Matson

Clara Edna Matson, age 76, of Saltville, died Sunday, March 9, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Michael (Rebecca) West, Memphis, Tenn.; one granddaughter, Elise West, Memphis, Tenn.; one sister, Annie Reed, Princeton, W.Va.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, March 12, in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clarence Frye and the Rev. Lewis Price officiating. Burial will be in the Elizabeth Cemetery.

D. R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville is in charge of arrangements.

Price

Rosie Virginia Price, age 78, of Glade Spring, died Saturday, March 8, 1997 in Cedar Lawn Convalescent Home in Abingdon. She was the widow of the Rev. Floyd B. Price.

Survivors include one daughter, Eva Kay (Poston) Davenport, Meadowview; three sisters, Mary Garrett, Glade Spring, Annie Jones, Chilhowie, and Ellar Helton, Bristol, Tenn.; one brother, Robert Stanley, Glade Spring; three grandchildren, Ricky Poston, Tracy Poston and Stacy Poston.

Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, March 9, in Farris Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Gene Little and the Rev. George Wingard officiating. Committal services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, March 10, in Baptist Cemetery, Glade Spring.

Farris Funeral Service in Abingdon was in charge of the arrangements.

Rust

Elizabeth S. Rust, age 99, of Glade Spring, died Sunday, March 9, 1997 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. She had lived all her life in Washington County.

Survivors include two daughters, Lucille E. Poore, Smyrna, Ga., and Ruth Thomas, Glade Spring; one sister, Ethel Dancy, Meadowview; 21 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, March 12, in Farris Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Tom Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Rose Cemetery, Glade Spring.

Farris Funeral Service in Abingdon is in charge of arrangements.

Snow

George B. Snow, age 62, of Graham, N.C., died Friday, March 7, 1997 at his home. He was a native of Smyth County and was the son of the late Andy Kyle and Lillie Fouse Snow. He was a retired technologist with LabCorp and was of the Christian faith.

Mr. Snow was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, and a former employee of Virginia for 18 years. He was a graduate of Roanoke College and Marion Junior College.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Lou Ward Snow; one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Ferguson, Tacoma, Wash.; two sons, Windom Blair Snow, Burlington, N.C., and Blain Scott Snow, Gloucester; one sister, Sue Miller, Chilhowie; four brothers, Andy Richard Snow and Roy Snow, both of Chilhowie, William Herbert Snow, Durham, N.C., and Gordon Snow, Knoxville, Tenn.; four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday, March 9, at 6:30 p.m. in McClure Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jay Kennett, chaplain of the Hospice of Ala/Caswell officiating. Graveside services were conducted at Graham Memorial Park on Monday, March 10. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Ala/Caswell or to the American Cancer Society.

Faine

Charles E. Faine, of Mason, Ohio, formerly of Marion, died Tuesday, March 11, 1997.

Mr. Faine served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard in World War II. He was a plant manager for Brunswick Corp. and vice president of operations for Textron/Randall Corp.

He is survived by his wife, Avanelle Spicer Faine; one daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Randall Sale; two sons and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Sharon Faine, and Richard Faine; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Sherman Smith, Ann and Joe Baker, Joyce and Daryl Lust, and Virginia and Gary Murray; four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 14, at 2 p.m. at the Shorten & Ryan Funeral Home in Mason, Ohio. Memorial donations may be made to the Cancer Society or the Heart Association.

Greear

Roger Lee Greear, age 72, of Sugar Grove, died Tuesday, March 11, 1997 in Old Hickory, Tenn.

He is survived by his wife, Sybil Greear of Sugar Grove; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Greg Fitzpatrick of Coral Springs, Fla., and Gail and David Brinegar of Old Hickory, Tenn.; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Judy Greear of Lakeworth, Fla., and Ric and Mavis Greear of Chattanooga, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 14, at 11 a.m. at the Wharf Hill United Methodist Church in Sugar Grove with the Rev. Tom Martin officiating. Burial followed in Ridge Lawn Cemetery.

Seaver- Brown Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Holmes

Pamela Denise Holmes, age 23, of Saltville, died Monday, March 10, 1997 at her mother's home in Saltville. She was a member of Reach Out for Christ Church.

Survivors include her husband, Edward D. "Eddie" Holmes, Saltville; one son, Christopher Daniel "Bubba" Holmes, of the home; her parents, Paul and Barbara Holmes, Saltville; her maternal grandmother, Flora "Bug" Keith, Saltville; two brothers, Patrick Holmes and Payton Holmes, both of Saltville; two sisters, Paula Holmes, Glade Spring, and Krystal Cannon, Saltville.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 13, in the Cardwell Town Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Danny Keith and the Rev. Charles Keith officiating. Burial was in the Taylor Family Cemetery.

D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville was in charge of arrangements.

Johnson

Paul B. "Fondie" Johnson Sr., age 70, died Tuesday, March 11, 1997 at his home in Damascus.

Mr. Johnson was a lifelong resident of Damascus and was a retired employee from the Damascus Hosiery Mill. He was preceded in death by his father, Fred L. Johnson and a brother, James L. Johnson. He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife, Ernestine C. Johnson; one daughter, Teresa Johnson Wilson, Damascus; one son, Paul B. Johnson Jr., Clarksville, Tenn.; his mother, Minnie R. Johnson, Damascus; the mother of his children, Esther Johnson White, Seven Mile Ford; one sister, Margaret Lewis, Damascus; two brothers, Jack Johnson and Howard Johnson, both of Damascus; six stepchildren: Harry Rouse, Wideners Valley, Earl Morphew, Chilhowie, Earnest Morphew, Charlotte, N.C., Judy Coalson Maier, Banner Elk, N.C., Lee Morphew and Larry Coalson, both of Damascus; three grandchildren, Andrea Danielle Wilson, Christy Mae Johnson and Chad Frederick Johnson; several step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 13, in Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. R.J. Cullop officiating. Committal service and interment were held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 14, at Sunset Memorial Park, Damascus.

Jones

Maude Elizabeth Jonas Jones, age 92, of Annandale, formerly of Cripple Creek, died Tuesday, March 11, 1997.

She is survived by two daughters, Delores G. Ferguson of Annandale, and Audrey Pearson of Eastern, Md.; three sons, Cloyd O. Jones Jr., Manassas, Clayton Jones of Del Ray, Fla., and Douglas E. Jones of Annandale; two sisters, Lucille Goad, and Edith Stuart, both of Fries; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Sunday, March 16, at 2 p.m. at the St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery in Cripple Creek. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the Gillman Funeral Chapel.
