Brian MckinLey 19
Brian McKinley, 19-year-old son of Russell and Bertha Peyton of Oak Grove and Johnny McKinley of Thomasville, Ala., departed this life Saturday, July 27, 2002.
Brian was born in Richmond on Feb. 22, 1983. He was a member of the Little Zion Baptist Church in Oak Grove, where he had served on the Junior Usher Board. Brian graduated from Washington and Lee High School in June, 2001. While there, he was a member of the football team, the track team and was an avid weightlifter. In football, he was awarded first-team All-Northern Neck District and Region A Honorable Mention. Brian had a vibrant personality and had many friends.
He leaves to cherish his memory his parents, Russell and Bertha Peyton and Johnny McKinley; a daughter, Brianna Rich; a special friend, Shawnika Rich; his grandparents, Corrine Peyton of Oak Grove and Annie Johnson of Fredericksburg; two brothers, Johnny McKinley Jr. of New York and Jonathan Murphy of Chandler, Ariz.; two sisters, Juanita Brown of Orlando, Fla., and Travey Smith of Detroit; and a host of aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
A funeral will be held at Little Zion Baptist Church, Oak Grove, on Thursday at 1 p.m. The viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday.
A youth counseling session called "How to Handle Grief" will be held at 7 p.m. this evening at the church, with the Rev. Micah Jackson speaking along with other area youth pastors and counselors.
Weldon-Fisher Funeral Home, Nomini Grove, is in charge of arrangements.

Austin Robert Kelly 6
Austin Robert Kelly, 6, of Fredericksburg died Friday, July 26, 2002, at Pitts' Pond in Caroline County. His family had many friends in King George County.
Austin was a member of Spotswood Baptist Church. He was a student at Fredericksburg Christian School, where he would have been in first grade this fall. Austin played on soccer and tee-ball teams in Spotsylvania County. He loved to go swimming.
Survivors include his parents, Bob and Tina Kelly; one sister, Victoria; two brothers, Tyler and Benjamin; his paternal grandparents, George R. and Geneva Kelly of Pennington Gap, Va.; his maternal grandparents, Ford and Jennie McCuistion of Scottsboro, Ala.; maternal great-grandmother, Nannie Gang of Rockwood, Tenn.; maternal great-grandparents, Ford and Nelle McCuistion of Rockwood, Tenn.; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A funeral was held Tuesday, July 30, at Spotswood Baptist Church. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Jim Stone officiated.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Spotswood Baptist Church Preschool Children's Education Building Fund, 4009 Lafayette Blvd., Fredericksburg, Va. 22408.

Mary Catherine Burch Ham 76
Mary Catherine Burch Ham, 76, of King George County died Friday, July 26, 2002, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Born in Washington, D.C., Mrs. Ham graduated from St. Cecilia's Academy. She worked at Muncie Bank in Washington and raised seven children in Woodbridge. Mrs. Ham later moved to Colonial Beach and then to King George. She was the widow of Arthur Ray Ham.
Mrs. Ham was truely the wind beneath the wings of many and will be deeply and greatly missed.
Survivors include seven children, Donna McGee, Ray Ham, Gary Ham Sr., Katie Pursley, Dixie Overfelt, Perry Ham, and Jennie Carroll; 12 grandchildren, Dottie Scott, Renee Cox, Gary Ham Jr., Ricky Ham, Kathleen Carroll, Tabitha Ham, Teresa Ham, Zachary Carroll, Andrea Ham, David Heath, Paul Farrow, and Tara Farrow; four great-grandchildren, Allen Cox, Holli Scott, Sidney Scott, and Kyle Cox; a sister, Margie McLaughlin; four nieces and nephews, Lynn Via, Carol Thompson, Scott McLaughlin, and Pat McLaughlin; and seven great-neices and nephews.
A funeral was held Tuesday, July 30, at Little Church, Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood, Md.

Sally Nicholson Brown 92
Sallie Nicholson Brown, 92, of Dahlgren died Saturday, July 27, 2002, at Mary Washington Health Care in Colonial Beach.
Born at Stuarts Wharf in King George County, Mrs. Brown loved to cook and garden. She was the widow of Earl Brown.
Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by a son, Earl Vernon Brown; and a grandson, Earl Byron Brown.
Survivors include a daughter, Undine B. McElroy of Colonial Beach; two sisters, Lou Mindell of Columbia, S.C. and Mary Petti of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; two grandchildren, Sandra McElroy Hoyer and Lelia Ann Brown Wentz; and three great-grandchildren, Stuart Christian Hoyer, James Lee Wentz, and Dolly Marie Wentz.
A funeral was held Wednesday, July 31, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home in King George. Interment was in the Oakland Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. William Price officiated.

Theda S. Wintermoyer 82
Theda S. Wintermoyer, 82, of Charles Town, W.Va., died Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg. She was the mother of Theda W. Lane and mother-in-law of Mrs. Lane's husband, David L. Lane, both of King George County.
Born in Mathias, W.Va., Dec. 3, 1919, Mrs. Wintermoyer was the widow of Harry Fulton Wintermoyer, who died in 1977. She was the daughter of the late Loy Stultz and Sadie Dispanet Stultz.
In addition to her daughter and son-in-law of King George, Mrs. Wintermoyer is survived by a sister, Viola Branner of Timberville; a brother, Ruel Stultz of Mathias; three grandchildren, Anne Van Lenten, David Lane and Holly Lane; and one great-grandchild, Lane V. Van Lenton. She was predeceased by a sister, Wilma Jenkins, and a brother, Guy Stultz.
Mrs. Wintermoyer taught school for 24 years in Jefferson County, W.Va., and 12 years in Clarke and Fairfax counties. She was a member of Charles Town Presbyterian Church and was a graduate of Mathias High School and Shepherd College.
She was a member of the West Virginia and Jefferson County Retired Teachers Associations and did volunteer work at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, the Old Opera House and helped prepare tax returns for the elderly.
A funeral was held Monday, July 22, at Charles Town Presbyterian Church. Burial was in Edge Hill Cemetery in Charles Town. The Rev. Richard Halverson officiated.
Memorial contributions may be made to Charles Town Presbyterian Church, 220 E. Washington St., Charles Town, W.Va. 25414.

