Beulah B. Yates Farmer
VANSANT -- Beulah B. Yates Farmer, 78, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, in Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands. She was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and a daughter of the late Andrew V. "Andy" and May Hagy Yates. She was a member of Vansant Baptist Church and the widow of Eugene V. "Shorty" Farmer. Surviving are a son, Phillip Farmer of Richlands; six sisters, Gladys Clemens of Jonesboro, Ga., Goldie Coffey and Agnes Farmer, both of Leemaster, Va., Bonnie Worley of Cedar Bluff, Betty Johnson of Minneapolis and Thelma Henry of Jackson, Mich; two brothers, Ted Yates of Gaithersburg, Md., and Bill Yates of Pontiac, Mich.; three grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; three step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Vansant Baptist Church. The Rev. Stan Parris and Dr. David A. Hoagland will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain Valley Memorial Park in Big Rock, Va. Mrs. Farmer was also preceded in death by a son, Eugene Farmer Jr.; two sisters, Susie Lawson and Alma Love Ratliff; and three brothers, Warren G. Yates, Olin Yates and Marshall Yates. Among survivors are a daughter-in-law, Susan Farmer of Richlands; three grandchildren, Vickie Cline, Gina Lunsford and Amber Farmer; and a former daughter-in-law, Judy Whited Farmer of Leemaster, Va. Pallbearers will be nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be Clark Cox, Lamar Cox, Joe Breeding, James Keene, Kermit Rowe, Earl Looney, Howard Anderson, Jessie Cline, Randy Vandyke, Jerry Elswick, Danny Elswick, Jackie Kinder, Bob Cline, Leon Looney and Johnny Boyd. Friends may call at 5 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel, where services will be held at 7 p.m. The body will be taken to Vansant Baptist church at noon Tuesday. Grundy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ira R. Vandyke
DORAN, Va. -- Ira R. Vandyke, 67, died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, in a Salem, Va., hospital. He was born in Buchanan County, a son of the late Stevie and Pearl Keen Vandyke. He was a retired coal miner, formerly employed by Jewell Ridge Coal Corp. at Jewell Valley, Va. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local 7327 and Richlands Lodge 318 AF&AM. He was the widower of Viola Adams Vandyke. Surviving are his wife, Jeanette Boyd Jamison Vandyke; two sons, Roger Vandyke of Whitewood, Va., and Michael Vandyke of Claypool Hill, Va.; a daughter, Charlene Tolliver of Jewell Ridge; four stepdaughters, Connie Endicott of Richlands, Kim Proffitt of Red Ash, Va., Sherry Jamison of Cedar Bluff and Dreama Smith of Raven; two stepsons, Bobby Jamison of Doran, Va., and Jeff Jamison of Richlands; three sisters, Gracie Remines and Dale Dunford, both of Tazewell, Va., and Daisey Bogle of Princeton, W.Va.; a brother, Buford Vandyke of Tazewell, Va.; six grandchildren; and seven step-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff. The Revs. Dewey Ward and Clell Daniels will officiate. Burial will be in Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill. Mr. Vandyle was also preceded in death by a daughter, Diana Lynn Vandyke. Among survivors are six grandchildren, Ryan Tolliver, Brett Vandyke, K.T. Vandyke, Joshua Tolliver, Keisha Tolliver and Mikayla Vandyke. Pallbearers will be Anthony Endicott, Mike Proffitt, Chester Underwood, Danny Vandyke, Ryan Tolliver, Brett Vandyke and Jeff Jamison. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Dallwood, Dr. Park, Dr. Barker and Clifton Plaster. Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday in Singleton Funeral Service.

