Harold Andrew Rice

Harold Andrew Rice of Sterling died June 26 of coronary artery disease at Loudoun Hospital Center.

He was born April 20, 1929 in South Fork, Pa. A driver for Loudoun Auto Parts, he was a charter member of the Sterling Jaycees and a member of the Sterling United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene Rice of Sterling, his children, Melanie Sisson of Sterling and Vanessa Rokas of Melbourne, Australia; one brother, James Rice of Salix, Pa.; four sisters, Olive Nanna of Johnstown, Pa., Marlene Saminski of Sidmen, Pa., Mary June Watson of Salix, Pa., and Connie Nanna of South Fork, Pa.; and four grandchildren, Valerie, Bradley, Hillary and Andrew. Services were held June 28 at Adams- Green Funeral Home in Herndon, with interment at Sterling Cemetery. Memorials in his name may be made to Sterling United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 304 Church Road, Sterling, Va. 20164.

Heather Marriott Watson

Heather Allison Marriott Watson, 26, of Sterling died June 29 at Washington Hospital Center.

The daughter of Ramona Marriott of Sterling, she is also survived by two brothers, Michael and William Barnett of Sterling; her grandfather, John Graham of York Springs, Pa.; and the Breeze family of Centreville and the Mazaris family of Potomac Falls. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 6 at Adams- Green Funeral Home in Herndon. Memorials in her name may be made to MADD, Northern Virginia Chapter, P.O. Box 1066, Fairfax, Va. 22030

Timothy M. (Tim) McKim

Timothy M. (Tim) McKim, 56, died July 8 at his home in Sterling.

He was born Nov. 26, 1945 in Philadelphia.

Survivors includes his wife, Cindy Carlson McKim of Sterling; his children, Danny and Katherine McKim and Michelle McKim Schlater of Jefferson, Md.; his mother, Helen F. McKim of Pennsauken, N.J.; two brothers, Joseph and Brian McKim; and a sister, Tina D Acunto. He was also the father of the late Scott McKim.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, July 12 at St. Joseph s Catholic Church in Herndon. Memorials may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 699, Vienna, Va. 22180 or Hospice of Northern Virginia, 9300 Lee Highway, Suite 500, Fairfax, Va. 22031. Arrangements are by Adams- Green Funeral Home of Herndon.

Emmett E. Moore

Emmett E. Moore died June 29 at his home in Sterling.

Husband of Joyce J. Moore, he is survived by his children, Michael E. Moore of Huntington Beach, Ca; Karen K. Mackert of Washington, D.C.; and Sheeree S. Gilligan and David D. Moore, both of Ashburn; siblings Marion L. Sessoms of Durham, N.C. and Evelyn Witkowski of Atlanta, Ga.; and six grandchildren.

A memorial service was held July 2 at Adams- Green Funeral Home in Herndon, with interment at Sterling Cemetery.

James (Jim) Scambos

James (Jim) Scambos, 44, of Ashburn died Saturday, July 6.

He was born Oct. 7, 1957 in Columbus, Ohio, and was a pilot with United Airlines.

Survivors include his wife, Patti; children Paul, Stephanie and Cindy; his mother, Nikki Adams; his father, Ernest Scambos; his step-mother, Marilyn; two brothers, Ted and Jordan; and a sister, JoAnn.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 11 at Adams- Green Funeral Home in Herndon. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at St. Theresa s Catholic Church in Ashburn at 11 a.m. Friday, July 12. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Childrens Education Trust Fund.

Robert Joseph Belka

Robert Joseph Belka of Sterling died July 12 at Loudoun Hospital Center.

He was born April 18, 1937 in Jersey City, N.J.

Survivors include his wife, Paulajean Jones Belka of Sterling; his children, Angela Castaldy of Warrenton, Melissa Wiginton of Front Royal, and Dawn Tuzo of Haymarket; and four grandchildren, Olivia Castaldy, Kierstin Wiginton, and Jessica and Jenna Tuzo.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 21 at Adams- Green Funeral Home in Herndon. Memorials may be made in his name to H.A.R.T. Rescue, P.O. Box 7261, Fairfax Station, Va. 22039.

Nancy Briley-Farmer

Nancy Briley-Farmer of Sterling died July 13 at Cameron Glen Care Center.

She was born April 21, 1937 in Washington, D.C. She worked as an appointments clerk for Kaiser Permanente.

Survivors include her husband, Howard B. Farmer of Sterling; her children, Deborah Jones and Walter Briley of Raleight, N.C., and George Wynkoop, Donna Wynkoop and Glenn Wyncoop, all of Sterling; one brother, Malcolm Byrd of Springfield; and 14 grandchildren.

Services were held July 16 at Adams- Green Funeral Home in Herndon, with interment at Stonewall Memory Gardens in Manassas. Memorials may be made in her name to the American Diabetes Association.

Russell E. (Jack) LaMay

Russell Earl (Jack) LaMay died of cancer July 14 at his home in Sterling.

He was born Nov. 16, 1921 in Washington, D.C. and had worked as a cable splicer for PEPCO.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita LaMay of Sterling; children Jack LaMay and his wife Bonnie of Great Falls, and Debbie Hall and her husband Bill Hall of Arlington; and three grandchildren, Wes, Alexandria and Ian.

Funeral services were scheduled for 11 a.m. July 17 at Adams- Green Funeral Home, with interment at Chesnut Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made in his name to Hospice of Northern Virginia, 9300 Lee Highway, Fifth Floor, Fairfax Va. 22031-1207.

Leo (Nick) Nicodemus

Leo (Nick) Nicodemus of Sterling died of congestive heart failure July 10 at his home.

He was born July 8, 1915 in Chouteau, Ok., and was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa M. Nicodemus.

Survivors include his daughter, Nicky Webley of Herndon and her husband Birt; two sisters, Rudy Shaffer of Tulsa, Ok. and Ella Mae Robbins of Pryor, Ok; and one grandchild, Bryce Webley of Herndon.

Services were held July 13 at Adams- Green Funeral Home, with interment at National Memorial Park. Memorials in his name may be made to Hospice of Northern Virginia, Loudoun County Area, 9300 Lee Highway, Fifth Floor, Fairfax, Va. 22031-1207.

Gilbert Blaine Adkission

Note: Gilbert Blaine Atkisson died June 27. Family members including some in the Sterling area later found that he had left the following information, and requested that it be printed as he wrote it.

Gilbert Blaine Adkission. Born in Summersville, Mo., 17 Aug. 1915. Enlisted U.S. Navy 1934. Served aboard U.S.S. South Dakota in WWII from 1941 to 1944. Shore duty assignments: Mare Island, Calif., Seattle, Wash., Kodiak, Alaska, Memphis, Tenn., Great Lakes, Ill, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Married Ana Maria Garcia on Sept. 20, 1951. Retired from Navy in 1954 as Chief Musician. Served in various Civil Service positions: Naval Air Station, Gitmo Bay, Cuba. U.S.N. Hospital (Budget Officer) Gitmo Bay, Cuba, U.S.N. Hospital (Naval Academy Annapolis, Md.), U.S. Navy Yard, Wash. D.C., Midshipman Services Division, Anapolis, Md. Attained grade of GS-11 and retired from Civil Service Dec. 1980 with 46 years of Federal service.

He is survived by his wife Ana Maria, his daughter Sabrina Atkisson-Wiles, two granddaughters-Sasha and Shimene Wiles and great-grandson Aston Blaine Wiles. Also, Marlene Nancy, Sherry and Gilbert Blaine Atkisson Jr. from a former marriage. Eleven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
