Alma C. Gregory 63 years
Alma Corine Gregory, 63, of Stafford County died at her home Thursday, July 19, 2001. She was the mother of Marcella Ann Bushrod of Colonial Beach and Silas Lee "Pete" Muse of King George County. Affectionately known as Sister, Mrs. Gregory was a member of Little Union Baptist Church in Dumfries. In addition to her daughter and son, she is survived include her husband, Humes Gregory of Jacksonville, S.C.; three other daughters, Nina Loretta Mudd of Winchester, Stacy Rose Simmons of Stafford and Clarissa Jane Pitman of Lawton, Okla.; a son, Humes Alvin Gregory Jr. of Youngstown, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. A funeral was held Friday at Little Union Baptist Church. Burial was in Quantico National Cemetery. The Rev. James Green officiated. Ames Funeral Home, Manassas, handled the arrangements.

William A. "Billy" Dodd 79 years
William A. "Billy" Dodd, 79, of Columbia, Md., formerly of King George County, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at Lorien Rehab Center in Columbia. Born in the Edgehill area of King George, Mr. Dodd had worked at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division, for 15 years, and had retired as a service representative from an air conditioning distributor. He was a life member of the Elks Lodge. Survivors include his wife, Virginia P. Dodd; a son, William A. "Drew" Dodd Jr. of Columbia, Md.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. He was also the father of the late Douglas G. Dodd. A funeral was held Friday at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George. Burial was in Potomac Baptist Church cemetery in King George. The Rev. Dennis Newton officiated. he family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Potomac Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, Box 701, King George, Va. 22485.

Emmett Cox 58 years
Emmett Cox, 58, of Colonial Beach died of lung cancer Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Mary Washington Hospital. He was employed by the city of Alexandria and was a member of Little Zion Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Cox; two daughters, Terry Davis and Lora Brown; a son, Emmett Cox III; a sister, Ella Mae Jones; and five grandchildren. A funeral was held at Tuesday at Little Zion Baptist Church in Oak Grove. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Rev. William B. Scott officiated. Lee Funeral Home, King George, handled the arrangements.

Mary Dorothy Carter 67 years
Mary Dorothy Carter, 67, of Woodford in Caroline County died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at the home of her brother, William H. Carter of Ruther Glen. She was the sister of John T. Carter of King George County. In addition to her brothers, she is survived by two sisters, Sallie J. Carter of Fredericksburg and Virginia P. Hart of Woodford; another brothers, Earl Carter of Woodford; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral was held Saturday at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green. Burial was in County Line Baptist Church Cemetery, Ruther Glen. The Rev. Andrew Bullock and the Rev. Fred Skaggs officiated. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Mary Washington Hospice, 2217 Princess Anne St., Suite 002-1, Fredericksburg, Va. 22401.

Colonial Beach Police Chief Ralph Edward Reed 53 years
Colonial Beach Police Chief Ralph Edward Reed, 53, died of cancer on Saturday, July 21, 2001, at his home. Mr. Reed had served as police chief since July 1997. Prior to that, he served six years on the Colonial Beach police force and five years as an officer in Fairfax County. Born in Alexandria, Mr. Reed had retired from the Army, where he was a military policeman and served in the Vietname War. He was president of Fraternal Order of Police Chapter 32 in Westmoreland County, and a member of Popes Creek Baptist Church in Baynesville. Survivors include his wife, Margaret L. Reed; a daughter, Stephanie Berry of Colonial Beach; a son, R. Christopher Reed of Salado, Texas; a brother, George K. Reed of Alexandria; two granddaughters; and three grandsons. A funeral with police honors was held Tuesday at Colonial Beach Baptist Church. Burial was in Popes Creek Baptist Church cemetery. The Rev. Richard Headley, the Rev. Sherman Davis and the Rev. Johnny Almond officiated. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to a favorite charity. Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, Colonial Beach, handled the arrangements.

Evelyn Mae Carter Morris 84 years
Evelyn Mae Carter Morris, 84, of Spotsylvania County died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at her home. She was the sister of Bennie Carter of King George County. Mrs. Morris was a member of Holy Church of God. In addition to her brother of King George, she is survived by four daughters, Geneva Talley, Evelyn Tyler, and Mary Lewis, all of Spotsylvania, and Adele Goss of Mineral; four sons, Emmett Morris, Wallace Morris, Bennie Morris and Lester Lewis, all of Spotsylvania; 42 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral was held Friday at Holy Church of God in Mineral. Burial was in the church cemetery. Elder Lynn Beanum officiated. Thomasson's Funeral Service in Louisa County handled the arrangements.

Frederica H. "Freddie" Moomaw 70 years
Frederica H. "Freddie" Moomaw, 70, of Monterey in Highland County died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at Augusta Medical Center. She was the mother of Dunbar Moomaw of Dahlgren. Mrs. Moomaw, born in Charlottesville, attended Monterey United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women. She also attended the Highland Senior Citizens Center and was the widow of Gilbert Franklin Moomaw. In addition to her son of Dahlgren, Mrs. Moomaw is survived by a daughter; another son; a sister; a brother; and five stepgrandchildren. A funeral was Friday at Monterey United Methodist Church. Burial was in Historyland Memorial Park in King George County. The Rev. Stephanie Wilson officiated. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Highland Cancer Society, c/o Ellen Ratcliffe, Box 163, Monterey, Va. 24465; to Highland Medical Center, Box 490, Monterey, Va. 24465; or to Highland Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Box 6, Monterey, Va. 24465. Obaugh Funeral Home, McDowell, handled the arrangements.