Walter R. Branham
VANSANT - Walter R. Branham, 57, of the Bear Branch section of Route 2, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999, in Buchanan General Hospital. He was born in Pike County, Ky., a son of the late John Branham and Irene Lynn Coleman Branham Ratliff. He lived most of his life in Buchanan County and was a member of Dry Fork Primitive Baptist Church. He was a disabled coal miner employed in the coal industry for several years as a mine foreman. He was a U.S. Army veteran during the Vietname War, serving six years as a military policeman. He was a member of John Ratliff Post 164 of the American Legion and Childs Gentry Post 7360 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Surviving are his wife, Thelma Joyce Childress Branham; two daughters, Rebecca Joyce Branham and Martha Lynn Jackson, both of Vansant; a son, William Robert Branham of Vansant; a sister, Marie Wilson of Raven, Va.; a brother, John Ratliff of Oakwood, Va.; a half-sister, Christine Greenway of Harrisonburg, Pa.; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Dry Fork Primitive Baptist Church by Grundy Funeral Home. Elders Elmer Brown, Garnell Gilbert, Don Stacy and Delford Ward will officiate. The body will be taken to the church Wednesday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Childress Family Cemetery on Bear Branch, near Vansant, with full military rites by members of John Ratliff Post 164 of the American Legion. Mr. Branham was also preceded in death by two-half brothers, Ezra Ratliff and Marion Ratliff Jr. Grundy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Abbie Vandyke
PATTERSON, Va. -- Funeral services for Abbie Vandyke will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Buchanan Funeral Service Chapel at Keen Mountain, Va. The Revs. Jack Ward and Stan Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Hinkle Family Cemetery on Upper Big Branch in Patterson. Mrs. Vandyke, 91, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, in a Buchanan County Hospital. She was born in Buchanan County, a daughter of the late Thomas Newton and Hettie Rosalie Horn Keen and was the widow of Joe Wheeler Vandyke. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Surviving are four sons, H.C. Vandyke and C.B. Vandyke, both of Pilgrim Knob, Va., Lewis Vandyke of Abingdon and Dennis Vandyke of Patterson, Va.; five daughters, Mrs. Jack (Evelyn) Ward of Pilgrim Knob, Mrs. Lawrence (Ida) Childress, Mrs. Dennie (Jean) Leonard, and Mrs. Donald (Virgie) Keen, all of Patterson, and Mrs. Otis (Truly) Ball of Dearborn, Mich.; 25 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Vandyke was also preceded in death by three sisters; a brother; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday in Buchanan Funeral Service.

Amos Junior Clifton
Johnson CITY -- Amos Junior Clifton, 69, of 312 W. Maple St., died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, in James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was born in Buchanan County, a son of the late Perry G. and Alice Brown Clifton. He was a retired coal miner, a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War, a member of the VFW in Tazewell, Va., and of the Holiness faith. Surviving are three sisters, Ruby Marshall of Pounding Mill, Va., Lorraine Putnman of Berea, Ohio, and Nadine Minton of North Tazewell, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be conducted Friday at 10 a.m. in the National Cemetery in Mountain Home, Tenn. The Rev. H. Wayne Hunter will officiate. Morris-Baker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Gary Wayne Blankenship
GRUNDY -- Gary Wayne Blankenship, 49, of the Hobbs Branch section, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999, in Buchanan General Hospital. He was born in Buchanan County and was a son of Mays Street Blankenship of Rowe, Va., and the late Ira Arnold Blankenship. He was a member of Little Prater Church of Christ and was employed as a cable splicer. Surviving, besides his mother, are his wife, Patricia Ann Blankenship; two daughters, Stephanie Lee Holland of Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and Tonya Michelle Blankenship of Grundy; a sister, Jo Ann Byram of Crozet, Va.; and Ron Blankenship of Oakwood, Va. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. in Little Prater Church of Christ by Grundy Funeral Home. Evangelist Michael Trent and the Rev. Ancil Childress will officiate. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Va. Mr. Blankenship was a loving husband and father. Pallbearers will be Nickolas Blankenship, Corbett Ratliff, Scott Byram, Ricky Osborne, Rush Sammons, Lonnie Compton, James Hess and Mike Lewis. Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Blankenship, Cecil Roark, Ronny Byram, Danny Charles, Roger Fletcher, Allen Blankenship, James Street, Jim Taylor, Guy Shortridge, Dr. Amjad Hussain and Thomas Holland III. Blankenship ROWE, Va. -- Herbert McKinley Blankenship, 69, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999, in Buchanan General Hospital in Grundy. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and a son of the late James Harrison and Bertha Street Blankenship. He was employed by the O.K. Coal Co. in Harman, Va., and a member of United Mine Workers of America Local 7025. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of American Legion Post 164 at Grundy. Surviving are a daughter, Teresa Parish of Grundy; a son, Jeffrey Blankenship of Dublin, Va.; a brother, Granville E. Blankenship of Rowe; three nieces; and two nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in Honaker Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Ancil Childress and Arvil Arwood will officiate. Burial will be in Street Cemetery in Rowe. Pallbearers will be Tom Shortridge, Charlie Deel, Ron Keen, Ronnie McGlothlin, Ralph Childress and Harlis Keen. ROWE, Va. -- Funeral services for Herbert McKinley Blankenship will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in Honaker Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Ancil Childress and Arvil Arwood will officiate. Burial will be in Street Cemetery in Rowe. Mr. Blankenship, 69, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999, in Buchanan General Hospital in Grundy. Pallbearers will be Tom Shortridge, Charlie Deel, Ron Keen, Ronnie McGlothlin, Ralph Childress and Harlis Keen. Honorary pallbearers will be Ervin Stiltner, Dallas McGlothlin, Randy McGlothlin and Tommy McGlothlin. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Friday in Honaker Funeral Home.

