Lawrence Walter Witte 81
Lawrence Walter"Larry" Witte, 81, of Colonial Beach died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at Heritage Hall Health Care in King George County.
Born in St. Paul Minn., Mr. Witte was a car and truck specialist with Hunt Motors in LaPlata, Md.
He was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, past exalted ruler of Elks Lodge 2666, member of Moose Lodge 1267, American Legion Post 148 and Eagles Club 4315, all of Colonial Beach, and a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge 10 in Richmond.
Survivors include his wife, Viola K. "Vi" Witte; a daughter, Kay Kelly of Denver, Col.; two sons, Wayne E. Schultz of McLean and John A. Schultz of Leesburg; three sisters; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, at St. Mary's Episcopal Church. The Rev. Ron Okrasinski officiated. Commital of ashes followed in St. Mary's Memorial Gardens.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Box 420, Colonial Beach, Va. 22443.
Nash 7 Slaw Funeral Home, Colonial Beach, handled the arrangements.

James Bernard Johnson 71
James Bernard "Sonny" Johnson, 71, of King George County died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, at Carriage Hill Nursing Home in Spotsylvania County.
Born in Washington, Mr. Johnson was a carpenter for the U.S.Department of Department of Defense. He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and Masonic Lodge 23, both in Washington. He was the widower of Gladys Johnson.
Survivors include a brother, Bertram Johnson of King George; three nieces; and two nephews.
A funeral will be held at noon Friday at Lee Funeral Home, King George, with the Rev. Veolia Bumbry officiating. Burial will be in Historyland Memorial Park in King George.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service Friday at the funeral home.

Richard Leon Martin 59
A graveside service for Richard Leon Martin, 59, of King George County was held Monday, Nov. 20, at Richland Baptist Church cemetery. The Rev. Douglas Milliner officiated.
Mr. Martin died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, at Mary Washington Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Maryland, he was an automobile mechanic for Lustine Chevrolet.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen L. Martin of Washington State; a son, Richard L. Martin Jr. of King George; his parents, Fred and Dorothy Martin of King George; three brothers, Carl Eugene Martin of Maryland, David Wayne Martin and Kenny Martin, both of King George; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy that the form of contributions to Mary Washington Hospice, 2217 Princess Anne St., Suite 002-1, Fredericksburg, Va. 22401.
Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel, handled the arrangements.

Charles Edward Fain 63
Charles Edward Fain, 63, of King George County, formerly of Severn, Md., died Tuesday, Nov. 14, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Born in Washington, Mr. Fain had retired as an electrican with Kraft Electrical Co. in the Washington area. He was an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Corette P. Fain; four daughters, Charisse A. Fain, Donna Lee Fain and Corette F. Fain, all of King George, and Mary Catherine Malenab of Bowie, Md.; two stepsons, Robert Edward Holden and Dana Wayne Holden, both of King George; a sister, Bernadine Dyer of Rockville, Md.; a brother, Robert Fain of Fla.; and 11 grandchildren.
A graveside service was held Tuesday, Nov. 21, in Arlington National Cemetery, with military honors.
Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George, handled the arrangements.

Ronald F, Covington 50
Ronald Franklin "Rinnie" Covington, 50, of King George County died unexpectedly Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, at his residence.
Born in Fredericksburg, Mr. Covington was a conductor for the CSX Transportation for 29 years. A Member of Fairview veteran of the Vietname War.
Survivors include his wife, Sandy C. Covington; a daughter, Kara R. Covington of King George; his mother, Virginia S. Covington of Fredericksburg; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral was held Tuesday, at Rappahannock Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to a favorite charity.

Benson G. Potts 85
Benson G. Potts, 85, of Reedville, formerly of King George County, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at Lancashire Center in Kilmarnock.
Born in Oak Grove, she was a member of Oakland Baptist Church in King George. She was the widow of Fletcher Potts.
Survivors include a daughter, Marion Elder of Reedville; three sisters, Susie Fields G. McKeiver of Baltimore and Alice Berry and Catherine Wilkerson, both of Colonial Beach; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral was held Monday, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George. The Rev. Guy D. Mattox Jr. officiated and burial followed in Historyland Memorial Park.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Oakland Baptist Church Building Fund, 5520 James Madison Parkway, King George, Va. 22485.

