Luther Roy "Buck" Adams, 81, of Drakes Branch, died Saturday, November 10, 2001. Surviving are his wife, Elaine Coleman Adams; two sisters, Lucille A. Tucker and Katheryn A. Irby, both of South Boston; four brothers, Harvey Adams, Billy Adams, Clint Adams, all of Drakes Branch, George Adams of Saxe. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery, Drakes Branch, Va. The family will receive friends at the home of Chris and Kim Napier, 9889 Craftons Gate Hwy., Drakes Branch, Va., at all times. Remains rest at the Browning Funeral Home, Keysville, Va.

ANDERSEN
Arnold W. "Andy" Andersen, 82, of Richmond, passed away Saturday, November 10, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Swanhild "Swanee" Andersen; children, Joan Schlueter and her husband, William, Robert Andersen and his wife, Mary, John Andersen and his wife, Frances, and Linda Epperson; grandchildren, Lewis and Sheri Daniel, Jeni and Chris Giles, Jeffrey, Ryan and Brandon Andersen; Kimberlee Epperson, and Chris Schlueter; great-grandchildren, Scott, Jonathan and Luke Giles, and Kaila Epperson; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Andersen was a retired personnel manager with AMF Bakery Division and was a former usher and deacon of Forest Hill Presbyterian Church. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends Sunday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and where funeral services will be held Monday, 12:30 p.m. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Forest View Volunteer Rescue Squad.

BAILEY
Mrs. Dorothy W. (Dot Bee) Bailey of Richmond, departed this life Wednesday, November 7, 2001. She is survived by her son, Walter E. Bailey Sr.; one daughter, Thelma E. Mason; eight grandchildren, Jacqueline, Walter Jr. and devoted, Thomasine Bailey, Linda Lane, Sondra, Alphonso Jr. and Michael Mason and Chelsea Mason-Bland; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Mildred Chavis; one daughter-in-law, Micheline Bailey; one aunt, Louise Henderson; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts., where funeral services will be held Monday, November 12, 11 a.m. Rev. Derik Jones officiating. Interment in the family Cemetery, Ashland, Va. Relatives and friends attending funeral services, assemble at the funeral home Monday, 10:30 a.m.

Thomas L. Bell of 1201 Carlisle Ave. died November 10, 2001. Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. Funeral notice later.

BOWMAN
Mrs. Elizabeth R. Bowman was born on June 1, 1922, in Richmond and died November 9, 2001. She was the oldest daughter of the late William and Dora Robinson. Liz is survived by one son, Reginald L. Robinson; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Elsie Hubbard, Ernestine Robinson and Edith Geraldine Walker; two brothers, Wilbur (Willie B.) and Linwood Robinson; one foster sister, Ethel Snoddy; one aunt, Thelma Robinson, all of Richmond; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; one daughter-in-law, Linda Hill-Robinson; other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St., where funeral services will be held Monday, 1 p.m., Rev. Ronald C. Taylor officiating. Burial Oakwood Cemetery. BUSTER
Mrs. Mary A. Buster of 3203 Tuxedo Blvd. died November 9, 2001. Remains rest at Scott-Lightfoot Funeral Home, 3021 "N" St. Funeral notice later.

BYRNE
John J. Byrne of Ruther Glen, President and CEO of J.J.B. Advertising, Inc., passed away November 9, 2001. He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Ward Byrne and her mother, Marilyn Ward Byrne of Midlothian; his fiancee, Beth L. Phillips and her children, Peter A. Verzi and Kristin Glenn Verzi of Richmond; sister, Jill Zane and her husband, Kenneth and their children, Ashley and Gregory of Chester, Conn.; brother, Christopher Byrne and his family of Westerly, R.I.; sister, Jane Gavin and her family of Aiea, Hawaii; and his many many friends. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, 7:30 p.m. at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or the Woodstock Academy Scholarship Fund.

CARRAGHER
James J. Carragher, 66, of Richmond, died November 8, 2001. Survivors include his wife, Norma Jean; eight children, James Jr., Joan, Jeanne, Mary, Sean, George, John and Michael; 11 grandchildren; one brother, three sisters, several nieces and nephews and other loving family members. Mr. Carragher was treasurer of the Chesterfield County Republican Committee for eight years. He was an active member of Lutheran Church of Our Saviour, Caritas, and LMM. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lutheran Church of Our Saviour, 9601 Hull Street Road. Inurnment private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the church or Thomas Palliative Care Unit, c/o Thomas Hospice, P.O. Box 2510, Midlothian, Va. 23113.

