Joan G. Okyen

Joan G. Okyen, 69, of Alexandria died Sept. 28.

Survivors include her husband, Col. Lou Okyen (USA Ret.); her children, Debbie Meadows (Phil); Marc Okyen (Jean) and Kathy Chrisman (Jim); and grandchildren Ashley and Brooke Chrisman, Michael and Chris Okyen and Michelle Meadows.

Friends may call at DeMaine Funeral Home Springfield-Annandale Chapel at Backlick and Edsall Roads in Springfield from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at which time services will be held. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowrers, memorials may be made to the ALS Association, National Capital Area Chapter, Administrative Office, 615 S. Frederick Ave., Suite 308, Gaithersburg, Md. 20877.

Otis Oslige Schaeffer

Otis Oslige Schaeffer of Sterling died Sept. 14 at his home.

He was born July 27, 1929 in Washington, D.C. to the late Otis S. and Minnie Frye Schaeffer.

Survivors include his wife, Jone Schaeffer of Sterling; two sons, John Schaeffer of Austin, Texas and Mark Schaeffer of Sterling; one granddaughter, Angel Schaeffer; one brother, Sidney Schaeffer of Bridgeport, Al.; and one sister, Hilda Batts of Pennsylvania.

Services were held Sept. 27 at Adams- Green Funeral Home in Herndon, with interment scheduled for West Union, Iowa at a later date. Memorials may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, 124 Park St., Vienna, Va. 22182.

Kimberly K. Parnell

Kimberly Kristine Parnell, 44, of Potomac Falls died Oct. 18 at INOVA Fair Oaks Hospital.

She was born July 3, 1959 in Amherst, Ohio, the daughter of E.M. and Janet Kidder King of Somerset, Ky. She was a gradaute of MLS High School in Amherst and Ohio State University.

Survivors include her husband, Steven J. Parnell; two chilren, Kristen M. Parnell and Dylan V. Parnell; two sisters, Julie Parobek of Bay Village, Ohio and Jeana Stanley of Somerset, Ky.; two brothers, MIchael King of Cincinnati, Ohio and Bruce King of Michigan; nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22 at Adams- Green Funeral Home in Herndon. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23 at Galilee United Methodist Church at Routes 7 and 28 in Sterling, with the Rev. Wayne Sneed officiating. Interment will follow at Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Herndon. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, National Capital Chapter, 2021 K. St., N.W., Suite 715, Washigton, D.C. 20006-1035.

Jason Allbright

Jason Matthew-Austin Allbright, 31, of Sterling died Oct 21 following an accident.

He was born Jan. 3, 1972 in New Hartford, N.Y. He graduated from Ilion High School in Illion, N.Y. in 1990 and received a full academic scholarship to Bry-ant and Stratton Business College in Albany, N.Y. He received two Associate Degrees.

A resident of Virginia since 1993, he established the Handy Neighbor Contracting Company in Sterling in 2001.

Survivors include his wife, Leah Phillips Allbright; his children, Hayley Elizabeth Allbright, Jacob Ethan Allbright and Zachary Dean Allbright; his parents, James R. and Pamela Belfield Allbright of Albany, N.Y.; two brothers, Andrew James Allbright and Jared Adam Allbright, both of Manassas; and his grandparents, M. Clayton Allbright of Utica, N.Y. and Justus and Lillian Belfield of Brick, N.J.

Funeral services were held Oct. 25 at Galilee United Methodist Church, with interment at Greenlawn Cemetery in New Hartford, N.Y. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Galilee United Methodist Church. Arrangements were by Adams- Green Funeral Home of Herndon.

Julius O. (Sam) Lynch

Julius O. (Sam) Lynch Jr., 63, of Martinsburg, W.Va., formerly and Herndon, died Nov. 2 at his home.

He was born July 20, 1940 in Charleston, S.C. to the late Julius O. and Helen Cummings Lynch. He was the husband of the late Cheryl Lynch.

Survivors include his children, Dannie Lynch of Atlanta, Ga., Julius O. Lynch III of Leesburg, Helen (Darlene) Lynch-Boyce of Brunswick, Md., Christy Brennaman of Inwood, W.Va. and Bruce Lynch of Charleston, S.C.; one brother, Pickney Lynch of Herndon, two sisters, Mildred Angle of Martinsburg, W.Va. and Helen Ferris of Winchester; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 10-a.m.-11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 6 at Adams- Green Funeral Home in Herndon, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Herndon.

Jane M. Karcher

Jane M. Karcher of Falcons Landing died Nov. 16.

She was the wife of Capt. Daniel M. Karcher (USN Ret.).

Jane Moore was born in Winsted, Conn. on March 29, 1920 and moved to Oshkosh, Wis. in 1935. She graduated from what is now the University of Wisconsin-Oskosh in 1942 with a degree in Education. She worked in New York City from 1942 to 1945 doing radio publicity for the March of Dimes.

