Harry S. Burrell 83 years
Harry S. Burrell, 83, of Dahlgren died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, in Richmond after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Burrell had retired from the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division, and had served in the Army Air Forces during World War II. He was a member of Oakland Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey Crittenden Burrell of Dahlgren; a daughter, Vicki D. Koehl of Fredericksburg; a son, Robert K. Burrell of Richmond; a sister, Mollie King of Fairplay, S.C.; two brothers, Kenneth Burrell and Bradley Burrell, both of Houston; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary W. Burrell, and a son, Leroy "Buck" Burrell.
A funeral was held on. Saturday, Jan. 31, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George, with the Rev. Guy D. Mattox Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Baptist Church cemetery.
The family received friends one hour prior to the service time Saturday.

Allan Alfred "Jack" Bullock 69 years
Allan Alfred "Jack" Bullock, 69, of White Oak in Stafford County died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, at his home. He was a member of Potomac Baptist Church and was an avid bluegrass guitar player.
Survivors include his daughter, Cheryl B. Curtis, and her husband, Rodney, of King George; a stepson, Jerry Sullivan of King George; six brothers, Franklin Bullock of Spotsylvania, Charles, Homer, Gene and Ressie Bullock, all of Stafford, and John Bullock of Spotsylvania; three sisters, Nancy Gavin of Fredericksburg, Virginia Irby of King George and Rachael Newton of Stafford; two grandchildren, Christine and Mathew Curtis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral was held on Monday, Feb. 2, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, with the Rev. Ray Newton officiating. Burial was in the family cemetery in Stafford. The family received friends on Sunday, Feb. 1, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to White Oak Rescue Squad, 535 White Oak Road, Falmouth, Va. 22405; or to Potomac Baptist Church, Box 701, King George, Va. 22485.

Bernard D. Allen 80 years
Bernard D. Allen, 80, of King George County died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Richmond, after a long illness.
Survivors include eight daughters, Grace Johnson, Dorothy, Peggy and Pam Allen, and Carrie Rich, all of King George, and Debra Allen, Selestine Jeter and Louise Pitts, all of Washington; three sons, Howard and Earl Allen, both of King George, and Charles Robinson of Washington; 25 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
A funeral was held on Friday, Jan. 30, at Salem Baptist Church, Jersey, with the Rev. Leonard G. Bland officiating. Burial was in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, King George.
The body was viewed from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday at Cedell Brooks Funeral Home, Port Royal, and one hour prior to the service time at the church Friday.

Paul K. Trivett 60 years
Paul K. Trivett, 60, of King George County died Monday, Jan 26, 2004, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Born in Ashe County, N.C., Mr. Trivett was the owner and operator of a sawmill in Westmoreland County. He was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church in King George and the Virginia Sounds of Glory, a bluegrass gospel group.
Survivors include his wife, Rachel S. Trivett; a daughter, Jo Ann Walkup of Charlotte Hall, Md; three sons, Tony Trivett of Stafford County, Darrell K. Trivett of Fredericksburg and Ernie L. Trivett of King George; his mother Ardna Trivett of Deep Gap, N.C.; two sisters, Nancy Kerhoulas and Joyce Farrington, both of Deep Gap; two brothers, Talmadge Trivett of West Jefferson, N.C., and Roy Trivett of Montross; and six grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, at Potomac Baptist Church , with the Rev. Dennis Newton officiating. Burial will follow in Historyland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, Jan 28, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George.

Harold L. "Woody" Sullivan 80 years
Harold L. "Woody" Sullivan, 80, of Jacksonville, Fla., died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, at Orange Park Medical Center in Orange Park, Fla., following an extended illness.
Mr. Sullivan was a native of Fredericksburg and had resided in Lake City, Fla., for 24 years before moving to Jacksonville, Fla., in 1968.
He was the son of the late Rosser and Bertha Herndon Jett Sullivan. While residing in Lake City, he worked for Soldwell Jewelers, Tom Davis Jewelers and Rountree-Moore Ford for many years. While residing in Jacksonville, he worked under civil service as an instrument mechanic at Jacksonville Naval Air Station for 22 years, until his retirement in 1987.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Lake City, American Legion Post 57 in Lake City for 57 years, Elks Lodge 893 of Lake City, was past worshipful master of Masonic Lodge 27 of Lake City, member of the Scottish Rite and the York Rite bodies and was a life member of the Morrocco Temple of the Shrine Club.
He was a graduate of Tampa Horological School for Watchmakers, and was a member of the American Association and the Florida Association of Watchmakers. Mr. Sullivan was a Navy veteran of World War II.
He was the brother of Eugene Sullivan of King George County. In additional to his brother of King George, he is survived by his wife, Mary G. "Beth" Sullivan of Jacksonville, Fla.; two daughters, Sheila Baker and her husband, Ed, of Fairfax, and Mary Sullivan Gallagher of Orange Park, Fla.; five sisters, Hazel McWhirt, Helen Wolfrey, Evelyn Eustace and her husband, Vernon, Olive Simmons and Patricia Moore, and her husband, Randy, all of Fredericksburg; three grandchildren, Kelli Richardson and her husband, Robert, of Virginia Beach, Bryan Baker of Fairfax and Michael Gallagher of Orange Park; two great-granddaughters, Elizabeth Richardson and Amanda Richardson, both of Virginia Beach; and his sister-in-law, Polly G. Hammond of Fort White, Fla.
A funeral was held on Saturday, Jan. 24, at Orange Park United Methodist Church in Orange Park, with the Rev. Pearl Boles and the Rev. Matthew Berryman officiating. A Masonic graveside service was conducted on Saturday in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Lake City.
Visitation will be one hour before the service time Saturday at the church.

