Franklin W. Green 87
Franklin W. Green, 87, of Fond du Lac, Wis., formerly of King George County, died Saturday, March 15, 2003.
He was born May 8, 1915, in Washington, a son of William B. and Nancy "Nannie" Green.
Franklin grew up in King George and joined the U.S. Navy in 1936. He met and married Agnes while serving in the Navy in New York City. Agnes preceded him in death in October of 1999.
Franklin traveled throughout the world while in the Navy, serving in the Pacific, Atlantic and Mediterranean theatres during World War II and the Korean War. He settled back in King George when he retired from the Navy in 1956. After a few years as a commercial fisherman, Franklin worked as a rural letter carrier for the United States Post Office until his second retirement in 1978. In 1998, he and Agnes relocated to Fond du Lac. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Survivors include his daughter, Patricia McCall, and her husband, Marshall, of Fond du Lac; his sons, Frank Green and his wife, Janice, of Grass Valley, Calif., and Dennis Green and his wife, Linda, of Sterling; five grandchildren, Melinda Voigtman and her husband, Patrick, of Greenville, Wis., Danielle Skupas and her husband David, of Madison, Wis.; Jefferson, Leslie, and Lindsey Green, all of Sterling; three great-grandchildren, Kyle and Kyra Voigtman of Greenville and Antanas Skupas of Madison; one sister, Helen Shaw of King George; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Agnes; and five brothers.
A private family service was held. Entombment was in the Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum in Calvary Cemetery.

Robert Edward Gaines 50
Robert Edward Gaines, 50, of Sumter, S.C., formerly of Fredericksburg, died Monday, March 17, 2003. He was the brother of Evangelist Barbara Camp and her husband Joe L. Camp of Colonial Beach.
Mr. Gaines attended Walker-Grant School and was a graduate of James Monroe High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was the widower of Valerie Gaines.
In addition to his sister and brother-in-law of Colonial Beach, Mr. Gaines is survived by four children, Nicky Gaines, Robin Gaines, Angel King and Andre King; his mother, Bertha P. Gaines of Fredericksburg; a brother, Ricky Gaines of Woodbridge; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and friends.
A funeral was be held Saturday, March 22, in Sumter, S.C.
Williams Funeral Home, Sumter, handled arrangements.

Clara Adelman 88
Clara Adelman, 88, of King George County died Monday, March 17, 2003, at Beverly Health Care at Fredericksburg.
Survivors include her daughter, Lillie Dellinger of King George; a sister, Beatrice Toomey of Morganton, N.C.; two grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Thursday, March 20, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in King George. Commital of ashes was in Historyland Memorial Park in King George. The Rev. Thomas Vander Woude officiated.

Don Redding /A
A service celebrating the life of Donald Wayne "Don" Redding will take place Saturday, March 22, 2003, at 2 p.m. on the family's land, "Sanctuary," located off Stove Hill Road (Route 609) in Amherst, Va. The service will be followed by a casual reception at the home of Nancy Gripp next door to "Sanctuary." The service will be held in a field that is very important to the family and to Redding, as it is where he was married. Please dress appropriately.
In lieu of gifts to the family, the family requests that memorial donations be made to either Sena Foundation (www.sena.org), 108 South Main St., Bowling Green, Va. 22427; or the Medical Assistance Program-Salvation Army, Box 296, Charlottesville, Va. 22902, Attn: Drew Yeannakis. (Please write "In memory of Don Redding" on the check to ensure the donation is applied to the right program). Sena is an organization that helps people dealing with grief and loss, of which Redding and his wife had been members since its inception in the Fredericksburg area in 1985. The Medical Assistance Program-Salvation Army provided much-needed help and peace of mind during Redding's illness.

Anna Mary "Ann" McGann 71
Anna Mary "Ann" McGann, 71, of Stafford County died Friday, March 14, 2003, at Mary Washington Hospital. She was the mother of Jan Coleman of King George County.
Mrs. McGann was a school bus driver for Stafford County schools for 12 years, a member of Mount Ararat Baptist Church and a charter life member of Rock Hill Volunteer Fire Department. Her lifetime devotion was to her family as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was also known as a talented seamstress.
In addition to her daughter of King George, Mrs. McGann is survived by her husband, Peter James McGann Sr.; two other daughters, Lynn Weeks and her husband, Lawrence, of Stafford, and Andrea Pinkston and her husband, Roger, of Stafford; her sons, Peter James McGann Jr. and his wife, Cindy, of Stafford, and John McGann and his wife, Cindy, of Stafford; a devoted nephew, Bill Lindemuth and his wife, Linda, of Springfield; 21 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; her brothers, Elmer Ishman of Tampa, Fla., and Charles Ishman of Rochester, N.Y.; her sisters, Kay McGann of Nichols, S.C., and Shirley Brocious of Bradford, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Irene Ishman, and a sister, Patricia Lindemuth.
A funeral was held Monday, March 17, at Mount Ararat Baptist Church Family Life Center. Burial was in Stafford Memorial Park. The Rev. Aubrey D. Whitten Jr. officiated.
Memorials may be made to Mount Ararat Baptist Church, 65 Toluca Road, Stafford, Va. 22554; or to the Rock Hill Volunteer Fire Department, Box 135, Ruby, Va. 22545.