Jane and Dan Karcher married in 1945 and shared 30 years of Navy life, moving frequently throughout the United States and Europe. They lived in France and Italy for almost five years during a tour of duty in those countries. An active Navy wife, she served as President of the Annapolis Navy Wives Club, and was an accomplished couturiere, actress and artist. She also loved bridge, gardening, and bowling.

After arriving at Falcons Landing in August 1996 she created several in-house TV programs for Falcons Landing, including “Chatting with Jane.”

Survivors include her husband; her children, Daniel M. Karcher V., Elizabeth K. Cresap, and Meredith K. Hilt; and two granddaughters, Sarah and Emily Karcher.

A Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 10 at Falcons Landing, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Falcons Landing Benevolent Fund; 20522 Falcons Landing Circle, Sterling, VA 20165.

Harry J. Brown

Harry J. Brown, a former Loudoun County School Board member who represented the Catoctin District from November 1993 to December 31, 1999, died suddenly at his home in Pennsylvania on Friday, Dec. 26.

He had just celebrated his 67th birthday.

A visitation was held on Tuesday.cDec, 30 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Pocono Pines, Pa. A Mass of Christian Burial followed.

According to an announcement from Loudoun County Public Schools, cards of condolence may be sent to Jane Brown, 407 Fieldstone Drive, Venice, FL 34292.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Lake Pastoral Fund (for the poor of the area) P.O. Box 0 Pocono Pines, Pa. 18350.

Robin Boyle Storey

Robin Boyle Storey. a longtime resident of Washington, D.C., died Dec. 27 at her home.

She was born March 24, 1913 in Hagerstown, Md., the daughter of Martin and Katherine (Kitty) Boyle. She graduated from Western High School in Washington and attended George Washington University where she met her future husband, the late Arthur Storey. They were married Aug. 31, 1938 and spent most of their lives in American University Park in the District of Columbia. She was a member and greeter at St. Columba’s Episcopal Church in Northwest Washington.

Survivors include three sons, Arthur Bainbridge Storey of Albany, N.Y., Richard Boyle Storey of Potomac Falls, Va. and Thomas Margin Storey of Manassas as well as four granddaughters, one grandson, two step-granddaughters, a great-grandchild and a great-step-grandchild.

Services were held Dec. 30 at St. Columba’s Episcopal Church, followed by a reception honoring her life at the home of Richard and Carol Storey in Potomac Falls. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Columba’s Church. Arrangements were by Loudoun Funeral Chapel of Leesburg.

John O. Bessor

John O. Bessor, 81, of Sterling, a former member of the White House News Photographers Association, died May 19 in Sterling.

Born in Pennsylvania, he was World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was a longtime cameraman for CBS News, an avid still photographer and exhibited and judged in photo contests. After his retirement he became a volunteer docent at Colvin Run Mill Park and the National Archives. He was a former member of St. Patrick's Episcopal Church in Falls Church and recently became a member of St. David's Episcopal Church in Ashburn, where he was also a lay reader.

Survivors include his wife, Doris H. Bessor of Sterling; three daughters, Judith Bessor of Newport News, Bonnie Bessor of Baltimore and Penelope Bessor of Ft. Collins, Colorado; two grandsons, Kevin and Christopher Healey; and one great-grandson, Benjamin John Healey. He was the father of the late Capt. Bruce Carlton Bessor and was also preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie Allen Bessor.

Funeral services were scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 22 at St. David's Episcopal Church, the Rev. Stephen McWhorter officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to St. David's or St. Patrick's Episcopal Church, Hospice of Northern Virginia, American Parkinson's Disease Association, or charity of choice. Arrangements are by Colonial Funeral Home of Leesburg.

Jill Simpson-Davis

A memorial fund has been established in the honor of Jill Simpson-Davis, who was killed in an automobile accident April 3. Because she was a strong proponent of preserving the well-being of pregnant mothers and preserving the life of their babies, her family has requested that donations in her memory be made to Life Line, Inc., a pregnancy care center in Leesburg. Contributions should be marked "jill Simpson-Davis Memorial Fund" and be sent to Life Line, Inc., 15B Catoctin Circle, SE, Suite 207, Leesburg, Va., 20175.

Barbara Joyce Stansell

Barbara Joyce Stansell, 68, of Sterling, died at Inova Fairfax Hospital Center Nov. 23.

She was born July 8, 1936 in Washington, D.C., to Ruth Storty of Sterling, and the late Julian Storty. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald C. Stansell.

Survivors include one sister, Patricia L. Storty of Winchester; three children, Terry L. Stansell of Sterling, Donald P. Stansell of Sterling, and Joyce R. Stansell of Brooklyn, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and one great granddaughter.

Services were held Nov. 29 at Adams- Green Funeral Home in Herndon, with interment at National Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the American Heart Association, 7203 Poplar St., Annandale, Va., 22003, or to the Homeless Animal Rescue Team, P.O. Box 7261, Fairfax Station, Va., 22039.
