FAZZI
Helen Fuqua Fazzi of Richmond died January 31, 2001. She was the widow of Richard Joseph Fazzi and is survived by her daughter, Frances L. Cassell and husband, Ricky; and son, Richard Joseph Fazzi Jr. and wife, Myra; granddaughters, Jennifer and Taylor Cassell, and Melanie and Stephanie Fazzi; and her beloved dog, Buffy. She retired from C&P Telephone Co. and was a volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital. The family will receive friends 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew's Episcopal Church.

GILLESPIE
Lilla Lucille (Cele) Gillespie of Richmond passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2001, at the age of 92. Born October 6, 1908, in Skipwith, Va., in Mecklenburg County, Miss Gillespie was the daughter of the late Melvin Lee Gillespie and Margaret Ruth Herndon Gillespie. She was the valedictorian of the La Crosse High School Class of 1927. An alumna of Madison College, she received a B.S. in education with concentration in the classics in 1939. Miss Gillespie earned her master's degree in counseling from the University of Michigan. Throughout her career, she continued her post-graduate studies at various institutions, including New York University, Boston University, George Washington University, Richmond Polytechnic Institute, the University of Virginia and the University of Richmond. Miss Gillespie's career in education spanned 43 years in various localities throughout Virginia. She began her career as an English and Latin teacher in Mecklenburg County. She also taught in Fairfax County, where she chaired the English Department at Falls Church High School, and in Bristol, where she was director of guidance. Miss Gillespie proudly served as guidance counselor at George Wythe High School in Richmond Public Schools for 21 years. The Virginia Counselors Association recognized Miss Gillespie for her lifetime achievements and contributions in presenting her a career service award in 1973. Miss Gillespie was also an assistant professor at the College of William and Mary and instructor at the University of Virginia. Following her retirement, Miss Gillespie continued her life of service to others in numerous volunteer activities and with memberships on various career and educational boards, among those are the Virginia Historical Society, American Personnel and Guidance Association, the Shepherd's Center, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Theatre of Virginia, Ginter Park Woman's Club, Westminster-Canterbury and the Edgar Allan Poe Museum. In October 2000, Miss Gillespie was the proud recipient of the Jane Craig Stanard Award for Leadership. This award was given in appreciation for her continuous support and dedication to the Edgar Allan Poe Museum since 1978. She is survived by her sister, Agnes G. Lambert of La Crosse, Va.; nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends, all of whom loved her dearly. The family will receive friends 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Monument and Boulevard, where Miss Gillespie has been a member since 1953. Interment will be held at 2:30 p.m. in La Crosse Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Virginia Historical Society, 428 N. Boulevard, Richmond, Va. 23220; the Edgar Allan Poe Museum, 1914-16 E. Main St., Richmond, Va. 23223; or a favorite charity.

GRAY
Departed this life January 27, 2001, Mrs. Helen Gray, 83, of Goochland, Va. She was preceded in death by her son, Lewis Gray. She is survived by three daughters, Martha Miles, Catherine Allen and Mary Gray, all of Goochland; two sons, Wilbert Gray of Johnstown, Pa. and Ronnie Gray of Goochland; three daughters-in-law, one devoted, Rosa, Priscilla Gray of Goochland and Mary Gray of Johnstown, Pa.; three sisters, Edmonia Brice, Elizabeth McFarley and Dorothy Fife; one brother, Weaver Fife, all of Goochland; 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, three sisters-in-law; one devoted niece, Cathy Fife; and a host of other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Robert Mealy Funeral Home, Goochland. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 2, 2 p.m. at Chief Cornerstone Baptist Church, Goochland. Rev. Adlia C. Allen officiating. Interment church cemetery. Please omit food.

