Teddy Ray Mounts
HURLEY, Va. -- Teddy Ray Mounts, 37 years of age, of the Main Knox Section, passed away Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of Mrs. Georgia Blankenship Mounts of Hurley and the late Earnest Mounts. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and a former employee of the Village Hardware. Mr. Mounts is survived by his mother, Georgia Blankenship Mounts, Hurley; one daughter, Brittany Rene Mounts, Richlands, Va.; four sisters, Ruby Gail Duty, Hurley, Karen Lynn Hensley, Hurley, Pamela Denise Sullivan, Hurley, and Jennifer Rene Stacy, Hurley; one brother, Earnest Mounts Jr., Hurley; six nieces; and six nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Timothy and Stanley Mounts; and one sister, Patricia Mounts. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the North Springs Old Regular Baptist Church, Wolford, Va., with Elders Roscoe Crouse, Curtis Crouse and George Baker officiating, with burial to follow in the Harlan Blankenship Cemetery, Wolford. Friends may call at the North Springs Old Regular Baptist Church Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. Active pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be David Duty Jr., Rick Hensley, Matthew Church, Jamie Stacy, Brad Duty, Steven Duty, Corey Cooper and Richard Mounts. There will be services at the church Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m. Grundy Funeral Home of Grundy is in charge of all arrangements.

Mrs. Stella C. Meadows
CLIFFIELD, Va. -- Mrs. Stella C. Meadows, 88, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, at a Tazewell, Virginia hospital following a brief illness. She was born in Buchanan County, Va., and was a daughter of the late Burb and Aleta McGrady Cooper, both Buchanan County natives. She had made her home in the Cliffield area the past 43 years and attended the First Assembly of God Church in Tazewell, Va. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. John Howard Meadows; one granddaughter, Norma Jean Cox; four sisters, Mrs. Lena Jackson, Mrs. Ethel Jackson, Mrs. Agnes Nelson and Mrs. Juanita Childress; also three brothers, Mr. Ted Cooper, Mr. Raymond (Jim) Cooper and Mr. Burb Cooper Jr. Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. David (Eleanor) Gustafson of Richlands, Mrs. Kenneth (Beulah Carole) Griffith of Jacksonville, N.C., and Mrs. Iva Jean Cox of Moneta, Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Nora Day of Jewell Ridge, Va., and Mrs. Sadie Stevenson of Northern Virginia; two granddaughters, Teresa Cox Shaw and Mary Sue Cox Johnson; and two great-grandchildren, Christina Johnson and Clifton Johnson also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with Rev. Terry Phipps and Rev. Everett Wayne Mullins officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. Pallbearers will be Vincent Day, Ralph Hagy, Arnold T. Short, Clyde Roberts, Jimmy Jackson, Glenn Blankenship, Roy Kinder and Harvey Claypool. Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Harrison, B.J. Rose, Jack Harrison and Lynwood McGlothlin. Friends may call at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands after 6 p.m. Wednesday. Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands is in charge of arrangements.

Delsa Conn Coleman Wean
BASTAIN, Va. -- Delsa Conn Coleman Wean, 94, formerly of Hurley, Va., passed away Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, at her son's residence in Bastain following an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County, Nov. 6, 1906, the daughter of the late Joe Conn and Mary Dotson Conn, she attended the Grundy Presbyterian School. She was a member of the Sulfur Springs Primitive Baptist Church of Paw Paw, Hurley, Va., a homemaker and a loving mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Anthony Coleman; her second husband, Claude Wean; one son, William Anthony Coleman Jr.; one daughter, Ann Coleman; and two brothers, Richard Conn and Arthur Conn. She is survived by three sons, Benny R. Coleman of Bastian, Robert S. Coleman of Christiansburg, Va., and Richard Douglas Coleman of Seattle, Wash.; three sisters, Pearl Powell of Bluefield, W.Va., and Elsie Smith and Hazel Eades, both of Hurley; and one brother, Joe Conn of Hurley. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at 1 p.m. with the Elders Elmer Brown and Jimmy Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain Valley Memorial Park at Big Rock, Va. Active pallbearers will be family and friends. The body will remain at the funeral home where friends may call after 6 p.m. Wednesday evening with services at 7 p.m. The family of Delsa Conn Coleman Wean is being served by Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home of Grundy.