Robert Allen Reed 79 years
Robert Allen Reed, 79, of Westmoreland County died Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at his home.
Son of the late Isaac and Mary Reed, he received his education in Westmoreland public schools and was a member of Siloam Baptist Church, Montross. He worked for Blake Construction in Washington and Montross Lumber Co.
Left to cherish precious memories are his wife, Catherine Lueteacher Haskins Reed; four children, Kevin Thompson of Warsaw, Charles Haskins of Montross, Albert Haskins of Colonial Beach and Barbara Parker of King George; one sister, Elizabeth Reed; and one brother, Lester Reed of Montross.
A funeral was held on Saturday, Jan. 24, at Little Zion Baptist Church, with the Rev. William B. Scott officiating. Interment was in Siloam Baptist Church Memorial Cemetery, Montross.

Esther R. McCurdy 78 years
Esther R. McCurdy, 78, of Colonial Beach died of cancer at her home Monday, Jan. 19, 2004.
Born in Dahlgren, she was a housewife and a member of Colonial Beach Baptist Church.
She was the daughter of Henry E. Worrells Jr. and Ruth Adelaide Twiford Worrells.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Oswald D. McCurdy; her daughters, Elaine Devlin of Fort Myers, Fla., and Dianne M. Purks of Montross; a son, Edward Lee McCurdy of Lynchburg; daughters, Patricia M. Green of Appomattox and Kristi M. Creasy of Spotsylvania; three brothers, Henry E. Worrells Jr. of Cape Coral, Fla., Albert M. Worrells of Bonita, Calif., and Eldred T. Worrells of Colonial Beach; a sister, Elizabeth Filz of Ocala, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral and burial was held at noon Thursday, Jan. 22, in Quantico National Cemetery, with the Rev. Johnny Almond and the Rev. Robert Higgins officiating.
Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, Colonial Beach, is handling the arrangements.

Maude Ellen Wellons Latane 78 years
Maude Ellen Wellons Latane, 78, of Washington's Birthplace in Westmoreland County died at her home Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, after a long illness.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Lawrence W. Latane Jr.; and their two children, Lawrence W. Latane III and his wife, Becky, and Rebecca Ripley and her husband, Jeff. She also had five grandchildren, Sarah Beth, Cameron and Sage Latane, and Evan and Hollyn Ripley.
For many years she was president of the Wakefield Memorial Association which supported National Park Service efforts at George Washington Birthplace National Monument. In the 1970s, she helped her husband restore Blenheim, an 18th-century Washington family home which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. She was born in Southampton County and grew up in Emporia.
A memorial service was held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Oak Grove at noon Monday.
In appreciation of the organization, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Mary Washington Hospice, 2300 Fall Hill Ave., Suite 210, Fredericksburg, Va. 22401.

Claude C. Fauntleroy unknown
Claude C. Fauntleroy of Amherst, formerly of Westmoreland County, passed away Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004.
A funeral was held on Saturday, Jan. 24, at Zion Baptist Church, 1274 Zion Church Road, Kinsale. Arrangements are entrusted to Weldon-Fisher Funeral Home, Warsaw.

Herman B. Welch 78 years
Herman B. Welch, 78, of Dahlgren died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at Mary Washington Hospital. He was born in Canton, Ohio.
Mr. Welch was a retired computer operater for the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division, and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
The widower of Beulah B. Welch, he is survived by his daughter, Beulah Jean Rodgers of Fredericksburg; two half sisters, Shirley Reed of Roanoke and Joyce Diehm of Florida; and two grandchildren.
A funeral was held on Tuesday, Jan. 20, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George, with the Rev. Guy D. Mattox Jr. officiating. Burial was in Historyland Memorial Park, King George.
The family received visitors at the funeral home.

Virginia Walker Settle 89 years
Virginia Walker Settle, 89, of Dahlgren died at her residence Monday, Jan. 12, 2004.
Born in Burlington, N.C., on April 14, 1914, she was a member of First Christian United Church of Christ in Burlington and was a regular attendee at Oakland Baptist Church in King George.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Settle Jr.
Mrs. Settle dedicated her working years to children, having taught elementary school for over 30 years in North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland. She retired from the Charles County school system in Maryland in 1979.
Survivors include three sons, Frank Settle III of Houston, Robert W. Settle of Jonesboro, Tenn., and Richard H. Settle of Fredericksburg; two sisters, Josephine Terrell of Burlington and Sarah Newman of Siler City, N.C.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
A funeral was held Friday, Jan. 16, at Oakland Baptist Church, with the Rev. Guy D. Mattox Jr. officiating. Burial was in Historyland Memorial Park. The family received friends at the church.
Memorial donations may be made to the Dahlgren Rescue Squad, Box 1375, Dahlgren, Va. 22448; or to Smoot Memorial Library, 9533 Kings Highway, King George, Va. 22485.
