Taylor

Sally Olivia Shupe Taylor, age 67, of Marion, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 1996 in the Radford hospital.

Mrs. Taylor was a native of Smyth County and a graduate of the Marion College. She retired from the Southampton/Deerfield Correctional Farm in Capron. She worked at the Presbyterian Board of Christian Education in Richmond for three years and at the Southwestern State Hospital in Marion for many years as a secretary. She was employed by the state of Virginia for a total of 27 years.

Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by her loving husband, Sydney S. Taylor; her father, J.D. Shupe Sr., and her sister, Betty Harris.

Survivors include one son, Michael S. Taylor, Baltimore, Md.; one daughter, Katrinia Brown, Eufaula, Ala.; her mother, Ella Kate Shupe, Marion; two brothers, J.D. Shupe Jr., and John and Janet Shupe, Marion; eight sisters: Mrs. Larry (Mary Lee) Morella, Rockville, Md.; Mrs. Arlen (Lula Kate) Eller, New Market; Mrs. Blackie (Maria) Smith, and Mrs. Bobby (Joan) Snider, both of Glade Spring, Mrs. Peyton (Nette) Campbell, Mrs. Wiley (Jane) Colley, Mrs. Ford (Edith) Sage, and Mrs. Wayne (Helen) Heffinger, all of Marion; four grandchildren: Michelle Harmon, Erin Taylor, Stephanie Brown and Jessica Brown; 22 nieces and nephews, 28 great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 16, at 2 p.m. in Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dan Jividen and the Rev. Mike Sage officiating. Interment followed in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens.

Barnett's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. 

Wymer

William Otis Wymer, age 71, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 1996 at his mother's home in Marion.

He is survived by his mother, Carrie Lee Wymer of Marion; one nephew and wife, Johnny and Mary Carolyn Wymer of Atkins; one niece, Bonnie Jane Smith of Marion; three great-nephews and wife, Johnny A. and Lisa E. Wymer of Atkins, Mike Smith and Chuck Smith; one great-niece, Nina Michelle Wymer, Rockville, Md.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 16, at 2 p.m. at Seaver- Brown Chapel with Minister Basil Hutton officiating. Burial followed in Rose Lawn Cemetery.

Dunford

William "Bill" Dunford, age 58, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 1996 at his home in Marion.

He is survived by one daughter, Jennifer "Jennie" Dunford of Marion; two sisters, Alberta McClure and Dorothy Stamper, both of Marion; four brothers: Rex Dunford of Marathon, Fla., Sherman Dunford, Richard Dunford, both of Marion, and Randy Dunford of Cummings, Ga.; two grandchildren, Michael Devin Dunford and Dakota Channing Dunford; four stepsons, Lester Dunford of Chilhowie, Billy Dunford, David Dunford and Dean Martin, all of Marion; a special friend, Margaret Ann Dunford of Marion.

Graveside services were held Thursday, Dec. 19, at 11 a.m. at Pugh Cemetery in Teas with Dr. William A. Slater officiating.

Seaver- Brown Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Kincer

Geneva Martin Kincer, age 70, of Wytheville, died Monday, Dec. 16, 1996 in a Greensboro, N.C., hospital.

She is survived by one daughter, Betty Whitley, Norwood, N.C.; one son, James Kincer, Marion; two sisters, Wavie Crockett and Brenda Martin, both of Midlothian; two brothers, Don Martin, Rural Retreat, and Jesse Martin, Richmond; two grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 19, at 2 p.m. at the Gillman Funeral Chapel with interment in the Mt. Ephraim Church Cemetery.

Gillman Funeral Chapel in Wytheville was in charge of arrangements.

Lorenzen

Alice King Lorenzen, age 78, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 1996. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Glenn King and Dutch Lorenzen. She was the owner and operator of Lorenzen's Motel in Marion.

She is survived by one sister, Flossie Blevins of Chilhowie; several nieces and nephews; one special little girl, Shai Cullop.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Dec. 22, at 2 p.m. at Seaver- Brown Chapel with the Rev. Neville Mozingo and the Rev. Eugene Baldwin officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Marion Life Saving Crew, P.O. Box 784, Marion, VA 24354. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Seaver- Brown Chapel.

Saltville's Coy Minton dies at 73

James Coy Minton Sr., age 73, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, in Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport, Tenn. He was a member of the Allison Gap First Church of God.

Minton was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Navy and was a veteran of the liberation of the Philippine Islands. He was a charter member of the Hardy Roberts VFW Post 7328.

"Coy Minton was a dedicated member and never missed a meeting unless ill. He worked tirelessly on our Wall of Honor project. He was always willing to perform any service or other program for the Post. I consider him to be one of my best friends and comrades. He will be sadly missed," remarked Post Commander Hugh Helton.

Minton was an active member of the Allison Gap Ruritan Club. Ruritan President R. Phil Collins said, "Coy was a good, dedicated member. He was always the first to volunteer for anything you asked."

"Coy did a lot of physical work around this town, picking up trash, that kind of thing. He loved the town, worked hard for it, and always had the best interest of Saltville at heart," said Saltville Mayor Frank Lewis.

Minton was a member of the Saltville Industrial Development Authority and was a former chairman of the IDA.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Swartz Minton; three daughters, Colleen Ramsey of Tampa, Fla., Ann Blevins of Lebanon, and Vickie Link of Huntsville, Ala.; three sons, James C. "Sonny" Minton Jr. of Oakland, Calif., David Minton of Gastonia, N.C., and Ricky Minton of Saltville. Minton is also survived by a sister, Wanda Olinger, and a brother, Otis Minton, both of Saltville; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 21, at the Allison Gap First Church of God with the Rev. David Mumpower, the Rev. Jim Chapman, and Dr. Woodrow McIntyre officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Rose Cemetery with military rites by the Hardy Roberts VFW Post 7328.

D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville is in charge of arrangements.

Stone

Georgia Barker Stone, age 89, a resident of Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 1996 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

Mrs. Stone was a former resident of Sugar Grove and was a member of the Sugar Grove Baptist Church for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Franklin G. Stone; her parents, Robert and Martha Barker; and her great-grandson, Michael Stone.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Virgie Stone of Christiansburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn and Graham King of Somerville, Tenn.; three grandsons: Nick King and Jeff King of Bartlett, Tenn., and David Stone of Christiansburg; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Wade Edward Barker of Marion; one sister, Nannie Parks of St. Petersburg, Fla.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, at the Sugar Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenny Price officiating. Burial followed in Slemp Cemetery, Sugar Grove.

Wyatt

Ethel Call Wyatt, age 74, widow of Albert F. Wyatt Sr., died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 1996 at her home in Marion.

She is survived by one daughter, Lula Mae Wyatt Gwaltney of Chilhowie; one son, William Ray Wyatt of Marion; two sisters, Al Burnice Bullins of Marion, and Agnes Overbay of Glade Spring; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Friday, Dec. 20, at 11 a.m. at the Round Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Sage officiating.

Seaver- Brown Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