Mrs. Nancy Mae Lewis Jackson
RAVEN, Va. -- Mrs. Nancy Mae Lewis Jackson, 97, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, at her home following a lengthy illness. She was born in Buchanan County, Va., and was a daughter of the late Cornelius (Nealy S.) and Randy Jane Simmons Osborne, both Buchanan County natives. She had lived in Union, W.Va., for 30 years, moving to Raven 43 years ago, and was a member of the Richlands First Presbyterian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Mr. Willard C. Lewis, and second husband, Mr. Charlie Jackson, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survivors are: two stepdaughters, Mrs. Robert (Zora Mae) Hillman of Lebanon, Va., and Mrs. Alvis (Susie) Lowe of Lebanon; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with Rev. David Danford and Rev. Joe Copolo officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. Members of the Mens Bible Class of First Presbyterian Church will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands after 6 p.m. Thursday. Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Thomas William VanDyke Jr.
GRUNDY, Va. -- Mr. Thomas William VanDyke Jr., 72, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, in a Grundy hospital following a long illness. Born in Buchanan County, Va., he was the son of the late Thomas William and Mattie McClanahan VanDyke. He was of the Pentecostal faith and was one of the original Vandyke Quartet gospel singers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cynthia Chambers VanDyke; one brother, David VanDyke; and one sister, Artis Ratliff. Mr. VanDyke is survived by: one stepdaughter, Irene Chambers of Grundy; one brother, Gilmer VanDyke and wife, Eula, of Defiance, Ohio; two sisters, Edith Keen and Betty Young of Raven, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Linda VanDyke of Keen Mountain, Va., and Ruth Bower of Grundy; a special friend, Hester DeLong of Hurley, Va.; and several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at 1 p.m. at Buchanan Funeral Service Chapel at Keen Mountain, Va., with Rev. Ancil Childress and Rev. Jimmy Cole officiating. Burial will follow at Antioch Cemetery at Keen Mountain. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at Buchanan Funeral Service at Keen Mountain Thursday from 6-9 p.m. with a song service at 7 p.m. Buchanan Funeral Service at Keen Mountain is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Johnie W. Fletcher
VANSANT, Va. -- Mr. Johnie W. Fletcher, 54, passed away Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, in an Abingdon hospital. Born April 4, 1946, in Buchanan County, Va., he was a son of John Quay and Virginia Fletcher of Vansant. He was a coal miner employed by Consolidated Coal Company at the VP 8 mine and was a member of UMWA Local 2232. Although he never united with the church, he was a believer in the Primitive Baptist Church and loved the old-time preaching and singing. He loved the Lord Jesus and believed in salvation by His mercy and grace. He was a caring husband and father and will be sadly missed by all who loved him. He will forever be in our thoughts and we will treasure memories of the years we were blessed to share with him and we hope someday we will have eternity to spend with him. In addition to his parents, survivors include his wife, Betty Wilson Fletcher of the home; one son, Gregory Fletcher of Princeton, W.Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Paul (Nadine) Smith of Lynchburg, Va., and Mrs. Don (Geraline) Hess of Virginia Beach, Va.; one brother, James Ferrel Fletcher of Vansant; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Sunday in Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Elder George Ben Combs and Elder Garnell Gilbert officiating. Entombment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, Va. Pallbearers will be Guy Fletcher, Ersel Fletcher, Bernard Fletcher, Ronnie Fletcher, Henry Cantrell and Randy Hess. Friends may call at Honaker Funeral Home after 7 p.m. Saturday.

Daryl McClanahan
GRUNDY, Va. -- Daryl McClanahan, 50 years of age, of the Poplar Creek Section passed away Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, in Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, Tenn., following an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of Dewey H. and Pearl Stiltner McClanahan, Route 2, Grundy. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County, of the Baptist faith and a disabled coal miner. Mr. McClanahan is survived by his parents, Dewey H. and Pearl Stiltner McClanahan, Route 2, Grundy; one daughter, Michelle Renee McClanahan, Grundy; two sons, Dewey E. McClanahan, U.S. Army stationed in Alaska, and Timothy D. McClanahan, Bristol, Tenn.; three sisters, Judy Siiltner, Route 2, Grundy, Betty Lester, Grundy and Connie Lester, Grundy; two brothers, Steve McClanahan, Grundy and Johnny McClanahan, Grundy. He is also survived by one grandson. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at 1 p.m. at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Elders Frank Newsome, William McClanahan, Jim Blankenship, Toby Bailey and Theodore Looney officiating with burial to follow in Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, Va. Friends may call at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday evening at 6 p.m. Active pallbearers will be Don Scammell, Danny Scammell, Larry Scammell, Shawn Lester, Danny Roger Stiltner Jr., Anthony McClanahan, Ronnie Lane, Bradley Lester, Larry Lane, Randy Lane, Darrell Lane, Charlie McClanahan and Jerry McClanahan. There will be services at the funeral home chapel Sunday and Monday evenings at 7 p.m. Grundy Funeral Home of Grundy is in charge of all arrangements.

