Gladys M. Whitlow
Gladys Marie Whitlow, 73, of 4541 Webster Road, Glade Hill, died Saturday, June 12, 2004, at Blue Ridge Rehab.
Arrangements will be announced by Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home.

Johnnie H. Alderman
The funeral for Johnnie Herman Alderman, 96, of Meadows of Dan, who died June 14, 2004, was held Thursday at Tory Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Clarence Marshall officiating. Burial was in Maple Shade Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Shawn Ayers, Bruce Nester, J.L. Cox, Sidney Farmer, Gary Alderman and Chris Cox.
Moody Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

James O. Ashworth
The funeral for James O. Ashworth, 89, of 1671 Stella Road, Critz, who died June 12, 2004, was held Thursday at Orchard Drive Baptist Church with the Revs. Lewis Hall and Michael Harrison officiating. Burial was in Stella Christian Church cemetery.
Pallbearers were James Nester, Lloyd Turner, Howard Lewis, Wayne Clark, Butch Barbour and Junior Cassady.
Howell Funeral Home in Stuart handled arrangements.

George O. Cassell
George O. Cassell, 77, of Stones Dairy Road, Bassett, died Thursday, June 17, 2004, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Collins Funeral Services in Bassett.

James D. Edwards
James D. Edwards, of 3630 Golf Course Road, Critz, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at R.J. Reynolds Patrick Memorial Hospital in Stuart.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Howell Funeral Home, Stuart.

Robert M. Elder
Robert M. Elder, 69, formerly of Martinsville, died Sunday, June 13, 2004, at Forsyth Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, N.C.
A native of Lynchburg, he was born May 15, 1935, to Bernard L. Elder and Arlene Bradmer Elder, both deceased. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy McCauley.
He was a retired truck driver for Southland Transportation.
Surviving are one son, Robert Kurt Elder of San Jose, Calif.; one brother, Karn Elder of Reedville; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Loman officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
Visitation will be at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home from 7-8:30 p.m. today.

Vann E. Freeman
Vann Eleanor Freeman of Kings Grant Retirement Community, Martinsville, died Thursday, June 17, 2004, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
McKee-Stone Funeral Services will announce arrangements.

Myrtle W. Galloway
Myrtle Marie Waller Galloway, 77, of 923 Bob Gregory St., Martinsville, died Monday, June 14, 2004, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
She was born Nov. 4, 1926, in Eckman, W.Va., to Wyatt Waller and Mary Ella Waller, both deceased. She also was preceded in death by her husband, George Albert Galloway; a sister, Bertha Waller Pipkins; and four brothers, Sandy Waller, John C. Waller, Charles Waller and Eugene Waller.
She had been a member of Mount Olivet Apostolic Church for 40 years.
Surviving are four daughters, Juanita M. Law, Carlon G. Martin, Arabella G. Flood and Mary D. McEnheimer, all of Martinsville; six sons, Curtis D. Galloway, George A. Galloway, Larry D. Galloway, Wayne D. Galloway, Thomas A. Galloway and Jeffery L. Galloway, all of Martinsville; three additional children, Alfonso G. Galloway of Martinsville, Tremayne O. Waller of Blacksburg and Cassandra Waller of Lynchburg; 31 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and five stepgrandsons.
The funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Mount Olivet Apostolic Church with Bishop Robert L. Kellam officiating. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the church for a half hour before the funeral Sunday and other times at the home.
Arrangements are by Stanfield-Miller Funeral Home.

Virginia P. Hall
Virginia Price Hall, 96, of 925 Mulberry Road, Martinsville, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at her home.
She was born in Luray on March 16, 1908, to Julian Shepard Price and Olive Rose Hudson Price. She was the widow of Dr. Charles A. Hall Jr.
She graduated from Hollins College and retired as a teacher with the Martinsville City School system. A member of the First Baptist Church of Martinsville, she had taught Sunday school, served as president of the WomenÕs Missionary Union and was a member of the Placide Mitchell Sunday school class.
She was an honorary life member of the Wednesday Book Club, past regent of the Patrick Henry Daughters of the American Revolution chapter and an honorary life member of the Forest Park Country Club Ladies Golf Association.
Surviving are two daughters, Lola Hall McBride of Harrisonburg and Sallie Sue Hall Seabury of Fort Myers Beach, Fla.; a sister, Mary Jane Price Fisher of Stanley; a brother, Charles H. Price of Stanley; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Martinsville with the Rev. John Fulcher officiating.
The family will recieve friends at the church for one hour before the service Saturday, and other times at the home.
Burial will take place Saturday at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Madison, following a 3:30 p.m. graveside service conducted by Dr. Tom Reynolds.
Memorials may be made to: Sue McCabe Memorial Library Fund, FBC, 23 Starling Ave., Martinsville, Va. 24112, or a charity of the donor's choice.
Arrangements are by McKee-Stone Funeral Services.

William H. Matthews
William Howard Matthews, 89, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at the Blue Ridge Rehab Center, where he was a resident.
He was born in Spencer on May 13, 1915, to Samuel Matthews and Mary Thomas Matthews, both deceased. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Smith Matthews; and a son, Alveno Matthews.
He retired from Nationwide Homes, where he worked for 10 years, and was a member of Antioch Christian Church and the CMF.
Surviving are two daughters, Doretha Matthews of Petersburg and Faye Matthews of Martinsville; four sons, Tyrone Matthews and McKenzie Matthews, both of Spencer, Vaughn Matthews of Aviana, Italy, and Leon Matthews of Axton; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Carver Memorial Gardens.
No wake will be held. Friends will be received at the home of Faye Matthews, 711th Fourth St., Martinsville.
Hines Funeral Services is handling arrangements.
