Jean Elizabeth Brundage 83
Jean Elizabeth Brundage, 83, of King George County died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2002, at Mary Washington Hospital.
She had retired as a secretary from the federal government.
She is survived by three children, Shelley Churchill, Sharon Hughes and Brian Ford; 10 grandchildren, Donnie, Danny and Jessie Jordan, Sean Ford, Timmy, Jerry and Scott Faxon, Cheryl Friend, Mindy Phillips; and nine great-grandchildren.
A funeral was held Sunday, Sept. 8, at Covenant Funeral Service in Fredericksburg. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Charles Ivan Bauguess 78
Charles Ivan Bauguess, 78, of King George County died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Mr. Bauguess was a retired self-employed brick mason.
Survivors include four daughters, Judy Dupree and Wilma Bauguess of North Carolina, and Melody Bauguess and Tammy Bauguess of King George; a son, Tommy Bauguess of North Carolina; a sister, Ruth Pruitt of North Carolina; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Stafford Memorial Park. Pastor Sherman Davis will officiate.
The family will receive friends tonight, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Stafford Chapel.

Jerry Perkins 76
Geraldine "Jerry" Perkins, 76, a resident of Colonial Beach since 1980, died at her residence Monday, Aug. 12, 2002.
Born in Raleigh, N.C., she had retired as a legal secretary in Hyattsville, Md. and later served as town clerk in Colonial Beach. She was an active member and deacon at Colonial Beach Baptist Church and an active member of the Senior Citizens in Colonial Beach. She was the widow of Thornton V. Perkins.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia Diane and Frank Beall of Glendale, Md., and Gwendolyn Ann and Thomas L. Sunderly of Glenwood, Md.; a sister and brother-in-law, Patsy and Arthur Horsman of Bradenton, Fla.; a grandson, Brian Thomas, and his wife, Deni, of Ellicott City, Md.; and two great-grandchildren, Cameron Brian and Samantha Paige Sunderly of Ellicott City, Md.
A funeral was held Thursday, Aug. 15, at Colonial Beach Baptist Church. Burial was in Historyland Memorial Park in King George County. The Rev. Johnny Almond officiated.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Colonial Beach Baptist Church, Box 27, Colonial Beach, Va. 22443.

Lakresha Benet Joseph 19
Lakresha Benet Joseph, 19, of Laneview died Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, in Essex County. She was the granddaughter of Richard Lomax of King George County.
A 2002 graduate of Essex High School, she was an announcer on the Sunday Morning Inspirational Hour on radio station WRAR. She was employed at Shoney's Restaurant and Essex House Nursing Home.
In addition to her grandfather of King George, Lakresha is survived by her mother, Francine Love; her father, Percy Joseph Jr.; stepfather, Willie Love; three brothers, Michael Joseph, Shawn Joseph and Patrick Joseph; and her grandmother, Frances Tompkins, all of Laneview.
A funeral was held Saturday, Aug. 17, at Essex Intermediate School in Tappahannock. Interment was in Macedonia Baptist Church cemetery in Center Cross. The Rev. Russell B. Smith officiated.
Washington Funeral Home, Tappahannock, handled arrangements.

Pearl Lee Bradshaw Dungan 66
Pearl Lee Bradshaw Dungan, 66, of Montross died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002.
Mrs. Dungan was a member of Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church in Montross and a retired bookkeeper for Dungan Freight Lines.
She is survived by her husband, G. Bernard Dungan; a son, George Dungan III of Norfolk; a daughter, Mary E. Dungan of Fountain Inn, S.C.; two brothers, Edwin F. Bradshaw of Norwalk, Calif. and Cecil Bradshaw; two sisters, Marie Mitchell of Montross and Emmarene Kirby of Charlottesville.
A funeral was held Tuesday, Aug. 20, at Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Andrew Chapel Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Mrs. John M. Branson, Box 574, Montross, Va. 22520; or to The Oncology Center, c/o Rappahannock General Hospital, Box 1149, Kilmarnock, Va. 22482.

