Jeanette M. West 83
Jeannette M. West, 83, of King George County died Thursday, May 22, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Born in Park Ridge, Ill., she was the mother of William C. West Jr. of Chicago and the grandmother of Cristianna J. West of Columbia, Md.
The family received friends Sunday, May 25, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home in King George.

Robert N. Pearson 61
Robert N. Pearson, 61, of Columbus, Ga., formerly of Colonial Beach, died Tuesday, May 20, 2003, at his residence.
Mr. Pearson was a Vietnam veteran, having received the nation's third highest combat decoration, the Silver Star, for gallantry in Vietnam. In addition, he was awarded the Bronze Star for valor with first oak leaf cluster; the Army Commendation Medal for valor with the first oak leaf cluster; and the Purple Heart.
Survivors include two daughters, Robin Williams of Killeen, Texas, and Carolyn Pearson of Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers, Herbert Hickman of Kilmarnock and Melvin Pearson of Kansas City, Mo.; four sisters, Beatrice Pearson of Baltimore, Md., Lucille Pearson, Doris Pearson and Annette Purce, all of Fredericksburg; and two grandchildren.
The family received friends Monday, May 26, at Progressive Funeral Home in Columbus, Ga. A graveside service was held Tuesday, May 27, in Fort Benning National Cemetery in Columbus.

Edna H. Ritchie
Edna Houchin Ritchie, 87, of Orange County, formerly of Spotsylvania and King George counties, died Sunday, May 25, 2003, at Orange County Nursing Home.
She was born in Koscisko, Ind., on Aug. 13, 1915.
Preceding her in death were her parents, William N. Houchin and Bertha O. Houchin; and her husband, Richard Ritchie. She is survived by two sons, Rodney N. Ritchie of Gordonsville and George W. Ritchie of Fredericksburg; a daughter, Cecil A. Graves of Belmont; brothers William Harold Houchin of Rollins Fork and Henry Kenneth Houchin of Fredericksburg; seven grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held today in Mount Hermon Baptist Church cemetery in Spotsylvania.
Johnson Funeral Home, Locust Grove, handled arrangements.

Reba G. Palmer 83
Reba G. Palmer, 83, of King George County died Sunday, May 18, 2003, at Mary Washington Hospital. She was the widow of Horace Raymond Palmer.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara J. Phillips of King George; three grandchildren, Melvin Phillips of Blue Springs, Mo., Loretta Freudiger of Cincinnati, Ohio, and David Phillips of Dahlgren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Saturday, May 24, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at Sealston in King George County.
Memorial contributions may be made to Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Sealston, Va. 22547.

Margaret G. Lennon 80
Margaret G. Lennon, 80, of Colonial Beach died at her residence Friday, May 16, 2003.
A Colonial Beach native, she was a homemaker and former federal employee at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division. She was a member of Colonial Beach United Methodist Church and was the widow of Eugene J. Lennon.
Survivors include a daughter, Beth Lennon Stephan, and a son-in-law, Robert Stephan, of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sons, Gerry Lennon of Falmouth and Jeff Lennon of Tucson, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Andrew Stephan, Nicole Stephan and Daniel Stephan, all of Cincinnati; and her longtime caregiver, Brenda Turner.
A graveside service was held Tuesday, May 20, in Historyland Memorial Park in King George County. The Rev. Louis Martin officiated.
Memorial donations may be made to Colonial Beach United Methodist Church, Box 189, Colonial Beach, Va. 22443; or to a favorite charity.

Mary H. Garner 93
Mary H. Garner, 93, of Fredericksburg died Tuesday, May 20, 2003. She was the sister of Rebecca DeShazo of King George County.
Mrs. Garner resided at 1200 Kenmore Ave., Apt. 6, for 20 years. She retired from Morganstern Pants Co. in Fredericksburg. She was a member of Community Baptist Church and the widow of Teddy Garner.
In addition to her sister of King George, Mrs. Garner is survived by three sons, Theodore R. Garner Jr., Alvin T. Garner and John H. Garner, all of Stafford County; a daughter, Gloria J. Carrington of Spotsylvania County; a brother, Lewis E. Howard of Stafford; 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, James Garner; a daughter, Betsy A. Johnson; and two grandchildren, Tommy Garner and Tracy "Sally" Baker.
A funeral service was held Friday, May 23, at Covenant Funeral Service in Fredericksburg. Entombment was in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Carol Markham officiated.
Memorials may be made to Community Baptist Church, 44 Lorenzo Drive, Falmouth, Va. 22405.