Betty Louise Wingo 68
Betty Louise Wingo, 68, of Fredericksburg died Friday, July 19, 2002. She was the sister of Larry Buchanan of King George County.
Born Sept. 9, 1933, Mrs. Wingo was the widow of the late Carl H. Wingo. She was retired from the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Buchanan Jr. and her parents, Robert Arthur Buchanan Sr. and Susie Clift Buchanan.
In addition to her brother of King George, Mrs. Wingo is survived by a daughter, Kimberly O'Brien of Spotsylvania County; two sons, Richard A. Monteiro of Heathsville and Mark R. Monteiro of Stafford County; a step-daughter, Lynne Batiz of North Carolina; two sisters, Carol Baker of Fredericksburg and Lynn Roles of Stafford; two other brothers, Bradley Buchanan of Spotsylvania, and Storm Buchanan of Stafford; and four grandchildren.
A funeral was held Tuesday, July 23, at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel. Interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Stafford. The Rev. Charles Leonard officiated.

John T. Steward 73
John T. Steward, 73, of King George County died Thursday, July 18, 2002, at his residence.
Mr. Steward retired from the Quantico Marine Base as a heavy equipment mechanic. He was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in King George and a member of the Deacon Board. He also regularly attended St. Stephen's Baptist Church in King George.
He was predeceased by two sons, John T. Steward Jr. and Gary E. Steward.
Survivors include his wife, Rosetta Coakley Steward of the home; one son, Nathaniel G. Steward of Jacksonville, N.C.; four sisters, Bernice Coleman and Evelyn M. Johnson, both of Spotsylvania County, Frances Faison of Baltimore, Md., and Marian C. Nelson of Washington, D.C.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral was held Monday, July 22, at St. Stephen's Baptist Church in King George. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Rev. Anthony M. Jones and the Rev. Everett Gray officiated.

Charles Parker Shaw 97
Charles Parker Shaw, 97, of Colonial Beach died Saturday, July 20, 2002, at the home of his grandson, Bruce Shaw.
Mr. Shaw had retired as a machinist from the Naval Surface Warfare Center and was a member of Bayview Baptist Church. He was the widow of Anna Pearl Shaw and was preceded in death by a son, James P. Shaw.
In addition to his grandson, survivors include a son, Charles W. Shaw of Florida; four grandchildren, Linda Hamil of Savannah, Ga., David and John Shaw of Florida, and Michael Shaw of California; and a special friend and caregiver, Erdene Hiller.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, July 23, at the chapel of Storke Funeral Home in Bowling Green. Burial was in Historyland Memorial Park in King George County.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Mary Washington Hospice, 2300 Fall Hill Avenue, Fredericksburg, Va. 22401.

Alfred Jennings Burell 88
Alfred Jennings Burrell "Chuck" Ritter, 88, of Colonial Beach died Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Born in Folsom, W.Va., Mr. Ritter entered the Navy in 1930 and saw duty in Hawaii, Panama and the embassies in London, Scotland and Northern Ireland. He participated in the Normandy Invasion and his final tour of duty was on the USS Williamsburg, President Harry Truman's yacht.
Shortly after, he returned to duty for three years during the Korean War and was a recruiter in Washington. Later he worked for the federal government for 17 years.
Mr. Ritter was a member of the Lions Club, the American Legion and the United Methodist Men. He was past president of both the Lions and United Methodist Men.
Survivors include his wife, Corinne S. Ritter; a son, Robert Ritter of Maryland; a daughter and son-in-law, Corinne and Thomas E. Cox III of Panama City Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Virginia Adams of West Virginia and Delores Kessley of California; three granddaughters, Heather Cox of Panama City Beach, Erinn Seimer of Orlando, Fla., and Corinne Cox of Knoxville, Tenn.; and two great-grandsons, Zachery and Hayden Witherspoon of Knoxville.
A funeral was held Sunday, July 21, at Colonial Beach United Methodist Church. The Rev. Louis Martin officiated. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Colonial Beach United Methodist Church, Box 189, Colonial Beach, Va. 22443; or to the Colonial Beach Rescue Squad, 225 Dennison St., Colonial Beach, Va. 22443.

Nadine Allison Ludwig 91
Nadine Allison Ludwig, 91, of Colonial Beach died Thursday, June 13, 2002, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Born in Middleburg, Mrs. Ludwig was a member of Lower Brandywine Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, Del., and attended Colonial Beach Baptist Church.
She was the widow of Francis Earl Ludwig.
Survivors include four daughters, Jo Justis of Colonial Beach, with whom Mrs. Ludwig made her home, Frankie Reynolds of Perryville, Ark., Joan A. Stadelman-Walker of Wilmington and Connie Taylor of Parksley; three sons, John F. Ludwig of Wilmington, Frank B. Ludwig of Lexington Park, Md. and Rege Ludwig of Palm Desert, Calif.; a sister, Novilla Barnes of Marina Valley, Calif.; a brother, John Allison of Long Beach, Calif.; 21 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Saturday, July 20, at Colonial Beach Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. Johnny Almond officiated.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Colonial Beach Rescue Squad, 225 Dennison St., Colonial Beach, Va. 22443; or to the American Cancer Society, c/o Trudy Clifton, 113 Tallpines Ave., Locust Grove, Va. 22508.
