Sample

Okie Lou Brewer Jennings Sample, age 99, died Sunday, Nov. 10, 1996 in Smyth County Community Hospital. She was the mother of the late Pat Jennings Sr.

She is survived by one daughter-in-law, Ann C. Jennings of Marion; four grandchildren: G.C. Jennings, William Pat Jennings Jr., and Richard Jennings, all of Marion, and Mary Ann Jennings Hovis of Oakton; eight great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held today, Nov. 13, at 11 a.m. at Seaver- Brown Chapel with Dr. J.N. Howard officiating. Burial will follow in the Blue Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marion Life Saving Crew, P.O. Box 784, Marion, VA 24354.

Seaver- Brown Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Sayers

Harry S. Sayers, age 74, died Friday, Nov. 8, 1996 in the Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, Tenn.

Mr. Sayers was a member of the Falling Water Baptist Church, a veteran of World War II and a retired owner and operator of Sayers Sand Company. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Clay Sayers.

He is survived by one son, William C. Sayers of Marion; three sisters, Louise Sayers, Sybil S. Slemp and Jean S. Bailey, all of Marion; one grandson, Gregory Allen Sayers of Williamsburg; a special friend, Sara Dickens of Wytheville.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 10, at 3:30 p.m. at Seaver- Brown Chapel with the Rev. Neville Mozingo and the Rev. Tim Boyette officiating. Burial followed in Rose Lawn Cemetery.

Seaver- Brown Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Buskell

Joseph "Joe" Edward Buskell, age 83, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1998 in Smyth County Community Hospital. Mr. Buskell was preceded in death by his wife, Zenna Harrington Buskell.

He is survived by one son, Daniel Buskell of Marion; four sisters-in-law, Eddith Harrington of Sugar Grove, Eula Lampkins of Marion, Gladys Jones of Havre de Grace, Md., and Enola Harrington of Bel Air, Md.; one brother-in-law, Donald Harrington of Sugar Grove; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 4, at 8 p.m. at Seaver- Brown Chapel with the Rev. Harry Leland officiating. Graveside services will be held today, Dec. 5, at 11 a.m. at Rose Lawn Cemetery.

Seaver- Brown Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Gillespie

Jeston Hamm Gillespie, age 75, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998 at her home in Marion.

Mrs. Gillespie was preceded in death by one sister, Beulah Jones, and one brother, Farley Hamm.

She is survived by her husband, Roy E. Gillepsie of Marion; five sisters, Avis Perry and Eva Stamper, both of Lansing, N.C., Elsie Osborne of Rising Sun, Md., Ettie Gilley of BelAir, Md., and Dorthy Perry of Aberdeen, Md.; two brothers, Ralph Hamm of Lansing, N.C., and Barnie Hamm of Jefferson, N.C.; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Dec. 3, at 2 p.m. at Seaver- Brown Chapel with the Rev. Calvin Tabor and the Rev. Frank Bauman officiating. Burial followed in Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Seaver- Brown Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Simms

Mildred "Myd" Simms, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998 at her home in Tampa, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald W. Simms, and her parents, Georgia Kate Staley and Edward E. Buck. Mrs. Simms was a native of Rural Retreat and had been a resident of Tampa since 1926. She was a retired teacher of Hillsborough High School in Tampa.

She is survived by several cousins, including A.P. Hammond Jr., Roanoke, Marguerite B. Keatley, Cumberland, Md., Frances B. Barnett, Wytheville, and Virginia DuRand, St. Paul, Minn.

Graveside services will be held Monday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m. in the West End Cemetery in Wytheville with the Rev. Leland F. Smith of St. John's Episcopal Church officiating.

Barnett's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Woodard

Shelby Jean Woodard, age 43, of Meadowview, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. She was a member of the Reach Out for Christ Church.

Survivors include her husband, Lonnie P. Woodard Sr., Meadowview; three sons, Lonnie Phillip Woodard Jr., Saltville, Danny Clinton Woodard, Meadowview, and Joshua Joel Woodard, Bristol; two daughters, Valerie Victoria Cannon, Meadowview, and Ashley Suzanne Woodard, of the home; her mother, Flora Belle Keith, Broadford; two brothers, Rev. Danny Keith, Broadford, and Rev. Charles Keith, Chilhowie; two sisters, Wanda Ratcliff, Meadowview and Barbara Holmes, Saltville; one sister-in-law, Darlene Tolbert, Blountville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, at the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Kyle French and the Rev. Chester Hensley officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville was in charge of arrangements.

Workman

Hannah A. Workman, age 94, of Saltville, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Saltville.

Survivors include two sons, William A. Workman, Saraland, Ala., and James E. Workman of Hephzibah, Ga.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 4, at the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Williams officiating. Burial followed in Elizabeth Cemetery.

D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville was in charge of arrangements.

Cruff

Robert "Uncle Sam" Cruff, age 85, of Abingdon, died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.

Mr. Cruff was a native of Smyth County and had lived in Bland County before moving to Abingdon several years ago.

Survivors include a nephew, Andrew B. Cruff of Wytheville.

Graveside services will be conducted today, Feb. 17, at 11 a.m. in the Green Spring Cemetery with the Rev. Jerry A. Eggers officiating.

Campbell Funeral Home in Abingdon was in charge of arrangements.

Farrington

Denver L. Farrington, age 75, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

Mr. Farrington was a native of North Carolina and had lived most of his life in Smyth County. He was the owner and operator of Farrington's Motel and the Marion Motel. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served in the European Theatre. He was also a member of the Francis Marion VFW Post 4667.

Survivors include his wife, Eunice Everett Farrington; one daughter and son-in-law, Rev. David and Carol Anderson, Staunton; one stepson and wife, Bill and Brenda Everett, Chesapeake; two sisters, Opal Ghormley, and Jewel Gasdia, both of Ft. Myers, Fla.; three brothers, Howard Farrington, W.L. (Lester) Farrington and Russell Junior Farrington, all of Marion; six grandchildren, Lori Anderson, Rob Anderson, Marc Anderson, Nathan Anderson, Wendy Lee Everett, and Samuel Todd Everett; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 16, at 11 a.m. in Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Anderson and the Rev. Carlton Blankenship officiating. Interment followed in Rosewood Memorial Gardens, Rural Retreat, with military honors being rendered by the Francis Marion VFW Post 4667.

Bradley's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
