Departed this life December 4, 2001, Alice Jeanette Moore, of King William Co., Va. Remains rest at the Henry W. Dabney Funeral Home, 518 North Washington Hwy., Ashland. McCarthy, Director.

MOORE
Dianne R. Moore, 50, of Emporia, died Tuesday, December 4, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Stuart K. Moore; three sons, Brad Moore and fiancee, Lisa Norwood, Andy Moore and wife, Christy, and Scotty Moore, all of Skippers; one daughter, Tammy Phillips and husband, Lane of Emporia; six loving grandchildren; her mother, Mary Bolton; one brother, Steve Bolton and wife, Wilma, all of Skippers; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her father, Everett Bolton. The family will receive friends 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Owen Funeral Home in Jarratt where the funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, December 6, 2001. Interment Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.

NELSON
Jordan L. Nelson III departed this life to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 2, 2001. He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Traci Nelson; his father, Demond Mack; one brother, Keyron Davis; two sisters, Jada and Jessica Nelson; five grandparents, four great-grandparents, a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. A funeral service will be held Wednesday (today) at 1 p.m. at Victory Tabernacle Baptist Church International, 600 Chimborazo Boulevard, Pastor J. Kevin Harris officiating. O'CONNELL
John R. O'Connell, 73, of Richmond, passed away December 4, 2001. A loving husband and father, he leaves behind to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 53 years, Dorothy B. O'Connell; daughters, Jacqueline Bates, Diane Becker, Susan Bunch and Karen Gayle; sons, Edward, Robert, Paul, Dennis and John O'Connell; sister, Fayth Janke; 26 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; a special friend, Lovena Hughes, brother-in-law, Wade Bryan and his wife, Annette; numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10). His funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment Dale Memorial Park.

OWEN
Betty Love Owen, age 68, of Green Bay, is survived by her husband, Charles C. Owen; one son, Charles Scott Owen of Richmond; one grandson, Benjamin Scott Owen of Richmond; one brother and sister-in-law, John A. and Jean Love of Green Bay; one nephew, John A. Love Jr. of Green Bay. Mrs. Owen was a lifelong member of the Liberty Christian Church, Green Bay. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2001 in the Liberty Christian Church with interment in the church cemetery. Browning Funeral Home of Keysville in charge of arrangements.

OWEN
Mrs. Phyllis Spain Owen, 83, of Drewryville, widow of Norris Wilson Owen, died Monday, December 3, 2001. She is survived by five sons, William Norris Owen of Suffolk, Robert Edwards Owen of Chesapeake, John Thomas Owen, M.D. of Richmond, Harry Wayne Owen of Atlanta and James Richard Owen of Chesapeake; one daughter, Mary Rebecca Blackburn of Drewryville; three brothers, Charles Spain of San Antonio, Texas; W.J. Spain of Suffolk and Tillman Spain of Hampton; two sisters, Margaret Covington of Drewryville and Jean Jones of Chesapeake; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday (tonight) at Owen Funeral Home in Jarratt, where the funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, December 6, 2001. Interment Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Thomas Memorial Baptist Church in Drewryville or Capron Volunteer Rescue Squad.

POPKINS
George T. Popkins, "Pop the Storekeeper" of WXGI-AM, age 77, died on Sunday, December 2, 2001 of cancer. "Pop" entertained radio audiences for 40 years with his smooth, calm, voice and witty commentary. He was the widower of Norma Bagby Popkins of Richmond and is survived by a daughter, Laura Popkins Richardson and her husband, Chuck Richardson; and three grandchildren, Pete, Mimi and George Richardson; his brother, Paul Pendleton Popkins of Winchester; and many nieces and nephews. He was the recipient of the Richmond Broadcasters Hall of Fame 1999 Frank Soden Life Achievement Award. He was a master sergeant in the U.S. Army and in the military Police Corps and Army Reserves for 25 years. Served as a board member, Deacon and Elder of Seventh St. Christian Church, board member of UNICEF, MARCH, Grace House, FISH, Richmond Ecumenical Parish, and active in various world and local outreach programs. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, December 6, at the Seventh St. Christian Church, 4101 Grove Ave. Graveside inurnment at Forest Lawn Cemetery will follow the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Seventh St. Christian Church, 4101 Grove Ave., Richmond, Va. 23221.

