Stella R. Beasley
The funeral for Stella Rogers Beasley, 88, of Claudeville, who died Jan. 11, 2006, was held Saturday at Trinity Baptist Church with Drs. Jerry Whitlow and Craig Edwards officiating. Burial was in Robert L. Beasley Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Mitchell, Jerry Anderson, Phil Anderson, Wayne Rogers, Ricky Rogers and Andy Rogers.
Moody Funeral Services in Stuart was in charge of arrangements.

Doris S. Compton
Doris Irene Slaydon Compton, 85, of 1116 Knollwood Place, Martinsville, died Friday, Jan. 13, 2006, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Henry County on March 15, 1920, to Ned Slaydon and Minnie Sue Gregory Slaydon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Burtel Garner, Jane Compton and Ester Garrett; and two brothers, Paul Slaydon and Richard Slaydon.
She was a member of the Order Eastern Star, Martinsville Chapter 66, where she served as Past Worthy Matron three times. She was a past member of the Mt. Olivet Home Demonstrators Club and the Mt. Olivet Garden Club. She was also a member of First United Methodist Church in Martinsville and its Circle 5.
Surviving are her husband of 67 years, Harvey Thomas Compton of the home; and a sister, Marie Slaydon Smith of St. Joseph, Mo.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Norris Funeral Services chapel with the Revs. Ron Mateer and Ernest T. Herndon officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and at other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to Order Eastern Star, Martinsville Chapter 66, 700 Starling Ave., Martinsville, Va. 24112 or First United Methodist Church, 146 East Main St., Martinsville, Va. 24112.

Carolyn F. Eggleston
The funeral for Carolyn Fulcher Eggleston, 80, of Collinsville, who died Jan. 11, 2006, was held Saturday at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Philip Waltz officiating. Entombment was in Roselawn Abbey.
Pallbearers were John Michael Ayers, Travis Reed Eggleston, Jim Stegall, George Gusler, Larry Fulcher, Robert Fulcher, Phil Dalton, J.E. Blankenship and Ian W. Bishop.
Collins Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.

Norma J. Handy
The funeral for Norma Jean Handy, 70, of Fieldale, who died Jan. 12, 2006, was held at Saturday at Collins Funeral chapel in Bassett with the Revs. Eugene Chitwood and Edward Hartman officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.
Pallbearers were Douglas Watkins, Donnie Watkins, David Lovell, Jeff Baker, Joe Brock, Dwayne Horsley, Matt Lawless and Travis Lovell.

Joseph C. Hundley
Joseph Carroll Hundley, 52, of 159 Ridgeland Heights Road, Martinsville, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
Norris Funeral Services will announce arrangements.

Ruth S. Jamerson
MIAMI, FLA. -- Ruth Strait Jamerson, 81, of Collinsville, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, at South Miami Hospital.
McKee-Stone Funeral Services will announce arrangements.

Glenna J. King
RADFORD -- Glenna Josephine King, 65, of Radford, died Friday, Jan. 13, 2006, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.
She was born in Grayson County on Oct. 4, 1940, to William Glen Dexter and Sylvia Vira Dalton Dexter. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Raymond Eugene King of the home; a daughter, Anita Eibert of Basin, Wyo.; six sons, Raymond King Jr. and Kenneth King, both of Bassett, Allen King of Phoenix, Ariz., Joe King of Lexington, Robin King of Ormic, Philippines and Douglas King of Critz; four sisters, Gaynell Shuman of Woodlawn, Ruth Jackson of Lumberton, N.C., Wanda Shuman of Hillsville and Naomi Fortner of Bassett; three brothers, George Dexter of Georgia, Donnie Dexter of Bassett and Mark Dexter of Henry; 18 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bower Funeral chapel in Pulaski with Brother Frankie Graham officiating. Burial will be in Sunrise Cemetery in Fairlawn.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Sharon L. King
CHATHAM -- Sharon Louise King, 53, of 6121 Irish Road, Chatham, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Ada, Ohio, on Feb. 14, 1952, to John F. King and Melba King. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She was a member Church of God and was employed by ACE Services, where she served as an aide for the past three years.
Surviving are a son, Jerry Allen Saunders of Bassett; a sister, Sandra K. Kanto of Patterson, Calif.; and a brother, David King of Patterson, Calif.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Community Funeral Services with the Rev. Albert J. Robertson officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends for one hour before the service.

Mira Millner
Mira Millner, 84, of 506 Letcher St., Martinsville, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
She was born in Pittsylvania County on April 17, 1921, to Abraham Witcher and Eliza Tarpley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tony Lee Millner Sr.
She worked for Memorial Hospital in central supply for 18 years. She served in various capacities at Mount Sinai Apostle Church of Christ in God. She was involved in the missionary club and the Read-the-Bible Through ministry, which she formed.
Surviving are a daughter, Judy Niblett of Martinsville; three sons, Tony Millner of Martinsville, the Rev. Harry Millner of Winston-Salem, N.C., and James Millner of Birmingham, Ala.; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Mount Sinai Apostle Church of Christ in God with Bishop James Richardson Jr. and the Revs. Harry Millner and Marlon Millner officiating. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends for one half hour before the service and at other times at the home.
Hairston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Victor P. Rislow III
SELINSGROVE, PENN. -- Victor Phillip Rislow III, 64, of Selinsgrove, formerly of Martinsville, Va., died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2005, at Evangelical Community Hospital in Lewisburg.
He was born in Newark, N.J., on March 16, 1941, to Victor P. Rislow and Nell Dallas Rislow. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kyle D. Rislow.
He was raised in Martinsville and was a 1959 graduate of Martinsville High School, where he received the John Philip Sousa award. He received a bachelor's degree in music from the University of Kentucky and a master's degree in trumpet performance from Western Michigan University.
He was an associate professor of music at Susquehanna University and also taught at Western Michigan University, Bucknell University and West Virginia Institute of Technology. He also served as the tennis pro for Susquehanna Valley Country Club and founded the Susquehanna University cycling club.
Surviving are a daughter, Margaret Pugliese of New York City; a sister, Nell Rislow of Tallahassee, Fla.; and a grandson.
A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in Stretansky Hall in the Cunningham Music and Arts Building at Susquehanna University.
Memorials may be made to the Victor P. Rislow III Scholarship Fund, Development Office, Susquehanna University, 514 University Ave., Selinsgrove, Penn. 17870.

Margarete C. Service
The funeral for Margarete C. Service, 78, of Meadows of Dan, who died Jan. 10, 2006, was held Saturday at Moody Funeral Home chapel with Bucky Hunsicker officiating. Burial was in Knowles-Eden Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jim Wilson, Brandon Wilson, Marc Wilkerson, Corey Gayle, Jeremiah Shelor and Geoffrey Service.
