Louise Knobloch Wollett, 83, of Colonial Beach died Monday, June 25, 2001, at Mary Washington Hospital. Born in Washington, she was a United States Postal Service clerk at Dahlgren and at Colonial Beach. She was a member of Colonial Beach Baptist Church. Mrs. Wollett was the widow of Peter Harry Sayer and Victor Wollett. Survivors include a daughter, Dinah S. Jenkins of Colonial Beach; a sister, Jean A. Kleinknecht of Colonial Beach; three grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral was held Thursday at Colonial Beach Baptist Church. Burial was in Arlington National Cemetery Thursday. The Rev. Johnny Almond officiated. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Colonial Beach Baptist Church, Box 27, Colonial Beach, Va. 22443; or to the Colonial Beach Rescue Squad, 225 Dennison St., Colonial Beach, Va. 22443. Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, Colonial Beach, handled the arrangements.

Edith Powers Monett 78 years
Edith Powers Monett, 78, of Montross died Thursday, June 28, 2001, at a Richmond hospital. Survivors include her husband, Leon Clyde Monett; four daughters, Rene Dean of Canyon Lake, Tex., Candace M. Nash and Marguerite Monett, both of Montross, and Eloise J. Wileman of Jefferson, Md.; a son, David C. Monett of Essex Junction, Tex.; a sister, Jane Earl of Baldwin, N.Y.; and four grandchildren. A memorial service was held Monday at Welch Funeral Home, Montross. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Montross Volunteer Rescue Squad, Box 1174, Montross, Va. 22520.

Joseph T. Jenkins 83 years
Joseph T. Jenkins, 83, of Colonial Beach died Monday, June 25, 2001, at Mary Washington Hospital. Born in Fredericksburg, he had retired from the Naval Weapons Laboratory. Survivors include a daughter, Joanne Jenkins of Fredericksburg; a son, Ralph T. Jenkins of Colonial Beach; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson. A graveside service was held last Wednesday in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The Rev. R. Kenneth Brooks officiated. Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel, handled the arrangements.

Eleanor Hausner Schilt Hill 65 years
Eleanor Hausner Schilt Hill, 65, of King George County, died Sunday, July 1, 2001, at her home. Mrs. Hill was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, the King George Garden Club and had worked as an assistant editor for A.S. Pratt and Sons for over 16 years. Survivors include her husband, J. Clark Hill; three daughters, Ann St. Clair Hill Slappey of Springfield, Elizabeth Weber Hill of Arlington and Ellen Clark Kelderman of King George; three sisters, Martha S. Stewart, Alice S. Magee and Susan S. Lawless, all of Norfolk; two brothers, John F. Schilt of Frankfurt, Ky., and Christian F. Schilt Jr. of Cherry Hill, N.J.; two grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial was held Thursday at St. John's Catholic Church, McLean. Burial was in Columbia Gardens Cemetery in Arlington. The Rev. Wilhelm Ettner officiated. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Mary Washington Hospice, 2217 Princess Anne St., Suite 002-1, Fredericksburg, Va. 22401. Found & Sons Funeral Chapels, Fredericksburg, handled the arrangements.

Lillian Sanford Altman 82 years
Lillian Sanford Altman, 82, of Montross died Thursday, June 28, 2001, at Green Valley Terrace in Millsboro, Del. Born in Westmoreland County, Mrs. Altman was a member of Providence United Methodist Church at Chiltons, and was the widow of Lloyd W. Altman. Survivors include a daughter, Linn Hickman of Ocean View, Md.; a sister, Cora Frene of Silver Spring. Md.; a brother, Roy M. Sanford of Montross; and two grandchildren. A funeral was held Monday at Welch Funeral Home, Montross. Burial was in Providence United Methodist Church cemetery. The Rev. J. Charles Dameron officiated.

Brandon Lemar Weldon 16 years
Brandon Lemar Weldon, 16, of Spotsylvania County died Saturday, June 9, 2001. He drowned in the Rappahannock River in Fredericksburg. He was the maternal grandson of George and Leverna Carey of Montross, and the great-grandson of the Rev. Robert Hoban of Oak Grove. Born in Frankfurt, Germany, Mr. Weldon was a junior at Courtland High School, where he played on the school's football team. Other survivors include his father, Victor Weldon of Woodbridge; his mother, Lesley Carey Weldon of Fredericksburg; a brother, Miles Weldon of Woodbridge; and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Medwyn Weldon of Fredericksburg. A funeral was held Thursday at Potomac Baptist Church, Hague. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The Rev. Raymond C. Bell and the Rev. James King officiated. Weldon-Fisher Funeral Home, Nomini Grove, handled the arrangements.

Rebecca R. Tyndall 72 years
Rebecca R. Tyndall, 72, of King George County died Thursday, June 14, 2001, at Woodmont Center in Fredericksburg. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in King George. Survivors include a daughter, Lana T. Wilkerson of West Chester, Pa.; a son, William Scott Tyndall of King George; her mother, Virginia M. Hopkins of Salisbury, Md.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A funeral was held Saturday at St. Paul's Episcopal church. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Rev. Christopher Agnew officiated. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 5486 St. Paul's Road, King George, Va. 22485. Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George, handled the arrangements.

