DiMaggio
Joseph J. DiMaggio, DDS, died Feb. 4, 1997 in Florida.
Dr. DiMaggio had a dental office in Rochester, N.Y., for 30 years. In recent years he retired to Jupiter, Fla. He belonged to the Dental Society of New York. He received an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, and the University of Dental School, Memphis, Tenn.
Dr. DiMaggio was married to the former Patricia J. Dixon, daughter of Jay and Pauline Dixon of Grayson County and spent time in the Grant community of Grayson County.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five daughters and sons-in-law: Nancy Parrinello, Boca, Fla.; Linda and Sam Herne, and Victoria and Albert Pelusio, all of Rochester, N.Y.; Jo Ann and Sean St. John, Charlotte, N.C.; and Patricia DiMaggio, Detroit, Mich.; one son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Kate Abel DiMaggio; 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one brother, Carmen DiMaggio, Boca, Fla.; three sisters and brother-in-law: Millie Iannone, Baltimore, Md., Rose Dean, Houston, Texas, and Gloria and Hugh Butcher, Gatlinburg, Tenn.; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Nancy and Cameron Wolfe, a nephew C.J. Wolfe, all of Marion; several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral mass was held Feb. 8 at St. Joseph's Church, Penfield, N.Y., and entombment was in the Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, Rochester, N.Y.

Lee
Clarence F. Lee Sr., age 69, of Washington D.C., died Monday, March 3, 1997 in Washington Adventist Hospital, Takoma Park, Md.
He was preceded in death by his father, Fred J. Lee; one brother, Ellis Lee, and one sister, Frances Boyden.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara A. Murphy Lee, Washington D.C.; three daughters, Sheryl A. Witherspoon and Tracy A. Lee, both of Washington D.C., and Michele A. Cheek of Hyattsville, Md.; one son, Clarence F. Lee Jr. of Washington D.C.; his mother, Cleo Lee of Sugar Grove; three brothers, Robert, Carl and James Lee, all of Sugar Grove; four sisters, Nancy Purefoy, Shirley Gaston and Lorraine Jackson, all of Marion, and Emily Collins, Plainsville, N.J.; eight grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 7, at 11 a.m. at Matthews Memorial Baptist Church in Washington D.C., with interment in Quantico National Memorial Park.

Richardson
Mary Campbell Cook Richardson, age 79, of Greenville, Del., died Monday, March 3, 1997 at her home.
She was born in Marion on Jan. 12, 1918 to the late George F. and Elsie Campbell Cook. She attended Marion Junior College and Hollands College. She was involved in community and church activities having been a deacon and trustee at Lower Brandywine Presbyterian Church. She was an active member of Chapter E of the PEO Sisterhood.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Graham M. Richardson; three daughters, Janet C. Sky of Lewisville, Texas, Elizabeth R. Troutman of York, Penn., and Mary G. Richardson of Gwynedd Valley, Penn.; four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held today, March 8, at 2 p.m. at Lower Brandywine Presbyterian Church in Centerville, Del. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lower Brandywine Presbyterian Church, 101 Old Kennett Road, Centerville, Del. 19807; Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silverside Road, Wilmington, Del. 19810, or your favorite charity.

Widner
Dorsey Preston Widner, age 67, of Marion, formerly of Rural Retreat, died Wednesday, March 5, 1997 in the Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn.
He was born in Washington County, the son of the late Robert and Ellie Widner. He was a member of the Freedom Tabernacle Baptist Church in Atkins and was a retired auto mechanic with Meredith's Garage in Rural Retreat.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Blevins Widner, of the home; four stepdaughters: Donna Blevins, Chantilly, Teresa Meek, Marion, Rhoda Thomas, Fort Chiswell, and Mary Nickolson, Wauchula, Fla.; four stepsons: Freddy Blevins, Johnny Blevins, Bobby Blevins, and Jimmy Blevins, all of Marion; three sisters, Liney Peake, Ella Kegley, and Fronie Reeves, all of Marion; two brothers, James (Jim) Widner, Rural Retreat, and Bobby Widner, Marion; 17 step-grandchildren, several step-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 7, at 2 p.m. at the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Sage officiating. Interment followed in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat

