Peake
Thelma Irene Peake, age 69, died Saturday, April 5, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital. She attended the Chilhowie Church of God and was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Peake.
She is survived by three sisters, Hazel Lyles and Ruth Osborne Dean, both of Marion, and Gladys Hanks of Galax; five brothers, Elmer Peake, Earl Peake, and Jim Peake, all of Marion, John Peake of Baltimore, Md., and Mack Peake of Piqua, Ohio; his stepmother, Edna Peake, Sparta, N.C.; one half sister, Diane Haga, Saltville; three stepsisters, Inez Worrell and Barbara Sturgill, both of Sparta, N.C., and Linda Guy, Chilhowie.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, at the Newberry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jonathan King and the Rev. Wayne
Powell officiating. Burial followed in the Cleghorn Valley Cemetery.

Pruitt
Enice Dolinger Pruitt, age 85, died Friday, April 4, 1997 in South Carolina.
Mrs. Pruitt was born in Grayson County to John Andrew and Laura Davis Dolinger. She was a member of the Falling Water Baptist church and the widow of Edward Martin Pruitt.
She is survived by two sons, Hubert Ray Pruitt, Angleton, Texas, and Jerry C. Pruitt of Chesterfield, S.C.; two daughters, Carol P. Adams, Chesterfield, S.C., and Peggy L. Peak, Marion; six brothers: Jessie Dolinger, Garnie Dolinger, Alfred Dolinger, Jack Dolinger, all of Mouth of Wilson, Bradley Dolinger, Salisbury, Md., and Roosevelt Dolinger, Rugby; three sisters, Callie Robertson, Hortense, Ga., Emaline McGuire, Alexandria, and Emegene Wyatt, Chilhowie; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, April 8, at 2 p.m. in Falling Water Baptist Church with Pastor Tim Boyette and Dr. Gary Ledbetter officiating. Interment followed in the Haw Orchard Cemetery.

Sage
Weaver Edward Sage, age 70, of Darlington, Md., formerly of Rugby, died Wednesday, April 2, 1997 in the Veterans Administration Hospital, Perry Point, Md.
He was born Feb. 17, 1927 in Marion, the son of Joshua and Sara Ann Pierce Sage. He was preceded in death by one brother, Jesse Sage.
Survivors include three sisters and brothers-in-law, Annie Duvall, Darlington, Md., Hazel and Dale Perry, Bel Air, Md., and Virginia and Jesse Dolinger, Rugby; one brother, Frank Sage, Darlington, Md.; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, April 7, at 11 a.m. in the Volney Baptist Church with the Rev. Rex Hall and the Rev. Doug Halsey officiating. Interment was in Corinth Cemetery. military rites were conducted at the graveside by Grayson County VFW Post 7726.

Smith
Charles W. Smith, age 79, of Saltville, died Monday, April 7, 1997 in Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie.
He was a retired employee of U.S. Gypsum Company and a veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Kestner Smith.
Survivors include one son, Charles W.
Smith Jr., Saltville; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Elaine) Harris, Saltville, and Margaret Shupe, Abingdon; two brothers, Allen Smith, Glade Spring, and Richard Smith, Pulaski; one sister, Vandel Minton, Pulaski; five granddaughters; two great-grandchildren, Rebecca Ashleigh Henderson and David Logan Harris.
Funeral services will be conducted today, April 9, at 3 p.m. in the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Elizabeth Cemetery.

Thomas
Rachel Church Thomas, age 65, of Zapata, Texas, formerly of East Moline, Ill., died Friday, April 4, 1997 in St. Luke's Baptist Hospital, San Antonio, Texas.
She was a native of Chilhowie and had lived in Texas since 1983.
She was of the Protestant faith and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her first husband, James E. Church and her second husband, Edward E. "Bud" Thomas.
Survivors include one son, Thomas Church, Jensen Beach, Fla.; one stepson, Terry Thomas, East Moline, Ill.; one stepdaughter, Sally Chapman, Walcott, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Herman (Madeline) Keith and Virginia Williams, both of Chilhowie; one brother, Charles Harris, Hillsborough, N.C.; three grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted today, April 9, at 11 a.m. in Sullivan-Phillips Mortuary, East Moline, Ill. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal, Rock Island, Ill. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice.

Charmie Hall Allen, age 89, a resident of Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home and formerly of Grant, died Tuesday, April 8, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
She was born Feb. 25, 1908 at Rugby, the daughter of W.A. and Cornelia Dockery Reedy.
Surviving are her husband, Earl Elbert Allen, Grover, N.C.; one daughter, Charlsie Brown, Grant; two granddaughters, Karyn Hall and Zereda Davis, both of Houston, Texas; one stepdaughter, Carlene Enfinger, Martinez, Ga.; two stepsons, Jamie Allen and Bill Allen, both of Grover, N.C.; several step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted today, April 12, at 3 p.m. in Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel in Independence with the Rev. Rex Hall, the Rev. Dusty Reedy and the Rev. Ken Blevins officiating. Interment will be in Long's Branch Cemetery in Rugby.

Zenah Mae Chapman, age 90, of Saltville, died Wednesday, April 9, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Survivors include two sisters, Alice Allison, Saltville, and Lula Broady, North Carolina.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, April 11, at 8 p.m. in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Taylor officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, April 12, in Mount Rose Cemetery.

Edith Harris Church, age 77, died Thursday, April 10, 1997 at her home in Marion. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey W. Church.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Dallas and Carolyn Church of Quinton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carole and Richard Henderson and Tina and Harry Goodman, all of Marion; one sister, Niza Null of Shelby, Ohio; seven grandchildren: Angela Church Edwards and husband Joe of Richmond; Tony Henderson of Christiansburg; Mike Henderson and wife Melissa, Jennifer Foglesong, and Brent Goodman, all of Marion; Sherri Henderson of Glade Spring; Russell Church and wife Lorrie of Alexandria; many beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 13, at 2 p.m. at Seaver-
Brown Chapel with Rev. Carol Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Hospice of America, 540 W. Main St., Wytheville, VA 24382. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.