HANCOCK
Benjamin Arthur Hancock, 77, died on January 28, 2001. He is survived by his two daughters, Bet Kormanec and Su Watson; grandchildren, Erin Butterworth, Sarah Butler, Andrew Kormanec; and great-grandsons, Luke Butterworth, Devon and Taylor Butler. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, February 3, 2001, at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Iola C. Head (nee Covington) of Elkridge, Md., died on January 30, 2001. Beloved wife of the late James E. Head Sr.; devoted mother of Esther V. Merson, Patricia G. Williams of California, J. Edward Head Jr. and Jeffrey N. Head; loving sister of Majorie, Donald and Nelson Covington and Marie Robinson, all of Virginia, and June Hundley of Texas. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park Inc. on Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held in the Melville Chapel United Methodist Church, 5660 Furnace Avenue, Elkridge, on Friday, February 2, 2001, at 11 a.m. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Melville Chapel United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, c/o Mrs. Dorothy Smith, 5806 Hunt Club Road, Elkridge, Md. 21075. JENKINS
Gary Allen Jenkins of Colonial Heights died Monday, January 29, 2001, of heart failure. He had served as the pastor of Colonial Heights Assembly of God on Harrowgate Road for the past two years. Gary was born in Oklahoma City, Okla., May 17, 1944, and graduated from U.S. Grant H.S. there. He received his B.A. in Bible from Central Bible College in Springfield, Mo., in 1968. He had been married to his wife, Charlotte for 34 years. His ministry included pastoring in churches in Iowa, California and Virginia and short term missions work in Africa, Romania and South America. He was pastor of Christ Chapel in Woodbridge from 1977 to 1988. Gary is survived by a loving family of three children, Gregory Jenkins of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Kimberly Starks and Julie Ruffin of Highland, Calif.; three grandsons, Corey, Shawn and Ashton; parents, Bert and Nadyne Jenkins; a brother, Mark of Oklahoma City; and a sister, Cyndie Stephenson of Alexandria, Va. He loved sports but his passion was for God, his family and serving people. Visitation will be held at Colonial Heights Assembly of God, 16801 Harrowgate Rd., Thursday, February 1, 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be at the church Friday, February 2, at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Colonial Heights Assembly for the Gary Jenkins Memorial Fund for short term missions.

JENSEN
Lilly Ruud Jensen, born in 1908 in Arendal, Norway, passed away on January 29, 2001, in Delray, Fla. She was the widow of Axel Jensen and the mother of Jean Remington. She leaves behind two sisters, Bergliot of Drammen, Norway, and Borgny of Ocean City, Md. Also surviving are Karen Lee Remington; Leslie R. Carpenter and husband, Al; Jill R. Powers and husband, Mike; John and Beth Remington; Eric and Amy Remington; and eight great-grandchildren. Good Neighbor Village, P.O. Box 17782, Richmond Va. 23226 will gratefully receive memorial donations.

JONES
Eleanor Bottoms Jones, 79, of Urbanna passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2001. She was the widow of Thomas Timberlake Jones, to whom she was married for 54 years. She was a graduate of John Marshall High School and worked for the Selective Service during World War II. Mrs. Jones was a homemaker and later retired as a secretary from John Marshall High School, where she was with the counseling department. She was a member of Urbanna United Methodist Church. A devoted mother to three children and their spouses, Johnny and Sandy Jones, Bill and Mary Beth Jones, Gwen and Joe Coker; ten grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday in Urbanna United Methodist Church. Interment in Middlesex Memorial Cemetery, Urbanna. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home, Saluda. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Central Middlesex Vol. Rescue Squad, P.O. LEE
Curtis Edward Lee of Emporia passed away Saturday, January 27, 2001. He was a native of Thomasville, N.C., and is survived by his wife, Margaret Telfair Lee; two daughters, Tonya Lee Holt of Rochester, Minn., and Kimberly DeVon Lee of Richmond, Va.; one brother, Harold Lee of E. St. Louis, Ill.; three sisters, Edna Jean Shavis and Linda Lee of Thomasville, N.C., and Carolyn Russell of Hickory, N.C.; one son-in-law, Robert Holt; two brothers-in-law, Charles Shavis and Robert Russell; and many devoted nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Mr. Lee was a retired government teacher for the Greensville County School System for 30 years, and he also coached football and track for over 20 years. Upon his retirement, he was an adjunct instructor in psychology at Southside Virginia Community College, and he taught a government class in the School-After-School program in the Greensville County School System. Mr. Lee was an active community leader. He was a member of the Board of Supervisors where he represented District 3 in Greensville County. He served on the following boards, commissions, and committees: Community Youth Center Board of Directors, Greensville Zoning Board of Appeals, Greensville County Draft Board, Crater Planning Commission, Greensville County Highway Safety Commission, Extravaganza 2000 Committee, Greensville County Transportation Committee, Family YMCA of Emporia/Greensville Committee, Greensville/Emporia Coalition for Delaying Parenthood in Youth Committee, Citizens United to Preserve the Greensville County Training School Committee, Concerned Citizens Committee, Neighborhood Watch Committee, Greensville County Retired Teachers Association, Greensville County Credit Union, and the Virginia High School Coaches Association. He was a member of the NAACP. He was also an active member of the Livingstone College Alumni and a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. He remains at rest at Pearson Funeral Home, 556 Halifax St., Emporia, Va. 23847. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 2, 2001 at Royal Baptist Church in Emporia, Va. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 3, 2001 at Greensville County High School. Rev. Abraham I. Walton will be officiating. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 4, 2001 at Central United Methodist Church in Thomasville, N.C. at 2 p.m. Interment in Jamestown, N.C. at Carolina Biblical Gardens. F. Wayne Mann, 63, of Richmond, died Tuesday, January 30, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Stella Mann; two sons, Stephen D. Mann, Gregg S. and his wife, Terri Mann; three grandchildren, Danielle and Stephen Mann, Anne and her husband, Josh Swinson; a sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and John Matthews; a brother and sister-in-law, Rex and Hazel Mann; and his stepmother, Belva Mann. Mr. Mann was a member of West End Assembly of God Church and a Navy veteran. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Otha Goodloe (Buck) May, 85, of Dillwyn, died January 30, 2001. He is survived by two daughters, Nancy M. Melesco of Glen Allen and Judith M. Gray of Fairfax Station; and three grandchildren. Graveside funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Center Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Cumberland. Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of First Baptist Church of Dillwyn or the Buckingham County Rescue Squad.

