Wiley T. Nance Sr.
Wiley Thomas Nance Sr., 60, of 1032 Parkwood Place, Collinsville, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
He was born in Martinsville on Oct. 22, 1943, a son of Mary E. Thompson of Martinsville and the late Reuben Nance.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Rebecca Turner Nance of the home; three sons, Sgt. Wiley Thomas Nance Jr. of Ft. Knox, Ky., William Joseph Nance of Collinsville and Robert Andrew Nance of the home; one sister, Ralpholene Moore of Fieldale; one brother, Frank Nance of Fieldale; three nephews; and one niece.
Nance was owner and operator of Piedmont Specialty Company in Collinsville. He served in the Air Force and was a member of Elks Lodge No. 1752 of Martinsville. He was a Baptist by faith.
The funeral will held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Norris Funeral Services chapel with the Rev. Ron Mateer officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at Norris Funeral Services for one hour before the funeral Saturday and other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to the Elks National Home, 931 Ashland Ave., Bedford, Va. 24523.

William D. Robertson
The funeral for William D. Robertson, 81, formerly of 1204 Rives Road, Martinsville, who died June 6, 2004, was held Sunday at Community Funeral Service with the Rev. William ÒBillÓ Preskitt officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church cemetery with full military honors by the Patrick County Honor Guard.
Pallbearers were Wayne Grogan, Roger Lawson, Frankie Davis, Kendall Preskitt, Roger Lovell and Lonnie Corns.

John R. Wright
John Richard Wright, 85, of Melrose Drive, Bassett, died Thursday, June 17, 2004, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
He was born Aug. 14, 1918, in Patrick Springs, to John Wright and Cora Rebecca Turner Wright. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Minnie Compton and Suzie Oliver, and four brothers, Josiah Wright, Roy Wright, Rudolph Wright and Paul Wright.
An Army sergeant during World War II, he served overseas with battalions in China, Burma and India. He retired from Fieldcrest Mills with 35 years of service and was a former member of the Bassett Rescue Squad. He also had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Bassett for 57 years, where he also was a member of the Yeaman Bible Class.
Surviving are his wife, Goldie Stone Wright of the home; two daughters, Becky Wright Helms of Bassett and Kathy Wright Plogger of Collinsville; on sister, Queenie Wright of Martinsville; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Bassett with the Rev. Lew Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park with full military honors.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church of Bassett.
Memorials may be made to Bassett Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 510, Bassett, Va. 24055, or First Baptist Church of Bassett, P.O. Box 557, Bassett, Va. 24055.
Collins Funeral Home, Bassett, is in charge of arrangements.

Gladys T. Gilbert
The funeral for Gladys Tate Gilbert, 86, of Martinsville, who died June 19, 2004, was held Tuesday at Wesley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Philip Waltz officiating. Burial was at Roselawn Burial Park.
Pallbearers were Mark Gilbert, Eddie Gilbert, Doug Gilbert, J.W. Gilbert, Sherman Witt and Milford Witt.
Norris Funeral Services and Crematory was in charge of arrangements.

Virgil R. Hall Sr.
WILLIAMSTON, N.C. -- Virgil Randolph Hall Sr., 75, of 1105 Corey Drive, Williamston, died Sunday, June 20, 2004, at Martin General Hospital in Williamston.
He was born in Patrick County, Va., on June 24, 1928, to Tucker Randolph Hall and Addie Rakes Hall, both deceased.
He was a self-employed sawmiller for most of his life.
Surviving are his wife, Eleanor Cox Hall; one daughter, Brenda Faye Huskey of Reidsville; two sons, Virgil Hall Jr. of Byron, Ga., and Arnold Dean Hall of Williamston; three sisters, Charlene Kenon of Reidsville, Margaret Williams of Elkin and Gladys Coleman of Stuart, Va.; one brother, Donald Hall of Stuart; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mayo Mountain Baptist Church cemetery in Claudville, Va., with the Rev. J.R. Shelton officiating.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. today at Howell Funeral Home in Stuart.

Vada P. Hughes
Vada Gay Pendleton Hughes, 82, of Martinsville, died Monday, June 21, 2004, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
She was born Feb. 8, 1922, in Patrick County, to Edward Green and Vera Annice Wood Pendleton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Roy Hughes; one sister, Clara Handy; and two brothers Elmer Pendleton and Eston Pendleton.
She worked at the J.P. Stevens plant and retired from Bassett Walker Knitting Co. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Fieldale.
Surviving are three daughters, Darnell Hughes Cockram, Martha Jane Hughes and Teresa G. Gammons, all of Martinsville; two sons, James E. Hughes of Seattle, Wash., and Charles E. Hughes of Martinsville; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Moody Funeral Home chapel in Stuart with the Rev. J.R. Shelton officiating. Burial will be in Patrick Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today and other times at the home of Darnell Cockram and Jane Hughes.

Troy Martin
The funeral for Troy Martin, 84, of Patrick Springs, who died June 19, 2004, was held Tuesday at Providence United Methodist Church in Patrick Springs. Pastor David Westmoreland and the Rev. Jack Foley officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jason Brown, David Hubbard, Tommy Ratliff, Larry Martin, Randall Martin, Donald Plaster, Phillip Keith and Junior Turner.
Howell Funeral Home of Stuart was in charge of the arrangements.

Elizabeth E. Mason
Elizabeth Evelyn Mason, 75, of Henry, and formerly of Maple Shade, N.J., died Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at her home in Henry.
She was born Sept. 22, 1928, in East Pennsauken, N.J., to Earl Whinna and Laura Collins Whinna. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Elliston Morris Jacobs; her second husband, James Mason; and a brother, Earl Whinna.
Before retiring to Virginia, she worked in golf course designing for a number of years. She was of the Methodist faith.
Surviving are two daughters, Betty Ianeri of Warminster, Pa., and Debbie Lucas of Southhampton, N.J.; two sons, Elliston M. "Jake" Jacobs of Henry, and John Summers of Hainesport, N.J.; two sisters, Laura Neely of Seaside Park, N.J., and Doris Howard of Pine Hill, N.J.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Holly Cemetery in Mount Holly, N.J.
Visitation will be held from 7-8 p.m. today at Collins Funeral Services in Bassett.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County, P.O. Box 4788, Martinsville, Va. 24115.

Edith S. Riggs
The funeral for Edith Seay Riggs, 75, of Martinsville, who died June 18, 2004, was held Tuesday at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home. The Rev. Jimmy Caldwell officiated. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.
Pallbearers were Michael Rorrer, Brian Toler, Michael Riggs, Mickey Riggs, Thomas Riggs and Don Collins.

Steven W. Cox
Steven Wayne Cox, 47, of 120 Mulberry Court, Martinsville, died Sunday, June 27, 2004, while vacationing with his family at Holden Beach, N.C.
He was taken to Brunswick Community Hospital in Supply, N.C., where death was attributed to an apparent heart attack, his uncle, James Rogers, said Monday.
Cox was owner/operator of Forum 225 Hairstylist on Ellsworth Street, Martinsville, and had volunteered in the "Men Who Cook" fundraiser for the Mental Health Association for several years.
Norris Funeral Services and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