Benjamin Asbury Sanford 94 years
Benjamin Asbury Sanford, 94, of Colonial Beach died of cancer Saturday, June 16, 2001, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Richmond. A native of Westmoreland County, Mr. Sanford was a World War II Navy veteran, having served with the Seabees in the South Pacific. He was a union carpenter for 68 years and business representative for the United Brotherhood of Carpenters, Washington District Council, for 28 years. He was the last charter member of Carpenters Local 1590 of Washington, which was founded in 1933. Mr. Sanford was instrumental in starting the Carpenters Apprenticeship Program in 1948, helped with the development of the Carpenters Health and Welfare Program in 1950 and the Pension Program in 1960. He received a Presidential Commendation from the Labor Department signed by President John F. Kennedy for his efforts. He was appointed trustee of the Anderson Orthopaedic Clinic and Hospital in Arlington in 1952 and served on the hospital's board of directors for over 20 years. Mr. Sanford was a 50-year member of Federal Lodge 1, a 32nd degree Mason, a Royal Arch Mason, charter member of Kena Temple, and member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of Providence United Methodist Church in Montross and was the widower of Ruth Sanford. Survivors include two daughters, Judith Brauning of Colonial Beach and Mary Jane Singer of Haymarket; four sisters, Clara Marmaduke of Montross, Mary Pauline Clark of Annandale, Elizabeth England and Ellen Balko, both of Camp Springs, Md.; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was also the father of the late Patricia Sanford. A funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Providence United Methodist Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Welch Funeral Home, Montross.

Mabel Celestine Page 77 years
Mabel Celestine Page, 77, of Oak Grove in Westmoreland County died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at Providence Hospital in Washington. A Washington native, Mrs. Page was a beautician at Mirror Beauty Salon. She was a member of the Salem Baptist Church choir. Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Robert Lewis Page; six children, Kreceda Page Brodis, Rolline Washington, William C. Page, Lolita Page Chichester, Pamela Taylor-Scott and Paula Page Walden; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren. A funeral was held Friday at Salem Baptist Church in Washington. Burial took place at Little Zion Baptist Church in Oak Grove. The Rev. Leonard M. Howard officiated. Lee Funeral Home, King George, handled the arrangements.

Larry Douglas Medley Jr. infant
Larry Douglas Medley Jr., infant son of Larry D. and Jeanie M. Medley of Spotsylvania County, died Thursday, June 14, 2001, at Mary Washington Hospital. He was the brother of Jason A. Medley and paternal grandson of Helen and Gordon Weeks Jr., all of King George County. Other survivors include a sister, Maria L. Medley of the home; his maternal grandparents, Kathy Heinbaugh and Ronald Gordon of Spotsylvania; and his paternal great-grandmother, Beulah Medley of Stafford County. A memorial service was held Tuesday at Found & Sons Funeral Chapels, Fredericksburg. The Rev. James M. Eure Jr. officiated.

Elmer H. Green 61 years
Elmer H. Green, 61, of King George County died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at his home after an apparent heart attack. A native of King George, Mr. Green worked for the Virginia Department of Transportation for 19 years and completed various farming jobs in the community. Survivors include two daughters, Donna S. Burgess of West Jefferson, N.C., and Charlene Wilson of Bristol, Tenn.; two sons, Michael W. Green and Steven R. Green, both of West Jefferson, N.C.; his mother, Kathleen Green Wiley of King George; two sisters, Judy C. Trivette of King George and Darlene Stanley of Tampa, Fla.; one brother, Lester B. Green of King George; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral was held Friday at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George. Burial was in the Green family cemetery in King George. The Rev. Ted James officiated. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Dahlgren Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 1375, Dahlgren, Va. 22448.

Richard William "Pops" Carpenter 70 years
Richard William "Pops" Carpenter, 70, of King George County died Friday, June 15, 2001, at his home. Born in King George, Mr. Carpenter was a self-employed carpenter and contractor. He also owned and operated Mom & Pop's Grocery in Stafford County for several years. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Brooks Carpenter; three daughters, Shelly Campbell of Fredericksburg, Sandra Covington of King George and Tina Phillips of Falmouth; a son, Richard W. Carpenter Jr. of King George; several half sisters and half brothers; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral was held Monday at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel. Burial was in Falmouth Cemetery. The Rev. Jack Marcom officiated. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Dahlgren Volunteer Rescue Squad, Box 1374, Dahlgren, Va. 22448; or to Mary Washington Hospice, 2217 Princess Anne St., Suite 002-1, Fredericksburg, Va. 22401.

Warren Lee Miller 58 years
Warren Lee Miller, 58, of Woodford died of a heart attack in his home Wednesday, June 6, 2001. He is survived by his father, Wilmer Miller of King George County; a daughter, Brandy Miller; a brother, Gary Miller of King George; and a sister, Carol Hepner of King George. The body was cremated. Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, handled the arrangements.