RAGLAND
Mildred Celestine Ragland, 85, of Milford, Va., passed on Saturday, December 1, 2001. She is survived by two sons, Kenneth O. Ragland of Ashland, Va. and Edward A. Ragland Jr. of Ft. Washington, Md.; and one daughter, Evelyn P. Ragland of Milford, Va. Remains will lie in state from 1 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5 at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home in Bowling Green, Va. Family will also receive friends on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at St. John Baptist Church in Milford, Va. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 6 at the church with Rev. W.G. Berryman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Services of comfort entrusted to: C.W. Edwards Funeral Home.

RATHJEN
Gilbert Gordon Rathjen of Colonial Heights passed away at 5:38 p.m., Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, Va., on December 2, 2001. Born August 21, 1931, Jamaica, N.Y., he was the only child of Stella Goldburg Carlson and George F. Rathjen, both deceased. His maternal grandparents, deceased, were Hulda Peterson and John August Carlson of Sweden, who became a citizen of the United States of America, September 28, 1896, Kings County, N.Y. He attended PS57, Richmond Hill, N.Y. and graduated 1948, Brooklyn Technical High School and was a member of that Alumni Association. He was a sergeant in the United States Air Force, Korean Conflict and a member of Post 284 American Legion, Colonial Heights. He was also a member of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, Petersburg, where he served on Church Council, taught Adult Sunday School and served in other capacities. He possessed a great sense of humor and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. He was employed by International Business Machines (IBM) from June 1956 until his retirement in January 1992 as Advisory Systems Engineer. He was a member of The Quarter Century Club. He later served with H & R Block. Married in Richmond, Va., May 26, 1956 to Josephine Margaret Elliott. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Debbie Lee Wessel and husband, Ed; and granddaughter, Samantha Wessel. He had several cousins and was predeceased by a son, Christopher Lee Rathjen, in 1980. The family will receive friends at E. Alvin Small Funeral home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights tonight from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and funeral service, Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 6, 2001, Pastor David Shaffer. Burial will be in Southlawn Memorial Park in Prince George, Garden of the Cross.

SIMPSON
Sarah Glass Simpson of Richmond died Tuesday, December 4, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Ralph H. Simpson Sr.; daughter, Ann Simpson Scott and her husband, Hil Scott and their children, Hannah and Ethan; son, Rick Simpson and his wife, Gina Martin and their children, Eliza and Malcolm; sisters, Mildred Glass Olson of St. Paul, Minn., Mabel Herman Stroud and Mary Glass Waters of Richmond; and brothers, Gordon Glass and John Hunter Glass of Dewitt, Va. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Interment will be private.

SLEDGE
Mrs. Lillie Mae Sledge, 80, formerly of Richmond, VA., died December 2, 2001. She was a native of Waverly, Ala. and a member of Miracle In Motion Church, Martinsville, Va. She is survived by three sons, Willie McCurdy, Leaman, Ga., Robert McCurdy, Washington, D.C., Johnny McCurdy, Richmond, Va.; stepsons, Jesse Sledge, Herman Sledge, Ray Sledge, all of Richmond, Va.; four daughters, Dorothy Bailey of Peterburg, Va., Betty Tolbert, Alabama, Jeanette Sledge, Eden, N.C., Janice Fowlks, Richmond, Va.; stepdaughter, Teresa Terry; brothers, Havert Grubbs, Washington, D.C., Willie Simpson, Richmond, Va.; sisters, Mildred Hicks, Kate Simpson, Patricia Christian, Richmond, Va.; 17 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Perry-Spencer Funeral Home Chapel, Eden, N.C. Burial will be held at Eden Garden Cemetery. Perry Spencer Funeral Home, Eden, N.C., in charge of services and arrangements.