James E. "Snowdy" Gatewood 49
A funeral for James E. "Snowdy" Gatewood, 49, of King George County was held Saturday, Nov. 4, at Cedell Brooks Funeral Home, Port Royal. The Rev. Joseph Toliver officiated and burial was in Antioch Baptist Church cemetery in King George.
Mr.Gatewood died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, at Inova Fairfax Hospital after an altercation with his brother. His death is being investigated by the King George Sheriff's Office.
Born in King George, he worked as a pipefitter for B. Frank Joy Construction Co. in Bladensburg, Md. He was also a former employee of Clift Ford Motor Co. in King George.
Survivors include a son, James Graham of Washington; his father, George A. Gatewood of King George; his stepfather, Charles Edelen of King George; two sisters, Faye McDowney and Cornelius Gatewood, both of King George; two stepsisters, Marcellus Jett of Fredericksburg and Debbie Hughes of King George; four brothers, Earnest Gatewood and Milton Gatewood, both of King George, Ralph Gatewood of Smokes, S.C., and Gregory Gatewood of Fredericksburg.

Henry "Skeeter" Stine 67
Henry "Skeeter" Nicholas Stine, Jr. 67, of Cobb Island, Md., died Wednesday, Oct 25, 2000, at Civista Medical Center.
Born in Rock Point, Md., on May 12, 1933, Mr. Stine was a self-employed-waterman/brick layer.
Mr. Stine was a member of Holy Ghost Church, in Issue, Md. Past member of Cobb Island VFD and Rescue Squad. He enjoyed Saturday night poker game and loved to fish and the water.
A funeral was held Monday, Oct. 30, at Holy Ghost. The Rev. Karl Chimiak officiated and burial was in Holy Ghost cemetery. Pallbearers were Billy Swann, Kevin O'Donnell, James Mattingly, Richard Burnette, Dave Sweeney, George Dean.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian F. Stine; three daughters, Laura Haynes of Clinton, Md., Joanne Boarman of Newburg, Md., and Cindy Bolen, of Loveville, Md.; three sons, Gary Stine of Pomfret, Md., John Stine of Cobb Island, Md. and Timmy Stine of Colonial Beach; a brother, Timmy Stine of Pompano Beach, Fl.; and one sister, Annabelle Hayden of Cobb Island, Md., 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

James Hall Settle 86 years
James Hall Settle, 86, of Warsaw died Friday, Jan. 18, 2001, at a hospital in Richmond. Mr. Settle had retired as a farm-implement mechanic from Farmers Supply Store in Montross. He was a life member of Nomini Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and a Sunday School teacher. He was the widower of Audrey France Settle. Survivors include his wife, Anne S. Settle; two daughters, Jane Settle Stanley of Arlington and Patricia Scates Cadow of Fredericksburg; a son, Tyler Settle of Ashburn; a sister, Willianna Abrams of Seminole, Fla.; and two grandchildren. A funeral was held Monday at Nomini Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Nomini Baptist Church Memorial Fund, c/o Bonnie Balderson, 18344 Kings Highway, Montross, Va. 22520.

John T. Pentecost 44 years
John Thomas "Big John" Pentecost, 44, of King George died of a heart attack Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at Mary Washington Hospital. Mr. Pentecost had worked as a forklift operator for J.D. Long Masonry. He is survived by his wife, Mona Pentecost; a daughter, Kellie Bannister of King George; and two granddaughters. A funeral was held last Wednesday at Found & Sons Funeral Home, Fredericksburg. A graveside service was held Thursday in Providence Baptist Church cemetery in Red House.

Bessie T. Noel 80 years
Bessie Tignor Noel, 80, of Richmond died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at the Medical College of Virginia Hospitals in Richmond. She was the mother of Margaret Ann Jenkins of Oak Grove. Mrs. Noel had retired from Fairfield Middle School in Henrico County after 25 years. She was a member of New Highland Baptist Church in Mechanicsville. In addition to her daughter of Oak Grove, Mrs. Noel is survived by her husband, Clifton S. Noel; six brothers, Daniel Tignor and John Tignor, both of Caret, James Tignor and Clarence Tignor, both of Milford, George Tignor of Bowling Green and Bobby Tignor of Poquoson; a grandson; a granddaughter; a great-granddaughter; and three great-grandsons. A funeral was held last Monday, Jan. 15 at Upper King and Queen Baptist Church at Helmet. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to New Highland Baptist Church Building Fund, 9200 New Ashcake Road, Mechanicsville, Va. 23116; or to Oak Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 8096 Leedstown Road, Oak Grove, Va. 22443. B.W. White Funeral Home, Aylett, handled the arrangements.
