Charles Kenneth Simensen 81
Charles Kenneth Simensen, 81, of Colonial Beach died at his home Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003.
Born in Perth Amboy, N.J., Mr. Simensen had retired as an ordnance foreman at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member and former acolyte at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Colonial Beach. He was also a member of the Colonial Beach American Legion and NARFE.
Survivors include his wife, Mary E. Simensen; a son, Charles K. Simensen Jr. of Colonial Beach; his granddaughters, Becky Dawn Dye of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Lisa Hubard of Durham, N.C.; and a stepgrandson, Aaron Fisher of Colonial Beach. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynn S. Dye.
A funeral was held Monday, Feb. 24, at St. Mary's Episcopal Church. Burial was in Historyland Memorial Park in King George County. The Rev. Ron S. Okrasinski officiated.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Ursula Oesterwinter, Box 431, Dahlgren, Va. 22448; or to St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Box 420, Colonial Beach, Va. 22443.

Buddy Pritchett, Jr. 56
Roy W. "Buddy" Pritchett Jr., 56, of Locust Grove died unexpectedly at his residence Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003. He was the brother of Joyce P. Hobbs of Hague.
Born in Charlottesville, Mr. Pritchett was employed as a pipeline integrity specialist with the Williams Companies in Unionville, Station 180, for 34 years.
He was a former member of Mine Road Baptist Church in Spotsylvania and the Mine Run Volunteer Fire Department. He served his country in the U.S. Army with the 82nd Airborne during the Vietnam era.
He was the son of the late Roy W. and Lucy Lee Reddish Pritchett.
In addition to his sister of Hague, Mr. Pritchett is survived by his daughters, Wendi P. Wolfrey of Burr Hill and Cindy P. Fayard of Spotsylvania County; a son, Anthony S. Pritchett of Culpeper County; another sister, Anne P. Braden of Mine Run; and his grandchildren, Jackson N. Wolfrey and Parker J. Wolfrey, both of Burr Hill, and Skyler E. Pritchett of Orange County.
A funeral will be held Thursday, Feb. 27, at 11 a.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in Locust Grove. Burial will follow in Mine Road Baptist Church cemetery. The Rev. Peyton Wiltshire will officiate.
The family will receive friends this evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Chewning, Tom Bledsoe, Ronald W. Mason, Jimmy Lee, Tim Rich, Marshall Carter, Milton Kennon and Robbie Gooch.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Mine Run Volunteer Fire Company, 31077 Old Plank Road, Mine Run, Va. 22508.

Myron B. Pollard 51
Myron B. "Manny" Pollard, 51, of Alexandria, formerly of King George County, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at Inova Alexandria Hospital.
Born in King George, he was a camera supervisor for The Washington Post. He was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Alexandria and was a 1970 graduate of King George High School.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Marie Pollard of Alexandria; his father, Carl E. Pollard Sr., and his stepmother, Geraldine, of Kensington, Md.; his mother, Mary P. Johnson, and his stepfather, Ernest Johnson Sr., of King George; six brothers, Thomas, Tyrone and Michael Pollard, all of King George, Carl E. Pollard Jr. of Spotsylvania Countty and Ernest Jr. and Miguel Johnson of King George; two sisters, Thomasine Johnson of Virginia Beach and Vinita Harris of Temple Hills, Md.
A funeral was held Tuesday, Feb. 25, at Salem Baptist Church in Jersey. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Rev. Leonard G. Bland officiated.

Mildred L. Maguire 94
Mildred L. Maguire of Colonial Beach died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at Mary Washington Hospital.
She was born Nov. 11, 1909, at Oak Grove.
Survivors include her husband; two sons; a sister; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter.
A private graveside service was held in Historyland Memorial Park in King George County.

