Margot T. Balabous 65 years
Margot T. Balabous, 65, of Colonial Beach died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, at Mary Washington Health Care in Colonial Beach.
Born in Washington, she was a graduate of St. Patrick's High School there. She was treasurer of American Legion Auxiliary, member of the VFW Auxiliary, the Order of Eagles Auxiliary, the Moose Lodge Auxiliary and the Potomac Sport Fisherman's Club, all in Colonial Beach. She was a past member and the first woman member of the Titusville, Fla., Power Squadron, and was an active supporter of Relay for Life.
Survivors include her husband, Michael N. Balabous of Colonial Beach; two daughters, Margaret Anne Hinds of Manteo, N.C., and Marie Therese Harrison of Port Royal; a sister, Catherine Anne Sharp of Alexandria; a brother, George M. Cutler of Colonial Beach; four nieces and two nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Port Royal.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Box 299, Port Royal, Va. 22535.
Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, Colonial Beach, is handling arrangements.

Bill Simpson Jr. 56 years
William O. "Bill" Simpson Jr., 56, of Colonial Beach died at his home Monday, Oct. 20, 2003.
Born in Alexandria, he was a member of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Colonial Beach.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret A. Simpson, of the home.
A funeral was held Wednesday, Oct. 22, at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Thomas VanderWoude officiating. Burial was in Mount Comfort Cemetery, Alexandria.
The family received friends from at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, Colonial Beach.
Memorial donations may be made to the Colonial Beach Rescue Squad, 225 Dennison St., Colonial Beach

Mabel B. Mullen 78
Mabel B. Mullen, 78, of King George died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003, at Mary Washington Hospital.
She was born in Indianhead, Md., and had retired as a salesperson for Woolco. She was a member of Potomac Baptist Church in King George. She was the widow of Arthur L. Mullen.
Survivors include a daughter, Charlotte Herndon of Fredericksburg; four sons, Aruthur Mullen Jr. and Eugene H. Mullen of King George, Glenn J. Mullen of Dahlgren adn Walter L. Mullen of Fredericksburg; three sisters, Joan Gray of King George, Anna Watson of Ruckersville and Nellie Pack of Hyattsville, Md.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grand children.
A funeral was held Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, at Montague Baptist Church in King George with the Rev. Kenneth Brooks officiating. Burial was in the Potomac Baptist Church cemetery.
The family received friends on Monday at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Dahlgren Rescue Squad, Box 1375, Dahlgren, Va. 22448 or to Mary Washington Hospice, 2300 Fall Hill Ave., Suite 210 Fredericksburg, Va 22401.

George Mitchell Jr. 80 years
George Victor Mitchell Jr., 80, a longtime resident of Fairview Beach, formerly of Petersburg, passed away Monday, Oct. 20, in King George County. He was the son of the late George V. and Georgia Sublett Mitchell and the widower of Patricia Mitchell.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a retired employee of DuPont.
Mr. Mitchell is survived by a stepdaughter, Leslye Torkos of Spotsylvania County.
A graveside service was held Thursday, Oct. 23, in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. Services was provided by the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.

Mary G. Johnson 77 years
Mary G. Johnson, 77, of King George County died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, at Mary Washington Hospital.
She was a member of Family Life Christian Center in Spotsylvania, and a former employee of Mount Rose Canning Co. for 18 years and White Packing Co., from which she retired.
Survivors include her husband, Ernest Lee Johnson of King George; a daughter, Thomasine Johnson of Hampton; six sons, Thomas J., Tyrone, and Michael T. Pollard, Ernest Lee Jr. and Miguel Johnson, all of King George, and Carl Pollard of Spotsylvania; a sister, Yvonne Bland; and two brothers, Khabir Abdullah and Roger Jefferson, all of King George.
A funeral was held Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Massaponax Baptist Church, with the Rev. James E. King officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Richard B. George 75 years
Richard B. George, 75, of Merritt Island, Fla., formerly of Midland in Fauquier County, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003. He was survived by a daughter, Debra Brown of King George. In additional to his daughter of King George Mr. George is survided by wife, Myrna George; two other children, Brenda Heddleson of Georgia and Carl George of Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Hope Stiefer and Bryce Olsen; and a brother, James George. He was preceded in death by a son, Alan George. A memorial service was held on Saturday, Oct. 18, at Faith Lutheran Church in Merritt Island.