Hugh Perry Armstrong Jr. 70
Hugh Perry Armstrong Jr., 70, of Colonial Beach died Friday, May 16, 2003, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Mr. Armstrong was a general foreman with Pepco for 32 years, working the underground lines. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in White Plains and enjoyed fishing, woodworking and gardening.
Born in Washington, he was the son of the late Hugh P. Armstrong Sr. and Bertha Elizabeth Steele Armstrong.
Survivors include his wife, Ella Mae Armstrong; five children, Hugh P. Armstrong III of Roseville, Calif., Ronald E. Armstrong of Richmond, James K. Armstrong of LaPlata, Md., Debra Hinson of Waldorf, Md., and Keith A. Armstrong of Waldorf; three stepchildren, Thomas H. Chaney of Accokeek, Md., Timothy W. Chaney of Bladensburg, Md., and Terry A. Chaney of Brandywine, Md.; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard T. Armstrong of Branchland, W.Va.; and his sisters, Mary Gatton of Frederick, Md., Anne Garner of of Union Spring, Ala., and Betty Bean of Maryland.
A funeral was held Wednesday, May 21, at Raymond Funeral Service in LaPlata. Burial was in Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf. Father Aloyisius Newman officiated.
Pallbearers were Hugh Armstrong III, Ronald Armstrong, James Armstrong, Keith Armstrong, and Thomas and Terry Chaney.

Kenneth N. Welch 73
Kenneth N. Welch, 73, of King George County died Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Born in King George, he was a waterman working from Mathias Point. He was a member of Oakland Baptist Church, King George, and was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include two daughters, Robin Meeks and Bonnie May Welch, both of King George; two sons, Larry Welch of Elizabeth City, N.C., and Donnie Welch of King George; two sisters, Sandra Goerlitz of King George and Judy Courtney of Aiken, S.C.; a brother, Walter Merrill Welch of King George; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral was held Friday, May 16, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home in King George. Burial was in Oakland Baptist Church cemetery. The Rev. Sherman Davis and the Rev. Guy Mattox Jr. officiated.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dahlgren Rescue Squad, Box 1375, Dahlgren, Va. 22448.

Demitra Siadys Murphy 59
Demitra Siadys Murphy, 59, of Montross, died Tuesday, May 13, 2003.
Mrs. Murphy was a member of St. Timothy Catholic Church, a retired computer documentation technician for Northrop Grumman and a member of Moose Lodge 2333.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas S. Murphy; two daughters, Lacynda Mathes of Sterling, Ill., and Tammy Herbert of Montross; one sister, Cynda Childs of Rockland, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral was held Friday, May 16, at St. Timothy's Catholic Church in Tappahannock. Interment was Monday, May 19, in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Wheaton, Md.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Scleroderma Foundation, the Greater Washington D.C. Chapter, 2010 Corporate Ridge, 7th Floor, McLean, Va. 22102.

John Truett Garren IV 20
John Truett "J.T." Garren IV, 20, of Florida, died Saturday, May 10, 2003. He was the brother of Michael Rector and his wife, Tricia, and their children, Shyanna and Dylan, all of Colonial Beach.
Mr. Garren was born March 2, 1983. He was a loving son, brother, grandson, cousin, nephew and a friend to everyone in his life.
In addition to his family of Colonial Beach, Mr. Garren is survived by his grandparents, Robert and Patricia Evans, and numerous, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Debra and John Garren III.
A celebration of Mr. Garren's life was held Thursday, May 15, at Flamingo Road Church in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. A funeral was held Saturday, May 16, at Georgia Memorial Park in Marietta, Ga.

Joseph Eugene Cole 73
Joseph Eugene Cole, 73, of Fredericksburg died Friday, May 16, 2003, at Mary Washington Hospital. He was the father of Catherine S. Eaton and her husband, Donnie, of King George County.
Mr. Cole had been in the construction trade his entire life, and was co-owner of Porter and Cole Inc. In addition, he was vice president and consultant to Cole's Excavating Inc. He was also an Army veteran, having served in the Korean War.
Mr. Cole was preceded in death by his wife, Anna C. Cole. In addition to his dauther and son-in-law of King George, Mr. Cole is survived by another daughter, Jo Ann Cole of Stafford County; three sons, James R. Cole, John S. Cole and David F. Cole and wife Teresa, all of Stafford. Also surviving are three grandsons, Joseph, Louis and David Cole and wife Laura; two great-grandsons, Alex and Bradley Cole; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held today in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel, handled arrangements.