CARTER
Anne Ross Poindexter Carter of Richmond, age 59, died November 9, 2001. Mrs. Carter, widow of F. Winfrey Carter, is survived by her son, Landon W. Carter; and daughter, Jennifer M. Carter, both of Richmond. Mrs. Carter was the daughter of Mrs. Garnett R. Poindexter Jr. and the late Mr. Poindexter. She was the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. B. Murray Williams of Chesapeake and the late Mr. and Mrs. G.R. Poindexter of Louisa County. Mrs. Carter is survived by sisters, Mrs. James Biglow (Martha) and Mr. Biglow of Westminster, Mass. and Mrs. John Samuel (Ginny) of Bel Air, Md.; and four nieces. She is also survived by aunts, Mrs. Dean Potter and Mr. Potter of Virginia Beach, and Mrs. Garrison Lockwood and Mr. Lockwood of Chesapeake; and a number of cousins. Mrs. Carter was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and Westhampton College of the University of Richmond. She worked for more than 25 years for the Virginia Employment Commission. Mrs. Carter was an active member of Westhampton Baptist Church. She enjoyed music and through the years participated in a number of choirs and other choral groups. She served as a volunteer with civic and cultural organizations. Mrs. Carter was a loving mother, daughter, sister and friend. Her ever-present, sparkling sense of humor and sincere friendliness and thoughtfulness endeared her to us all and made our world a better place. The family will receive friends at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m., on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m., and at other times at 4632 Hanover Ave. A funeral service will be held at Westhampton Baptist Church on Tuesday, November 13, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that memorial gifts be made to Bon Secours Hospice or Westhampton Baptist Church.

COMER
Arthur Lee Comer Sr., 81, passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2001 after several years of a courageous fight against several illnesses. He is survived by his former wife, Alice Comer; three children, Arthur L. Comer Jr. of Midlothian, Va., Mary Cofield of Richmond, Virginia and Bertha Reynolds of Bartow, Florida; two sons-in-law, Roland Cofield and John Reynolds; one daughter-in-law, Theresha Comer; one sister, Matilda Hicks of Fort Wayne, Indiana; five grandchildren, Edrick Cofield, Tara Howard, Saketra Ramsey, Chanel Brown and John Reynolds; 12 great-grandchildren and a host of dedicated cousins and other relatives. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 1827 Hull Street, where the family will receive friends Sunday, November 11 from 4 to 5 p.m., and where funeral services will be held Monday, 1 p.m. Rev. Lewis Blakey officiating. Interment Dale Memorial Park. Relatives and friends assemble at the funeral home Monday, 12:30 p.m.

COTTRELL
Matthias Stephen Cottrell, 92, son of Richard and Ellen O'Dwyer Cottrell, died Thursday, November 8, 2001. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, John, Richard, Lawrence and Joseph; and his two sisters, Marie Sullivan and Cecelia "Dolly" Ward. He is survived by his devoted wife of 73 years, Elizabeth Parrish Cottrell; his three children, Ann C. Legnaioli of Richmond, Joseph M. Cottrell and his wife, Jeannine of Farifax, Va. and Beverly Gayle Chapa and her husband, Greg of West Palm Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Mr. Cottrell was a City of Richmond firefighter for over 30 years, retiring in 1975. Most of his career was spent at Truck Co. No. 1 on East Broad St. A Christian Wake service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, November 11, at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave. Graveside services will be held 12 noon Monday at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

CRAIG
Departed this life November 8, 2001, Mr. Leon D. Craig Sr. of 2902 Seminary Ave. He is survived by his devoted wife, Shirley; his sons, Leon Jr. and Lawrence Anthony; two grandsons, David Anthony and Leon III; a granddaughter, Lauren Ramon; a brother, Carl Craig; an aunt, Cassie Craig; mother-in-law, Ida W. Scales; two daughters-in-law, Delores and Fonda; three sisters-in-law, Dolores Craig, Janice Jeter and Maude Saunders; two brothers-in-law, Welforde Scales and Frank Saunders; a myriad of attentive and devoted nieces and nephews; many cousins, among them one special, William Nash; and numerous, caring friends. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St., where the family will receive friends Sunday, 5 to 6 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, 12 Noon at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 909 Rennie Ave. Father Fred Feusahrens officiating. Burial Tuesday, 1:30 p.m. at Quantico National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Paul's Catholic Church, 909 Rennie Ave., Richmond, Va. 23227.