Blanche Oliff Bowen 78 years
Blanche Oliff Bowen, age 78, of Colonial Beach died on Sunday, Oct. 19,2003. She was the widow of Allen W. Bowen. Survivors include two sons, William Lewis Bowen Sr. and Roger Lee Bowen and his wife, Doris, all of Montross; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Hampton Oliff of Montross; and a sister, Ida Oliff Dodd of Coles Point. She was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Bowen. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, Oct 21,at Welch Funeral Home, Montross. Burial was private. The family received friends at the funeral home. Lonnie D. Bowden Sr. 82 years
Lonnie D. Bowden Sr., 82, of King George County died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, at Heritage Hall Health Care in King George. Born in Portsmouth, he had retired after 35 years of service with the Norfolk Naval Air Rework Facility. He then drove a school bus for King George County for 25 years. He was a member of the Ruritan Club, AARP and Shiloh Baptist Church, King George, where he served as a deacon and was active in other church activities. He was the widower of Mattie E. Bowden. Survivors include a daughter, Venida Rice of King George; a son, Lonnie D. Bowden Jr. of Walhonding, Ohio; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson. A funeral was held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, at Shiloh Baptist Church, with the Rev. William Bragdon officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. The family received friends on Saturday at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George. Memorial donations may be made to Shiloh Baptist Church, 13457 Kings Highway, King George, Va. 22485.

Mary Newberry Wood 66 years
On Tuesday, June 15, 2004, an amazing mother made her last journey home. Mary Newberry Wood, 66, of King George County passed through heaven's gate at 10:05 p.m. at Mary Washington Hospital.
Mrs. Wood is survived by her husband, William G. Wood; her son, William Franklin Hunt Sr.; two daughters, Barbara L. Wood and Tonya McMillan Cruse; one granddaughter, Joy Mullen; two grandsons, Jason Wood and Franklin Hunt Jr.; two great-granddaughters; and two great-grandsons, all of King George.
She is also survived by her brothers of North Carolina and many loving friends and family members who will miss her laughter and her songs always.
Mrs. Wood will suffer no more in life, but live on in glory as she has joined her mother and father and many loved ones who had passed before her.
A viewing was held at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George, on Thursday, June 17.
A funeral was held on June 18, at Tabernacle Baptist Church in King George, with the Rev. Sherman Davis officiating. Burial followed at Historyland Memorial Park in King George.

Mable Elizabeth Jones Suttle 67 years
Mable Elizabeth Jones Suttle, 67, of Montross died Saturday, June 26, 2004. Mrs. Suttle was a member of Grant United Methodist Church and was the widow of Alvin Wilkins Suttle.
She is survived by a son, Michael J. Suttle of Montross; two daughters, Linda S. Fallin and Karen S. Taylor, both of Montross; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Suttle; three brothers, Earl V. Jones, Edward Jones and George C. Jones; and two sisters, Rose Colligan and Grace Ellis.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, at Welch Funeral Home, Montross. Interment will follow in Grant United Methodist Church cemetery. The family received friends on Tuesday, June 29.

Hugh E. Lee Jr. 75 years
Hugh E. Lee Jr., 75, of Colonial Beach died Saturday, June 25, 2004, at Mary Washington Health Care, Colonial Beach.
He was a technical engineer for Oceanographic in Washington, D.C., where he was born. He retired from the U.S. Navy Reserves, having participated in the Korean conflict and the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a member of the American Legion, Colonial Beach.
He is survived by two daughters, Susan Meadows of Waldorf, Md., and Elizabeth Lass of Clinton, Md.; and one granddaughter, Jessie Meadows of Waldorf, Md.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, June 29, and on Wednesday, June 30, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, Colonial Beach. The Rev. Steve Maddox will officating. Interment was in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suitland, Md.

Velie Smith King 84 years
Velie Smith King, 84, of Lawrence-ville died Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at Heritage Hall Health Care in King George County.
Born in Ankum on Nov. 9, 1919, she was a member of Lawrenceville United Methodist Church, the Women's Auxillary of VFW, and past matron of the Order of Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward King.
Mrs. King and her husband owned and operated King's Auto Service in Lawrenceville until their retirement.
Survivors include two sons, Kenrick King and his wife, Merilyn, of Fredericksburg, David King and his wife, Tammi, of Seattle; five grandchildren, Zane King of Fredericksburg, Beckie Furlough of White Bluff, Tenn., Brittany King and Danielle King, both of Seattle, Wash., and Raymond McLennan of King George; two great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
A funeral was held Friday, June 25, at Williams Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, with Minister Stephen E. Bradley Jr. and Pastor Greg Hand officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Memorial Park.
The family were staying the home of Glennie Bower, 401 S. Hicks St., Lawrenceville, and visitors are welcome.
Memorial donation, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Lawrenceville United Methodist Church, 300 West Church St., Lawrenceville, Va. 23868; the Brunswick Rescue Squad; or to the Lawrenceville Volunteer Fire Department.

Tracey Lynne McCluney Billings Gayle 40 years
Tracey Lynne McCluney Billings Gayle, 40, of King George County passed away Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at her mother's home.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas Gayle; daughters, Meagan McCluney and Rebekah Billings; son, Christopher Billings; mother, Gwen Rustia, and stepfather, Will; father, Gary Brosch, and stepmother, Laura; sister, Shelley Hetzer and her husband, Ken; stepbrothers, Brian Rustia and his wife, Meghean, and William Rustia and his wife, Nancy; and a stepsister, Laurie Pappancino.
Friends may call at Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Blvd., Woodbridge, on Thursday, June 24, and Friday, June 25, with a funeral. Interment was private.