Red Hudson 91
Emerson M. "Red" Hudson, 91, of King George County died Saturday, March 15, 2003, at the home of his granddaughter.
He was born Jan. 12, 1912, in King George to the late Laura Miles and Pierce Montgomery Hudson.
He was employed at the FMC cellophane plant on Tidewater Trail for more than 26 years. He also worked part time for the Fredericksburg Auto Auction, until he retired after 32 years at the age of 89. He was an avid NASCAR fan and loved golf. He was a member of Grace Memorial Church, Fredericksburg, Elks Lodge No. 875, Knights of Pythias Lodge No. 22 and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 1655.
He is survived by a stepson, Edward Hall of Port Charlotte, Fla.; four grandchildren, Garry Dillard of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Sandra Mitchell of Richmond and Jeffrey Dillard and Brenda Withers of Fredericksburg, as well as her husband, Robert W. Withers; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris M. Hudson.
A graveside funeral service was held today in Oak Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Harlan E. White officiated.

Harry E. Darr, Jr. 71
Harry E. Darr Jr, 71, of King George County died Saturday, March 15, 2003, at Mary Washington Hospital.
He loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. He enjoyed spending time with his dog, Rusty. He had many jobs throughout his life. He was a carpenter, airline mechanic and painter. He loved carving and was a member of Local 1078 of the Carpenters union. Besides his love of the outdoors, he also cared deeply about his family. Putting his trade to work, he built his home and many of his children's homes. He was especially proud of the work at the Army-Navy Country Club and Mary Washington Hospital.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Joyce L. Darr of King George; four daughters and their husbands, Patty and Fred T. Sullivan Jr. of Stafford County, Cathy and Ronnie Hall of King George, Susie and Dennie Peregory of Stafford and Amby and Keith Taylor of Lumberton, N.C.; two sons, Harry E. "Billy" Darr III of Manheim, Pa., and Michael Darr and his wife, Wendy, of King George; eight grandchildren, Fred T. Sullivan III, Quintin Sullivan, Dianna Baughman, Neil Darr, Travis K. Taylor, Troy K. Taylor, Sarah Beth Darr and Sean Michael Darr; and eight great-grandchildren, Kitty, Tori, Ren, Kember, Joseph, Logan, Mason and Gavin.
A memorial service was held Monday, March 17, at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel in Fredericksburg. Interment was in Asheville, N.C., where he was born.

Elizbeth "Dolly" Bradshaw 60
Elizabeth "Dolly" Bradshaw, 60, of Colonial Beach passed away Monday, March 10, 2003, at her home.
Survivors include her husband, Daniel W. Bradshaw; two daughters, Renee Rodgers and Kimberly Van Houten; a son, Steven Bradshaw; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Saturday, March 15, at the Bradshaws' home.

Donald Wayne Redding 55
Donald Wayne Redding, 55, of Amherst County passed from this life in the early morning hours this past Friday, March 7. He was the father of Joseph R. Thompson and son-in-law Anna T. Gaborow, both King George County.
Mr. Redding had a long, difficult two-year struggle with cancer, and his family seeks solace in knowing that his pain has finally come to an end. He and his wife, Barbara Jane Gaborow, moved to Amherst County three years ago from the Fredericksburg area, where they both were raised and had resided for the majority of their lives.
He was a master electrician and electrical contractor for his own company, Metron Limited, and intermittently for other contractors. He was last employed by Basic Electric and worked in Lynchburg. He was a veteran of the Vietname War. He and his wife studied Reiki, and he was a level-two Reiki practitioner.
He was the son of the late Vernon Clifford Campbell Redding and the late Elsie Irene Pittington Clark Redding, both formerly of King George. In addition to his son and mother-and-law of King George, Mr. Redding is survived by his life partner, best friend and wife, Barbara Jane Gaborow of Amherst; one sister and brother-in-law, Linda Elaine Erwin and J.R. Erwin of Southport, N.C.; his brother-in-law and his life partner, Stephen Gaborow and Suzan Stafford of Columbia, S.C.; and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews: John and Lisa Walsh and their children, Garrett, Breanna and Jayden, all of Orrtanna, Pa.; Stacey Lynn and David Carper and their children, Elaine and D.J., all of Fuquay Varina, N.C.; and Tabatha Walsh and her son, Andrew Tyler, and Ricky McDermott, all of Southport, N.C.
He was loved tremendously by his family and those around him. He will be missed terribly, but he will also live on in the hearts and souls of those he touched while here with us.
Memorial services will be conducted at a later date.
Lomax Funeral Home, Buena Vista, is handling arrangements.

Mary Louise Norwood N/A
Mary Louise Norwood died Saturday, March 1, 2003, in Waldorf, Md. She was the sister of Gertrude Ferrell of King George County.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldred E. Norwood, and her son, Robert L. Norwood.
In addition to her sister of King George, she is survived by one son Gilbert E. Norwood, and his wife, Babs; four grandchildren, Wade, Gilbert Jr. and David Norwood and Robin Davis; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Thursday, March 6, at Round Hill Baptist Church in King George.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Charles County, Box 1703, La Plata, Md. 20646; or to Round Hill Baptist Church, Box 467, King George, Va. 22485.
