Carleton Henry Garrett 89
Carleton Henry Garrett, 89, of Destin, Fla., formerly of Colonial Beach went to be with his Heavenly Father on June 10, 2003, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Richmond on July 25, 1913, and was a resident of Colonial Beach until his move to Destin in 1999. Carleton was a retired chief engineer in the U.S. Maritime Service and served as a lieutenant in the Merchant Marines in World War II. He was a dedicated member of Colonial Beach United Methodist Church and Destin United Methodist Church and served his church in all capacities. He was a Mason and Past Master of Masonic Lodge No. 199; Lifetime Member of Scottish Rite of Free Masonry; Past Patron of Eastern Star, Wakefield Chapter No. 77; past president of the Colonial Beach Lion's Club; and member of Gideon's International and Methodist Men.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Doris Tatlow Garrett of Destin; son and daughter-in-law Carleton "Tuffy" and Faye Garrett of King George County, Kitty and Ernie Ammons of Destin; grandchildren, Craig Ammons and wife, Chris, of Milton, Fla., Gary Garrett and wife, Denise, of Fredericksburg, and Michelle Stewart and husband, Shayne, of Destin; and great-grandchildren, Christopher Ammons and Aleisha Wells of Milton, Fla., Adrian Garrett of Fredericksburg, and Kathryn Woodward, Cody Woodward and Matthew Stewart, all of Destin.
A celebration of Carleton's life was held Sunday, June 22, at Destin United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Colonial Beach United Methodist Church.

Charles Canada 68
Charles Canada, 68, of King George County died Saturday, June 21, 2003, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Mr. Canada had retired from the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division, where he worked in the engineering department.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann Canada, of King George; two sons, Michael Canada and Anthony Chase, both of King George; two daughters, Denotre Chase of Port Royal and Rayshell Jenifer of Richmond; three brothers, Willie Canada of Spotsylvania, Maurice Canada of Reston and James Canada of Caroline County; a sister, Doris Watts of Fredericksburg; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A funeral will be held Friday, June 27, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church Ambar in King George. The Rev. James P. Frye will officiate. Burial will be Monday, June 30, at 11 a.m. in Quantico National Cemetery.
The body may be viewed from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday at Bailey Funeral Service in Fredericksburg.

William Bernard Boyle 83
William Bernard Boyle, 83, of Warsaw died Saturday, June 21, 2003. He is survived by family in Montross.
Mr. Boyle was a retired farmer and member of Henderson United Methodist Church at Callao.
Surviving are his wife, Lois R. Boyle; three daughters, Rose Marie Self, Judy Boyle and Mary Ellen O'Bier, all of Warsaw; two sons, W. Bernard Boyle and Curtis Bryon Boyle, and their mother, Gladys Balderson, all of Montross; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, James Preston Boyle of Richmond and Robert Clifton Boyle of Callao; and a sister, Marguerite B. Straughan of Adelphi, Md.
A funeral was held Tuesday, June 24, at Henderson United Methodist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Montross Rescue Squad, Box 1174, Montross, Va. 22572; or to the Richmond County Rescue Squad, Box 55, Warsaw, Va. 22572.

Nellie Williams 85
Nellie Williams, 85, of Spotsylvania County died Sunday, June 8, 2003, at Greenfield Assisted Living. She was the sister of Lillie Williams of King George County. In addition to her sister of King George, she is survived by two other sisters, Margaret Henderson of Fredericksburg and Mary Chingren of Iowa; a brother, Enos Williams of Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service was held Thursday, June 12, in George Washington Cemetery in Hyattsville, Md. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the American Diabetes Association, Box 1385, Fredericksburg, Va. 22402. Emma B. Rock 88
Emma B. Rock, 88, of Fredericksburg, formerly of King George County, died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at Mary Washington Hospital. She was born in Farnham, and was a member of the King George Fire Department Auxiliary and various clubs at Trinity United Methodist Church in King George. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond H. Rock. Survivors include her daughter, Alice R. Goolrick of Fredericksburg, with whom she made her home; a son, Louis R. Rock of Cape Charles; a half brother, Thomas Fones of Lottsburg; four grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren. A graveside service was held Tuesday, June 17, in Trinity United Methodist Church cemetery in King George. Contributions may be made to King George Fire Department, Box 466, King George, Va. 22485 or to Dahlgren Rescue Squad, Box 1375, Dahlgren, Va. 22448. Arlene Bennett Reeve 72
Arlene Bennett Reeve, 72, of Stafford County died Sunday, June 8, 2003, at her home. She was the mother of Diane R. Mullen and grandmother of Michael L. Mullen and Eric J. Mullen, all of King George County. Mrs. Reeve was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church and had retired as a dental assistant after 32 years of service. In addition to her daughter and grandsons of King George, Mrs. Reeve is survived by her husband, Raymond R. Reeve; son, Vernon L. Reeve of Stafford; two other daughters, Shirley R. Brent and Karen R. Carpenter, both of Stafford; three brothers, Freeman Bennett of Spotsylvania County, Raymond Bennett of Waldorf, Md., and Hershel Bennett of Spotsylvania; six other grandchildren, Sherri L. Brent of Stafford, David R. Brent of Stafford, Sabrina R. Tolson of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., Rebecca D. Reeve of Stafford, Daniel C. Reeve of Stafford and Lisa A. Roberts of Fort Polk, La.; and seven great-grandchildren. A funeral was held Wednesday, June 11, at Covenant Funeral Service in Fredericksburg. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Paul Curry and the Rev. Carol Markham officiated. Pallbearers were David R. Brent, Daniel C. Reeve, Michael S. Mullen, Eric J. Mullen, Larry Roberson and Hubert Roberson. Martez K.D. Parker 15
Martez K.D. Parker, 15-year-old son of Meredith K. Williams of Caroline County and Theresa F. Parson of Spotsylvania County, died Saturday, June 7, 2003, at the Medical College of Virginia Hospitals in Richmond, as the result of an automobile accident. He was the stepbrother of Craig E. Parson of King George County. Born in Fredericksburg, he was a student at Thornburg Middle School and a member of Macedonia Community Baptist Church in Woodford. In addition to his parents and stepbrother, he is survived by a stepsister, Tangala L. Parson of Fredericksburg; three brothers, Anthony T. Berryman, Marlon K. Parker and Andre J. Parker, all of Spotsylvania County; and his paternal grandmother, Ruth Williams of Spotsylvania. A funeral was held Saturday, June 14, at Macedonia Community Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Rev. C.E. Williams officiated. A.L. Bennett Funeral Home, Fredericksburg, handled arrangements.

