Mr. Richard Thomas Lucy
August 2, 1933 - April 19, 2010
Mr. Richard Thomas Lucy, age 76, formerly of Dolphin, died Monday April 19, 2010 in Mecklenburg House, South Hill. He was a retired farmer. Mr. Lucy is survived by his wife of 49 years Edna Frances Lucy, a daughter Belinda Lucy Moseley and companion Wayne Logan of Lawrenceville, three granddaughters, among them are Crystal Ellis and Tammy Lucy and six great grandchildren.
A graveside funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 P.M. in Concord Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Rawlings, Va. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory, South Hill. The family suggest memorial contributions be made to Community Memorial Healthcenter’s Dialysis Unit, P. O. Box 90, South Hill, Va. 23970 or to P. O. Box 422, South Hill, VA. 23970 in Mr. Lucy’s name.

Mrs. Virginia Carter Thompson
March 3, 1935 - April 24, 2010
Mrs. Virginia Carter Thompson, age 75 of La Crosse, died Saturday, April 24, 2010. She was a retired employee of the former Wolfe’s Sales and Service in South Hill. She was the widow of Daniel Frank Thompson and was predeceased by a son Harper Edmonds. She is survived by two daughters Irene Knowles of Baldwyn, Miss. and Faye Moore of Goldsboro, NC; two sons Earle Edmonds of Henderson, NC and Gerald Edmonds of La Crosse; two sisters Myrtle Daniel of Red Oak and Betty Currin of South Hill; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P. M. Wednesday at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory with interment in Oakwood Cemetery, South Hill. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:00 to 8:30 P. M. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Elaine Hancock Howbert
May 3, 1933 - June 10, 2009
Mrs. Elaine Hancock Howbert, age 76 of South Hill, died Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at her residence. She was born in Laurel Fork, VA to Curtis M. and Annie H. Hancock and was a retired nurse. She is survived by her husband Jack M. Howbert; two daughters Katrina J. Howbert of Roanoke and Rebecca Whitfield of Wendell, NC; two sons Jack H. Howbert of Portsmouth, Ohio and Curtis M. Howbert of Lebanon, Ohio; three sisters Regena Hancock and Donna Hancock both of South Hill and Gayle Chapman of Livermore, Calif.; three brothers Rex Hancock of Hillsville, Daryl Hancock of Gerrardston, W.Va. And Dan Hancock of Bullock, NC; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A. M. Saturday at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory with interment in Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7:00 to 8:30 P. M. Memorial contributions may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church Building Fund 1212 Chaulk Level Road, South Hill, VA 23970 or Community Memorial Hospice, P. O. Box 90, South Hill.

Rachel Dale Wallace
November 10, 1938 - March 9, 2010
Mrs. Rachel Dale Wallace, age 71, of South Hill, died Tuesday, March 9, 2010 in Britthaven Nursing Home of Henderson. She was a former Restaurant Hostess and the widow of Charles Richard Wallace.
Mrs. Wallace is survived by her son Jerry W. Allgood and his companion Wilma Bean of Norlina, NC. , two nieces Charlene Duncan of Spartanburg, SC and Leah Ann Woodie of Woodruff, SC. Two step-daughters Susan Tweetie of Williamsburg and Lynetta Wapner of northern VA. , two great nieces and one great nephew.
A funeral service will be conducted Friday at 7:00 P.M. in Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home with a visitation to follow the service. A committal service will be conducted Tuesday, March 16th in Quantico National Cemetery in Quantico, Va. at 1:00 P.M.

Mr. Dewey Robert Hall
November 22, 1938 - March 10, 2010
Mr. Dewey Robert Hall , age 71, of La Crosse went to be with the Lord Wednesday, March 10, 2010 . He was a former employee of the Norfolk, Franklin and Danville Railroad. Dewey is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Elaine Gallion Hall , his daughters Pamela Hightower and husband Kent of La Crosse, Teressa Adams and husband David of Chatham and Shannon Farmer and husband Dan of Danville, his son Jeffrey Hall of La Crosse and his special friend Carolyn Elmore, a sister Carolyn Wagoner and husband Lane of South Hill , seven grandchildren Brittany Edmonds and husband Henry , Chelsea and Kalyn Adams , Savannah, Cody and Jacob Hall and their mother Regina Hall and Eli Farmer and a step-granddaughter Emily Hightower and special pal Austin Elmore. He was predeceased by a brother Shirl Hall and sister Malda Satterwhite. A funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 P.M. in Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home with interment in Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Rehoboth United Methodist Church P.O. Box 256, La Crosse, Va. 23950 or CMH Community Hospice, P. O. Box 90, South Hill, Va. 23970.

Mrs. LeNeve Hodges Adams
August 13, 1931 - April 22, 2010
LeNeve Hodges Adams, age 78, of Raleigh, NC and formerly of South Hill, died Thursday, April 22, 2010 in a Durham hospital. She was a retired real estate agent with Merril Lynch and York Properties. She was the daughter of the late Yewell Melvin Hodges, a former South Hill mayor and Virginia State Senator and Elllis Foster Hodges and was predeceased by a brother Melvin Hodges. She is survived by her daughter Ann A. Borden and husband William of Raleigh; two sons and their wives Jefferson H. Adams and Dorota of Raleigh and Poznan, Poland, and Spencer A. Adams and Dennise of Chapel Hill; five grandchildren Stefan and Eva Gruber, Caroline and James Borden and Morgan Adams; two sisters Jacqueline Walker of Lawrenceville, GA and Betsy Sternman of Washington, D.C. and her brother Falcon Hodges of South Hill. A funeral service will be conducted Monday in Raleigh with interment in Oakwood Cemetery, South Hill Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at 2:00 P. M. Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of local arrangements.