Florence G. Hayden 77 years
Florence G. Hayden, 77, of Colonial Beach died Thursday, July 19, 2001, at Mary Washington Hospital. Born in Elkins, W.Va., she had worked as a nurse in Northern Virginia. She was the widow of Paul Hayden. Survivors include a daughter, Debra Jones of Springfield; three sons, Steven Billig of Leesburg, Michael Billig of Colonial Beach and Paul Hayden Jr. of Manassas; two sisters, Dorothy Mills of Florida and Alice Kotts of West Virginia; a brother, John Parks of Charlottesville; and seven grandchildren. She was also the mother of the late Gregory Billig. A graveside committal of ashes took place today at Historyland Memorial Park in King George County. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society, Route 2, Box 738, Montross, Va. 22520. Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, Colonial Beach, handled the arrangements.

Earl Francis Foster 58 years
Earl Francis Foster, 58, of Ellicott City, Md., formerly of King George County, died at his home Thursday, July 19, 2001, from complications of diabetes.. Mr. Foster had retired as a truck driver from B.E.N. Towing in Ellicott City. Survivors include his wife, Mildred C. Foster; a daughter, Kathryn Rigg of King George; two stepdaughters, Jennifer Thompson of Baltimore and Carol Gutberlet of Texas; a stepson, John Steart III of Millersville, Md.; three sisters, Betty Williams of Locust Hill, Agnes Wade of Hartfield and Ada Powell of Saluda; a brother, Lucius Foster of Locust Hill; eight grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Saluda Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tyler Townsend officiating. Burial will be private. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to St. Agnes Hospice, 3421 Benson Ave., Suite G-100, Baltimore, Md. 21227. Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home, Elkridge, Md., is handling the arrangements.

Margaret Jeane Hudson Deyo 75 years
Margaret Jeane Hudson Deyo, 75, of Fredericksburg died Monday, July 16, 2001, at her home. She was the mother of Bill L. Deyo of Colonial Beach. Mrs. Deyo worked as a bookkeeper for Burke-Hudson Corp. for over 20 years. She was a member of the Moose Lodge in Colonial Beach, the Fredericksburg Elks Lodge Auxiliary and the Patawomeck Indian Tribe of Virginia. In addition to her son of Colonial Beach, Mrs. Deyo is survived by her husband, Bill E. Deyo, and several nieces and nephews. A funeral was held Friday at Found & Sons Funeral Chapels, Fredericksburg. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Randy Allensworth officiated. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. T.A. Blackburn, 100 Woodbourne Lane, Fredericksburg, Va. 22402.

Christian Caspar 88 years
Christian Caspar, 88, of Westmoreland County died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at Washington & Lee Home in Westmoreland. Formerly of Landover, Md., Mr. Caspar had retired as a master cabinetmaker for the federal government in the Washington area. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Woodbridge. Survivors include his wife, Faye P. Caspar, who makes her home with her son, Christian Caspar III of Hague; two daughters, Faye Stoneman of Bowie, Md., and Pauline Allen of Mitchellville, Md.; two sisters; three brothers; and several grandchildren. A graveside service was held Monday in Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood, Md. Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, Colonial Beach, handled the arrangements.

Emerson "Tubby" Bullock 69 years
Emerson "Tubby" Bullock, 69, of Spotsylvania County died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at Mary Washington Hospital. He was the brother of Virginia Irby of King George County. Other survivors include his wife, Lillie B. Bullock; a daughter, Denise Williams of Spotsylvania; two other sisters, Rachael Newton of Stafford County and Nancy Gavin of Fredericksburg; seven brothers, Charles Bullock, Allan Bullock, Ressie Bullock, Franklin Bullock and Gene A. Bullock, all of Stafford, and John Bullock and Homer Bullock of Spotsylvania; and three grandchildren. A funeral was held today at Found & Sons Funeral Chapels, Fredericksburg. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Randy Newsome officiated.

Minnie Artis 84 years
Minnie Artis, 84, of King George County died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at Elder Care Nursing Home in Charlottesville. Born in North Carolina, Mrs. Artis was a member of Little Ark Baptist Church and was the widow of James Artis. She is survived by a nephew, James Jenkins of King George. A graveside memorial service was held today in Little Ark Baptist Church cemetery in Owens. The Rev. Ben Jones officiated. The body was cremated. Cedell Brooks Funeral Home, Port Royal, handled the arrangements.

Patricia White "Patsy" Warwick 70 years
Patricia White "Patsy" Warwick, 70, of King George County died Saturday, October 6, 2001, at the home of her daughter, Patti Golightly Yon of King George. A native of King George, Mrs. Warwick attended Shiloh Baptist Church and was a member of the Colonial Beach Ladies of the Moose. In addition to her daughter of King George, she is survived by her husband, Floyd Brent "Mickey" Warwick; a son, Jonathan L. Golightly of King George; two sisters, Margaret Golightly of Winchester and Catherine Acey of Culpeper County; two brothers, Gordon White of Hamilton, N.Y., and Marvin White of Lynchburg; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Warwick was also the mother of the late Robert D. Golightly. A funeral was held last Tuesday at Shiloh Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Rev. William Bowler officiated. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to a favorite charity. Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George, handled the arrangements.

Mary Elizabeth Seward 93 years
Mary Elizabeth Seward, 93, of Dunn, N.C., died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001. She was the mother of Robert L. Seward of Colonial Beach The widow of Robert C. Seward, Mrs. Seward previously lived in King and Queen County. She was a member of Oakdale Baptist Church in Benson, N.C. In addition to her son of Colonial Beach, she is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Woodson of Dunn, N.C.; two other sons, John T. Seward of Hendersonville, N.C., and Ernest C. Seward of Georgetown, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. A funeral was held last Wednesday at Vincent Funeral Home in West Point. Burial was in Olivet Baptist Church Cemetery in Shanghai.
