Ed Lydick 63 years
Edward Donald "Ed" Lydick, 63, of King George died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at Mary Washington Hospital. Born in Queens, N.Y., Mr. Lydick was raised in Bladensburg, Md. He had retired as a packaging specialist contractor. He was also a classical music disc jockey in Montgomery, Ala., a minister in St. Louis, Mo. and a radio minister in Alabama. He attended Tabernacle Baptist Church and Hanover Baptist Church in King George. Survivors include his wife, Patty A. Lydick; a daughter, Desiree Pieper of Tionesta, Pa.; four sons, Jeffrey A. Lydick of Atlanta, Ga., Brian K. Lydick of Montgomery, Ala., Edward D. Lydick II of King George and Timothy S. Lydick of Pittsburgh, Pa.; four brothers, George Lydick of New Orleans, La., Gordon Lydick of Bowie, Md., Harry Lydick of Fulton, Ky. and Frayne C. Lydick, Jr. of Roanoke; and two grandchildren. A memorial service was held yesterday at Tabernacle Baptist Church, King George. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the American Lung Association, 1740 Broadway, New York, N.Y. 10019; or to the Dahlgren Rescue Squad, Box 1375, Dahlgren, Va. 22448. Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George, handled the arrangements.

Bessie L. Lockwood 87 years
Bessie L. Lockwood, 87, of Colonial Beach died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at Mary Washington Health Center at Colonial Beach. Mrs. Lockwood, born in East Springfield, Pa., had been a resident at the health care facility for the past four months. She was the widow of Ralph W. Lockwood. Survivors include a daughter, Connie May Angerer of Colonial Beach; a son, Larry W. Lockwood of Dahlgren; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was also the mother of the late Rex Lockwood. A memorial service will be held at a later date.The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Mary Washington Hospice, 2217 Princess Anne St., Suite 002–1, Fredericksburg, Va. 22401.Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, Colonial Beach, is handling the arrangements.

Josephine A. Hyde 90 years
Josephine Montgomery Ardery Hyde, 90, of Paris, Ky., died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at the Hospice Care Center at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Ky. She was the mother of Patsy Hyde Hostelka of Colonial Beach. Mrs. Hyde was the widow of James Wilson Hyde and Edsell Steel Clark. She attended Centre College in Danville, Ky., and had been employed at Second National Bank in Lexington, Ky. She was a life member of First Presbyterian Church in Paris and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Besides her daughter of Colonial Beach, she is survived by a brother; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A private funeral was held Saturday at the chapel in Paris Cemetery. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Dr., Lexington, Ky. 40504. Lusk–McFarland Funeral Home, Paris, handled the arrangements.

Mike Ford 67 years
Matthew Sydnor "Mike" Ford, 67, of Colonial Beach died at his home Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, after a long illness. Mr. Ford, born in Westmoreland, was an iron worker and later was employed at Montross Lumber Co. He had been a longtime member of Alcoholics Anonymous. Survivors include his wife, Linda M. Ford; a son, John M. Ford of Colonial Beach; his mother, Corneila Ford of Montross; five sisters, Lois Taylor, Frances Evans, Mollie Jenkins, Elizabeth Yeatman and Mae Mozingo, all of Montross; three brothers, Melvin Ford and Bobby Ford, both of Seattle, Wash., and Eli Ford of Richmond; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral was held Thursday at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, Colonial Beach. Burial was in Nomini Baptist Church cemetery near Templemans. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Colonial Beach Rescue Squad, 225 Dennison St., Colonial Beach, Va. 22443. Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, Colonial Beach, handled the arrangements.

Timmy Burrows 42 years
Timothy W. "Timmy" Burrows, 42, of Colonial Beach died at his home Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, of an apparent heart attack. Born in Arlington, he was an Army veteran and had worked throughout the west until he settled in Colonial Beach in 1990. He was the lead mechanic for Colonial Beach Mobil and later worked for NAPA Auto Parts in Colonial Beach. Survivors include his mother, Virginia Dell Gettings of Las Vegas; a sister, Angie Burrows of Dallas; and a brother, Charles Burrows of Denver. A memorial service was held Saturday at the Colonial Beach Eagles Club. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department, Box 1310, Oak Grove, Va. 22443.

Lavonia F. Thomas 89 years
Lavonia F. Thomas, 89, of Capitol Heights, Md., formerly of Colonial Beach, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at a hospital in Prince Georges County, Md.
Born in Steelton, Pa., Mrs. Thomas had retired from the Defense Language Institute. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Links Inc. and Hands Across the Sea.
Survivors include two daughters, Lavonne Claytor Hobbs of Winter Garden, Fla., and Andree W. Thomas of Capitol Heights, Md.; a son, Carlton G. Thomas Jr. of Colonial Beach; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral was held Tuesday at From the Heart Church Ministries in Temple Hills, Md. Burial was in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, Suitland, Md.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Howard University, c/o Denice Hart, Class Reunion Officer, 2225 Georgia Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20059.

