from Miller & Rhoads. The family will receive friends 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Laburnum Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 2110 East Laburnum Ave., where services will be held Wednesday at 6 p.m. Interment 11 a.m. Thursday at Fort Hill Cemetery in Lynchburg. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Mechanicsville United Methodist Church, 7356 Atlee Rd., Mechanicsville, Va. 23111.

GARRETT
Louise Pearl Shell Garrett, 77, of Lucy Corr Village, died on Monday, December 3, 2001 at Lucy Corr Village, Chesterfield. She was a native of Chesterfield and was the daughter of the late William Thomas and Rosetta Bosher Shell. Mrs. Garrett was a member of Clover Hill Baptist Church, Richmond. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Lee Garrett. She is survived by her husband, James Monroe Garrett of Lucy Corr Village; three daughters and two sons; Barbara G. and husband, Stuart M. Wheelhouse of Colonial Heights, Phyllis and husband, Pete French of Alabama, Gloria G. and husband, John Longest of Chester, James Larry and wife, Elizabeth Garrett of Jetersville, Va. and Steven Wayne Garrett of Prince George; 20 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; three brothers, Everett Shell, Albert Shell and Herman "Bookie" Shell; three sisters, Sarah Golden, Irene Hotz and Martha Baird; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, December 6, 2001, in the chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, with the Rev. Calvin Eaves officiating. Burial to follow in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. The family will be receiving friends Wednesday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. GRIGGS
Kenneth I. Griggs, age 72, of Tampa, Fla., died Friday, November 30, 2001. He was a lifelong resident of Tampa. worked at General Telephone Company as an inventory management specialist for 18 years. He also retired from the U.S. Air Force as a sergeant. Mr. Griggs was also of the Lutheran Faith. He is survived by his wife, Esther G. Griggs, Tampa; daughter, Sheila M. McIntyre, Tampa; brother, Mike Griggs, Pittsburg, Kan.; sisters, Linda Lunberg, Pittsburg, Kan. and Judy Meyer, Charles City, Va.; two grandchildren. HILL
William Palmer Hill Jr., 85, of Chesterfield, died December 1, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Bridget Hill; his children, Susan Thompson, Elizabeth Thompson, Mimi Wilk and William Palmer Hill III; sister, Elizabeth Walker; five grandchildren. Mr. Hill was a retired Naval Lieutenant Commander, a graduate of Davidson College, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma, and also a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and of the Country Club of Virginia. Interment of ashes will be held 12 Noon Thursday at Hollywood Cemetery, with a 2 p.m. memorial service at St. John's Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Davidson College Alumni Fund, Alumni Relations Office, P.O. Box 1770, Davidson, N.C. 28035 or St. John's Episcopal Church Capital Fund, P.O. Box 886, Chester, Va. 23831-0886.

HOLLOWAY
Guy M. Holloway Jr. peacefully passed away with his loving family surrounding him on Monday, December 3, 2001. Jack, as he was known, lived courageously with diabetes. and was a lifelong resident of Montpelier and a lifetime member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. His parents, Guy M. and Candy Holloway; his brother, Thomas; and his daughter, Margaret Rose preceded Jack to eternal glory. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 48 years, Dot; his three sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Linda Mann, Guy and Linda Holloway, Allen Holloway and Lisa Sigmon; his sisters, Mary Lena Brown, Margaret Taylor and Tebie Beazley; his grandchildren, Jamie, Culley, Matt, Michael, Morgan, Brittnie, Mallory and Taylor; and a great-grandson, Zack; numerous nieces and nephews and a great host of friends. Jack was known by many and loved by all. An avid hunter and champion dog breeder, people came from all over the country seeking Jack's opinion and guidance on sport hunting dogs. Of all his accomplishments, Jack was proudest of his enduring marriage to the love of his life, his three sons and his wonderful grandchildren. Always happy to help anyone and always with a story to tell, Jack retired as owner of Goodway Store. Jack was a charter member of the Beaverdam Ruritan Club. The family will receive friends at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. The memorial service will be held at Shiloh United Methodist Church on Thursday at 12 noon. Catherine Wood Lacy, age 76, died Monday, December 3, 2001. She is survived by her devoted husband, Clifford T. Lacy; two daughters, Diane L. Morin and her husband, Tom and Donna L. Daniels and her husband, Mike; two sons, Clifford T. Lacy Jr. and Robert L. Lacy and his wife, Cathy; five grandchildren, Michael V. Goff, Leslie E. Goff, Erin R. Daniels, M. Tyler Daniels and Caroline E. Lacy; one sister; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad St., where the funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery.

Regina Catherine "Gina" Livingston, age 53, of Chesterfield, Va., formerly of Manassas, died Saturday, December 1, 2001 at Johnston Willis Hospital, Midlothian, Va. Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Charles C. "Chuck" Livingston; three daughters, Dawn Marie Livingston of Chesterfield, Joy Ann Livingston of Henrico and Sherry Lynn Livingston of Chesterfield; and one brother, James E. Litz of San Antonio, Texas. The family will receive friends from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 7, 2001, at Price Funeral Home, 9609 Center St., Manassas. The funeral liturgy will be offered 11 a.m. Friday, December 7, 2001, at All Saints Catholic Church, 9300 Stonewall Road, Manassas. Interment will follow at Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle. John H. Mitchell of New Kent County passed away December 3, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Anita; his children, William F. Nunnally, Denise Rogers, Anita Tatum and Jonnie Ann Konwerski; eight grandchildren; his mother, George Ann Cayton; his brother, George H. Mitchell. He was a dedicated employee of Industrial Alloy Fabricators.
