Coy H. Adams
Coy Hylton Adams, 58, of Bassett, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006, at his home.
He was born in Patrick County on Aug. 30, 1947, to Harry Lee Adams and Lillie Reynolds Adams Morrison. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Leonard Morrison.
Surviving are three brothers, Lawrence L. Adams, James E. Adams and Douglas W. Adams, all of Bassett; and several nieces and nephews.
The service will be private.

Cowan Baker
Cowan Baker, 73, of 348 Haislip Lane, Axton, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006, at his home.
He was born in Welch, W.Va., on May 13, 1932, to Robert Baker and Maude Watson Baker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Cowan S. "Bud" Baker; a daughter, Chris Ann Baker; and a brother, Harold Baker.
He was a retired mine worker and former member of the United Mine Workers of America. He was a member of Clearview Gospel Mission.
Surviving are his wife, Carol G. Baker of the home; two sons, Todd Frymire of Axton and Steve Baker of Washington state; seven daughters, Lila Nunn of Ridgeway, Michelle Palmer, Pamela Price and Heather Schrock, all of Martinsville, Regina Hicks and Veronica Baker, both of Princeton, W.Va., and Belma Reed of Whitewood; five brothers, Ed Baker of Rocky Mount, Gerald Baker and Michael Baker of Monroe, W.Va., Bobby Baker of Athens, W.Va., and Darris Baker of Raysal, W.Va.; two sisters, Yvonne Hamilton of Monroe and Ruby Hall of Bartley, W.Va.; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Roselawn Burial Park with the Rev. Susan Adkins officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Sonya R. Barner
FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Sonya Renee Barner, 25, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, at Plantation General Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale.
She was born in Goldsboro, N.C., to Lena Barner of Eden, N.C., and Larry Francis of Florida.
Surviving, in addition to her parents, are a daughter, Amaya Barner of Eden; a son, Vladimer Barner of Florida; a brother, Edward "Boopsie" Barner of North Carolina; her maternal grandmother, Louise Golden of Eden; and her paternal grandmother, Althea Francis of West Palm Beach, Fla.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Friendship Baptist Church. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends for one hour before the service and after the burial at the church.

Cynthia M. Bonniwell
The funeral for Cynthia Maxie Bonniwell, 39, formerly of Martinsville, who died Feb. 13, 2006, was held Friday at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Bud Sedwick officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.
Pallbearers were Danny Maxie, Teddy Kuczinski, Tony Owens, Mike Hodge, Jimmy "Bo" Hodge, Jeff Barrow, David Bonhams and Johnny O'Dell.
Deborah F. Bullins
The funeral for Deborah K. Fulcher "Nannie-O" Bullins, 55, of Martinsville, who died Feb. 15, 2006, was held Saturday at Community Funeral Services chapel with the Rev. Gary Shupe officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.
Pallbearers were Clyde Hundley, Mike Hundley, Jermiah Thomas, Randy Robertson, John Denton Sr., John Denton Jr., Steve Butler and Ashley Gilbert.
Robert D. Edwards
The funeral for Robert David "Honeybun" Edwards, 55, of Martinsville, who died Feb. 13, 2006, was held Saturday at Mountain View Baptist Church with the Revs. Ray Moorefield, Van Moore, David Freeman, Stanley Waddell and Charles Harrison and Minister Jason Alverson and Paul T. Kennedy Jr officiating. Burial was in the Kendrick family cemetery.
Pallbearers were Todd Turner, Dale Kendrick, Mike Emerson, Jason Williams, Gary Hendricks, Bill Shupe and Jason Alverson.

Elmore Giles
Elmore Giles, 74, of 817 Olympia St., Martinsville, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, N.C.
He was born in Kingstree, S.C., on June 23, 1931, to Isiah Giles and Lilliean Chandler Giles. His parents preceded him in death.
He retired as a laborer from Virginia Glass Products after 10 years of service. He was a member of Mount Sinai Apostolic Church of Christ in God, and was a member of the Usher Board and Missionary Board.
Surviving are his wife, Julia Giles of Martinsville; three daughters, Sylvia Hunt of Greensboro and Gloria Giles and Dora Giles, both of Martinsville; two sons, Harlan Giles of Richmond and Elmore Giles Jr. of Martinsville; three sisters, Rebecca Davis of Norfolk, Maxriah Fleming of Kingstree and Mattie Penn of Martinsville; two brothers, the Rev. William Giles of Philadelphia and Joseph Giles of Charleston, S.C.; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hairston Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. William Giles officiating. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends for one half hour before the service and other times at the home.
Joe H. Hairston Jr.
Joe Henry Hairston Jr. was born in Filbert W.Va., on April 27, 1930, to Joe Hairston Sr. and Alice Hairston. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Hairston; two brothers, Nathaniel Hairston and Nicholas Hairston.
He attended Gary High School in Gary, W.Va., and served in the Korean Conflict. He was employed by U.S. Steel in Gary and was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Filbert; Rock Hill Baptist Church in Gary; and First Baptist Church of Westbury in New York.
Surviving are his wife, Carrie Hairston; four sisters, Lillian
Johnson of Spencer, Va., Hattie Ross and Sophia Macfee, both of Detroit, Mich., and Veola
Jones of Martinsville, Va.; three aunts; a granddaughter; three great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Westbury, N.Y.
The family will receive friends for one hour before the funeral at the church.

Margaret Hairston
Margaret Hairston, 88, of 271 Callaway Drive, Fieldale, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.

Lorene D. Holt
Lorene Dancy Holt, 82, of Martinsville, died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006, at Blue Ridge Rehab Center in Martinsville.
She was born in Burlington, N.C. on June 3, 1923, to James Franklin Dancy and Rita Craven Dancy Via. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She was a graduate of Martinsville High School and retired from Bassett-Walker Knitting Co. with over 30 years of service. She was a member of Kearfott Memorial Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and treasurer. She was also a member of the choir and the ladies trio.
Surviving are a daughter, Janet F. Holt of Martinsville; a son, Rick L Holt of Martinsville; a sister, Opal D. Blevins of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a brother, Roscoe Dancy of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Roselawn Burial Park with the Rev. George L. Hearn officiating.
The family will receive friends at the home of her son, Rick Holt, 61 Venna Ave., Martinsville.
