Johnny Diehl 57
John Arthur "Johnny" Diehl, 57, of Fredericksburg passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at his home. He was the brother of Robert E. "Bobby" Diehl and his wife, Sharon, of Hague.
Born in Fredericksburg, Mr. Diehl had retired from Walter C. Davis & Sons Electrical Contractors after 35 years. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
In addition to his brother and sister-in-law of Hague, Mr. Diehl is survivedby his wife of 33 years, Judith R. Diehl; a son, Spencer Lee Diehl of the home; his mother, Esther Thacker of Fredericksburg; his father, James Vincent Diehl Sr. and stepmother, Patricia, of Lake Lynn, Pa.; three other brothers, James V. Diehl Jr. and his wife, Denise, of Fredericksburg, William R. Diehl and his wife, Jean, of Fredericksburg, and Daniel F. Diehl of Fredericksburg; his sisters, Deborah Martin and her husband, Ricky, of Caroline County, and Dianna
Brown of Germantown, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Monday, April 28, at St. Mary Catholic Church. Entombment was in Sunset Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
Pallbearers were Linwood Thacker, Lionel "Jabo" Johnson, Ross Ritenour, Jim Betke, Irvin Crabbe and Melvin Covington.

Helen B. Cobb, 76, of King George County died at her residence Friday, April 25, 2003, after a long illness.
She was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church, where she was active in the Goodwill Gospel Chorus, the Flower Club, Missionary Society and the Order of Eastern Star, Guiding Star Chapter 216.
Survivors include her son, Jeffrey Cobb of King George; five sisters, Claudia
Smith of Washington, Azeal Whiting and Nancy Winfield, both of Baltimore, and Elizabeth Peyton and Edna Lucas, both of King George; and a brother, Cecil Lucas of Aberdeen, Md.
A funeral will be held Friday, May 2, at 11 a.m. at Good Hope Baptist Church in King George. Burial will follow in the Cobb family Cemetery, King George. The Rev. Robert
Williams Jr. will officiate.
The body may be viewed from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday at Cedell Brooks Funeral Home in Port Royal. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the church.

Bobby Battaile 66
Robert M. "Bobby" Battaile, 66, of Montross died Tuesday, April 22, 2003.
Mr. Battaile was a member of Ephesus Christian Church and a retired farmer.
He is survived by his mother, Elva M. Battaile, one brother, Ben L. Battaile III and his wife, Betty, and one niece, Anne Bayne Battaile, all of Montross. Also surviving are several cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin L. Battaile Jr.
A funeral was held Friday, April 25, at Ephesus Christian Church in Foneswood. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Rawleigh Taylor Rawleigh William Downman Taylor Jr., 82, of Colonial Beach, formerly of Richmond and Orange County, died Friday, April 11, 2003, in Colonial Beach. Born Dec. 31, 1920, in Charlottesville, Mr. Taylor was the son of the late Rawleigh W.D. Taylor Sr. and the late Evelyn S. Taylor. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn P. Taylor, and one son, Rawleigh W.D. Taylor III. Mr. Taylor was a graduate of Woodberry Forest School and Virginia military Institute. He served as a major in the Army in World War II, and he retired from the CIA. He is survived by his wife, Julia T. Taylor of Colonial Beach; one son, John S. Taylor, and his wife, Nancy, of Richmond; four grandchildren, Rawleigh W.D. Taylor IV, John Spencer Taylor Jr., Thomas Vincent Maddi Taylor and Evelyn Marie Taylor, all of Richmond; three stepchildren, Melody Robin Sword and Eurnice Lee Waller, both of Locust Grove, and Jennifer Lynn Pittman of Louisa. Moses C. Poole Moses Clayborne Poole, 57, of Fredericksburg died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at his residence. He was the brother of Ronald F. Poole of King George County. Born in Fredericksburg, Mr. Poole was a picker at Insteel Wire Manufacturers. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church (New Site) in Fredericksburg. In addition to his brother of King George, Mr. Poole is survived by his parents, Moses Poole and Ada Henderson-Poole of Fredericksburg; two daughters, Sheena Parker of Chesapeake and Brittani Poole of Fredericksburg; one son, Nicholas Curry of Washington; two sisters, Gloria Poole-Rollins of Fredericksburg and Sheila L. Poole of Temple Hills, Md.; two other brothers, Franklin O. Poole of Forestville, Md. and Kenneth W. Poole of Woodford; and a devoted friend, Cleo Poole. A Christian wake was held Thursday, April 10, at A.L. Bennett Funeral Home in Fredericksburg. A funeral was held Friday, April 11, at Shiloh Baptist Church (New Site). The Rev. Lawrence A. Willard Miller 88
M. Willard Miller, 88, of Bridgewater, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at his home. He has surviving family in King George County and Colonial Beach. Mr. Miller was born on Saturday, May 9, 1914, in Bridgewater, and was a son of the late Minor W. Miller Sr. and Nellie Bowman Miller. He was a graduate of Bridgewater High School, class of 1932, attended Bridgewater College for one year, and received a B.S. degree from Virginia Tech in 1940. He worked for Virginia Agriculture Extension Service, working in several counties as county agent. In 1948 he started dairy farming in Spotsylvania County, where his son is operating the farm now. He was a member of the Ruritan Club for over 44 years, and served on the Spotsylvania school board for a number of years, as well as other county activities. He served on the Virginia Farm Bureau; Virginia State Dairymen's Association; Warrenton Farm Credit Board; and Southern States regional board of directors for 21 years, vice chairman three years and chairman three years. He was active at Zoan Baptist Church, serving as deacon, Sunday school teacher, superintendent of Sunday school and other church activities. In 1994, he moved from Spotsylvania to Bridgewater Retirement Community, taking part in many activities, including association president for two years. After moving to Bridgewater, he became a member of the Bridgewater Church of the Brethren. On June 1, 1944, he was united in marriage to Josephine Miller, who survives. Surviving in addition to his wife and are four children and their spouses, Carolyn M. and Thomas Chewning of Locust Grove, Wayne W. and Jo Ann Miller of Locust Grove, Sharyn M. and Bob Halpin of King George and Jere and Dawn Miller of Spotsylvania; two brothers, Horace Miller of Charlottesville and Ray Miller of Ashland; one sister, Arlene Miller