Mary Browning Nowlan of Richmond, widow of Joseph Murray Nowlan, died Tuesday, January 30, 2001. There are no immediate survivors. Mrs. Nowlan was a member of Ginter Park Presbyterian Church. Remains rest at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 2, in Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

O'BRIEN
Edwin Churchill O'Brien Jr., project manager of construction for Virginia Commonwealth University, died January 31, 2001 in Richmond, Va. He was 67 years old. The Barry, Ill., native graduated from Barry High School, attended University of Illinois and graduated from Western Illinois University. Mr. O'Brien was an Army veteran, serving in Post War Germany. He was married to Nancy Eileen Stash O'Brien, who preceded him in death in 1997. Mr. O'Brien was a project engineer, contributing to development of the Renaissance Center in Detroit, Mich. and Epcot Center in Orlando, Fla. He is survived by three sisters, Marian Campbell of Sarasota, Fla., Martha Schantz of Amarillo, Texas and Frances McKee of Normal, Ill. A private memorial service will be held in the spring at the Barry Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to The College Scholarship Fund, Barry High School Alumni Assoc., Barry, Ill. 62312.

PAUL
Sarah Elizabeth (Lizzie) Paul, age 93, of King William, died January 31, 2001. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Remains rest at the B.W. White Funeral Home, King William C.H., where the family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. Thursday, and where service will be at 2 p.m. Friday. Interment Colosse Baptist Church Cemetery. Departed this life January 27, 2001, Mr. Bill Lorenzo Pompey of Richmond. He was preceded in death by his father, Mr. James L. Pompey. Nellie Roberts Smith of North Garden passed away on January 31, 2001. Mrs. Smith was born in Ben Venue, Va. on November 9, 1917, to the late Charles Dudley and Lucy Henry Wood of Flint Hill. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William R. Oliver, who was killed in Germany during World War II, a brother, John Wood, who was killed in the Pacific during World War II, and a brother, B.J. Wood. Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband of 54 years, Albert Oliver Smith of North Garden; a brother, Charles Wood and sister-in-law, Margaret of Blacksburg; a brother-in-law, Calvin Atwell; sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Atwell of Rochelle; a son, Charles Oliver and his wife, Pam of Boston, Va.; a daughter, Linda Litton and her husband, Clayton of Midlothian, Va.; and grandchildren, Melissa Oliver of Abingdon, James W. Oliver of Rock Hill, S.C., Sarah and Mary Philpott of Raleigh, N.C., Angela and Amanda Litton of Midlothian, Melanie Litton of Florida and Christopher Oliver of Boston, Va., as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Smith was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church in North Garden, held numerous offices in the church over the years, served on numerous committees, taught Sunday School, was an active member of the United Methodist Women. The family will receive friends at Teague Funeral Home Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, 11 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, North Garden, with Rev. Norma J. Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Mooreland Baptist Church, North Garden. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, P.O.
