Irma B. Merryman 64
Irma B. Merryman, 64, of King George County passed away at her home Wednesday, March 5, 2003, after a long battle with cancer.
Mrs. Merryman was born in Louisa County and resided in King George for the past 42 years. She retired from Mary Washington Hospital after many years of service, was an avid volunteer and a past member of the Dahlgren and Bowling Green Rescue Squads.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Robert Merryman of King George; four sons, Dennis James Merryman of Brightwood, Robert Alan Merryman and Douglas Wayne Merryman of Spotsylvania County and Stephen A. Merryman of Auburn, Ala.; two sisters, Verna B. Sorrell of Spotsylvania and Cheryl B. Burkhalter of Stafford County; four brothers, Basil R. Burruss and Robert L. Burruss of Spotsylvania, George W. Burruss of Richardsville and John T. Burruss of Spotsylvania; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She donated her body to the Virginia State Anatomical Program.
The family asks that memorial contributions be sent to the American Cancer Society, c/o Sonja Gallahan, 5504 Igo Road, King George, Va. 22485
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.

Elsie Rollins Elliott 92
Elsie Rollins Elliott, 92, of King George County died Saturday, March 8, 2003, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Born in King George, she was the former co-owner and operator of Capt. Sam's Seafood. She was a longtime member of Round Hill Baptist Church in King George.
She is survived by her son and his wife, Bernard L. "Mike" and Elizabeth Elliott of King George; two sisters, Estelle Barber of Okeechobee, Fla., and Fannie E. Irish of Port Tobacco, Md.; a granddaughter and her husband, Donna and Robert Hill; two great-grandchildren, Tony and Laurie Hill; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held today at Round Hill Baptist Church in King George. Interment was in the church cemetery. The Rev. Ted James officiated.
Memorial contributions may be made to Round Hill Baptist Church, Box 467, King George, Va. 22485.

Carol M. Bolton 50
Carol M. Bolton, 50, of King George County died Thursday, March 6, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond.
Carol, a graduate of Strayer University, worked for the Department of Defense in Quantico for 15 years. At the time of her death she was employed by the NAVSEA Surface Warfare Center Division in Indian Head, Md.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Bolton of King George; three children, Marlene Miranda of Dale City, Charles Miranda of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Matthew Miranda of Richmond; her mother, Margaret Engle of Dale City; two brothers, Richard Bailey and Anthony Engle, both of Dale City; four sisters, Liz Zimbro of Dale City and Jennifer Semler, Valerie Bailey and Victoria Bailey, all of Maryland; and one grandchild, her pride and joy, Trent Alexander Miranda of Fairbanks.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 10, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Mountcastle Funeral Home, 4143 Dale Blvd. in Dale City.
A funeral was held on Tuesday, March 11 at Mountcastle Funeral Home in Dale City. Interment was in Mount Comfort Cemetery.

Mary Ruth Edwards Bianchi 76
Mary Ruth Edwards Bianchi, 76, of Annandale died Thursday, March 6, 2003. She had familial ties to King George County.
She was the beloved wife of Peter J. Bianchi; loving mother of Lenny, Ronny and Debbie Bianchi; loving grandmother of Erika Bianchi and of Rebecca Gregory and her husband, Shawn; and loving great-grandmother of Olivia Gregory. She also leaves her beloved daughers-in-law, Karen Bianchi and Debbie Bianchi.
She was the daughter of John and Maude Edwards of King George. She is also survived by her sisters Olive King and Nancy Louise Harris, brothers George and Edgar Edwards, and many loving nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Saturday, March 8 at Shiloh Baptist Church in King George. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society, c/o Trudy Clifton, 113 Tallpines Ave., Locust Grove, Va. 22508, or the Alzheimer's Association, 2217 Princess Anne St., Suite 106-1F, Fredericksburg, Va. 22401.

Audrey W. Murray 74
Audrey W. Murray, 74, of Partlow died Sunday, March 2, 2003, at Mary Washington Hospital. She was the mother of Jeff Murray of King George County.
Mrs. Murray had retired as a secretary for the defense industry. She was a member of the Wives of Retired Officers at Quantico, the Newcomers Club and the Woman's Club of Fredericksburg.
In addition to her son of King George, Mrs. Murray is survived by her husband, Hank Murray; a daughter, Diane Taggart of Stafford County; a brother, Jim Warters of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and three grandchildren.
A funeral will be private.
Memorials may be made to Mary Washington Hospice, 2300 Fall Hill Ave., Suite 210, Fredericksburg, Va. 22401.

