Died September 17, 2000, Mrs. Lillian Tillery Cobbs of Richmond. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave. Funeral notice later.

COLLEY
Shirley M. Colley, 59, of Richmond, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 18, 2000. She is survived by her son, Richard W. Colley Sr.; her two daughters, Debbie Donathan and Dianna Lee. She is also survived by her brothers, Billy, Pete, Tony, Lewis, Joe and Ashby Mills; and by her sisters, Dorothy Nicklis, all of Richmond, and Bertha Abischer of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mrs. Colley was cared for in her final years by her devoted companion, Bill Richardson, and she was a member of the Varina Baptist Church and trusted in God throughout her final years. Her remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and where the services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday. Interment Washington Memorial Park.

DUCKENFIELD
Benjamin Henry Duckenfield Sr., age 81, of 5645 Hard Rock Place, Richmond, Va. (previously of 4 North Virginia Ave.), departed this life September 15, 2000. He is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Lucille Bradley Duckenfield; three sons, Benjamin Henry Duckenfield Jr., Melvin Eugene Duckenfield and Ronald Eric Duckenfield; two daughters, Cortina Duckenfield Orr, Regina Duckenfield Woods; ten grandchildren; one sister, Carrie D. Ampey; two brothers, Hartwell Duckenfield and Lloyd Duckenfield; two daughters-in-law, Korreain and Norma Duckenfield; two sons-in-law, Rodney Orr and David Woods; three sisters-in-law, Evelyn, Easter and Pearl Duckenfield; one brother-in-law, Luther Ampey; one uncle, King S. Miller; and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Professional services provided by Crawley Funeral Home, 3810 Meadowbridge Road. Funeral services will be held Wednesday 1 p.m. at Fifth Street Baptist Church, 2300 Third Avenue. Rev. F. Todd Gray officiating. Remains will lie in state one hour prior to service. Interment Washington Memorial Park. Family and friends, kindly assemble at the funeral home at 12 noon.

FAISON
Departed this life on September 15, 2000, Carroll L. (Booie) Faison. He is survived by five brothers, James, Charles, Leroy, Michael and Melvin Faison; three sisters, Priscilla Olds, Shirley Randolph and Joyce Camp; and a host of other relatives and friends. Services rendered by Chiles Funeral Home.

FISHER
Roxie Anne Fore Fisher, 69, of Richmond, died Saturday, September 16, 2000. She was preceded in death by her husband, Auburn T. Fisher and is survived by three sons, Michael T., A. Wayne, and Kenneth E. Fisher; a grandson, Charles Benjamin Fisher; three cousins, Frances Thompson, Annette Thompson, and Cheryl Sckinto; and several nieces and nephews. Her remains rest at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, and where services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 20. Interment Lakeview Cemetery in Blackstone, Va. on Saturday.

FRYE
Miss Gwendolyn Yvette Frye of Midlothian departed this life Friday, September 15, 2000. She is survived by her son, Nigel Frye; parents, Matthew and Vera Frye; five sisters, five brothers, four brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, among them, devoted Brenda Woodson, Carl Goode and Sandy Hughes. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 20, Guildfield Baptist Church, Powhatan Co. Rev. William Moore III, Pastor, officiating. Interment church cemetery. Remains will rest in church one hour prior to funeral services. Relatives and friends attending services assemble at the church Wednesday 1:30 p.m. Please omit food.