CROCKIN
Mrs. Lucy Waller Gilliam Crockin, 75, of Charlottesvile, died November 2, 2001 at the University of Virginia Hospital after a brief illness. Born January 9, 1926, she was the only child of the late Henry Eugene Gilliam and Juliet Jefferson Hundley Gilliam. She was the wife of Edwin J. Crockin, who also preceded her in death. She was raised in Richmond and was a 1947 graduate of RPI (now VCU) with a B.S. in Social Science. She attended Columbia University in New York from 1950 to 1952 and the VCU Art School from 1974 to 1980. In 1947 she was employed by the YWCA working in Pittsburgh, Pa.; Oklahoma City, Okla. and Philadelphia, Pa. In 1957 she worked for the Philadelphia T.B. Association and in 1960 went with the Health and Welfare Department (now the United Way), retiring in 1972 as the Assistant Executive Director in Richmond. She moved to Roseland in Nelson County after retiring, doing what she loved most: restoring an old Boyd home, gardening, painting and reading. In early 1990 she found it necessary to move to Westminster-Canterbury of the Blue Ridge in Charlottesville and lived there until her death. She was a member of the Rockfish Presbyterian Church in Nellysford. A memorial service will be held at Westminster-Canterbury of the Blue Ridge on November 14, 2001 at 3:30 p.m. in Charlottesville. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or your favorite charity. Byrum-Parr Funeral Home in Roseland in charge of arrangements.

CRUTE
Kathlean Newton Crute, 59, wife of Joe Crute, died Wednesday, November 7, 2001 at Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston. Mrs. Crute was born and reared in Mecklenburg County, was a 1960 graduate of Bluestone High School and a member of Nelson Baptist Church. She was employed with Burlington Industries, Clarksville Finishing Plant, for 38 years. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 10 at Nelson Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery. Rev. James McAlister and Rev. Aubrey Heath officiating. Survivors, in addition to her husband, include sons and daughters-in-law, Tony and Cindy Crute of Richmond and Steve and Amy Crute of Knightdale, N.C.; sisters, Mary Sue Cole of Nelson and Margie Heath of Scottsburg; brothers, Clarence Newton of Ringgold and Dennis Newton of Clarksville; a grandaughter, Kasey Crute; grandsons, Joseph and Jacob Crute; dear friends, Linda Newton, Arthur and Frances Tingen, Gladys Wilkerson and Frances Crute; a host of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Crute was predeceased by three brothers, Charlie, James and Garland Newton. Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

DuBAY
Myrtle Baskett DuBay, age 77, died Friday, November 9, 2001. Myrt worked over 20 years at the City of Richmond Juvenile Detention Home. A Bible scholar, Myrt taught Sunday School for many years at Skipwith Baptist Church and was a volunteer for the Good News Mission prison ministries. Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Harriett R. Baskett and Martha Baskett; four nieces, Cyndie Baskett, Ginger Baskett Glenn, Mary Beth Baskett Joyave and Maria Baskett; one nephew, William Carol Baskett Jr.; E. Clinton Wilkinson, who was like a son to her, and his family; and close friend and caretaker, Doris Viar. A memorial service will be held at Skipwith Baptist Church at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2001. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tuckahoe Rescue Squad.

GEISEN
Raymond H. (Ray) Geisen of Richmond, retired from the FBI and the State Criminal Justice Service System, passed away November 10, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Martha H. Geisen; three daughters, Laura Walser, Mary Kate Felch and Eileen Harvey, all of Richmond; two sons, William Geisen of Centreville, and John Geisen of Elkton, Va.; sister, Irene Whiteside of Richmond; also ten grandchildren. He was a member of the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI. Visitation and prayer service will be held Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. at Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church.

GILES
Percy E. Giles Sr. of Richmond departed this life Friday, November 9, 2001. He is survived by his son, Percy E. Giles Jr.; devoted daughter-in-law, Mrs. Shirley A. Giles; two grandchildren, Chanda J. and Percy E. Giles III; one brother, Delaware Giles; two brothers-in-law, Deacon Walter and Minister Frank Jasper; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. A private memorial service will be held.