Mr. John Robert Scheuerman
February 25, 1954 - March 24, 2010
John R. Scheuerman, age 56, a resident of St. Germain and formerly of Waukegan, IL, died on Wednesday March 24, 2010 at his home. He was born on February 25, 1954 in Chicago, IL to Joseph F. Scheuerman and Lenore Bishop Scheuerman. John lived a very solitary life. He loved living in the St. Germain, WI area and the outdoor activities it provided, especially hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed reading historical books. John was a member of Mensa International. He was preceded in death by his mother: Lenore Bishop Scheuerman and his cousin: Margaret Martin. He is survived by his father: Joseph Scheuerman of Sarasota, FL; sisters: Mary de Chesnay of Atlanta, GA and Ruth Seeman of Sarasota, FL; nephew: Matthew Seeman of Sarasota, FL; cousin Mary Martin of Joliett, IL; special friend: Patsy St. Claire of St. Germain, WI; other family; and friends. A celebration of life service with inurnment will be conducted 2:00 P.M., Monday, May 3, 2010 at the graveside in Crestview Memorial Park. Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory, South Hill, VA. is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Walter Willard "Tootsie" Morris
May 18, 1934 - April 28, 2010
Mr. Walter Willard “Tootsie” Morris, age 75 of South Hill, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010 in Community Memorial Healthcenter. He retired as Head Mechanic for the Town of South Hill and was an Army veteran. He was the widower of Mary Simmons Morris and is survived by his daughter Vicky Cleaton of South Hill; two sons Walter W. “Tootie” Morris, Jr. of Chesterfield and Franklin Lynn Morris of South Hill; four sisters Rachel Allgood of Richmond, Betty Waldrep of Boydton, Freda Robinson of South Hill and Barbara Moody of La Crosse; four brothers Gene Morris and Francis “Boy” Morris both of South Hill, Alvie Morris of Sandston and Drewry Stuart Morris of La Crosse; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A. M. Saturday at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory with interment in La Crosse Cemetery with American Legion military Honors. The family will receive friends Friday from 7:00 to 8:30 P. M. at the funeral home.

Katherine Vargo Thompson
December 18, 1922 - April 29, 2010
Mrs. Katherine Vargo Thompson, 87, of Chase City died April 29, 2010 in Meadowview Terrace, Clarksville. She was a homemaker and the widow of Arthur L. Thompson. Mrs. Thompson is survived by two daughters Joyce Thompson Seay and husband Melvin of Lawerenceville and Frances Tuck and husband Emmett of Chase City, a son Robert L. Thompson and wife Ruth Ann also of Chase City , a sister Elizabeth Brown of Richmond, eight grandchildren, thirteen grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. She was also predeceased by a son Claude W. Thompson. A funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 P.M. in Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home with interment in Crestview Memorial Park. Barbara Neal Crutchfield
May 28, 1930 - April 29, 2010
Mrs. Barbara Neal Crutchfield, 79 of La Crosse, died April 29, 2010 in Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Blackstone. She was the retired personnel manager for the former La Crosse Sportswear and the widow of Earl M. Crutchfield. Barbara is survived by her daughter Mary Parker Chafin and husband Rodney of Richmond, her brother W. Parker Neal of South Hill and two grandchildren Matthew Chafin and wife Kathy of Midlothian and Ryan Crutchfield and wife Amber of Richmond. She was predeceased by her son Neal M. Crutchfield.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. in Sardis United Methodist Church, Marengo, Va. The family suggest memorial contributions to Sardis United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Rita Southerland, P. O. Barbara Morris Moody of La Crosse, died Friday April 30, 2010 at her residence. She was a Postmaster Relief for the United States Postal Service. She is survived by her husband of 45 years Kenneth J. “Cut” Moody, a daughter Jennifer M. Redman and husband Christopher of
La Crosse, two sons Kenneth J. Moody, Jr. and wife Meagan also of
La Crosse and Jason Moody and his wife Crystal of Bracey, three sisters Rachel Allgood of Richmond, Betty Waldrep of Boydton and Freda Robinson of La Crosse, four brothers Gene and Francis “Boy” Morris both of South Hill, Alvie Morris of Sandston and Drewry Stuart Morris of La Crosse and six grandchildren.

Mr. Charles Edward Bohannon, 62, of White Plains, died Saturday, May 1, 2010.
He was a foreman with Lewis Tree Service of Chase City and Rochester, NY. and the owner/operator of Bohannon Tree Service.
He is survived by his wife Brenda King Bohannon, three sons John Bohannon of Victoria, Charles E. Bohannon, Jr. of Jarrett and Travis Bohannon of Kingston, OK., a daughter Tricia Jo Bohannon Brown of Leonard, TX., a step-son Troy Clarke of Richmond, four sisters Dallas Abernathy, Nellie Hazelwood and Betty King all of Kenbridge and Lillian Osborne of Wylliesburg, two brothers Andrew H. “BO” Bohannon of Matoca and Harry Bohannon of Kenbridge and nine grandchildren.