STUHLDREHER
Pattie E. Stuhldreher, 83, of Richmond, died December 4, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Stuhldreher. Survivors include two children, Brent Stuhldreher and his wife, Martha and Lynne S. Reynolds and her husband, Bob; one sister, Anne DeMasi of Raleigh, N.C.; and seven grandchildren, Joshua and Melissa Barton, Lauren, David and Victoria Stuhldreher, Jennifer and Jessica Reynolds. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Entombment will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Dale Memorial Park.

TEBAY
William H. Tebay, 89, formerly of Pittsburgh, Pa., passed away Sunday, December 2, 2001 in Richmond, Va. He was preceded in death by Jean Wilson Tebay, his wife of 22 years, in 1971, and Hilda B. Tebay, his wife of 31 years, in April 2001. He is survived by his devoted daughter, Janie T. Singleton and her husband, D.W. Singleton; and three grandsons, Brian, Michael and David. A memorial service will be held at Southminster Presbyterian Church, 7500 Hull Street Road, Richmond, on Friday, December 14, 2001 at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Forest View Rescue Squad.

TRUEHEART
Departed this life in Norristwon, Pa., John T. Trueheart, formerly of King William County. Remains rest at the Henry W. Dabney Funeral Home, 518 N. Washingtion Hwy., Ashland. McCarthy, director.

WHITLOCK
Willie Walker Whitlock, 76, prominent attorney and land developer of Mineral, died on Saturday, December 1, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Eula Dymacek Whitlock; his son, John D. Whitlock; his daughter, Jane W. Sisk; 10 grandchildren, Mark Wayne, Madeline, Melinda, Meghan, Willie and Winston Sisk and Callie, Eddie, Ellie and Charlie Whitlock; his brother, Robert A. Whitlock; his sister, Dr. Gaynelle Whitlock. A son of the late Edward J. and Alma Talley Whitlock, he was born at the family home in Mineral on November 16, 1925. After graduating from Louisa County High School, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II with foreign service in the Philippine Islands. In 1950, he graduated from the Richmond Professional Institute and in 1953 received a law degree from the Virginia College of Law. He established and operated a general insurance agency in Mineral in 1948 and later established and operated a law practice there. He was a member of the Virginia State Bar, the Piedmont Bar Association and the Louisa County Bar Association, serving as president from 1981 to 2001, and was a member of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association. His portrait was presented and hung in the Circuit Court of Louisa County in 1999. In 1975, he established the Lake Anna Land Corporation and served as Chairman of the Board until his death. Mr. Whitlock dedicated himself to public service. He served as town attorney for Mineral from 1955 until 1998. He was the first County Attorney for Louisa County from 1974-1978. He served as counsel for the Louisa County Library Foundation. He was a charter member and legal advisor for the Louisa County Rescue Squad. He was a member and legal advisor for the Mineral Volunteer Fire Department. In 2000, he organized the Mineral Historic Foundation and served on its Board of Directors. Mr. Whitlock helped organize and was a continuous member of the Louisa County Lions Club for 46 years. He served as president in 1972. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Virginia and recently received his 50-year Master Certificate verifying his service in all offices up to the Worshipful Master of the Lodge. Mr. Whitlock was a lifetime member of the Mineral Baptist Church serving as a Deacon since 1969. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5, at the Mineral Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Mineral Baptist Church, P.O. Box 447, Mineral, Va. 23117, Mineral Historical Foundation, P.O. Box 43, Mineral, Va. 23117, or The Family Foundation, 830 East Main Street, Suite 1201, Richmond, Va. 23219. Woodward Funeral Home, Louisa, is in charge of arrangements.