GOODIN
Mrs. Elaine Brett Goodin, 61, of 684 Normandy Road, Mooresville, N.C., died Sunday morning, September 17, 2000, in the Iredell Memorial Hospital from complications from lung cancer. She was born May 16, 1939 in Cooke County, Ill., and was the daughter of the late Harry Carlton "Bill" Brett and Marion Osborn Brett. She was a graduate of Statesville High School and Mitchell College and was married to Charles William Goodin Sr., who survives. Mr. and Mrs. Goodin made their home in Richmond, Va., for a number of years; and she was a member of the Three Chopt Presbyterian Church. She taught Sunday school for children for many years. While in Richmond, Mrs. Goodin used her many talents and skills as an interior decorator for Sears, and as a consultant for J.C. Penney Co. for fine jewelry. When Mr. and Mrs. Goodin returned to the Statesville area, they made their home on Lake Norman and she became a preschool teacher at Trinity Episcopal Church. She loved children and enjoyed teaching them. She was a member of the Evergreen Garden Club. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Charles (Chad) W. Goodin Jr. and his wife, Barbara Phillips Goodin of Mooresville; two daughters, Dawn Goodin Glasco and her husband, Jeffrey Clyde Glasco Sr., Richmond, Va., and Janet Goodin Ziegler and her husband, Carl Malcolm Ziegler, Knightdale, N.C.; a sister, Virginia Brett Garland of Statesville; and a brother, Bill Brett Jr. of Westport, Conn. Seven grandchildren also survive, Jeffrey (Judd) Clyde Glasco Jr. and Joshua Charles Glasco, both of Richmond, Va., Scott William Ziegler, Brian Matthew Ziegler and Lindsey Marie Ziegler, all of Knightdale, N.C., and Madison Brett Goodin and MacKenzie Lynn Goodin, Mooresville, N.C. An infant son, Stephen Goodin, preceded her in death. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Broad Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert W. Rollins Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. Her four grandsons along with Doug Garland and Mike Billings will serve as active pallbearers. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, 1740 Broadway, New York, N.Y. 10019. Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family of Mrs. Goodin.

GUTHRIE
James Thomas Guthrie, age 85, of Shacklefords, died on Sunday, September 17, 2000. He retired from Chesapeake Corporation after 40 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Eva C. Guthrie; two daughters and their husbands, Mildred and Dennis Hogge of Achilles, Joyce and Donnie Schultz of Troy, Ohio; a son and his wife, Paul and Bessie Guthrie of Shacklefords; a brother, Cornelius Guthrie of Newport News; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Vincent Funeral Home, West Point. Burial will be in New Hope Memorial Church Cemetery, King and Queen. Family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to West Point Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad Inc., Box X, West Point, Va. 23181 or National Parkinson Foundation, P.O. Box 450, Huntingdon, Pa. 19006.

HENNE
Melissa Hall Henne, 46, of Richmond, Va., passed on to her next life on September 18, 2000 after a long illness. She is survived by her children, Kyle and Hillary; her sister, Amanda; her father, William D.; and her husband, best friend and biggest fan, Brian. She will be mourned by her many friends and acquaintances that were touched by caring soul or inspired by her courage. We will miss her but she will remain in our hearts forever. Please join us for a celebration of her life at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd. on Thursday, September 21. Memorial service at 2 p.m. with visitation from 2:30 to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or Bon Secours Hospice.

HINES
Captain Bret Olin Hines, 27, formerly of Richmond, based at Marine Corps Air Station in Miramar, Calif., died Monday, September 11, 2000. He was the son of Horace and Elizabeth Hines. He is survived by one brother, Keith Louis Hines and wife, Amy of Holland, Mass.; and one sister, Elizabeth Meade Hines of Richmond. Bret graduated from Manchester High School with honors and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the Commerce School at the University of Virginia. Captain Hines was a pilot of the F/A-18D Hornet jet fighter and died as a result of a collision between two jet fighters during a training session in Yuma, Ariz. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Providence United Methodist Church on September 22, 2000 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions should be sent to the Providence Methodist Church Youth Fellowship Fund or the S.P.C.A.

HOLMES
Roger R. Holmes, 60, of Midlothian, retired IBM manager, and widower of Judith M. Holmes, passed away September 15, 2000. He is survived by two sons, David R. Holmes and his wife, Susan of Rice Lake, Wis., and Mark R. Holmes and his wife, Kathleen of Midlothian; his parents, Robert W. and Mildred F. Holmes of Largo, Fla.; also four grandchildren, Kendal, Deven, Matthew and Christopher. The family will receive friends Tuesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd., where services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m. Graveside services will be held in Lancaster Cemetery, Lancaster, Calif. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.