Alvin V. Mountford 90
Alvin Victor Mountford, 90, of Colonial Beach died at his home Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003.
Born July 27, 1912, in East Liverpool, Ohio, Mr. Mountford had retired as a Church of the Nazarene minister in 1977. His last church was in Alexandria. He had previously ministered in Pennsylvania and New York and had been pastor emeritus of Colonial Beach United Methodist Church for the past 26 years. For the last 11 years, he taught the adult Sunday school class there. He was an avid active ham radio operator and a former officer in the Civil Air Patrol.
The widower of Dora B. Mountford, he is survived by nine nephews and 12 nieces.
A funeral was held Saturday, March 1, at Colonial Beach United Methodist Church. Burial was Monday, March 3, in Mount Comfort Cemetery in Alexandria. The Rev. Louis Martin officiated.
Memorial donations may be made to Colonial Beach United Methodist Church, Box 189, Colonial Beach, Va. 22443.

Dr. Isham E. Holmes 82
Dr. Isham Earl Holmes of Colonial Beach, born Sept. 2, 1920, passed away Monday, Feb. 24, 2003.
Dr. Holmes attended the University of Arkansas, then worked his way through medical school at George Washington University in Washington. He served as a Navy doctor during World War II.
He later settled in the Shenandoah Valley, where he was chief radiologist at Waynesboro Community Hospital for many years. He was an active member of the Ruritan Club and First Presbyterian Church. Upon retiring to Colonial Beach in 1984, he joined Colonial Beach Baptist Church and was active in the Lions Club.
Dr. Holmes was preceded in death by six siblings born to Steve and Ida Holmes in Wheaton, Mo.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lilly Holmes; two daughters and their husbands, Diane and Leonard Tuchyner of Barboursville and Donna and Phil Whiteway of Ashland; and five grandchildren. A number of nieces and nephews and their families remain in Missouri.
A memorial service was held today at Colonial Beach Baptist Church. Pastor John Almond officiated.
In lieu of gifts to the family, memorial donations may be made to Colonial Beach Baptist Church, Box 27, Colonial Beach, Va. 22443.

Mary Ellen Garland 86
Mary Ellen Garland, 86, of White Oak went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 2, 2003. She was the mother of Dottie Hughes of King George County.
Mrs. Garland was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Arnold "Razor" Garland.
Mr. and Mrs. Garland were founding members of First Bible Baptist Temple. She was a faithful servant of God for more than 40 years, having taught Sunday school for 35 years.
In addition to her daughter of King George, Mrs. Garland is survived by one son, Buddy Garland of Dumfries; three other daughters, Mattie Sisk and Lill McClure, both of Spotsylvania County, and Judy Willetts of Stephens City; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends today from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Covenant Funeral Service in Fredericksburg. A funeral will be held Thursday, March 6, at 1 p.m. at the former site of First Bible Baptist Temple located on U.S. 1 and Mosby Street. Pastor James Cunningham will officiate. Interment will be in Historyland Memorial Park in King George.
Pallbearers will be Alvin Garland, Randy Garland, Ty Donald, Timmy Donald, Michael Hughes, Jimmy Hughes, Rob Garland and Arnold Gordon.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Bible Baptist Temple Building Fund, 1915 Charles St., Fredericksburg, Va. 22401.

Wilda S. Allen 90
Wilda Shaffer Allen, 90, of King George County died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Wilda worked as a transcriber for the Department of Treasury and retired from the Bureau of Public Debt after 20 years.
She is survived by a son, Mark C. Allen, and his wife, Wanda, of King George; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Berlyn E. "Bud" Allen.
The family received friends on Sunday, March 2, at Found & Sons Funeral Chapels in Fredericksburg. A private funeral was held.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the SPCA of Fredericksburg, 1523 Olde William St., Fredericksburg, Va. 22401.

Thomas M. Alexander 73
Thomas Mott Alexander, 73, of Charlotte, N.C., died Sunday, March 2, 2003, at Beverly Healthcare-Renaissance. A lifelong Episcopalian, he had been very active as a lay reader and vestry member at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Owens.
Mr. Alexander was born June 25, 1929, in Charlotte, the son of the late Thomas Mott Alexander and Edith Dumbell Alexander. He retired as a research mathematician from the Naval Surface Weapons Center, Dahlgren Division, after 25 years of service.
Mr. Alexander was a graduate of Virginia Episcopal School in Lynchburg, and received his bachelor and master of science degrees in mathematics and physics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mary F. Alexander; a sister, Sherrod Orvis; and a special cousin, Marjorie Dumbell, all of Charlotte.
A memorial service will be held at Thursday, March 6, at 2 p.m. at St. Martin's Episcopal Church. The Rev. Constance R. Connelly and the Rev. Dr. L. Murdock Smith will officiate. Interment will follow in the church memorial garden.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 1510 East Seventh St., Charlotte, N.C. 28204.