Gennaro Anthony Vacca 86
Gennaro Anthony "Gene" Vacca, 86, of Colonial Beach died Friday, Aug. 9, 2002.
Born in Newark, N.J., on Aug. 27, 1915, he was the son of Maria F. DiFranco and Joseph N. Vacca. Mr. Vacca was a graduate of Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J. and Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. He was a widower of his first wife, Nunciata, and second wife, Louise.
Mr. Vacca served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and upon his discharge in 1946, he worked as a design engineer for the Department of the Navy, Bureau of Naval Weapons. In 1963, he joined the newly formed National Aeronautics and Space Administration and continued his engineering at NASA headquarters in Washington. In the latter part of his career, he was the chief of Launch Operations, NASA Office of Manned Space Flights. He continued in this capacity until his retirement upon the completion of the SKYLAB Program.
Upon retirement, Mr. Vacca moved to Colonial Beach, where he became a well-known public school teacher in the Colonial Beach school system. He also continued his public service as a licensed professional engineer and served many years as the Chairman of the Colonial Beach Planning Commission and was twice appointed to the Board of Zoning Appeals.
Mr. Vacca was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church of Colonial Beach, the Colonial Beach Lions Club, and a life member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph Louis and Mary Lee Vacca of Omaha, Neb.; a brother, Louis N. Vacca of Severna Park, Md.; and a grandson, James Charles Vacca of Omaha, Neb.
A funeral mass was held today at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church. Interment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, Box 275, Colonial Beach, Va. 22443.

Jack Edward Rose 60
Jack Edward Rose, 60, of King George County died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Born in Johnstown, Pa., he was a site foreman for Morauer Construction. His father, Jack C. Rose, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Rose of Livonia, Mich.; his wife, Shirley Rose of King George; three sons, Jack Rose Jr., Mark Rose and Mike Rose, all of King George; a sister, Amy Rose of Livonia, Mich.; a brother, Rick Rose of Livonia, Mich.; five granddaughters, Jessica, Nicki, Brittany, Brandi, and Ashley; and his sidekick, Axle (Big Dog).
The funeral was private. The family requests no flowers.

Carolyn S. Miller 77
Carolyn S. Miller, 77, of Spotsylvania County died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at Mary Washington Hospital. She was a former member of Colonial Beach Baptist Church.
Born in Homerville, Ga., she was a legal secretary for her late husband, William Francis Miller. She was a member of Fredericksburg Baptist Church and volunteered at Mary Washington Hospital.
Survivors include two daughters, Lynn M. Bradley of Vienna and Jan Miller of Fredericksburg; four grandchildren, John Bradley of Ontario, Calif., Teresa Bradley of Temple Hills, Md., Pasha Tom Kazemi of McLean, and Joseph Francis Gallegos of Los Lunas, N.M.
A funeral was held Friday, Aug. 9, at Colonial Beach Baptist Church. Burial was in Round Hill Baptist Church cemetery in King George County. The Rev. Patti English and the Rev. Robert D. Higgins officiated.
Memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity.

Terry Lynn Howard 50
Terry Lynn Howard, 50, of Las Vegas, Nev., formerly of Colonial Beach, died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, in Las Vegas.
She was an office manager for the Harley Davidson Cafè in Las Vegas and was a member of the Moose Lodge.
Survivors include her husband, Roland L. Howard Jr. of Las Vegas; a daughter, Lori Anne Howard of Denver, Colo.; a son, Ritchie Howard of Las Vegas; a daughter, Susan Ronnette Seno of Beaufort, S.C.; a son, Shawn Michael Grazier of North Carolina; her father, William M. Rutherford of Colonial Beach; a brother, William Rutherford Jr. of Pensacola, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
A funeral was held Tuesday, Aug. 13, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, Colonial Beach. Burial was in Quantico National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service time Tuesday at the funeral home.

Lonnie D. Byrd Jr. 84
Lonnie D. Byrd Jr., 84, of Virginia Beach and Colonial Beach died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, in Colonial Beach.
Born in Salisbury, N.C., he had retired as a staff sergeant in the Army. He was a World War II and Korean War veteran and received the bronze star in World War II. He was a member of Tidewater REACT 053 and received several honors.
He was the widower of Leslie "Pete" Byrd.
Survivors include a daughter, Anne Bolin of Colonial Beach; a son, Lonnie D. Byrd III of Newport News; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A military memorial service will be held at Fort Monroe at a later date.
