Robert M. Fitzhugh 68
Robert M. Fitzhugh, 68, of Colonial Beach died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at his home.
Born in King George County, he had retired as a machinist with the U.S. Government and the FMC Corp., and was a member of the Elks Lodge in Colonial Beach. He was the widow of Marian H. Fitzhugh.
Survivors include one daughter, Debra Fitzhugh Davezac of Fredericksburg; three sisters, Leila Wright and Minnie Creasey, both of King George, and Hattie Harkrider of Phoenix, Ariz.; one brother, Roger Fitzhugh of Bowling Green; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, George Fitzhugh.
A funeral was held Friday, Dec. 27, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home in Colonial Beach. Burial was in Historyland Memorial Park in King George. The Rev. Johnny Almond officiated.
Memorials may be made to Mary Washington Hospice, 2300 Fall Hill Ave., Suite 210, Fredericksburg, Va. 22401.

Brendan A. Blount 11 days old
Brendan Anderson Blount, 11 days old, of King George County died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Brendan was born Dec. 10 to Kristen Altman of King George and James Douglas Blount of Phoenix, Ariz.
Survivors include his brother, James Blount of Phoenix; maternal grandparents Belinda and Danny Mudd of King George, Leonard Rodrigues of King George and Alleen Rodrigues of Spotsylvania County; an aunt, Chaddie Rodrigues of Spotsylvania; and three uncles, Danny E. and Robert Mudd, both of King George, and Neal Rodrigues of Spotsylvania.
A graveside service was held Monday, Dec. 23, at Historyland Memorial Park in King George. The Rev. Randy Newsome officiated.
Nash and Slaw Funeral Home, King George, handled arrangements.

Beulah Welch 89
Beulah B. Welch, 89, of Dahlgren died Sunday, June 8, 2003, at Heritage Hall Health Care in George County.
She was born in Crawford County, Indiana.
Survivors include her husband, Herman B. Welch; a daughter, Beulah Jean Rodgers of Fredericksburg; a granddaughter, Alicia Desanto of Ashburn; and a son, Adam Rodgers of Charleston, S.C.
A service was held Tuesday, June 10, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home in King George. Burial was in Historyland Memorial Park in King George. Minister Guy D. Mattox Jr. officiated.
Contributions may be made to Dahlgren Rescue Squad, Box 1375, Dahlgren, Va. 22446, or to King George Fire Department, Box 466, King George, Va. 22485.

Deborah Thompson 50
Deborah Ann Thompson, 50, of Warsaw, formerly of Colonial Beach, died Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at her home.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald Edward Thompson of Warsaw; a daughter, Deborah Aranda and her husband, Juan Johnny Aranda, of Colonial Beach; two sons, William Charles Foster Jr. and Justin N. Thompson, both of Warsaw; a sister, Terry Lynn Purks of Stafford County; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emerson "Brother" and Floy Purks.
A funeral was held Friday, June 6, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home in Colonial Beach. Burial will follow in Potomac Baptist Church cemetery in King George County.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 311 South Blvd., Richmond, Va. 23220; or to the Colonial Beach Rescue Squad, 225 Dennison St., Colonial Beach, Va. 22443.

Blanch Melvin 38
Blanch Mae Melvin, 38, of Shelby, N.C., formerly of Colonial Beach, died of cancer Thursday, May 22, 2003, at Cleveland Medical Center in Shelby.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Melvin of Shelby; a son, Robbie Melvin of Shelby; her mother and stepfather, Rita and Harold Hume of Colonial Beach; and her sister and brother-in-law, Marsha and Stephen Giese of Colonial Beach.
A funeral was held Saturday, May 24, at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home in Shelby. A graveside service was held Tuesday, May 27 in Historyland Memorial Park in King George County. The Rev. Charles Dempsey officiated.

