Colston

Robert Lee Colston, age 90, died Thursday, April 10, 1997 at his home in Saltville.

He was a member and elder of Watson Gap Free Pentecostal Holiness Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nora Chapman Colston.

Survivors include two sons, Samuel Colston and Jacky Colston, both of Saltville; three daughters, Mrs. James (Peggy) Keith, Mary Wyatt, and Mrs. Les (Betty) Royston, all of Saltville; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, April 12, in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clarence Frye officiating. Burial will be in the Elizabeth Cemetery.

D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville is in charge of arrangements.

Dawkins

Martha Funk Dawkins, age 46, died Tuesday, April 8, 1997 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus, Miss.

She is survived by her husband, Roy A. Dawkins, Columbus, Miss.; one daughter, Marcy Brigman of Houston, Texas; her father and mother, Ernest C. and Frances C. Funk of Marion; four sisters, Elizabeth Richardson of Bluefield, W.Va., Margaret Brazee, Tampa, Fla., Patsy Huff of Bristol, Tenn., and Irene Grinstead, Marion; one brother, Charles Funk of Marion; one grandson, Matthew Brigman of Columbus, Miss.; several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held Friday, April 11, at 2 p.m. at Seaver- Brown Chapel with the Rev. Carol Ferguson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Joyce Blevins, P.O. Box 905, Marion, VA 24354.

Seaver- Brown Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Halsey

Rev. Camet H. Halsey, age 62, died Monday, April 7, 1997 at his home in Volney.

He was born Sept. 19, 1934 in Volney, the son of Thomas C. and Nannie Suitt Halsey. He was a Baptist minister and a retired postmaster of Volney Post Office for several years and was a self-employed barber.

Surviving are his wife, Carolene Osborne Halsey of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Jackie Phipps, Independence; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael David and Patty Halsey, Marion, James Edward and Sandy Halsey, Chilhowie; three grandchildren, Benjamin Bland Halsey, Marion, Dustin Wayne Phipps, Independence, and Emily Elizabeth Halsey, Chilhowie; two step-grandchildren, Whitney Marie Untiedt and Kristin Warren Untiedt, both of Marion; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Eva Campbell, Troutdale, and Louise and Dean Adams, Piney Creek, N.C.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Rex and Grace Halsey, Independence, Tommy and Hazel Halsey and the Rev. Doug and Jean Halsey, all of Volney.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, April 10, at 2 p.m. in Corinth Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Lambert and the Rev. Warner Eller officiating. Interment was in Hall Cemetery, Volney. Flowers will be appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to Joy Ranch, Tri-State Children's Home or to the Gideons.

Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Inc., Independence, was in charge of arrangements.

Hamm

Virginia Elizabeth Dowell Hamm, age 68, died Tuesday, April 8, 1997 at her home in Rural Hall, N.C.

She was born in Smyth County, the daughter of the late Schooler and Pauline Carrico Dowell. She had been living in Rural Hall, N.C., for the past 32 years where she retired as plant supervisor from AMP Co., Inc.

She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her husband, William Bane Hamm, Rural Hall, N.C.; one daughter, Charlotte Stafford, Clearwater, Fla.; one son, John L. Hamm, Merrimack, N.H.; two sisters, Linda Atwell and Carol Jones, both of Marion; one brother, Roger Dowell, Marion; two grandchildren, Lori Stafford, Clearwater, Fla., and Jeffery Hamm, Ashburn.

Funeral services will be held today, April 12, at 2 p.m. in Barnett's Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Mike Sage officiating. Interment will follow in the Wassum Cemetery.

Barnett's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

King

Janet J. King, age 66, of Rural Retreat, died Tuesday, April 8, 1997 in the Wythe County Community Hospital.

She was a graduate of Marion College and furthered her education in music at George Washington University at St. Louis, Mo. She taught music for many years and also played the pipe organ for her church for 20 years. She had been employed by the Governmental District Three in Wytheville for the past five years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Isaac Greek and Jettie Huddle King; one sister, Bonnie Fields; and two brothers, Arnold King and Ivan S. King.

She is survived by one sister, Ruby K. Groseclose of Marion; one brother and three sisters-in-law, Everett C. and Nancy King, Martinsville, Etta Mae King, Burlington, N.C., and Nina King, Fort Worth, Texas; two nieces and husband, Kathy G. and Gerald E. Mabe, Wytheville, and Amy K. King, Raleigh, N.C.; two nephews, Larry King and Roger King, both of Burlington, N.C.; two great-nieces, one great-nephew, two great-great-nieces, many friends, students and neighbors.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 10, at 2 p.m. at the Rural Retreat United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Countiss officiating. Interment followed in the Mountain View Cemetery in Rural Retreat. The family requests that those who prefer, may make memorials to the Rural Retreat United Methodist Church (Epworth House Project), or to the Polio Society.

Lindsey Funeral Home in Rural Retreat was in charge of arrangements.

Krouse

Ann Williams Krouse died Monday, April 7, 1997 at her home in Marion. She was a member and deaconess of the Rappahannock Christian Church in Dunnsville. She also taught Sunday School and was president of the C.W.F.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Betty McVicker of North Highlands, Calif.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Susan Williams, and Harry and Patsy Williams, all of Marion; one sister-in-law, Eunice Wells of Richmond; two grandchildren, Tom McVicker and Jennifer McVicker, both of North Highlands, Calif.

Graveside services were held Thursday, April 10, at 2 p.m. at the St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery in Chilhowie with the Rev. J.N. Howard officiating. Flowers will be appreciated or donations may be made to the Rappahannock Christian Church, Dunnsville, VA 22454.

Seaver- Brown Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Witherington

Vivian Ann Richardson Witherington, age 42, of Bristol, Tenn., died Sunday, April 6, 1997 at Bristol Regional Medical Center.

She was a native of Washington County and had lived in Knoxville, Tenn., for eight years before moving to Bristol, Tenn., in 1993. She was a published author and was a member of the National Poets Society. She was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by her husband, Jeff Witherington; two daughters, Misty Blalock, Knoxville, Tenn., and Tessa Barnette, Bristol, Tenn.; one stepdaughter, Cari Witherington, Montgomery, Ala.; one stepson, Jeffery Witherington Jr., San Diego, Calif.; her parents, Ralph and LeRoy Gilland Richardson, Knoxville, Tenn.; her paternal grandmother, Maudie Ann Richardson, Abingdon; two sisters, Robin McMurray, Blountville, Tenn., and Heather Ravo, Knoxville, Tenn.; four brothers, Charles Butch Richardson and Thomas Richardson, both of Knoxville, Tenn., Junior Richardson, Roanoke, and Darrell Gilland, Greensboro, N.C.; one granddaughter, one aunt, two uncles, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Blevins officiating. The committal service and interment was private.

Johnson Funeral Home in Damascus was in charge of arrangements.

Hagenbuch

Ellen Estelle M. Hagenbuch, age 95, died Sunday, April 13, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

Mrs. Hagenbuch was a native of Ripley, W.Va., and had been living in Marion for more than 20 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, James B. Hagenbuch, and was employed with the C/O Railroad.

Survivors include two nieces, Nancy Conner, Beckley, W.Va., and Betty Stenhouse, Atlanta, Ga.; six great-nieces and nephews.

Entombment services were held Tuesday, April 15, at 2 p.m. at the Woodmere Cemetery Mausoleum in Huntington, W.Va. A memorial visitation will be held tonight, April 16, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel.