Williams
James Lewis "Mr. J.L." Williams, age 88, of Matthews, N.C., died Wednesday, March 5, 1997 in Presbyterian Hospital.
Mr.
Williams was born Sept. 26, 1908 in Travelers Rest, S.C., the son of the late Hosea Holmes
Williams and Vintie (Golden) Williams. He was a graduate of North Greenville Academy. He received a full scholarship to play football at the University of South Carolina. Following a knee injury, Mr.
Williams transferred to North Carolina State College in Raleigh where he graduated in June 1932 with honors as the first and perhaps the only student ever to receive two Bachelors Degrees on the same day; one in Civil Engineering and one in Architectural Engineering.
Mr.
Williams spent the War years with the U.S. War Department Corps of Engineers in the "Manhattan District" producing the Atomic Bomb that successfully contributed to the conclusion of World War II.
After the war, he established a successful Architectural-Engineering practice in Marion and remained here until 1958 when he moved the practice to Matthews, N.C., where he was joined by his three sons. Mr.
Williams was baptized in Marion by Dr. Primativo Delgado and was a member of First Baptist Church in Matthews, N.C., at the time of his death.
Mr.
Williams was a registered Engineer and a registered Architect in eight southeastern states during his active business years. He was a Fellow in the American Registered Architects; a member of the American Institute of Architects; Certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards; Certified by the National Council of State Boards of Engineering Examiners. He was a York Rite Mason and a Shriner (Kazim Temple).
He is survived by his wife, Clara Williams; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Jane Williams, and Frank Williams, all of Matthews, N.C., and Bill and Barbara
Williams of Charlotte, N.C.; two daughters and son-in-law, Susan Galpin of Huntsville, Ala., and Katy Peacock and husband George of Garner, N.C.; 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted today, March 8, at 2 p.m. at the mausoleum at Forest Lawn East with the Rev. Ron Prevatte officiating and the Rev. Brad Sallee assisting. Interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund of First Baptist Church of Matthews, P.O. Box 248, Matthews, N.C.

Bridgeman
Mary Susie Bridgeman, age 73, of Marion, died Sunday, March 9, 1997 in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Bridgeman lived most of her life in Smyth County. She worked for the Marion Laundry Company for several years and also worked for Lincoln Aircraft Factory. She was of the Protestant faith.
Survivors include her husband, Walter James Bridgeman; two sons, Jimmy Lee Bridgeman, Sugar Grove, and Michael Dean Bridgeman, Marion; one sister, Ella Mae Winebarger, Marion; two brothers, Oliver Burkett, Sterling, and George Burkett, Speedwell; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, in Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jimmy Shupe officiating. Burial followed in the Ridgedale Cemetery in Rich Valley.

Ellis
Margaret Johnston Ellis, age 84, widow of Joseph E. Ellis, died Saturday, March 8, 1997 in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Ellis graduated from Marion High School and attended Marion Junior College. She was a member of the Royal Oak Presbyterian Church, the Holston Hills Country Club, and a past president of the Marion Junior Woman's Club.
Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Jo E. Gill, Carlisle, Mass., and Annette E. Osborne, Bluefield; four grandchildren: Stephanie Osborne Hickey, Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio, Curtis Hall Osborne, Richmond, Lynette Osborne Chambers, Raleigh, N.C., and William Love Osborne III, Youngsville, N.C.; three great-grandchildren: John Robert Hickey Jr., Jillian Rose Hickey, and William Chase Chambers; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Frances Ellis, Richmond.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 10, at 11 a.m. in Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Edgar Ferrell and Dr. Sheldon Sorge officiating. Burial followed in the Roselawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations should be made to the Royal Oak Presbyterian Church.

Mason
David French Mason, age 83, of Gastonia, N.C., died Monday, March 10, 1997 at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia.
He was born Feb. 26, 1914 in Glade Spring, the son of the late James Porter Mason and Lillian Martin Mason. He was preceded in death by four sisters: Mary Louisa Mason Keister Oglesby; Susan Mason Wildasin; Carolyn Mason; and Elinor Mason; two brothers: Douglas French Mason and William Bernard Mason; one half-brother, James Bernard Mason; one half-sister, Josephine Bowen Mason; two nephews, David Mason Wildasin and James
Jones Wildasin.
Mr. Mason graduated from Emory & Henry College with a chemistry degree. He worked as a research chemist, first for Calco Chemical Company, a division of American Cyanamid in Damascus. Then beginning in 1942, he worked for Southern Dyestuff (Sandoz) in Mount Holly, N.C., for more than 40 years until he retired.
Mr. Mason lived in Mount Holly from 1942 until 1994. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Holly where he served as a trustee, an elder, and a Deacon. He was active in the Mount Holly Rotary Club for 35 years. He was a charter member of the Carolina Piedmont Section of the American Chemical Society and served as chairman for one year. He served as a trustee of Gaston College and for many years he was active in the affairs of the Red Cross.
Mr. Mason is survived by his wife of 58 years: Virginia Wright (Doll) Mason of Gastonia; four children and three sons-in-law: Susan Wright Mason and Richard Roth of Anchorage, Alaska; Janet Mason and G. Edward Lee of Durham, N.C.; David French Mason Jr. of Asheville, N.C.; and Lucinda Mason and William Deese of Manassas; two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Will Mason-Deese; four nephews, Bernard Mason, Douglas Mason, James Mason, and Charles Keister; one niece, Lillian Keister Rexford.
A memorial service will be held today, March 12, at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Holly, N.C., with the Rev. Randall Boggs and the Rev. Wilson P. Rhoton officiating.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 13, at 3 p.m. at Glade Spring Presbyterian Church at Old Glade with the Rev. Timothy E. Bird officiating. Burial will follow in Old Glade Cemetery.