Carson Columbus "Lum" Ratliff
GRUNDY, Va. -- Carson Columbus "Lum" Ratliff, 88 years of age, of the Little Prater Section, passed away Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, in Buchanan General Hospital in Grundy following an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Charlie Reece and Cosby Fields Ratliff. He was a life-long resident of Buchanan County, a member of Little Prater Church of Christ and a retired, self-employed trucker. Mr. Ratliff was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle McClanahan Ratliff, May 24, 2000. He is survived by three daughters, Pauline Lester and husband Charles Lester, Big Rock, Va., Beulah Ann Dunlap and husband Jerry Dunlap, Grundy, and Blanche Thompson and husband Jerry Thompson, Grundy; five sons, Eugene Ratliff and wife Elowese Ratliff, Haysi, Va., Vernon Ratliff and wife Sharon Ratliff, Grundy, Clinton Ratliff and wife Ann Ratliff, Rhoadesville, Va., Larry Ratliff and wife Jean Ratliff, Nacogdoches, Texas, and Ray Ratliff and wife Sue Ratliff, Grundy; two sisters, Clementine Gore, Akron, Ohio, and Hazel Anderson, Grundy; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by five sisters, Ida Ratliff, Cora Colley, Eliza Dales, Sarah Jane Compton and Maxie Ratliff; and two brothers, Henry and Bethley Ratliff. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Evangelist Michael Trent officiating with burial to follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, Va. Friends may call at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Saturday evening at 6 p.m. with a song service at 7 p.m. Active pallbearers will be Clecoe Ratliff, Monacoe Ratliff, Ronnie Ratliff, Gregory Lester, Michael Dunlap, Robert Dotson and Matt Heldreth. Polly Catherine VanDyke Keen
BAPTIST VALLEY, Va. -- Polly Catherine VanDyke Keen, 79, formerly of Keen Mountain, Va., died Feb. 14, 2001, at the home of her daughter in Baptist Valley, following a brief illness. Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late Patton and Catherine VanDyke. She was born on Dec. 5, 1921, and spent most of her life in Keen Mountain. Mrs. Keen had made her home in Baptist Valley the past five years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Berlin Keen; one daughter, Peggy Lou Keen; one twin sister, Mary Briggs; and one granddaughter, Rebecca Deskins. She is survived by four daughters, Marie Deskins of Baptist Valley, Joyce Worley of Rosedale, Va., Gaylene Morrow of Paintsville, Ky., and Brenda Phillips of East Bend, N.C.; one sister, Bernice Keen of Doran, Va.; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at the Buchanan Funeral Services Chapel in Keen Mountain, with the Rev. Ancil Childress and the Rev. T.R. Stump officiating. Burial will follow in the Esaw Rife Cemetery at Keen Mountain. Pallbearers will be Mikael Matney, Remire Deskins, Wendell Deskins, Jack Shortt, Reece Proffitt and Johnny Proffitt. The family will receive friends at the Buchanan Funeral Service in Keen Mountain from 6 until 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday. There will be a song service at 7 p.m. both nights. Mr. Hensley E. Street
ROGERSVILLE, Tenn. -- Funeral services for Mr. Hensley E. Street will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Va., with Rev. Ancil Childress officiating. Interment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon. Mr. Street, 73, formerly of Rowe, Va., passed away Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, in a Rogersville hospital. Born Feb. 11, 1928, in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Grover C. and Mary A. Blankenship Street. He had resided in Rogersville, Tenn., for the past 10 years, moving there from Rowe, Va. He was a disabled coal miner, employed by Jewell Ridge Coal Company. He was a member of the UMWA Local 7327. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Street; four sisters; and five brothers. Survivors include three daughters, Anna Hagerman of Salsibury, N.C., Brenda Rose of Woodleaf, N.C., and Judy Shortridge of Rowe; four sons, David Street of Paynesville, W.Va., Lloyd Street, Jeffrey Street and Ronald Vance, all of Rowe; one sister, Ethel Street of Richlands, Va.; 21 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren also survive.

Mrs. Fredia Deel O'Quinn
VANSANT, Va. -- Mrs. Fredia Deel O'Quinn, 77, passed away Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at her home following a long illness. Born in Buchanan County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Martha Arrington Deel. She was of the Primitive Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Carnel Lund, and one brother, Beacher L. Deel. Mrs. O'Quinn is survived by her husband of 51 years, Mr. George W. O'Quinn; one son, Michael O'Quinn and wife Glema of Vansant; one daughter, Mrs. Jess (Shelby Jean) O'Quinn of Hudson, Fla.; grandchildren, Michael O'Quinn and Krystal L. O'Quinn; and special brother, Landon Colley of Rosedale, Va. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, in the Buchanan Funeral Service Chapel at Keen Mountain, Va., with Elders Landon Colley and Junior Davis officiating. Entombment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, Va. Pallbearers will be Shannon O'Quinn, John Turner, Terry Stanley, Bennie Stanley, Allen Turner and Russell Turner. Honorary pallbearers will be Hassell Coleman, Dr. J.G. Patel, Banner Church, Dr. J.P. Sutherland Jr. and Krystal O'Quinn. The family will receive friends at the Buchanan Funeral Service at Keen Mountain from 6-9 p.m. Sunday with service at 7 p.m. Buchanan Funeral Service at Keen Mountain is in charge of arrangements.
