Helen Seaton Preston 91
Helen Seaton Preston, 91, of King George County, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003 at her home.
Born Sept. 10, 1911, and raised in Arlington County, she was the daughter of Charles Harry Seaton, a founder of the Washington Society of Landscape Painters, and Anna Hardt Seaton.
Mrs. Preston graduated from Wellesley College with a degree in chemistry in 1933. She served for many years as the executive secretary of the American Education Association. In the late 1940s, she was voted Washington, D.C.'s Woman of the Year for her work in the improvement of public school education nationwide.
Her husband, the late Steven S. Preston, was a civilian employee of Dahlgren Naval Base, where Mrs. Preston also worked for some time developing educational materials.
Retired for many years, she was an active member of the James Madison Garden Club and the Dahlgren/King George Book Club.
She is survived by her niece, Linda Seaton Beck of West Lafayette, Ind., and by three nephews, Jerome P. Seaton of Pittsboro, N.C., and Alan and David Garner of Falls Church.

James Lloyd Hargrave 56
James Lloyd Hargrave, 56, of Rapidan died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at Culpeper Regional Hospital. He was the brother of Joseph Hargrave and Linda Spillman of King George County.
Born June 30, 1946, in Farmville, Mr. Hargrave was the son of the late Arthur Hargrave.
He was an Army veteran and a member of Louisa United Methodist Church, the Culpeper Moose Lodge and the Culpeper American Legion Post No. 330.
In addition to his brother and sister of King George, Mr. Hargrave is survived by his wife of 27 years, Pamela Carter Hargrave; his mother, Dorothy Havens Hargrave of Stafford County; another sister, Betty Riggs of Sedalia, Mo.; one nephew; and three nieces.
A funeral was held Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Walker's United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The Rev. Forest Porter officiated.

Edna Opal Haid 91
Edna Opal Haid, 91, of Colonial Beach died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Born, Sept. 8, 1911, in Floyd County and raised in Beckley, W.Va., she retired from Woodmont Center as a nurse's aide in 1983. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
She is survived by three daughters and son-in-laws, Carolyn and Ralph Watson of Bluemont, Linda and Bobby Newton of White Oak and Joan and George Thomas of Grafton Village; one son, Air Force Retired Staff Sgt. Thomas A. Haid and his wife Carol of Spokane, Wash.; one sister, Pauline Alderman of Beckley; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A Catholic graveside service was held on Monday, Feb. 10, at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Father Stefan Starzynski officiated.
Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel, handled arrangements.

Irving Griffith Bell 63
Irving Griffith Bell, 63, of King George County died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, at Mary Washington Hospital.
He had lived mostly in King George and Westmoreland counties. He was the owner and operator of Irving Bell Painting & Small Repairs in King George.
Survivors include his sister, Margaret Ann King of Tangier Island; and two brothers, William D. Bell of Stafford County and Leonard N. Bell of Montross.
A funeral was held Sunday, Feb. 9, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home in King George. Burial was in Historyland Memorial Park in King George.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Ursula Oesterwinter, Box 431, Dahlgren, Va. 22448.

Ibby Barnes 91
Mary Elizabeth "Ibby" Barnes, 91, of King George County died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at Mary Washington Health Center in Colonial Beach.
Born in Washington, D.C., she had retired in 1972 as a secretary for the Chief Counsel of the Internal Revenue Service in Washington. She was a member of Oakland Baptist Church in Owens, and was the widow of Bernard Lee Barnes.
Survivors include two sons, George W. Barnes of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Robin Barnes of King George; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Her daughter, Laura Louise Smith, preceded her in death.
A funeral was held Friday, Feb. 7, at Oakland Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Rev. Guy D. Mattox Jr. officiated.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Dahlgren Rescue Squad, Box 1375, Dahlgren, Va. 22448; or to Oakland Baptist Church, 5520 James Madison Parkway, King George, Va. 22485.

Ann H. Storey 74
Ann Hadley Storey, 74, of King George County died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at home.
Born and raised in Huntington, W.Va., Ms. Storey was a technical writer/editor with Northrop Grumman Information Technology, where she supported the Aegis program at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division. Ms. Story had retired from NSWCDD in 1994 after 34 years of service. She had served as mentor, teacher and counselor to numerous young professionals in the Dahlgren community.
Ms. Storey graduated from Marshall University in Huntington, where she earned a bachelor's degree in English, mathematics and French. She also earned a master's degree from Mary Washington College.
She is survived by her daughter, Jane W. Browning; two grandsons, Joe Leon Browning of Asheville, N.C., and Michael Kenna Brooks and his wife, Stephanie, of Charlotte, N.C.; a great-granddaughter, Rachel Lee Browning; a sister, Sue Keeler, and brother-in-law, David, of Alexandria; a nephew, David Keeler II of Washington, D.C.; a niece, Rachel Wilder of Alexandria; and aunt, Lillian Purdue of Dallas, Texas. Her former husband, Joe L. Browning, former technical director, NAVSEA Indian Head, Naval Surface Warfare Center Division, preceded Ms. Storey in death.
A memorial service was held Friday, Jan. 31 at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home in King George. Her final resting place is in Huntington.
Expressions of sympathy may be in the form of donations to the Asheville Tourists Children's Fund, a charity created by Ms. Storey's daughter in response to nonemergency, self-esteem needs for children, c/o Gil Walker, 16-H Regent Park Blvd., Asheville, N.C. 28806.

Faith Ann Sharp 47
Faith Ann Sharp, 47, of King George County died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at Mary Washington Hospital, after a brief illness.
Survivors include five daughters, Star Wallatt, Tisha Opper, Rose Mary Sharp and Michelle Sharp, all of Philadelphia, Penn., and Karen Ann Sharp of King George; two sons, Robert Sharp of Philadelphia and Gregory Ryan of King George; her mother and father, Dorothy and Gerald Burdett of King George; two sisters; and eight grandchildren.
A funeral was held Thursday, Jan. 30, at Hanover Baptist Church. The Rev. Steve Siegrist officiated.

Fannie M Scott 105
Fannie M. Scott, 105, of King George County died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Born in Stafford County, she was a homemaker all her life and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in King George. She was the widow of Wesley T. Scott.
Survivors include five daughters, Myrtle Johnson of Baltimore, Md., Ruth Perryman of Ottumwa, Iowa, Violet Saunders of Reedville, Sue Northern of Gray, Tenn., and Thelma Archer of Colonial Heights; a son, Gusty Scott of King George; 25 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rosa Hamilton, and four sons, John, Slaughter, William and James Scott.
A funeral was held Friday, Jan. 31, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home in King George. Burial was in Shiloh Baptist Church cemetery. The Rev. William Bragdon officiated.

David Pribble 50
David Joseph Pribble, 50, of Gibsonton, Fla., formerly of Fredericksburg, passed away on Friday, Jan. 24, 2003. He was the brother of Paula Abilmona of Callao.
David was born August 15, 1952, son of Jacquelyn and the late Tom Pribble.
He grew up in Ferry Farms, graduated from Stafford High School in 1970, and moved to Gibsonton, Fla., in 1981, where he was an avid fisherman and worked as a surveyor and consultant on bridge construction for Cone and Graham Construction Inc.
In addition to his sister of Callao, he is survived by a son, David Clayton Pribble of Spotsylvania County; a brother, John Pribble of Stafford County; another sister, Dale Pribble of Washington, D.C.; and nephews, Cameron Thompson and Eric and Justin Abilmona.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, Jan. 28, at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Gibsonton. Family and friends gathered at his beloved home, Pribble's Palm on Bull Frog Creek, to celebrate David's earthly life.