Charles Edward Hutton Sr.
Charles Edward Hutton Sr., 64, of Bristol Virginia died Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, at his home. He was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area, a retired welder with Strongwell with 20 years of service and a U.S. Air Force veteran. He attended the Old Airport Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Leona M. Hutton; a daughter, Mrs. Guy (Teresa) Hall of Bristol Tennessee; a son, Charles Edward "Chuck" Hutton Jr. of Bristol Tennessee; two sisters, Thelma Buchanan and Louise Heffinger, both of Bristol Tennessee; three brothers, David C. Hutton Jr. of Bristol Tennessee, and Harold D. Hutton and Vernon Hutton, both of Bristol Virginia; a grandson; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 8 p.m. in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Coy Wise will officiate. Mausoleum services and entombment will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Mountain View Mausoleum Chapel with military honors by Patton-Crosswhite VFW Post 6975 of Bristol. Among survivors are a grandson, Richard Travis Hall of Bristol Tennessee. Pallbearers will be Paul Thompson, Doug Fleenor, Dave Hatcher, Bill Overfelt, Harmon Watson and Jim Weaver. Honorary pallbearers will be the Rev. Tom Hay and doctors and nursing staff of Wellmont Hospice. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday before the chapel services in Weaver Funeral Home.

Opal M. Mullins
CLINCHCO, Va. -- Opal M. Mullins, 77, of Route 1, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 1999, at her home. She was born in Buchanan County, a daughter of the late John Henry and Rosabell Arrington Viers. She was the widow of Warren E. Mullin, a member of Sandlick Presbyterian Church and a homemaker. Surviving are three sons, Jack Mullins of Brunswick, Ga., Barry Mullins of Haysi and Mark Mullins of Winchester, Ky.; five sisters, Gladys Edwards and Alberta Yates, both of Brichleaf, Va., Maxie Viers of Prater, Va., Allene L. Owens of Newark, Ohio, Faye Adkins of Holland, Mich.; two brothers, Lacy Viers of Prater, Va., and Clayton Viers of Hartland, Mich.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Haysi Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Joe Glenn Sluss, Roger Sloce and Ron Creech will officiate. Pallbearers will be Richie Yates, Danny Yates, Steve Viers, Anthony Anderson, John Viers and Fayne Edwards. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home, where a service will be held at 7 p.m. Haysi Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Catherine Honaker
WHITEWOOD, Va. -- Funeral services for Mary Catherine Honaker will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands. The Revs. Troy Lester and Lawrence Horn will officiate. Burial will be in Ferrell Family Cemetery on Horn Mountain, near Whitewood. Mrs. Honaker, 86, died Monday, Oct. 25, 1999, at her home. She was born in Buchanan County, a daughter of the late Wick and Alta Stevenson Ferrell, both Buchanan County natives. She lived most all of her life in the Whitewood area and was the widow of Carl Honaker. Surviving are three daughters, Jeanne Garrett of Arlington, Va., and Yvonne White and Debbie Estes, both of Catawba, N.C.; four sons, Shaw Honaker and Lonnie Honaker, both of Pounding Mill, Va., Jack Honaker of Oakwood, Va., and Don Honaker of the home; two sisters, Maze Boardwine of Pulaski, Va., and Hazel Hylton of Tazewell, Va.; a brother, Sam Ferrell of Pulaski; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Honaker was also preceded in death by seven sisters; and three brothers. Pallbearers will be Harold Cole, Junior Boyd, Ronnie Rife, Allen Keen, Harold Boyd and Tony Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be Trever Cole, Travis Cole and Allen Addison. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Thursday in Hurst-Scott Funeral Home.