Joesph Johnson 17
Joseph A. "Joey" Johnson, 17, of King George County died Sunday, June 8, 2003, at the Medical College of Virginia Hospitals in Richmond.
He was a member of Shiloh Baptist (New Site) and Fredericksburg Baptist churches and was a former member of the Maranatha Second Generation Choir. He was a junior at King George High School, where he participated in the Navy Junior ROTC and was vice president of the FBLA. While a student at Drew Middle School, he was inducted into the National Junior Honor Society and received the Presidential Academic Achievement Award. He also wrestled and played football for Drew Middle, King George Middle and King George High schools.
His father, Roy Johnson, preceded him in death. He is survived by his mother, Linda Johnson-Houchens of King George; his guardians, Beverly Haney and Donna Deats of Fredericksburg; his sister and brother-in-law, Nicole and Demarco Foxx of Ladysmith; his sister, Amanda Johnson of Fredericksburg; his twin brother, William "Billy" Johnson of King George; his maternal grandmother, Leona Ziruolo of Spotsylvania County; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces.
A funeral was held today at Covenant Funeral Service in Fredericksburg. The Rev. T. Cunningham, the Rev. Donna Rhaney and the Rev. Patti English officiated. Interment was private.
Pallbearers were Paul Connolly, Andrew Connolly, Joseph Ziruolo, Matt Haney, Richard Deats, Tad Myers, Joseph Finney and Randall Pierce.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the MCV Hospital Hospitality House Inc., 612 East Marshall St., Richmond, Va. 23219.

Carmel White Eitt 85
Carmel White Eitt, 85, of King George County died Wednesday, June 4, 2003.
She was the wife of the late Col. Herbert E. Eitt, daughter of the late Thomas J. White, general manager of the Hearst Corp., and niece of Carmel Snow, longtime editor of Harper's Bazaar.
She enjoyed a successful career as an actress in several George Abbott productions, and played a leading role in Claire Booth Luce's popular comedy, "Kiss the Boys Goodbye." During World War II she joined the American Red Cross and served overseas in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany, where she ran rest camps and became known to thousands of GIs as "Candy" White.
She is survived by her children, Thomas Henry Eitt, of Knoxville, Tenn., Mark Edward Eitt of King George, Robert Eric Eitt, and Virginia Eitt Costello, both of Northern Virginia; a brother, John Michael White of Delray Beach, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service was held Thursday, June 19, in Arlington National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mary Washington Hospice, 2300 Fall Hill Ave., Suite 210, Fredericksburg, Va. 22401.

Grace Ashby Chinn 90
Grace Ashby Chinn, 90, of Fredericksburg, formerly of King George County, died Thursday, June 5, 2003.
Grace was the daughter of Turner A. Chinn and Daisy Green Chinn. She graduated from King George High School with honors and a scholarship. She attended Strayer Business School and Fredericksburg State Teachers College, now Mary Washington College, and graduated in 1933. She taught school in Alexandria and later went to work in Washington for the federal government.
Grace returned to Fredericksburg and worked at the Sylvania Plant, later FMC plant, from which she retired.
She is survived by cousins in the surrounding area and as far away as Michigan; and by loving friends.
A graveside service was held Monday, June 9, in Oak Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Nathan Ferrell officiated.

Peter Carza 74
Peter Caza, 74, of Colonial Beach died Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at Mary Washington Hospital. He was a retired barber and a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served in the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy M. Caza; two sons, Franklin Di Pasquale and Eric W. Palmer and his wife, Wendy; four daughters, Rosalie Wyland, Victoria D. Caza, Suzanne L. Torres and her husband, Frank, and Dorothy E. Michols; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
A funeral was held Friday, June 6, at St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial was in Quantico National Cemetery. Father Donald Rooney officiated.

Samuel Marshall Jr. 87
Samuel Preston Marshall Jr., 87, a native of King George County, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at his home in Tupelo, Miss.
A memorial service was held Saturday, July 26, at First Presbyterian Church.
W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors handled arrangements.

Michael James Lucas 3
Michael James "Styx" Lucas, 53, of Dahlgren died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at Fort Washington Hospital.
He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
Mr. Lucas is survived by his wife, Dinell C. Lucas; three daughters, Tiffany Ball, Demetria Lucas and Michelle Lucas; his mother, Mary L. Lucas; a sister, Sharon L. Johnson; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, July 29, at Zion Baptist Church in Kinsale. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Weldon-Fisher Funeral Home, Nomini Grove, handled arrangements.

James Garfield Lewis 84
James Garfield Lewis, 84, of King George County died Thursday, July 24, 2003, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Mr. Lewis, born in Staunton, retired from the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division.
Survivors include his wife, Aloncita F. Lewis; three daughters, Jacquelin M.L. Howell Ward of Chicago, Gwendolyn A. Lewis of Alexandria and Urzetta V. Lewis of King George; a foster son, Maurice S. Beverly of Hephzibah, Ga.; a grandson, Wayne E. Howell Jr. of Detroit; two great-grandchildren; one son-in-law; one brother-in-law; and two nieces.
A funeral was held Monday, July 28, at Antioch Baptist Church in King George. Burial was in Historyland Memorial Park in King George.
Lee Funeral Home, King George, handled arrangements.