Ruth V. Lucas, 92, of Montross died Friday, April 4, 2003, at Tappahannock Manor Adult Center. She leaves to cherish her legacy and memories two loving and devoted sisters, Frances E. Wright of Montross and Rebecca Ferguson of Washington; one brother-in-law, Louis Ferguson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and family members. Lessie Hayes, 91, of Colonial Beach died Saturday, April 5, 2003, at Mary Washington Hospital. Mrs. Hayes was a member of New Monrovia Baptist Church at Colonial Beach. Survivors include two sons, Robert F. Hayes and Dan S. Hayes, both of Colonial Beach; two daughters, Rosa Hayes of Colonial Beach and Joyce Morris of King George County; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Richard Joseph Balmaz, 34, of Spotsylvania County, formerly of Colonial Beach, died Thursday, April 10, 2003, at Fauquier Hospital. A 1986 graduate of Colonial Beach High School, Mr. Balmaz was employed as a production manager for Bond Enterprises Inc. He is survived by his loving wife, Pamela Lutman Balmaz; two adored daughters, Eden Nichole and Autumn Noelle; and one stepson, Michael Eugene Bruce. He was a beloved and precious son of Leslie and Windsor Mendenhall and Felix and Monica Balmaz. He is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Grace Brown; his paternal grandmother, Rose Balmaz; his stepgrandfather, Frank Pavlik; a brother, Felix Douglas Balmaz, and his wife, Amy; two nieces; one nephew; three stepsisters, Julie Mendenhall, Betsy Dill and Bonnie West; two aunts, Denyse Cedarburg, and her husband, Owen, and Betty Guiltner, and her husband, Jay. David E. Robey Jr., 88, of King George County died Thursday, April 3, 2003, at his home.
He was born in Alexandria, and was self-employed. He was a member of Elks, Moose, Eagles, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Old Dominion Boat Club in Alexandria, and was a World War II Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Helen J. Robey of the home; a stepdaughter, Marcia Watz of Colonial Beach; a grandson, Michael
Powell of King George; and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral was held Monday, April 7, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home in King George. Interment was in Quantico National Cemetery.

Christine "Kitty" Martin Moore, 83, of Fredericksburg died Friday, April 4, 2003, at Carriage Hill Nursing Home. She was the mother of Wayne Moore and his wife, Joyce, of King George County.
Mrs. Moore was the widow of Roland W. Moore. She was a retired floral designer from Radcliff Florist in Richmond, and a member of Fairmont Christian Church in Mechanicsville.
In addition to her son and daughter-in-law of King George, Mrs. Moore is survived by one grandson, C. Shawn Moore and his wife, Sherry, of Duffield; two stepgrandchildren, Timothy Eutsler and Shawn Eutsler, both of Fredericksburg; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Grace Bagby of Fredericksburg; and three nephews.
A funeral was held Monday, April 7, at Covenant Funeral Service in Fredericksburg. The Rev. Douglas Buckner officiated. Private interment was held Tuesday, April 8, in Signal Hill Memorial Park in Hanover County.
