Martin

Joyce Davidson Martin, 52, of Tannersville, died Tuesday, March 18, 1997 in U.Va. Hospital in Charlottesville.

Survivors include her husband, John E. Martin; one son, John E. Martin Jr., Tannersville; one daughter and son-in-law, Melissa Lynn and Eugene Tuell, Saltville; her mother, Mary Davidson, Saltville; two brothers, Kenneth Davidson and Billy Davidson, both of Saltville; two sisters, Josie Pennington, Chilhowie, and Peggy Pack, Marion; five grandchildren: Amber and Braden Helton, Joey Tuell, John David Martin and Claudine Martin; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, March 21, in D.R. Henderson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Benny Frye and the Rev. Jimmy Martin officiating. Burial was in the Martin family cemetery.

D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville was in charge of arrangements.

Moore

Judy Elizabeth Moore, 53, of Manassas, died Wednesday, March 19, 1997 at Hospice of Northern Virginia in Arlington.

She was born in Southwest Virginia and had lived in Manassas since 1960. She was a member of Yorkshire Full Gospel Church in Manassas.

Survivors include her husband of 24 years, Don R. Moore; four daughters: Darlene Rash and Donna C. Bell, both of Manassas; Debbie S. Vannoy, Manassas Park; and Denise M. Randall, King George; two sons, Craig Lee Moore, Kingsport, Tenn., and Thomas A. Salyers, Cumberland, Md.; three sisters, Joyce Pelczer and Phyllis Carson, both of Stafford, and Linda Nelson of Lost River, W.Va.; four brothers: Patrick Powers, Tannersville, Mike Powers, Harry "Buddy" Powers and Don Powers, all of Manassas; 14 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted today, March 22, at 1 p.m. at Yorkshire Full Gospel Church in Manassas with Pastor Gertrude Muddiman officiating. Interment will follow in Stonewall Memory Gardens in Manassas.

Price Funeral Home in Manassas is in charge of arrangements.

Neal

Pauline H. Neal, 79, died Tuesday, March 18, 1997 in Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie.

Mrs. Neal was born in Washington County but lived a number of years in Norfolk. She had been living in Smyth County for the past 12 years. She was a member of the Falling Water Baptist Church in Marion and was an avid cook.

Survivors include her husband, Edgar Neal, Marion; two daughters, Shirley Russell, Marion, and Joann Bishop, Norfolk; two grandchildren, Tad Russell and Todd Bishop, both of Norfolk; two great-grandchildren, Laura Bishop and Darrell Bishop, both of Norfolk; two sisters, Logine Johnson, Front Royal, and Laura Fisher, Fayetteville, N.C.; one brother, Richard Henderson, Deland, Fla.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, March 21, at 11 a.m. in Barnett's Funeral Chapel with Pastor Tim Boyette and Pastor Troy Allen officiating. Burial followed in Zion Cemetery in Washington County.

Barnett's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Sheets

Willie Lee Thompson Sheets, 82, formerly of Abingdon and Chilhowie, widow of Carl Bernard Sheets, died Tuesday, March 18, 1997. She was a retired nurse from Smyth County Community Hospital and a member of Cool Spring Baptist Church in Mechanicsville.

She is survived by one son, Carl (Butch) Sheets; two daughters, Myrna Seward and Barbara Marsland; one sister, Louise Lethcoe, Damascus; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 20, at Bennett Funeral Home in Richmond. Graveside services were conducted Friday, March 21, at 11:30 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery in Chilhowie.

Bennett Funeral Home in Richmond was in charge of arrangements.

Tackett

Rae E. Tackett, 81, of Abingdon, died Wednesday, March 19, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

She was a native of Pocahontas, and was formerly of Powhatan where she worked as a dietitian with the Bon Aire Learning Center. She retired to Abingdon in 1980.

She was the widow of Paul Tackett and was also preceded in death by a son, Paul Tackett.

Survivors include one son, Jack Wilson, Bristol; three daughters, Mrs. William (Ellen) Garrett, Abingdon, Mrs. Jim (Barbara) Bishop, Damascus, and Mrs. Stanley (Janet) Barr, Chilhowie; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, March 22, in Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery in Chilhowie with the Rev. R.J. Cullop officiating.

Farris Funeral Service in Abingdon is in charge of the arrangements.

Anderson

Mabel Virginia Williams Anderson, age 69, died Friday, March 21, 1997 in the Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home.

She was a native of Smyth County having lived most of her life here. She was a member of The House of Prayer in Mitchell Valley and worked at Harwood for several years.

Survivors include two stepsons, Vernon Anderson, Detroit, Mich., and Ulyss Anderson, Johnson City, Tenn.; two sisters, Neva Thompson, Marion, and Mildred Dalton, Mt. Pleasant, N.C.; four brothers, Billy S. Williams, New Smyrna Beach, Fla., George Williams, Piney Flats, Tenn., David Williams, Chilhowie, and Arville Williams, Marion; several step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and one great-great-niece.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, March 23, at 2 p.m. in Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Perry Hall officiating. Burial followed in Rose Lawn Cemetery.

Barnett's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Bell

Ola M. Bell, age 81, died Sunday, March 23, 1997 at her home in Sugar Grove.

She is survived by seven nephews: Mike Wood of Kingsport, Tenn., David Wood of Baltimore, Md., James Wood of Sterling, Don Wood of Abingdon, Pete Wood of Marion, Jack Wood of Sugar Grove, and Ricky Wood of Richlands; three nieces, Patty Pless, Virginia Beach, Dollie Jean Hutchinson, Severn, Md., and Dee Anna Hess, North Carolina.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 25, at 11 a.m. at the Sugar Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenny Price officiating. Burial followed in the Cress Family Cemetery in Sugar Grove. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Sugar Grove Life Saving Crew, P.O. Box 527, Sugar Grove, VA 24375, or to the Sugar Grove Baptist Church, c/o Rev. Kenny Price, P.O. Box 168, Sugar Grove, VA 24375.

Seaver- Brown Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Blackwell

David Milton "Slick" Blackwell, age 54, died Saturday, March 22, 1997 at his home in Hayter's Gap Community.

He was employed at Marion Mold and Tool Company and was responsible for the opening of the Glade Machine Shop, Glade Spring.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Sabrina Blackwell; one son, Billy Blackwell, Emory; two daughters, Tracy Frye, Glade Spring, and Chelsea Blackwell, of the home; two stepdaughters, Allison Osborne and Alana Osborne, both of the home; his mother, Margaret Bordwine, Glade Spring; one brother, Sammy Blackwell, Glade Spring; three sisters, Peggy McThenia, Glade Spring, Patsy Johnson, Meadowview, and Debbie Heffinger, Abingdon; two grandchildren, Ashlyn Frye and Chantel Widner; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at 5 p.m. Monday, March 24, in Farris Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dannie Blazier officiating. Burial was in the Old Glade Presbyterian Cemetery. military graveside rites will be performed by the Honor Guard of Patton-Crosswhite VFW Post No. 6975, Bristol, Tenn.
