Carolyn F. Eggleston
Carolyn Fulcher Eggleston, 80, of 270 Meadow Lane, Collinsville, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006, at her home.
She was born in Henry County on May 19, 1925, to Gertie F. Fulcher and Ellis R. Fulcher. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, John Allen "J.A." Eggleston.
She received an accounting degree from Peabody College and worked in the main office at Bassett Furniture Industries.
She founded the Clothe-A-Child project of Martinsville and Henry County for which she was awarded an Outstanding Citizen Award by then-Gov. Doug Wilder. She was a volunteer chaplain at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
She was a charter member of Stanleytown United Methodist Church and a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, where she served as president of both United Methodist Women groups. She also was a past president of the Danville District UMW. She founded a Brownie Troop at Ross Harbour United Methodist Church in Patrick County.
Surviving are her daughter, Betsy Lou Eggleston Bishop of Bassett; three sons, Francis Allen Eggleston of Holt, Mo., Ellis Fulcher Eggleston of Bland and Mark Steven Eggleston of Springboro, Ohio; three grandsons; a great-granddaughter; a step-grandson; and two brothers, Kenneth Fulcher of West End, N.C., and Strother Fulcher of Martinsville.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Philip Waltz officiating. Entombment will be in Roselawn Abbey.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at Collins Funeral Services in Bassett.
Memorials may be made to Clothe-A-Child of Martinsville-Henry County, c/o Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 824-825 Starling Ave., Martinsville, Va. 24112, or the Alzheimer's Association, Central and Western Va. Chapter, Roanoke Region, 2728 Colonial Ave. SW, Suite 2, Roanoke, Va. 24015.

Christine M. Fain
The funeral for Christine M. Fain, 79, of Bassett, who died Jan. 10, 2006, was held Thursday at Bassett Funeral Services with the Rev. Alvin "Joe" Nunley officiating. Burial was in Henry Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were David Amos, Ryan Amos, Junior Amos, Tom Compton, Billy McBride and Joe Salmon.

Harold Gravely
The funeral for Harold Gravely of Martinsville, who died Jan. 8, 2006, was held Thursday at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Michael Penn officiating. Burial was in Carver Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Melvin Gravely, James Gravely, Alfred Waller, Rufus Stockton, Johnny Philpott and Ben E. Gravely.
Hines Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.

Norma J. Handy
Norma Jean Handy, 70, of 1575 North River Road, Fieldale, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
She was born in Collinsville on Nov. 27, 1935, to Raymond Justice Fulp and Bettie Alice Chitwood Fulp. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She was a homemaker who formerly co-owned Handy's Restaurant on U.S. 58, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Collinsville.
Surviving are her husband, Billy Handy Sr. of the home; a daughter, Glenda Handy Watkins of Patrick Springs; a son, Billy Handy Jr. of Collinsville; two sisters, Betty Lou Deal of Martinsville and Brenda Anderson of Wrightsville, N.C.; four granddaughters; two great-granddaughters; a great-grandson; and a step-great-grandson.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Collins Funeral chapel in Bassett with the Revs. Eugene Chitwood and Edward Hartman officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the home.

Matthew Harris
A graveside service for Matthew Harris, who died Jan. 7, 2006, was held Wednesday at Carver Memorial Gardens.
Hines Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.

Virginia K. Kusse
Virginia Esther Knowles Kusse, 81, of 611 Orchard St., Martinsville, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, at her home.
She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on Dec. 19, 1924, to Forrest B. Knowles and Esther Peterson Knowles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Kusse; and a son, Daniel James Kusse.
She graduated from North Olmsted High School in Cleveland, and was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in DeLand, Fla.
Surviving are her daughter, Linda Kusse-Wolfe of Martinsville; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ron Mateer officiating. Burial be Saturday, Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. at Oakdale Cemetery in DeLand.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at McKee-Stone Funeral Services chapel.

Joseph N. Poindexter
VIRGINIA BEACH -- Joseph "Joe" Newton Poindexter, 95, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, at his home.
He was born in Elkins, W.Va. He worked at the Martinsville Bulletin for a number of years before to moving to the peninsula, where he retired as a graphic artist for the Daily Press. He worked in golf pro shops at Newport News and Hampton golf courses, as well as the local driving range in Hampton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Poindexter.
Surviving are three children, Florence Meszaros of Maryland, Patricia Hundley of Virginia Beach and Bill Poindexter of Centerville; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for one hour before the funeral at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 20 Koger Executive Center, Suite 233, Norfolk, Va. 23502.

Oscar G. Rigney
The funeral for Oscar Giles Rigney, 92, of Penhook, who died Jan. 10, 2006, was held Thursday at Norris Funeral Services with the Rev. Lewis Harris officiating. Burial was in the Rigney family cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dana Willie, Joey Willie, Leon Rigney, Jeff Brogan, Prenson Davidson and Jerry Davidson.

Elma G. Sink
Elma Gay Sink, 61, of Bassett, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Bassett Funeral Service will announce arrangements.

Geraldine H. Venn
Geraldine Mae Hall Venn, 83, of Bassett, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
She was born in Brocton, N.Y., to Arthur Hall and Ailene Ericson Hall. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Pamela Jolly; a brother, Arthur Hall; and two sisters, Gladys Cave and Janet Thompson.
She graduated from Brocton Central School in New York. She was a homemaker and was a member of Brocton United Methodist Church in New York.
Surviving are her husband, Arthur Milbourne Venn of the home; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. T.G. Ayers officiating.
The family will receive friends for two hours before the service and other times at the home of her son-in-law, Robert Jolly, at 2921 Reed Creek Drive, Bassett.

Frances E. Wilbourne
A funeral for Frances Elizabeth "Beth" Wilbourne, 59, of Halifax, who died Jan. 7, 2006, was held Tuesday at Norris Funeral Services with the Rev. Doug Gibson officiating. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Kenny Huff, Sam Rucker, Scott White and Vernon Reynolds.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Dan River Baptist Church in Halifax.