James H. Payton 93 years
James H. Payton, 93, of King George died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Mr. Payton, an Army veteran of World War II, was the widower of Pearl Payton.
Survivors include a sister, Frances Payton, and a brother, Harrison Payton, both of Washington, D.C.
A funeral was held Tuesday at Bailey Funeral Service, with the Rev. James Frye officiating. Burial was in Quantico National Cemetery.

Helen Mitchell 84 years
Helen Doris Mitchell, 84, of Colonial Beach died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.
Mrs. Mitchell was a member of Colonial Beach United Methodist Church, the Senior Citizens Club of Westmoreland County, and the Colonial Beach American Legion Auxiliary.
She was the widow of Clair David Mitchell.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Johnson of Laurel, Md.; a sister, Dorothy Burch of Hyattsville, Md.; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Tuesday at Colonial Beach United Methodist Church. Commitment of ashes will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Senior Citizens Club of Westmoreland County; or the American Heart Association, Mid-Atlantic Affiliate, Memorials and Tributes Processing Center, Box 5216, Glen Allen, Va. 23058.

Marie Mason 86 years
Marie M. Mason, 86, of King George died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at Bowling Green Health Care Center.
Mrs. Mason was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church and the widow of Lewis B. Mason.
Survivors include two sons, William C. Buckner of Jacksonville, Fla., and Larry E. Buckner of Lorton; three sisters, Nell McIntyre, Louise Justice and Sarah Searcy, all of North Carolina; four grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral was held this morning at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel. Burial was private.

Robert Marshall 87 years
Robert J. H. Marshall, 87, of Colonial Beach died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Born in Greeneville, Tenn., Mr. Marshall had retired from the Army after 26 years, where he was a military policeman and a dog handler. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in King George and enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine E. Marshall; a daughter, Joy Proctor of Colonial Beach; eight sons, Robert J. Marshall Jr., James Marshall and Danny Marshall, all of Colonial Beach, Richard Marshall of King George, David Marshall, George Marshall and Jerry Marshall, all of Manassas, and Leslie Marshall of Williamsport, Pa.; 20 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was also the father of the late Betty Jo Marshall.
A funeral was held this morning at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, Colonial Beach. Burial was in Quantico National Cemetery.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to a favorite charity.

Estelle S. Maiden 62 years
Estelle Smith Maiden, 62, of Oak Grove died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at her home.
Born in Westmoreland County, Mrs. Maiden had been employed at Heritage Hall Health Care in King George and as a cook and waitress at Bowie's Restaurant in Oak Grove. She was a member of Little Zion Baptist Church, where she sang in the Senior Choir.
Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Cooper and Phyllis Maiden, both of Oak Grove; two sons, Stanley Wayne Maiden of Jacksonville, Fla. and Willard D. Maiden of Norfolk; her father, Russell Howard Smith of Oak Grove; three sisters, Alice L. Tate and Linda Dickerson, both of Oak Grove and Annette Smith of Petersburg; three brothers, James L. Smith, Lawrence E. Smith and William A. Smith, all of Oak Grove; and five grandchildren.
A funeral was held Saturday at Little Zion Baptist Church, Oak Grove. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Louis Harrison Jr. 68 years
Louis B. "Red" Harrison Jr., 68, of Port Royal in Caroline County died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at Mary Washington Hospital after a long battle with cancer.
Mr. Harrison had retired as owner and operator of Harrison Refrigeration & Air Conditioning in King George after many years. After his retirement, he continued as a waterman.
His memberships included Steamfitters Local 602, American Legion Post 148 in Colonial Beach, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8717 in King George, and Elks Lodge 875 in Fredericksburg.
Mr. Harrison, an avid collector of nautical artifacts throughout his life, was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Terri Harrison; two daughters, Debbie Fisher of Midlothian and Cathy Lowry of King George; a son, Allen Harrison of Colonial Beach; two sisters, Audrey Powell of Warsaw and Linda Phillips of Colonial Beach; a brother, Gary Harrison of Oak Grove; four grandchildren; and seven nieces and nephews.
A funeral was held Friday at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, Colonial Beach.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. Richard Wheat, Box 911, Dahlgren, Va. 22448.

James L. Gutridge 54 years
James Lawrence Gutridge, 54, of Colonial Beach died at his residence Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, after a long illness.
Mr. Gutridge had retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanie C. Gutridge; two daughters, Melissa Ann Mullins of Fredericksburg and Jamie Carol Mullins of Richmond; two sons, Curtis Wade Mullins of Colonial Beach and Herbert Hurbert of Charles Town, W.Va.; his mother, Alice M. Tate of Colonial Beach; and two grandchildren.
A funeral was held Sunday at Welch Funeral Home, Montross. Burial was in Rappahannock Baptist Church cemetery.
