Melvin D. Tatum
The funeral for Melvin Detroit Tatum, 68, of 533 Rock Hill Community Road, Bassett, who died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at his home, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Collins Funeral Chapel at Bassett with the Rev. Harold Carelock Jr. and Minister Curtis Price officiating. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Gardens.
Friends are being received at the home and the family will be at the funeral home to receive friends for an hour before the service Saturday.
Tatum was born on July 16, 1937, in Rockingham County, N.C., to Oledies Tatum Clanton of Fieldale. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Marshall Clanton on June 8, 1999.
He graduated from Carver High School in 1957 and worked for 37 years at Bassett Chair Co. as an assistant foreman in the veneering department. Afterwards he worked 10 years at Tultex. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Fieldale.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Frances DeShazo Tatum of the home; three daughters, Pamela McClain, Janet Price and Serina Tatum, all of Bassett; a son, Melvin D. Tatum Jr. of Baltimore, Md.; a sister, Ida Gail Clanton of Fieldale; three brothers, Ronald Clanton of Martinsville, Donald Clanton of Baltimore, Md. and James "Berkley" Clanton of Fieldale; and three grandchildren.
Collins Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.

Curtis A. Trull
The funeral for Curtis Amos Trull, 80, of Martinsville, who died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at McKee-Stone Funeral Services. The Rev. Dr. Michael Hatfield will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, and other times at the home at 14 Bondurant St.
Born June 18, 1925, in Patrick County, to Rastus Laney Trull and Callie Plaster Trull. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Harley Trull, Edward Trull, Waller Trull and Ira Trull; and two sisters, Edith Everett Trull and Emma Sue Hill.
He was a World War II Navy veteran and was a barber for 43 years.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Gladys Cannady Trull; a son, Stan Trull of San Marcos, Texas; two daughters, Deborah Skillman of Southport, N.C. and Belinda Howard of Fredericksburg; a brother, R.L. Trull Jr. of Matheny, W.Va.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to: Chatham Heights Baptist Church, 1235 Old Chatham Road, Martinsville, Va. 24112, or American Heart Association, Memorial Gifts, P.O. Box 524, Martinsville, Va. 24114.
McKee-Stone Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.

Benjamin F. Clark
The funeral for Benjamin Franklin "Frank" Clark, 86, of Martinsville, who died Feb. 2, 2006, was held Sunday at Fuller Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Breckenridge officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Matherly, Tommy Pulliam, Oscar Pickral, Chris Garrett, Jay Byrd, Sheldon Mabry, Ronnie Wilson, Walter Harger and James Crigger.
Members of the Adult Men's Sunday School class of Fuller Memorial Baptist Church seved as honorary pallbearers.
Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Clifford E. Griffith
Clifford Eugene Griffith, 65, of 308 Eastview Street, Collinsville, died at home.
Norris Funeral Services and Crematory will announce arrangements.

Ruth M. Iler
The funeral for Ruth Mabis Iler, 83, of Fieldale, who died Feb. 2, 2006, was held Sunday at Collins Funeral Services chapel with Dr. Joe Bryant officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.
Pallbearers were David Price, Randy Schlueter, Dale Hancock, Bill Roberts, Ben Kirkland and Joey Iler.

Bennie R. Lawson
Bennie R. Lawson, 59, of Collinsville, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
He was born in Stuart on Feb. 15, 1946 to Tom Lawson and Mattie Stovall Lawson. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by four sisters, Elva Hazelwood, Mary Holt, Peggy Williams and Carrie Rakes; and a brother, Hanson Lawson.
He was a former employee of Fieldcrest Cannon, Inc. He was a member of One Accord Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Susan R. Lawson of Collinsville; two daughters, Rhonda Gail Owens of Stuart and Teresa L. Martin of Lawsonville, N.C.; a son, Ronnie Keith Lawson of Woolwine; and three sisters, Opal Turner of Patrick Springs, Jewett Bullins of Lawsonville, N.C. and Vergie Lawson of Stuart.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at One Accord Baptist Church with Pastor Phillip Woods officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Norris Funeral Services chapel.
Memorials may be made to One Accord Baptist Church, 3630 Kings Mountain Road, Martinsville, Va. 24112.

Melvin D. Tatum
The funeral for Melvin Detroit Tatum, 68, of Bassett, who died Feb. 1, 2006, was held Saturday at Collins Funeral Services chapel with the Rev. Harold Carelock Jr. officiating and Minister Curtis Price presenting the eulogy. Burial was in the Carver Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Harold Wade, James Saunders, Edward Pilson, Tammia "Buck" Wade, Tommy Warsau, Jeff Draper, Fred Toney, Leon Martin, Douglas Morrison, Bernard Saunders, Moses Finney and Earl Wade.

Winford Talbot
Winford "Reese" Talbot, 72, of Collinsville, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
He was born in N.C. on Aug. 12, 1933 to John Talbot Sr. and Montez Penny Talbot. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy Wright Talbot of the home; a daughter, Cheri D. Gahring of Penn.; two brothers, John Talbot Jr. of Fla. and Walter Talbot of Penn.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 11 am. Tuesday at Bassett Funeral Service chapel with the Rev. Jonathan Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Henry Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends for one hour before the service at the funeral home.
Bassett Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Fletcher B. White
GRETNA -- Fletcher Bernice White, 82, of 1597 Whitefall Road, Gretna, died Friday, Feb. 3, 2006, at V.A. Medical Center in Salem.
He was born in Pittsylvania County on Oct. 25, 1923 to Simon Waller and Sallie Haley Waller. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Jerlean Stephens.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a retired security guard with Burlington Industries. He was an active member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and Senior Choir member.
Surviving are his wife, Catherine White of the home; four daughters, Ruth Sandidge of Lynchburg, Sandra Rice and Ernestine White, both of Hurt and Deborah White of Danville; four sons, Jimmie White and Larry White, both of Woodbridge, Fletcher B. White Jr. of Waynesboro and Timmie White of Altavista; a sister, Hazel Dawson of Martinsville; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Airy Baptist Church with the Rev. R.P. King officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with full military honors given by VFW Post 4165 and DAV 46 of Altavista.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 3-7 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home in Gretna.

Herbert C. Wood
Herbert Conner Wood, 86, of 1331 Powell Road, Ridgeway, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
He was born in Patrick County on Jan. 8, 1920 to Conner Wood and Clema Martin Wood. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a self-employed millwright and farmer and was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Curry Wood of the home; two daughters, Patricia Somers of Ridgeway and Carolyn Owens of Annapolis, Md.; a son, Keith Wood of Elberta, Ala.; two sisters, Francis Garrett of Eden and Janice Siler of Salisbury; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Overlook Cemetery in Eden N.C.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. at Fair Funeral Home in Eden.