Mildred Noel 86
Mildred Sullivan "Nanny" Noel, 86, of King George County died Thursday, June 12, 2003, at Mary Washington Hospital. She retired as an insurance agent from Freeman & Associates, where she worked for more than 40 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rubin M. "Buck" Noel. Survivors include her son, Rubin M. Noel Jr. and his wife, Mary, of Winston Salem, N.C.; her brother, John Ralph "Rusty" Sullivan of Stafford County; six grandchildren, Kimberly Noel Taylor of Stafford, Rubin Madison Noel III of Welcome, N.C., Kris Justine Noel of Stafford, Hilary Anne Parr of Spotsylvania County, Elizabeth Virginia Noel and Alice Morgan Noel, both of Winston Salem, N.C.; five great-grandchildren, Alexandra Justine Noel, Joshua Dylan Noel, Max Earl Taylor II, Sara Ashleigh Taylor, Georgia Anne Parr; a former daughter-in-law, Gloria B. Noel of Stafford and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. A funeral was held Sunday, June 15, at Covenant Funeral Service in Fredericksburg. Lloyd T. "Sonny Boy" Jones, 55, of Westmoreland County died Wednesday, June 11, 2003. A funeral was held Monday, June 16, at Salem Baptist Church in Montross. Pastor William Curry officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Weldon-Fisher Funeral Home, Nomini Grove, handled arrangements.

Ernest Haynes Sr. 72
Ernest Gilbert "Jukie" Haynes Sr. of Stafford County, formerly of Alexandria, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2003, surrounded by his family. He was the father of Eddie Haynes and his wife, Karin, of King George County. Raised in Alexandria, Mr. Haynes had been a member of the Stafford community for nearly 30 years. A devoted husband and father, he will be remembered as a lifetime Master Mason, Mount Vernon Lodge 219, as Past Associate Guardian of Bethel 22, Groveton, International Order of Job's Daughters, and as a coach of many Little League and Parks and Recreation ball teams. He retired from a working life that led him all over the country with the airlines, railroad, and as a driver. In addition to his son and daughter-in-law of King George, Mr. Haynes is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Bobbie Jeverna Tucker Haynes; two daughters, Lynn Haynes of Stafford and Gwyn George and her husband, Mark, of Northern Virginia; another son, Ernie Haynes and his wife, Suzanne, of Spotsylvania County; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his sister, Patricia Bettis of Northern Virginia; his brother, Wayne Haynes of West Virginia, formerly of Northern Virginia; and a host of nieces and nephews. A celebration of his life was held Sunday, June 15, at Falmouth Volunteer Fire Department. Ashes will be scattered on the family land in Jonesborough, Tenn., at a later date. In lieu of flowers, remembrances in the form of donations to any of the following would be appreciated: Alzheimer's Association, American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, American Arthritis Foundation or any rescue squad in the Fredericksburg area.

Helen Brown 90
Helen Siefert Brown, 90, a King George County resident for many years, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, after a long illness. She was the widow of retired Army Col. Robert E. Brown. Mrs. Brown was born in Indiana, and worked at Catholic Charities as a social worker after graduating from Indiana University with a bachelor of arts degree. She accompanied her husband on his assignments at home and abroad, and settled in King George after her husband retired from the Army in 1963. They purchased and restored historic Hobson Farm. Her many interests included piano, choral singing, painting, gardening and reading. She attended Sacred Heart Chapel and St. Anthony's Catholic Church in King George. Survivors include five children, Susan Allen of King George, David Brown of Austin, Texas, Timothy Brown of Canton, Mich., Stephen Brown of King George and Sara Jane Deringer of Richmond; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, Richmond Chapter, 7124 Forest Hill Ave, Suite B, Richmond, Va. 23225. A funeral Mass was held Monday, June 16, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in King George. Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George, handled arrangements.

Jane Armstrong 63
Jane M. Armstrong, 63, of Fredericksburg died Thursday, June 12, 2003, at her home. She was a native of King George County. Surviving are a daughter, Karen Armstrong of Fredericksburg; a son, Kenneth Armstrong of Culpeper County; two grandchildren, Ashleigh and Emily Armstrong of Fredericksburg; two sisters, Gracie Lumpkins of Fredericksburg and Charlotte Shrewsburg of Charleston, W.Va.; three brothers, Jesse Nave of Woodbridge, Homer Nave of Orange County and David Nave of Bowling Green; and several nieces and nephews. A private graveside service was held Monday, June 16, at the Nave Family Cemetery. Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel, handled arrangements.