JACOB
Marcella Lecky Bigger Jacob, 79, of Richmond, Va. died Sunday, September 17, 2000. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Mark I. Jacob Jr.; a sister, Mrs. Edward Lewis of Wilmington, Del.; a daughter, Susan J. Harris and her husband, The Rev. Lawrence R. Harris Jr. of Upper Marlboro, Md.; a son, Robert W. "Bo" Jacob and his wife, Willa S. Jacob of Richmond, Va.; three grandchildren, L. Reed Harris III, Joanna C. Jacob and Cary E. Jacob; and numerous nieces. Mrs. Jacob was a life long member of the Episcopal Church, most recently at All Saints Church, Richmond, Va., where she was active in the Episcopal Church Women and the Guild of the Christ Child. While residing in Maryland, she attended St. John’s Church, Ellicott City, where she was a member of the Vestry. She was treasurer of the United Thank Offering of the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland, president of the Virginia Women of Maryland and president of the Catonsville Inner Wheel of Rotary International. The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 19, 2000 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church, where services will be held Wednesday, September 20, 2000 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to All Saints Episcopal Church, 8787 River Road, Richmond, Va. 23229, or the Hospice of Central Virginia, 5540 Falmouth Street, Suite 307, Richmond, Va. 23230. The West Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, Glen Allen, Va., is in charge of arrangements.

KIRBY
Woodroe Wilson Kirby, 83, passed away September 17, 2000. He is survived by his former wife, Mildred P. Kirby-Carter; three sons, James Wilson, Douglas Ray and Edward Lee Kirby, all of Ashland and Hanover; two daughters-in-law, Mary E. Kirby and Jackie L. Kirby; a brother, I.D. Kirby of Mechanicsville; 11 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Mr. Kirby was a veteran of World War II. May his soul rest in peace. The family will receive friends 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in Reid Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday. Interment Signal Hill Memorial Park.

KISH
Mary Mayo Kish, 83, of Richmond, passed away September 18, 2000. She is survived by two daughters, Valerie Mayo Kish of Rockville, Va., and Theresa Alice Hardison of St. James City, Fla.; a sister, Betty Louise Melvin; four grandchildren, Brian, Scott, Jeffrey and Mark Hardison. Burial will take place in Paintsville, Ky. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Central Virginia.

KOPACZ
John Edward Kopacz, age 39, formerly of Norfolk, Va., died Wednesday, September 13, 2000, while working in Florida. He is survived by his parents, Helene M. and Joseph M. Kopacz Sr.; one sister, Elaine Mescan; one brother, Joseph M. Kopacz Jr.; one nephew, David Harrison; two nieces, Ali and Morgan, all of Richmond; aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, among them one loving, Judy Lewallen and family of Thomasville, N.C. A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 9505 Gayton Rd. Interment of cremains in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

LANE
Howard T. "Night Train" Lane, 54, of Powhatan and Whitestone, Va., passed away Saturday, September 16, 2000. He was preceded in death by his parents, Madeline and Buck Lane. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Lane; sons, Alan and Chris Lane; daughter, Shawn Braithwaite; and son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Melody Braithwaite; brother, Charlie Lane; three sisters, JoAnne Lee, Jennie Farrar and Katie Harris; one granddaughter, Shannon Lane. Mr. Lane was a member of the Iron Workers Union #28 for 18 years. Howard was the owner of United Erectors, Inc. He was a member of the Manchester Moose Lodge and the Stonehenge Country Club. Howard was a former football and baseball coach for Gordon and Chaulkey Little League. He was an avid golfer and fisherman. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Manchester Moose Lodge Trade Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