Grace L. Jett 77
Grace Lee Jett, 77, of Paris, Mo., formerly of King George County, passed away at her home Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003.
Mrs. Jett was born March 3, 1925, in King George. She was the daughter of Joseph and Nora L. Dodd Gill.
Mrs. Jett is survived by her husband of 58 years, Ralph; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Wayne Morgan of Lake of the Ozarks; two grandchildren, Jennifer Holohan and Brent Morgan; one great-grandchild, Trenton Morgan; three sisters, Esther Sullivan of Falmouth, Mabel Sullivan and Ruth Brooks, both of Fredericksburg; a great aunt, Fannie Mae Peregoy of King George; and several nieces, nephews and cousins of the Fredericksburg area.
A funeral was held Monday, Feb. 17, in Paris. Burial was in Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Henley D. James 81
Henley D. James, 81, of Colonial Beach, formerly of White Stone, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at Mary Washington Hospital.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. Following his discharge, he was employed by the National Bank of Washington, from which he retired after 30 years.
He is survived by a sister, Virginia J. Ford of Colonial Beach; two nieces, Carolyn D. Ford of Colonial Beach and Cathy F. Sale of Glen Allen; and two great-nieces, Lisa Sale of Charlottesville and Leslie Sale of Glen Allen.
Burial was in White Stone Baptist Church cemetery.

Joe Cox 61
Alfred Delano "Joe" Cox, 61, of King George County died at his home Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003.
Born in Havre de Grace, Md., Mr. Cox was the owner and operator of a Mr. Softee ice cream truck in King George. He was an active member of AA for the last 24 years.
Survivors include his wife, Betty L. Cox; two sons, Joshua I. Cox and Jason T. Cox, both of King George; a brother, Beauford Cox of King George; and a great-niece, Mikayla Mundy, who called him "Poppa Joe."
A funeral was held Saturday, Feb. 22, at the chapel in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Jerry Sullivan gave the eulogy.

Lucille Young Coghill 90
Lucille Young Coghill, 90, of Wicomico Church, formerly of Woodford, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003. She was the mother of Charles E. "Ted" Coghill of King George County.
In addition to her son of King George, she is survived by two other children, Sandra C. Scripture of Wicomico Church and R. Mark Coghill of Mechanicsville; 10 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral was held Saturday, Feb. 22, at Storke Funeral Home in Bowling Green. Burial was in Lakewood Cemetery in Bowling Green.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, c/o William H. Pickett, 13201 Paige Road, Woodford, Va. 22580.

Margaret P. Anderson 86
Margaret Paisley Anderson, 86, of Colonial Beach died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, at her home.
Born in Sugar Grove, she was a retired beautician. She was a member of the Colonial Beach Senior Citizens Group and River of Life Pentacostal Church in Colonial Beach.
She is survived by three daughters, Margaret Patricia Musick and her husband, Tom, of Colonial Beach, Karon Evon Cross and her husband, Bob, of Colonial Beach, and Dama Eudora Woodcock and her husband, Woody, of Richmond; one son, Michael Olynn Anderson and his wife, Paula, of Birmingham, Ala.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several special friends from the Colonial Beach Senior Citizens Group.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, Feb. 25, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home in Colonial Beach. Interment was today in Little Flock Baptist Church cemetery at Amelia Court House. The Rev. Scottie Jackson and the Rev. Johnny Almond officiated.
Memorial contributions may be made to River of Life Pentacostal Church, Box 84, Colonial Beach, Va. 22443.

Thomas W. Warf, Sr. 74
Thomas Wesley Warf Sr., 74, of King George County, formerly of Pulaski County, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Mr. Warf was a World War II Army veteran and a member of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a wife, Nevelin Louise Warf; two sons, Wesley T. Warf Jr. and Thomas Wesley Gregory; five daughters, Patricia Neeson, Nancy Adkins, Gayle Frazier, Debbie Street and Tammy Goodson; three sisters, Linda Cox, Dorothy Reed and Georgia Jenning; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Roscoe.
A funeral will be private.

Arthur L. Thorne 86
Arthur L. Thorne, 86, of Montross died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at the Warsaw Health Care Center.
Mr. Thorne had retired as the town sergeant for the Town of Montross. He was a member of Currioman Baptist Church at Zacata, the Fraternal Order of Police 232, the Montross Landman Lodge 293, A.F. & A.M., and was a veteran of the Merchant Marine.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Yeatman Thorne; a son, Jim Thorne of Montross; two grandchildren, Tracy Thorne and Troy Thorne, both of Tappahannock; two great-grandchildren, Reed Thomas Thorne and Daniel Lucas Thorne, both of Tappahannock; two brothers, Vernon Thorne of Philadelphia, Pa., and Edwin Lee Thorne of Aberdeen, Md.; and one sister, Mildred T. Davenport of Baltimore, Md.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Welch Funeral Home.
